Grand Decameron Complex Bucerias Trademark: Enjoyable

I thought the place overall was a little worn. The room we had lacked the view of the ocean, a nice bathroom, and a few things that could of made our trip more enjoyable. ie: a fridge we requested and never received. The place had some nice el e carte restaurants, we especially enjoyed the Italian restaurant. Some of the entertainment, we took in was good.

Decameron San Luis: Great resort

Great staff grounds were always clean and really amazing service about 15mn from downtown. Accessible by bus from hotel. The locals were always so helpful. Appreciate everything about all the decameron resorts. Thanks to everyone that recommancer it to us.

Grand Decameron Panama: Hot and big

The hotel is very large ,lots of stairs, rooms very clean and are kept that way, staff very friendly some problems with Spanish but you will find a staff mender that does talk English or French, also I have never been check in so fast and even out was just as quick. Beach is great nice and clean and the same as the pools they even have lifeguards on the beach and at every pool. Grand Decameron Panama: 3 Star Experience, but great grounds and beach front.

We ate at three a la Carte Restaurants (Mediterranean; Peruvian; Italian). Each one had substandard food and in non of them could we eat more than a couple of bites of the food. In the Italian, the food was smothered in too much sauce and/or cheese; in the Peruvian restaurant, there wasn't much that was actually Peruvian, and again the food was smothered in sauce; in the Mediterranean, the food was actually Middle Eastern: The Babbaganoush and the hummus were watery, the pita was dry and cold, t [... read more]he meat was very dry and chewy (the dog that we threw the meat to loved it however) and the kibbeh fell apart when you put your fork into it. The service was great at all three. The buffet food was acceptable and usually there was a good meat dish available. There were not enough vegetable dishes however, and the fruit selection was lacking (no mangos, and the passion fruit was over the top sour). There are lots of hills. Which was fine for us. But if you drink a lot and are out of shape then the hills will be an obstacle. We witnessed a few groups of people struggling to get up the inclines. There is hardly any water pressure in the showers between 5:30 and 7 p.m. sometimes there was no water running at all. This was probably as a result of all the people taking showers after their day at the beach. There are not enough shady spots at the beach or at the pools. You will need to get a towel and go and save a chair under an umbrella before 7 a.m.; unless you can handle 33C with a high humidity then you'll be fine in the sun. If your fluent in Spanish and can tolerate mediocre dancing, then the night show is acceptable. They do go on for 15 minutes or more just with talk (Spanish) so be prepared to sit there waiting for the mediocre dancing to resume. The resort is approx. 500 metres from end to end, again this was fine for us as we enjoyed the long walks (although sometimes it was oppressively hot to walk at all). If needed they do have a shuttle service that takes you from one end to the other. This was also somewhat annoying as we walked, as we had to smell the diesel fuel of the vans that were passing by on the sidewalks. There is no dedicated road for these vans and you have to literally step off the sidewalk to let them pass. There are a few interesting tours and they were Ok. We took two tours ourselves with a private taxi driver which you can also hire from the tour companies for a few dollars more per person. The only downside to this is that none of the drivers speak English. They can just point you in the general direction that you need to go. Again this is fine for us as we usually tour on our own and just needed the transportation to get us off of the resort to see the amazing sights that there are in Panama. On a plus side the grounds are very clean and well maintained; most of the staff is friendly and pleased to serve you (other than an incident with a very rude security person and a lifeguard that my husband had); the Spa provides great massages; the beachfront is great for long morning and late afternoon walks. Please note that we are NOT resort people so this resort may be perfectly ok for you. The price point was certainly very reasonable. However, for us we would not do a resort again, unless it was to participate in a "family" vacation with my son, wife and grandson.

