Bahia Principe Explore Coba: I really wanted to enjoy this vacation...
The resort is beautifully kept, the pools are large and very nice. We booked this resort basically for the Kids Club and the Waterpark (this is actually an excellent waterpark for kids, it's huge with many different slides), this was our first time going on vacation with the kids (my granddaughter who is 8 and my grandson who is almost 2). When we went to look at the Kids Club to see if we felt comfortable leaving the 2 year old, we were told that it was only for "Privileged" members and not a[... read more]vailable for us. Um, What?? I didn't notice that advertised when we were selecting the resort. Also the day before we arrived they shut the kids waterpark down for maintenance and it opened back up on our last day :( - it opened for the morning, only to be shut down again after lunch.
When I complained about the waterpark being closed, the resort managers did what they could to try make up for this inconvenience, I do applaud them for that.
The resort is very large, we booked the upgraded rooms as part of the "Royal Golden" upgrade, this means that you get a robe, slippers, free use of the safe (otherwise the safe if $5 a day) and an additional ala Carte. it also means that you are in the villas that are the furthest away from the buffet and a bit of a walk from the pool. When I asked about changing rooms to be closer to the food and pool I was told I would be downgrading, so we stayed where we were. The rooms in Royal Golden are exactly the same as other rooms, so I'm not sure the "upgrade" was worth it as we ended up being so far from the main attractions of the resort.
The ala Carte restaurants were fabulous, our favorite by far was Le Gourmet, then Don Pablo then the Italian restaurant. The Japanese show cooking restaurant which is always a huge draw was closed when we were there :(
The manager that I dealt with when discussing the closure of the waterpark were very helpful and followed up to see if everything else was going ok. We had a fabulous waiter in the buffet, Jose, but other than that I have to say in general the staff was not super friendly, we often had to wait a long time for coffee/water after we sat down and an especially long time for high chairs for the 2 year old (this was super difficult as all he wanted to do was run around free). One time they didn't bring the high chair until our meal was almost over :(
When we have been at resorts before (Mexico and Cuba) the staff had been the most outstanding part of our stays. They are very friendly, helpful and remember you when you are a repeat customer during your week there. I think the biggest problem in this regard at this resort is that it is maybe just too big for the resort staff to care much.
We did have a big leak from our ceiling at 10:30 pm (air conditioning leak I think?), I called and someone was there to fix it very quickly.
As this resort is not on the beach we only did book it as it looked like the best option for the kids. We knew we could get the trolley to the beach. Unfortunately wait times for the trolley's was often quite long whether you were going to the beach or to your room if it was late or you were just too tired after all of the walking during the day.
We did stay at BP Akumal last year and it was excellent, I assumed we would have the same experience at Coba, but we didn't.
I don't think I would return to BP Coba.

Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda: Expectations were exceeded!
My expectations for this resort were not that high after reading a lot of reviews. After spending 10 days there I can certainly recommend that you not listen to a bad word about it. The staff was amazing, the food was plentiful and very tasty - lots of Mexican dishes at every meal. The a la Cartes were wonderful. We did not spend a lot of time on the beach, so the seaweed problem didn't affect our enjoyment of the resort. The smaller pool could use some maintenance - loose / missing tiles, and s[... read more]eemed to be an issue with the water circulating through the pool. The far end near the towel hut seemed to always have a sunscreen slick floating on top. The rooms were kept very clean, and supplies were always replenished. The resort transportation - "Bus" was a welcome feature wen we were tired. It makes a loop of the resort, so you can hop on and off where you need to go. Drinks were terrific! you just tell them exactly how you want it, and that's the way you get it! Pina Colada with Malibu - no problem! Buffet staff was the best - Fernando and Santiago were our servers for 8 of our 10 days - they remembered all of our preferences after the first day!

Platinum Yucatan Princess: Well worth the price
With the exception of the beach, the resort is very good for the price. Throughout most of that area, it is common for the beaches to be a sun tan area only.
Service at the pool bar was exceptional, housekeeping was fair and the resturants were very good.

