Starfish Varadero: Huge Resort....

This is a beautiful large resort with a lot of amenities. Unfortunately it is very run down in places especially walkways, ramps & tiled outside areas that when wet are very slippery. I only mention this because I walk with a cane & experienced some close calls. The hotel staff were A+++ & the food was good, plentiful & lots of variety. The beach was fantastic but too far to walk for me. It would be a good place for families & young people but for seniors especially ones with mobility issu [... read more]es I would not reccommend!

Resonance Blu Varadero: Very Nice Resort!

The beach at this resort is beautiful, rooms are kept very clean, staff is so friendly, the food could be a bit better, I was there in 2016 also and the food was very good then so was a bit surprised this time, but still had a fabulous time!

Club Kawama: First and last time in Club Kawama, Varadero

The hotel was very run down but our second room was clean although one of three lights was not working; fridge not working; and pillows were as flat as worn folded towels. We had paid for a Superior room but were first assigned a room was not in that category. On 3rd day got a new room since they lost the request made on first day. We only ever saw one gardener or outside maintenance worker...too much property to look after...untidy grounds and garbage..Even pool in mornings was littered with [... read more] plastic glasses. All the workers were lovely except one. Food was fine. The beach was beautiful but not maintained; often drinking straws, plastic glasses and cigarette butts everywhere..A small garbage can appeared on day 5 but that was not enough. We had to pay for bottled of water...first time ever in Cuba that it was not in fridge on a daily basis. Also had to pay 22 pesos for safe in room...absolutely ridiculous. No map of resort so after arriving at midnight we had no idea of layout the next morning. No beer served at beach bar or in lobby bar..dark ages. 3 mornings the lobby bar which had only 7 tables had no water for coffee. Poor layout of resort... . .No musical entertainment until day 7, 8 and 9. Such a disappointing resort but we lived on the beach. .. We did have electricity the whole 10 days and lots of hot water...unlike some people at other resorts. Every day we had an oil smell in our room from an oil refinery not too far away...very unpleasant. Confusion and chaos at Varadero airport...while checking in for flight.

Occidental Arenas Blancas: Good resort for the money!

We are a couple that stayed at the Barcelo Arenas Blancas for two weeks the end of March 2017. This was the first time visiting the resort. Hotel: rooms were very clean and everything was updated in the room except the bathroom. The room was great, bathroom was ok, but was clean and had great water pressure and lots of hot water. Staff was very polite and friendly all through the hotel. The wifi was purchased by the hour and you would just log in and out until you used up the 60 minutes.. ours lasted us the 2 weeks as we just sent quick checkins home. Hotel and bathrooms were kept very clean which was a great change from some other resorts we have been to. The place needs some updates, but they were renovating and updating all over the place when we were there and you can tell it will look good when they are done. Beach: Amazing! You can walk for miles in either direction.. there is shade but you need to get down before 8am most mornings if you want a hut. Paddle boats, kayaks etc.. available to use for free.. beach bar had the best Piña Coladas as they made them with real coconut milk there as opposed to the lobby bar that used mix. Food: This is one of the better resorts we have been to for food, and that includes 4 and 4.5 stars in DR and Mexico.. lots of options, plenty of fresh fruits and veggies, ice cream in regular flavours like vanilla, choc, and strawberry but also mango, coconut etc.. usual omlette and pasta stations, meat grills and there was a pizza station and crepes station as well. We were very pleasantly surprised at the food quality for a Cuba resort. There was also a coffee bar located in the main lobby area as well. Entertainment: We never attended the evening entertainment but we heard it from our room each evening.. everyone seemed to enjoy it but it was an outdoor area as opposed to an indoor theatre which is something different than we are used to seeing. Town: It was great to be able to just around the town in the evenings and feel safe while you are doing it.. it is a nice little place with very friendly people. Cons: there was not much for cons and what we considered cons may not bother others but we found the nightly entertainment loud even from inside our room and it went to 11pm each night.. this was not a real big deal, but for those with younger kids, it might make a difference.. the other was that to get security to deal with loud partiers at 3am, you had to call and complain.. this only happened a few nights the whole time we were there and we know it goes with the territory so we just ignore it, but one night it was really bad with vulgar and racist slurs being yelled by a large group and it went on for over an hour with nothing being done.. other guests actually ended it by telling them they were calling the police. We have been other places where security jumps in right away to "help" the noise makers back to their rooms and that would have made a big difference. The bulk of the partiers were located at the Solymar side of the resort. Overall it was a great two weeks and we would recommend this resort

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: For Cuba it was great!