Grand Decameron Panama: Great Little Vacation

We stayed at the Royal Decameron Feb 1-5. The grounds are beautiful, although keep in mind this is a large resort, and lots of stairs, steep walkways to climb. We did not travel with children, but one concern I did have would be that the majority of the walkways have "rainwater basins"...that are not all covered. Appeared that the majority of the rooms would have an ocean view from the balcony's since the resort is built up into the hills. Free Wifi available at all 3 lobby's. The pools on the upper level of the resort are lovely, small and quiet if you can find a lounger! The main pools on the lower level next to the beach are large, and busy. We did find it hard to find loungers in the shade and we were out by 7:30/8am. (lots of towels/items placed on chairs to reserve them) The resort could add more umbrellas around the pools in my opinion. A few small river like pool areas; where there were always chairs available in the water and you could position into shade from the trees. It was generally quiet quiet in these areas as well. We did not spend a lot of time at the beach. The sand is course and dark. And the water is known to have a strong undertow. If you are looking to spend much of your time at the beach; there are much nicer places to go to. We went for a quiet vacation just the two of us, and we did enjoy ourselves without disturbances from noise/late partying at night. So I cannot comment to the nightlife at this resort. Grand Decameron Cornwall Beach: Very nice property - solid 4****

My husband and I had the pleasure of going to this resort Feb 1-11 and we are so glad we did. Here are some pros and cons (the cons are few!) Pros: 1) The food is excellent! From the breakfast buffets to the beach grill, one will never go hungry. There is always something fresh on the menu. The a la cart was so good too! We recommend the beef tenderloin and the salmon. 2) The rooms are big, airy and so clean. The bed is comfy too. The fridge is stocked daily with pop, water and Red [... read more] Stripe beer. 3) The grounds and pool are spotless! 4) There are always more than enough sunbeds to go around. Loads of shade due to the construction of the hotel. Half the pool is in the shade all day long so you'll never get sunburned (unless you want to lol) 5) The bar staff in both bars and the drinks are top drawer. They really try hard to be creative with their mixed drinks, their shots and the bartenders antics. They are such a fun bunch and will try hard to make you smile 6) The support staff - from the front desk all the way to tour agents, everyone has one goal to make you relax and enjoy your holiday. Cons 1) The sunbeds at the beach have seen better days. They really need replacing. 2) There really needs to be handrails on the steps around the pool, the bar and leading to the beach. I realize there are ramps but they still need banisters on the steps. And there really needs to be a complete handrail in the pool instead of the half rail that's there now. 3) The beach sand is beautiful and loads of shade, palapas and beach tents so lying on the beach is a pleasure. However, be aware that there is a steep hill of sand to get to the water and when you do, there's a further drop into the water. It's not a place for kids. I'm 5' 6" and by the time I got on solid ground in the water, it was up to my shoulders. This is not the hotel's fault - mother nature is what she is! :-) I would not hesitate to go again and I would also recommend it to my friends. Britney at the front desk is wonderful. She helped allay my fears of the state of emergency in MoBay leading up to the trip. She was right! I felt just as safe and welcome as I always do in MoBay. So if you're going to book this place run, don't walk!!

Definitely this resort has seen better days. When we last stayed there, the food was really good with a lot of variety and quality. This last trip it as poor. The restaurants have also declined in offerings and quality. Surprisingly the worst we visited was the Mexican restaurant, probably the worst we have had anywhere. Our room was near a service road for once of the buffet restaurants and frequently we were awakened anytime between 3 and 6 am by trucks backing in, employees crashing and [... read more] banging, speaking loudly despite the hour and the annoying screech of full volumed security walkie-talkies. The location is quite nice and the rooms are clean but austere.

Grand Decameron Panama: Fantastic holiday!!

Royal Decameron resort is a well maintained vacation paradise. We spent 11 days with great weather everyday. Food was very good at all the restaurants. We would go back in a heart beat. Best part was the beach and the ocean.

