Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Good hotel for families - read details

Couple of things out of the gate: First: BP Coba is rated at 5*, it's not. For those that really have stayed at such hotel, I would rate it solid 3.5 or 4. Actually Coba section is lowest rated category from all sections in the BP complex and prevalent signs of decay are showing (see 2 room picture from me) Second: the hotel is *really far* from Cancun airport (100km / 2.5 hours at least) with a bus. It is almost the last hotel in the Playa Del Carmen strip from the large hotel chains.  [... read more]Third: Best villa to stay Villa 31 (close to everything) looking over the pool on 2nd/3rd floor. Next best would be Villa 19, 20 (2nd/3rd floor) if you like the morning sun (south-east exposure). All other villas you are far from stuff and whatever you are told you get the "garden view" (aka shitty view) even if you are facing the other smaller pool (Villas 25, 26). Good things: BP Coba section is well-thought through with pools and layout. It's family-oriented resort, water-park is nice. Food is at 4* level at the buffer, where the gourmet restaurants do not stand out. Overall customer-service is good but not impressive. Beach is good but not connected to anything on the south (very rocky) and on the north you can walk another 2-3 km before hitting rocks. From entertainment side, we liked the events at the Theater even if some of them tend to be cheesy. Negatives: rooms are dated, fixtures like lamps limping, cracked tiles, faucets leaking - overall resort shows its signs of time. Coba section is not on the beach and you should be ready to walk for many things. Hacienda market is essentially 15-20 vendor stalls selling the same things over and over. Diversity of experience is missing in the resort. Been in BP in other locations so I would ignore commenting on the Privileged Club time-share scam Overall: Good but not great. Despite being far from the beach I believe you get better value for the money here than Tulum, Akumal, or Sia Kan sections

Royalton CHIC Cancun: Interesting experience

Really nice hotel and excellent location. There were inconsistencies with service quality - some staff was great some was terrible - and the quality of patrons themselves - beach chair cat fights, etc

Sandos Caracol Nature Resort and Water Park: Amazing Family Resort

Family of 4. Traveling with a 7 and 10 year old. We had an amazing time. There was so much wildlife around the resort. The food was good especially the A la Carte. No reservations required except for Japanese restaurant and no limit on how many A La Carte meals you do. The kids loved the waterpark. We were in the Family Eco Superior room. The room was very clean and recently renovated. The beach was rocky but the kids had water shoes so they didn’t mind.

Wyndham Alltra Playa del Carmen: Fun!!

This was our second visit as a family to Panama Jack resort. We love the resort and have enjoyed ourselves on both occasions. The food at the buffet is a nice surprise for an all inclusive. We were always well fed with tasty food choices. It’s all about the guacamole there!!! Activities throughout the day led by a friendly and accommodating staff. We like that it is a smaller resort the staff somehow always remembered our names and if you forgot something in your room it wasn’t a day trip  [... read more]to run back. The grounds and public washroom facilities were always well maintained. The beach is not the best for swimming but a short walk will get you your ocean fill. The friendly staff the good food the feel good atmosphere we will go back!!!

Occidental Cozumel: great resort

This was our second time staying at the Occidental and it did not disappoint. Our flights to Cozumel were delayed 3 hours, but the staff stayed around until 2am to get us checked in to our rooms and settled. Beach was clean and maintained and so where the grounds. Everyone was friendly and said good morning. The one disappointment was the service at the Alcart Restaurants. The food was not much better than at the Buffets and the service was terribly slow. Barcelo Maya Caribe: Beautiful Barcelo Maya