This hotel was a 4 star for Cuba for sure. The rooms were humid but the air conditioner did work. The beds were low and hard but you were able to sleep on them. Food was good (last time I stayed in Cuba I had a hard time eating) There was hot water every time I showers. The pools were super warm and clean. The ocean and beach were amazing. Staff was a little slow but I was always able to get a drink. Staff were also friendly. Check in and check out we're super easy. I wouldn't recommend the hote [... read more]l for those who have difficulty walking. Although the resort is condensed I was traveling with some women with back pain and there is a lot of stairs to the lobby etc. If your looking for a good place in Cuba I would highly recommend.

Roc Barlovento: Beautiful Resort very friendly and best beach ever.

This is an older resort, small but very friendly, and clean. Grounds were always clean, and there were many upgrades done since my last visit. Rooms are clean, and if any problems arises, they are very quick to fix the problem. Food was good, and a bbq every day was awesome. Beach, as always beautiful, and clean. The new beach bar is a beautiful addition. The resort is located within walking distance to market and bank/banking machine, and good restaurants. Most of all, being a repeat c [... read more]ustomer, was greeted with hugs from the workers. As always, had a good trip, and look forward to going back to visit all the friends in Cuba.

Hotel Tuxpan: Great time great place!

all was good for the whole week a card problem a phone problem but no big deal but there was no entertainment at night only one night that we were there no big deal for us but it should not be advertised nightly entertainment because there was not

Starfish Varadero: Great resort

This hotel has recently changed to a Starfish. I loved this resort. We had such a great time. The staff is friendly and very helpful. The food was good something different every day. The Trinidad bar had some really good food as well. The rooms were nice, a little out dated but was very comfortable. The grounds were kept clean. I would suggest this resort to anybody who is looking for a good time.

Paradisus Varadero: Nice resort

Resort was nice,we stay in family section which was very nice and clean. Very modern looking rooms and dining room was clean.Food just perfect for Cuba standard.Restaurant are very busy and you need reserve early for perfect hours! Beach beautiful with plenty of chairs,worth to wait for nice sunset.And pelicans on the beach showing skills how to catch a fish daily.Nothing to complain at all.

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Ok resort now but not a five star

This is my third stay at this resort. Our first time there was great. Second time we noticed things broken and not getting attention. This stay the same things we noticed last time are still broken, maintenance doesn't seem to be a priority. The outside grounds are still well kept and lovely. The main lobby is so nice to sit and enjoy, however, it also needs attention. You can see where there has been heavy rains at times and ceilings have been damaged. Entertainment is so so. however there was a band one night called 5th Avenue that was amazing. Shows are the same over and over and mostly all Spanish and difficult to understand even the English, but its Cuba...Elvis from Keswick, Ontario, Canada entertained us one night for a bit and that was enjoyed but the Canadians. The beach and the lovely staff everywhere is still my favorite. I just love the Cuban people.

Starfish Jibacoa: Modest resort with a big heart :)

