Occidental Arenas Blancas: Terrible Terrible Place

This hotel and Solymer are sister hotels. They are.both terrible. We were booked in Blancas but they overbooked and put us in a handicapped musty room at solymer. The next room we asked for had a leaky ceiling cracked shower panels no bath towels most days terrible food terrible service we tipped everywhere and the staff didn't even acknowledge us bad attitude the only good thing was the beautiful beach and close to town. Also a lot of party people up till 4 am lioud.

Punta Peninsula Varadero: the resort was nice

the workers were awesome ..friendly and always there to help with anything..the rooms were semi clean ...one evening after watching the shows went back to room turned on the lights and there was a rat in the room almost scared me to death ..went to front desk to tell that we would like another room they did nothing for a day and a half not until the rep went and spoke to them ....my husband and we're besides ourself at how they did nothing ...we later changed rooms supposed to have went to anoth [... read more]er building nope same building just down the hall plus made us wait almost 7 hours to get another... the food was always cold but tried to make the most of it ...so our experience there wasn't a great one ..plus be careful on the beach a lot of sand flies I was biting from knees to ankles so bad that I needed meds and watch for infection ...I will never return to Cuba at least not there ...I give this resort a 3 star even that might be to much .

Punta Peninsula Varadero: Disappointing

Don't tip big right at the start because they will forget and avoid you. Food is disgusting in the buffets, but the restaurants were fabulous. The lighthouse claimed to serve food 24/7 except they ran out of it very quickly. They would let you sit there for 20 mins before serving you and when I tried to order from the kitchen personally I got shoo'd away. Phones didn't work. Wi-Fi barely worked. They didn't change my bedsheets from the previous tourists (they smelled horrid). They gave me an ope [... read more]ned water bottle in the bar fridge. Plates were still dirty. If this is a 5 star resort it's because they rated themselves.

Memories Jibacoa: Good holiday

Nice resort, quiet,a little tired in need of up dating. Buffet needs more cook staff at busy times. Cooks trying to man 2-3 stations at once. Had to wait 10 minutes for dinner plates and the same for juice glassess at breakfast.

Punta Peninsula Varadero: Beautiful Beach, Beautiful People BUT Won't Go Back

Don't get me wrong, we are not fussy people. I have travelled to Cuba more than 25 times. I know what to expect. They don't spray for bugs. They are everywhere and bug spray did not seem to help. In the lobby, in the room, around the pool. EVERYWHERE. This resort could be so good. They are so understaffed it is unbelievable. The snack bar with about 20 tables has ONE waitress. The waiters in the buffet have about 20 tables each. I would not back to this resort.

Melia Marina Varadero: Just OK

We have been to many all-inclusive resorts. I would describe myself as not overly demanding - when I'm on these vacations, I largely just try to go with the flow. I am just mentioning this because I find reading reviews a bit hilarious sometimes - it's clear some people have very high expectations. I am not one of those people. This place is just OK. You can have a nice trip here, but I think there are better places in this price range. The grounds are clean, attractive and well-maintained [... read more]. The rooms are clean. I found the service not very friendly, nor attentive. I am not one of those persons who wants to make friends with the staff. I don't need much in this department, but some would just ignore you and then act like you were putting them out. There were long waits for things like drinks and whatnot. While the grounds are well maintained and clean, I found it to be a bit "industrial" looking for being on a tropical vacation. As well, the resort is quite spread out with the result that you might get a room very far from the beach/pools/buffet. If you are able-bodied, this isn't such a big deal. But if you have any problem walking around, this will be an issue. There are golf carts that can drive you around. The food was acceptable, but not very good. The buffet was the same everyday. A la carts weren't much better, but a bit better and more civilized than the noisy/disorganized buffet. It was very difficult to get enough water to drink at this resort. Most resorts I've been to had a place where you could fill up your own bottle, not here. They just delivered one bottle per day to your room, which I don't think is nearly enough for two people. Trying to get bottles of water was like pulling teeth. The beach is nice.