The Fives Beach Hotel and Residences Playa Del Carmen: Can’t take food from restaurants / construction
We travelled with a 10 month old and a 2.5 year old. Resort was fine but we found it challenging to find food while our children were napping or to have food in the room for when my toddler wanted something. You cannot take food out of any of the restaurants - not even the buffet (without hiding it). One night my husband tried to take some desserts to the room from the buffet as the kids were sleeping and he was stopped at the door and told no. Yes - you can order room service but it is the [... read more]same/limited menu all week.
There is also extensive construction going on down by the beach. Not only is the beach small but they are building new buildings and a new pool bar so if you are beach people, maybe wait a year until this is complete.
Room size was generous.

Grand Sunset Princess: Amazing resort!
We stayed in a platinum room and it was amazing. The grounds were very nice and kept clean. It was a nice walk from platinum to the main lobby or there were regular shuttles to and from. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The only thing I didn't like was the platinum area of the beach. It was farther away and the wait staff had to use the same bar as the reg beach, so it took a while to get your drinks. All in all we can't wait to go back

Ocean Coral Riviera Cancun: Very Nice for an Old Resort
This was our first time to Mexico. I must say that we were quite pleased with the service and attention received while there. It was the off season and our trip central rep. kept us up to date on what services were not available during this time frame. The staff were second to none. Everyone was more than helpful and went above and beyond to provide a service.
The grounds were very well kept. No garbage anywhere. Staff were always around manicuring and did not interfere with any of the guests.[... read more]
The restaurants were very clean and also the staff were there to service you if needed.
I would recommend this hotel to my friends and have already done this. I would visit again and stay at this hotel.
Like they say: "No need to fix something that is not broken".
Hope to see this resort again very soon.

Sandos Playacar Beach Resort: Very big Resort.
This resort was HUGE. There is usually only one trolley going at one time so there is sometimes a wait.
The food was a little disappointing. At the Asianz and french restaurants the food was very good and, more importantly, hot. In the other ones the food was usually lukewarm, not hot.
The rooms were ok, a little tired but clean. Some of our linens had rips in them and stains on the duvet.
The staff was great and Fabian the swim up barkeeper was great. He remembered what you liked to drink [... read more]and had it real for you. The adult only section was ok but there was only about 15 feet from the family rooms. It was ok but you could hear the kids sometimes.

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: Excellent resort
This resort was amazing! Friendly staff, excellent service, clean, only small distance to the beach. A la carte dinners are of great variety and were amazing. If I had to pick something to improve I may say night time entertainment could spruce up a bit but it is an adult only resort so quiet may be favoured by some.

Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: Highly recommend this resort
This resort was all around exceptionally maintained and the service was fantastic. Easily the best experience we have had at an all inclusive, including other Luxury Bahia’s.
The resort itself is massive, yet never feels overwhelming. The pools and beaches/lagoons were always clean and there was always space available, even though It was filled to capacity when we were there. The staff works super hard to make sure everything is very well maintained. They are also very attentive and always[... read more] around to get you a drink.
The buffets are quite impressive, even serving lobster tails one of the days we were there. You will not leave hungry. Tons of options for everyone tastes. We went to two a la carte restaurants, the Brazilian and the Italian. Highly recommend the Brazilian where they bring food around on swords. May want to pass on the Italian...
The rooms are a bit dated however they are clean and well kept so if a fancy room isn’t a requirement, then this resort is definitely the best bang for your buck.