This was our first time to the Mayan Riviera and first time at Barcelo Maya Resort. We are a family of three, two adults and a 6 year old son. We stayed for 2 weeks in the Caribe section of the resort. Our room was set back from the beach/pools but was very conveniently located close to the Caribe buffet, the Maya Mall, the Caribe Lobby and the tennis/paddle ball courts. We booked a superior/standard room and it was nice (not fancy but clean and nice). We were on the second floor of the building with a view of the Pirate Island Waterpark. There were two double beds in our room and a sofa bed. The bathroom was large and well equipped (dryer, shampoo etc). We had a nice balcony with clean furniture on it. The room itself was also very clean upon arrival. There was a mini fridge that was kept stocked with drinks (pop, beer, water and juice). There was also a large bottle of water with the coffee maker. The man who restocks the fridges will provide you with more water for the room if you ask him to. The food was delicious. Buffets were always good - not hard to find something for everyone. For breakfast, we often walked over to the Tropical buffet for a change of scenery and liked the layout better than the Caribe buffet. I asked for a buffet schedule from Guest Services and that helped us to decide which buffet to eat at in the evening. We ate at a few of the A La Cartes. They were really good. We especially enjoyed Tokyo where the chef prepared the food right in front of you. It was a great show and the food was so good! The steakhouse was excellent as was the Italian place in the Maya Mall. We always ate lunch at one of the grills near the beach. The one at the Beach section was my favourite because of the beautiful views. We did not see one evening show (they start at 9:30pm) as we were usually exhausted from the day's activities (particularly our 6 year old) and needed to rest. We usually went for a walk around the resort after dinner and enjoyed seeing the numerous weddings that were taking place. We spent many of our mornings in the ocean near the Palace snorkelling with the sea turtles. They are beautiful and quite friendly - there's no need to feed them. I was happy to see some of the lifeguards on the beach asking people not to take bananas into the water to give them (like I tell my son, turtles are not meant to eat bananas - a turtle can't climb a tree to eat a banana). We snorkelled off the pier too a few times. There are a lot of fish there (but again, people are feeding them bread etc. and shouldn't). I don't recommend being in the water if people are throwing bread out - my son was in the middle of a large school of fish that were being fed by some guy and he was not comfortable. If the ocean wasn't ideal for snorkelling, we would play paddle ball or tennis after breakfast. You must book a court ahead of time and get your equipment from the desk near the courts. They provide you with a towel and water if you want it. After lunch we would go to the pool and lounge in the shade. Between the Beach and Caribe pools there is a large shaded structure with ping pong tables and foosball tables. There is also a nice shaded basketball court and lap pool near the ocean in the Beach section. We booked a catamaran ride (free per stay), used the kayaks, the water tricycle and the stand up paddle boards. There's so much to do!! The fitness centre is really quite impressive. It sits behind the Dive Shop in the Spa building between the Caribe and Colonial sections. There are a number of fitness classes they have scheduled throughout the day but it seems that they only run if there are an adequate number of participants. You can get a towel and water there as well. The spa looked nice but was quite expensive - we didn't go. We visited Dec 2-16, 2019 and the resort was decorated beautifully for Christmas. The entire place is so clean and tidy. It is so big that it never felt busy or packed with people. It's easy to find shade by the pool or on the beach. Towels can be found in the activity buildings - no need for a towel card. The entire resort was impeccably clean and tidy during our stay. I really have nothing negative to say about the resort or the staff. We had a wonderful time! In fact, we recommended this resort to friends and they have booked for mid January.

Oh Cancun The Urban Oasis: Not entirely what we expected

The hotel in real life is alot more grittier then the photos you see online. The furniture has damage marks on it and although the bathrooms were cleaned every day there were rust stained marks on the bathroom floor and the sink had a crack in it. There are no fans in the shower area of the bathroom. . The hotel staff including housekeeping, bartenders, reception staff, grounds keepers are all pleasant and want to make your hotel stay wonderful although whenever we called the Front Desk receptio [... read more]n the phone just rang and rang so we gave up. The breakfast that was included with the price of the room was mediocre at best. It was scrambled eggs each morning and sometimes cold. The variety was not there and it appeared that no one was monitoring the breakfast buffet to ensure the utensils used were clean or someone to clean up the messes made by the hotel guests when plating their food. The coffee was awful and no cream was provided. After 3 days we ate breakfast away from the hotel. The pool area is beautiful but too many trees so you only have 2-3 hours at best for suntanning. We specifically booked this hotel because the website stated it was 'adult only'. This was not accurate. We saw children/babies at breakfast and in the pool so not impressed with the deceit. This hotel leans towards being a 'budget' hotel so I would rate it as 2 star at best.The area surrounding the hotel is extremely noisy with lots and lots of traffic and not really pleasing to the eye. The city of Cancun should make improvements to the landscaping in the area as many tourists visit this area. There is no beach anywhere near the hotel so that is a big negative and not what we were told in advance. We had to take an uber or take the bus. There is ongoing tension between the uber drivers and taxi drivers which made it awkward for us as tourists. We enjoyed exploring around the area of our hotel and stumbled across many authentic areas of Cancun which was a bonus.