Muthu Playa Varadero: good for the price

I was pleased with the resort for the price. The only big downside for me was that there wasn't very good meat for breakfast. Other than that, the food was good. Beach barbecue was good, a la cartes were good. Buffet was decent. Loved the fresh fruit for breakfast. Great beach of course. The entertainment was good. Overall, a good experience. Also, i loved the open concept lobby, always a breeze blowing through, very nice.

Hotel Acuazul: very nice!

nice place if u like fish twice a day your in luck! great staff! lucky if get hot water 4 shower but get what u pay 4 beach is a bit of a walk and no where too rinse feet after getting out of ocean for walk back but we will be staying again on our next trip!

Roc Barlovento: Amazing Friendly Resort

Had the best trip again to this cozy resort. Rooms are clean, friendly staff, grounds were always clean. Great buffet with good variety of food, and bbq everyday was amazing. The beach is always beautiful and the new beach bar is a plus.

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Another great vacation at the beautiful Paradisus Princesa Del Mar

Just returned from our 4th week long vacation and once again we had a fantastic time! The gardens are very well maintained. The food was great. Entertainment amazing. The beach beautiful and last but not least the staff friendly, hard working, talented people. Thank you for helping make our stay fantastic.

Melia Marina Varadero: Poorest quality ever

We were prepared for tasteless food but this resort not only had poor quality food but often ran out of basic items eg hamburgers, omelette ingredients, hash browns, fruit etc etc. Beef was always tough, even at the a la carte restaurants. Chicken was dry and tough. Our room was never made up until between 5 and 6 pm and they often ran out of fresh towels. Difficult to shower and clean up for dinner! The pool towel hut was out of fresh towels 3 of our 7 days.

Starfish Jibacoa: Frequent Cuba Visitor

I will start with "3star"... We picked this resort for a few reasons, size, price and bungalow . I was very pleased with our bungalow. We asked for a location close to pool and buffet due to walking ability and the request was granted. We could not have had a better location. No problem with air conditioning or hot water. The bed was a little on the hard side but we managed fine. So.....zero problems with accommodation . We had ocean view. Mini fridge was stocked once with two bottles of  [... read more]water and two Coke, no re stocking. The store sold pop and water so we restocked ourselves. Now for the food!! I know it was three star but I have never vacationed at a resort where the food was this bad. Breakfast was no problem and lunch was ok but dinner was horrible. The main meat dish they offered was liver! Buffet had a small amount of chicken and beef but it was served like slop..mixed in a sauce with who knows what else and was not replenished unless asked. I am not a picky eater so I was a little shocked over what was offered. Liver every night!! The bread was the best...always fresh!!! I didn't starve but let's just say I don't want to see rice for sometime. Here's the reasons I will return to this resort. The atmosphere !!! Staff were great....no mad rush for beach or lounge chairs at the pool or beach!!! It's been a long time since I was at resort where I could head to the pool at 11am and still find lots of vacant lounge chairs. The pool bar had great bartenders...Eddy, Luis and Jose!! Thank you for the wonderful service. To sum it up, if you want a decent vacation at a low cost and your not worried about the food then this is the place for you. If you are a picky eater and want to be entertained then stay away .

Melia Marina Varadero: Terrible service, terrible food.

Pool grounds & beach ok. Food terrible, service terrible. Never again!!! Many people we talked to said the same thing. Al a carte restaurants worst ever. People left before they were served. This was sold to us as a 5 star!!!! Would not give it a 2 star

Sol Varadero Beach: Not Impressed

Sol Sirenas Coral is a resort needing a overhaul. The grounds are nice and inviting however the inside of the resort appears dated and uninspiring. I have been to this resort on several occasions in the past and have noticed that minimal upgrades or improvements have been made throughout the years. The bars frequently experienced shortages of beer and i would need to walk to the other bar to have a beer. The food is repetitive - chicken, pork or beef with rice, veggies. The line ups to have [... read more] some chicken grilled were long. The desserts were good and plentiful. Most staff were welcoming however would appear to argue amongst themselves on several occasions. Unfortunately during my last stay, my neighbour played music well into the night, making it impossible to fall asleep. The mattresses seem to be original from the early 80's. I would definitely recommend bringing your own pillow. I have been to Cuba approximately 17 times so knew what to expect however, during the years, other resorts have made improvements both on the exterior and interior.