Grand Riviera Princess: Great for family
Where to begin... This is a family resort, so if you're looking for a party resort, hmm maybe you should keep looking. It's a big resort. Get ready to walk. Alot. Beach and pools are quite far from all buildings, except the private villas. Main lobby is the central point of the hotel. All A La Carte restaurants, sports bar, disco, shops, spa, gym and entertainment/shows are located in the main building. Which is good if you're staying in the closer rooms, bad if you're staying in the far buildin[... read more]gs since its abit of a far walk. Look out for the wildlife. Kodis (raccoon/monkey lookin animals) roam trough out the resort. Even by the pools, trying to steal Ur food or belongings and going through the garbage bins. At night, if someone leaves room service plates outside their rooms, expect a mess in the morning. Rooms are clean enough. Only complaint was the doors don't have the small chain to lock the doors. And the peep holes are really high on the door. Cleaner cleans Ur rooms as requested. Clean Towels are always on hand. Doesn't hurt to tip for that extra detail to have Ur room smell nicer.
Went for a wedding, however it was not held at the resort. What we did see, was a wedding dinner being held in the buffet, along with strangers looking at the wedding group like "why don't you have your own private area?", good luck if you're planning a wedding there. Idk whos idea that was but I wouldn't wanna share my wedding with 100 strangers not invited.
Anyhow, overall, stay was good. Food was alright. At least the sports bar is open 24/7 and make a good panini. The a la Carte restaurant Miso Teppanyaki is phenomenal. What a show and great food. We travelled with someone allergic to nuts, Concierge wrote up a letter to show the chefs requesting separate cooking tools be used if menu had any traces of nuts. That I found excellent thinking and greatly appreciated the Concierge for that.
Playa is a $18USD taxi ride to 5th Ave. If you walk a block up, grab a taxi back, haggle em down to $10USD. One major suggestion when going to 5th Ave to shop, TURN YOUR BRACELETS INSIDE OUT!! vendors are ruthless and very aggressive. They will say stuff like "hey amigo, remember me your pool bar bartender from the">insert resort name

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Gran Bahia Coba. Great resort !
This past trip was our twenty second visit to the Coba. The staff are always friendly and helpfull.
As for the resort in general it is beautifully kept, the gardens, the pool areas, the resturants and buffett's are great and you have the option to eat and visit in some of the other hotels in the resort.
The front lobbies in all of the hotels are built in the Mayan style with huge palapa roofs, well worth the time to sit back in a chair and admire the workmanship it took to build them.
As a c[... read more]ouple of seniors we have found all of the hotels in the resort, and also in the surounding areas to be very safe, which is very impotant for us. The junior suites are large and comfortable and are cleaned and restocked each day to a very high standard. The Coba is not on the beach front, if you want beach front then try the Tulum or the Akumal, all great hotels.
Contact Trip Central and ask for Angela Kocsis she has looked after us many times and knows these resorts well.

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: Our Favourite Resort!
This was our second visit to Sian Ka'an, from late October till early November 2017 and I think we enjoyed it even more than the first time one year earlier.
The resort setting has a jungle feel to it and is gorgeous. Our junior suite was spacious and very modern and the beds were firm but comfortable. Our second floor balcony wasn't very deep, giving an almost crowded feel. But that didn't stop us from enjoying it every afternoon before getting ready for dinner. Even the coati enjoyed their vi[... read more]sits on two occasions as they hoped to share our potato chips from the minibar!
The food at the buffet restaurant is very good. There is a good selection and unlike many resorts we've been to most of the cooked items were at least warm if not hot.
We visited the Japanese a la carte at Sian Ka'an and three other a la cartes at the three other Bahia Principe properties. All were very good. Service was good at all the restaurants and bars and the staff are very friendly. Being able to take advantage of the facilities of all four properties is a definite bonus.
The beach, shared by the four resorts, must be at least a couple of kilometres long, with golden sand and several protected stretches suitable for children. Sian Ka'an has its own exclusive section (adults only, of course) with ample chaises under palapas and its own beach bar which rarely had a lineup unlike some of the other bars along the beach.
It is hard to come up with many negatives. The drive from the airport was quite long (about 90 minutes) but was certainly worth it. The return to Cancun aboard a smaller minibus was much quicker, about 65 minutes.
It was a great ten days and I am sure we will return to Sian Ka'an!