Dreams Huatulco: Huatulco is lovely

Our top priority was the beach and it was perfect. Beautiful for swimming and snorkeling. Unfortunately we had to get up at 6 to get beach chairs. The room was a good size and the bed comfy. Our garden view wasn’t great as it looked at a sandy hill. Our second room overlooked the square so was quite noisy. This room also had no wifi. Hotel Xcaret Mexico: The best of best hotel ever !

I spent excellent time with my family. We have no time to look around hotel even though facilities of hotel is excellent. We've been most of Parks that included in this package and jaw dropped of scale and care. I want to recommend to family and all travelers who need healing. Dreams Huatulco: It’s all good

Dreams was a beautiful location. As young adults there were not enough activities in the evening although we knew that beforehand. It was everything you imagine in an all inclusive resort. Food was good and plentiful. Beach was great. Eco Tour was fun and exhilarating. Our room was 2201 - we could not access wifi and it was aloud room as it faced the square.

Platinum Yucatan Princess: Wonderful vacation!

We chose this resort for our honeymoon. We had a great time! Great room, good food, beautiful beach, friendly staff! Would not recommend as a honeymoon spot though as they forgot to provide amenities.

Royalton Hideaway Riviera Cancun: Wonderful Stay at the Royalton Hideaway

We stayed at the Royalton Hideaway, overall it was a great stay. Unfortunately, we had an evening flight that was delayed, by the time we reached the hotel we were ready for bed.Once we were checked in we went to our room, and the key didn’t work. We then had to walk back to the concierge, where they were unable to fix our key. We had to have security let us in and we were not able to leave our room until morning when they would be able to fix our keys (thank goodness for room service). Fortun [... read more]ately, the guest services were able to make up for this providing us a dinner on the beach! The resort staff were wonderful, food was excellent (no reservations made it difficult to get in at times) and they always ensured to ask for allergies/food restrictions before seating you. The beach was beautiful, the grounds were well maintained, and the entertainment was always interesting. All in all it was a wonderful fun trip, and we would highly recommend your next vacation at the Royalton in Puerto Morelos!

Breathless Cabo San Lucas: Overall Very Good!

Beautiful setting in a perfect location. We loved our location as we were close to the city, bars and restaurants. Thought the rooms were above average, check-in and check-out experience was smooth and seamless. The staff at all the restaurants and bars were friendly and always will to go above and beyond the call of duty - however the service style is very much 4 star and not 5 - simple examples they would serve you bottle of water at dinner and not bring a glass - sounds little but impo [... read more]rtant. Food variety, taste and quality was again very good. Pool entertainment was fun, loud and just amazing - kind of place if you like to fun and enjoy music. Overall very happy - will go back! Thank you to the team that made stay so memorable. Gym - average at best.

The Fives Beach Hotel and Residences Playa Del Carmen: Beautiful resort

The resort was beautiful. You got a little bit of jungle and than beautiful beach. The food was amazing. The room was so nice! Roof top jacuzzi was awesome!! The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable! Couldn’t have asked for a better honeymoon

Royalton Hideaway Riviera Cancun: No Complaints!

This resort is a perfect example of “You get what you pay for” but in a good way! For that few extra hundred to book at the Royalton we were treated like Royalty! Everyone was so kind, food was tasty, not one complaint! What I loved about the A la cartes was that it was first come first serve basis. It was nice because in the past we have been places where all of the restaurants were booked with reservations to the point we could not get one. Also this is good because many book reser [... read more]vations and just don’t go. Steak house was so good we ended up going twice! Before coming to this resort we did read about the sales pitch for the Time Share thing. It was never pushy or annoying and as far as I’m made aware, every resort is now pushing these time share presentations. We simply said no and they did not bother us. One thing I could see being a complaint for others (it was no issue to us) is it you booked the Hideaway, the adults only section. Considering the main building which hosts check in, restaurants, buffet and the sport bar is part of the kid friendly area, this could be an issue for some. The hideaway is a nice little area exclusive to the adults however if you want to access any other amenities, you will encounter families and children. This did not bother us however we could see how it may affect somebody else’s stay. We booked a swim up suite room. It was amazing, the water temperature was perfect and it was still a part of the action enough to hear the music and see what was going on in the big pool. We did not book the diamond club, but every waiter came right up to our pool to offer us beverages and food almost as though we had our own butler anyways. So it was great. Also, the Diamond Club exclusive pool is a family pool. They do not have an adults only area. Overall, it was one of our best experiences and there are really no complaints. I would say this is the best all inclusive we have gone to by far ! Another bonus is that it was only 15 minutes away from the airport :)