Muthu Playa Varadero: Wonderful Vacation

Having read many reviews and as this was our fourth time staying in Varadero, knowing that this resort had some negative comments, I just didn't know what to expect. My previous stays were at 4.5 and 5 star and I expected this to be a step down. I was wrong. The food was just as good as anywhere else, less to choose from but everything was fresh and tasty. the barbeque at lunch time near the beach was wonderful. Last year three out of nine of our family got violently ill from the unhygienic food and plates a the Melia Marina. There were activities and entertainment that was very enjoyable. The rooms, grounds and common areas were clean and well cared for. The beach was one of the best I've seen in Cuba. The layout of this resort is awesome, the hotel is really close to the beach. The staff were very good too, especially housekeeping and our baristas at the coffee bar and our waiter at the barbeque. Its not easy to please everyone and I know many North Americans expect that a four star hotel in Cuba should be just like staying in the 4 stars in Canada, but that is unrealistic. Cuba is changing and conditions for the people of Cuba is improving but it is still a third world country and we were in luxury compared to the way people live there. It was an amazing vacation, Ill go back as soon as I can. I got the best value and am really happy with this resort.

Playa Caleta: Even better than last year

The hotel is under new management. They responding very fast to any of our complains. We asked to move rooms as the one we were in was not up to snuff. Once we told them we were repeat customers all was taken care of. The hotel next door is owned by the same company so you can us their facilities. They had a great gym. The best I have ever seen in Cuba. The food was good. The entertainment was excellent. Would return in a heart beat.

Resonance Blu Varadero: Good Resort!

Overall, this is a good resort. I liked the food, dinning room and lobby area of this hotel. The rooms were nice but the maids didn't mop the floor often enough. The shuttle is not frequent enough to take you to and from the lobby and your bungalow. The shuttle should be running more often especially during the night. The shuttle driver should also provide you with some 'tips' or info on the hotel (e.g., Where is the 24 hour snack bar?).

Resonance Blu Varadero: Not bad for the price

In brief, Memories Varadero has pretty decent food, fantastic staff, beautiful grounds and lots to keep the kids busy. It had tons of potential, too, but is a large resort that struggles to keep up with the demands of its guests. It's not always perfectly spotless, nor is the food of the "gourmet" variety, but they're trying so very hard. The "cons" are pretty standard, with beds on the hard side, lack of new towels in the room and nonexistent wifi (if you care about that). The one thin [... read more]g that nearly ruined my 6-day stay was the unbelievable rudeness of some of the other guests. It was difficult to turn a blind eye to their entitled shenanigans, but I managed (with the help of some Cuban rum). If you just want to chill with a tasty Mojito at the stunning beach, then you should go. If you're a diva who needs to have everything perfect, then spare the rest of us your foolishness and go somewhere else.

Melia Las Antillas: Quiet, Serene and Calm with a Breathtaking Beach

This hotel was, basically, for the 'older' crowd--the rooms were adequate but dated, clean and the mattresses were, surprisingly, comfortable. We were lucky to get a ground floor room facing towards the pool area but centrally located. The entertainment in the evening was wonderful at the Outdoor Stage and some excellent live musicians sang and played in the varying restaurants. The pools were refreshing--but it was the beach that was the best thing of all--white sand,could look for shells along the shore for miles, lots of Cabanas for shade, decent beach chairs--and an aqua ocean as far as the eye could see--warm water until evening, people swam until the sun went down. The resort staff were welcoming-- -and we changed our money in the hotel to pesos, no problem. The only thing that always seems a hassle on most resorts is the fact that if you wanted to be under a Cabana for sure by the ocean, you had to put a towel or book on your chairs by 7 or so in the morning--lots of Cabanas but also everyone wanting some shade...We did get out on the Catamaran that was free for a short time but the fellas there were mainly looking to sell you a snorkeling trip to the reef and were reluctant to take you far--if at all. We enjoyed the sand, sun, entertainment and drinks--all definitely 5 star!