My wife, son and I have just returned from Villa Jibacoa on April 3rd /2017. I should mention first that soon as you drive up to the hotel and exit the bus at the lobby you can immediately see the ocean thru the lobby area first impression was amazing! Check-in was friendly, fast and efficient. The front desk staff was amazing. We were instructed that our room wasn't quite ready yet and were suggested to attend the lobby bar which was a great place to wait. We eventually checked into our room which was quite comfortable and adequately stocked with personal care products and a bottle of rum. The resort its self is in front of a spectacular mountain range and the scenery is spectacular. Grounds are well kept and clean. Ocean was amazing beach was racked with a tractor most days and we saw very little evidence of washed up garbage. You can only do so much! All staff especially the bartenders were amazing and friendly. buffet staff equally as friendly and took care of your needs promptly.Snack bar at the pool was great as well but could use 2 staff members on as it get very busy there and line ups can be quite long, burgers were amazing ! All in all a great cosy laid back resort. The question isn't if we would go back its when we are going back. Wife who is very picky was talking about returning before we even left and we have been to 4 and 5* in Dominican, Mexico and Cuba but this resort just had a feel to it,which makes you want to return. I should also mention the lobster dinners that are offered off resort. We attended to of the locations, the tower and the La Casiqua don't quote me on that spelling but both were amazing but our preference was the La Caiqua as you can walk to it from the resort. The amount of food you get is remarkable for a cost of 15 pesos. We will be returning this year for sure. Thank you Villa Jibacoa for a beautiful vacation.

Sol Varadero Beach: Wonderful holiday

My husband and I found the value for the cost very good Older building but clean, food was good, staff friendly and helpful Beach beautiful and pool area good We would return again to this resort no reservations

Iberostar Origin Playa Alameda: Nice resort

The resort was nice, the staff was wonderful and the food, both at the buffet and à la carte restaurants, were good. We upgraded to the romantic package which was definitely not worth the money. We were in the renovated section however the rooms were extremely dated. The mattress was not very good and there were a couple of coils that would poke you. The water pressure in the shower was nonexistent and the water was lukewarm at best most days. The beach was very nice.

Iberostar Origin Playa Alameda: Perfect for family with kids!

Well cleaned room,beautiful pools with bars. Resorts has mini club for kids to play and a small pool for toddler that was fantastic. All staffs were very welcoming,smiling and always happy to exceed guest need.

Melia Marina Varadero: Great resort condos!

We had one of the apartment condos and they were very clean and modern. There were four people in our group and it was very spacious. Loved it! Food was better than we expected. Pool area was clean! Beach was terrific! The grounds were clean and well maintained.

Melia Las Antillas: great for 60 and over

Pretty resort, large palm trees, pond, great swimming pool, shallow and about 5 feet. Lots of chairs surrounding the pool. They could use more palapala at the beach for shade. Stayed in the cheapest room and the bed was good, showers hot, bathroom fine. Entertainment show almost every night, very professional dancers, excellent. Ballet/synchronized swimming show came in pm and evening. Live music every day at lunch and most evenings. Most staff good. This place has a lot of people from Canada,  [... read more]Italy, and Germany who are over 60. Perfect for this age group. Not for young people. I enjoyed my time there.

Sirenis Tropical Varadero: I WILL GO BACK!!!

I don't have one negative thing to say about this resort! The staff were friendly and helpful, rooms clean, food good, beach was incredible!!! I will be back!!! I was travelling with my elderly mother, who also loved it and she can be hard to please at times. First vacation ever where I don't have even 1 complaint!!!!

Punta Peninsula Varadero: Fun for the Family

First off, great beach and location to the beach. Amazing Lobby Bar, quick check in, and except-able rooms. Nothing over the top but for the money it was a good choice. The food was typical but fine for all. I would travel to Blau Marina again.

Sol Varadero Beach: Decent Resort

Good bang for the buck. The beach is beautiful and the resort is a bit old but clean. The food is not that good and the beds are horrible but can't complain about much else. More like 3.5 stars than 4

Playa Caleta: Good resort for the price.

I was at this hotel in 2014 and I have to honestly say it's not as nice now as it was then. I found the buffet had less variety and the food wasn't as good. The beach is amazing, the maid service and room cleanliness was awesome. Bartenders are friendly enough but won't make the variety of drinks that they used to. Couldn't get a strawberry daiquiri anywhere and the bubbas made them wince. A la carte restaurants are great and much better than the buffet. Pool was clean and poolside was kept clea [... read more]n and tidy. Overall this resort is great for the price you pay. I am personally there for the beach and sunshine so it was great. On a side note, try to stay away from the horse and buggies, they rip you off big time!! Take a cab. You can barter and they never rip you off. Went most places for 5 pesos for 2 of us. Confirm the price before you go!!