Barcelo Maya Grand Resort: Barceló Maya Grand

The hotel was very nice. Sometimes a bit too big but that is a personal preference I guess. The rooms were clean although every day we had towel shortage a (take 4 to clean leave 3) again not major just annoying. The one part that was simply terrible were their nightly shows with some so bade they simply should not have been on stage.

Temptation Resort & Spa: Place to be in Cancun

Looking for fun, relaxing holidays? Temptation is the place. Play makers are the best, they never let you feel bored of the same place for 7 days. We had lots of fun staying at this resort and would definitely come back again!!

Riu Dunamar: Disappointing, not a 5 star

I am sad to say Riu Dunamar was a big disappointment. The hotel is woefully understaffed and over worked but they aimed to please, here is a quick run through of our family vacation. We are traveling as a family but had our rooms on different wings of the hotel and different floors, this should have been a no brainer as i requested adjoining rooms. The elevator location and the limited number of them is awful, I have back issues and walk with a cane and had specifically asked to be close to an  [... read more]elevator but was over 100 yards away, I guess i should be grateful that i wasn't at the end of the hallway which would of doubled my walk. The hallways to your room are dark and dingy , long wide hallways with only a occasional fire extinguisher for decoration, reminded me of school not a 5 star hotel. The rooms we were given were nothing to write home about, however they were clean and the bed was comfortable, mini bar stocked. This hotel is new (2 years) so everything is in great condition. The buffet is extremely repetitive and after 3 days just down right boring. You do not need a reservation at the 4 restaurants but that doesn't mean your getting in , you will have to line up and hope your one of the lucky ones as they are small and only open 3 hours. None of the restaurants are full service and you will have to go to a mini buffet to get some portion if not all of your meal. They do not restock the buffet or the restaurant buffets in a timely fashion and we experienced that if your not there when it opens you could be out of luck of your favorite dish. There is no coffee bar or room service, premium cocktails are non existent, pool service consists of one guy with a push cart covering 4 pool areas. This hotel would appear to cater to families whose parents neglect and let their children run wild throughout the resort, when we were there the hotel was full, i would say about 1/3 if not more of the guest were children. There is absolutely no quiet or adult areas in this resort except for your room. Our experience was the main buffet was as noisy a school cafeteria, the so called restaurants not much better, very few people dressed for dinner and I believe this sets the tone for the evening. The evening entertainment was varied from boring to ok but after 9:00 your on your own. My entire family had some sort of illness from mild to severe, we did not leave the resort or eat elsewhere which makes me question food quality and hygiene. From my experience here i will have reservations about booking any Riu Hotel in the future, I am a seasoned traveler and have stayed at many 4 star hotels and some 3 1/2 stars in mexico that would put this so call Riu 5 star to shame. So would i return ? No for the following reasons, this hotel is not handicapped friendly, food was 3 star boring, no adult or quiet areas. I have always felt that a 5 star resort should have a wow factor, all you'll find here is a yawn!

All Ritmo Cancun Resort And Waterpark: Amazing Resort!

My spouse and two young children came and stayed at All Ritmo for one week and there was absolutely nothing to be disappointed about. The food was fantastic. Our favourite was the night they had a charcoal bbq outside, so yummy! The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful. Brandon and Steven who were in charge of many of the activities were so fun and personable. The water park was so perfect for the kids and the parents loved having the bar and restaurant right close by. There were beach  [... read more]activities also and the staff work hard to keep the beach nice and clean so we enjoyed the perfect white sand for all our pictures. Overall great place! 10 out of 10!

Barcelo Maya Riviera: Stanning hotel

We stayed 10 nights and overall is impressed with ocean view room , food, service , beech and pools. Outstanding buffet food and staff service very friendly. French , Japanese Restaurants are very good. What we don't like - loud hard rock music in lobby. it so loud you can not talk. Adult resort means different ages of people and not everyone loves this kind of music. The premium lounge had excellent front desk service provided by Valeria Caliz.