Decameron Los Cocos Guayabitos Ramada: Great holiday

This is an update of a review I wrote a year ago. We are just back from three weeks at Los Cocos, for my third visit and my wife’s second and we will go back, hopefully for longer next time. This is an older hotel in five buildings. Road construction has been completed, but it was still over an hour from the airport. The guests are either older Canadians or Mexican extended families. Building 1, 2 and 5 (newly constructed) are on the beach, 3 is across the road (but has larger rooms) and 4 is up the hill and has the superior rooms. Check in and check out were quick and easy. The wifi is considerably better than last year. It is free, and available in the lobbies of buildings 1 and 4 at least, and works around the pool in building 1 as far as La Iguana bar. The main buffet restaurant is excellent. There is good variety and food is generally tasty. Fish and pork are always available and usually chicken. Beef is sometimes on the menu, but is sometimes tougher than we are used to in Canada. There is always some Mexican food, which we found usually to be the best choice. The food is warm but rarely hot. The coffee is much better than last year and is available from early morning until mid evening. The second restaurant has reopened for breakfast and dinner most days of the week, and the snack bar has a limited selection from late morning until around 5:00 including burgers and fries. The menu at the second restaurant is more limited than at the main buffet, consisting of mainly Mexican food. Very nice empanadas some evenings and always freshly done taco fixings. I ate dinner at the à la carte restaurant once and it was a very nice meal, although perhaps not worth getting up early enough to reserve as the food in the buffets is always good. It is a bit of a climb (about 30 stairs) up from the lobby. The lunch buffet there is more limited than at the main buffet, but I thought the food a bit better. Soups were always good. The latest the restaurants are open is 10:30 at night, but from 7:30 in the morning until then, food is always available. There are three bars, open from 10:00 a.m. on. The main one is La Iguana which is across from the buffet along the beach. Los Pelicanos is also on the beach but quieter. There is another at Cocos 4 which we stopped at on the way to lunch at the upper restaurant and I never saw anyone sitting there. The disco serves drinks after the other bars close until 3:00 a.m. The beer on tap is Modelo (Clara and Negra) but they also have Corona in bottles and the rum is Bacardi. My wife tried five types of tequila and there may be others she didn’t. There is a selection of other liquors. The beach has a constant flow of walkers and vendors. It is about 30 minutes to walk to the far end where a stream bed divides Rincon de Guayabitos from La Penita. The beach is fronted by restaurants, trailer parks and hotels. Few of the hotels are higher than four stories and most seem to host Canadian seniors in large numbers. Lots of beach vendors sell everything from food (shrimp, fish, ceviche, nuts, candies) to inflatable beach toys, clothing and handicrafts. Pretty much anything can be bought on the beach, although probably at a higher cost than at one of the many shops in town. Pesos are preferred, but Canadian or U.S. dollars can be used. Canadian dollars can be exchanged at the hotel but at a poor rate. There are at least four ATMs within a ten minute walk, but the service charge is 109 pesos according to someone we spoke to, so best to bring pesos from home, or at least make your withdrawals in larger amounts. There is a market in town on Mondays in the main plaza which is worth a visit. Lots of things for sale, from coffee (ground and beans) to leatherwork, tee shirts, table cloths and much more. There is a larger market in the next town on Thursdays (La Peñita). Beach loungers at the hotel are adequate in number but a bit uncomfortable. Some people bring or buy plastic air mattresses to put on them. I paid 120 pesos for mine on the beach and it made sitting much more comfortable. New this year is an adequate number of plastic chairs on the beach. The loungers around the new pool at Cocos 5 are a different style and more comfortable. This year we did go to the beach club once. It is a ten minute bus ride away in the next town. The bus (free) leaves at 10:00 and returns at 4:00, but if you want to go late or leave early you can hire a taxi. There is a sign up sheet for the beach club and if not enough people sign up, it is closed. We didn’t sign up, but just showed up for the bus and had no problems. The buffet lunch at the beach club was small, but the food was excellent, probably the best we had at Los Cocos. The bar selection was more limited, with no draft beer, only Corona, which wasn’t really cold. The beach at the beach club is smaller and the ocean gets deeper closer to shore, so better if you are a competent swimmer that at the hotel where some wading is required to get to a depth suitable from swimming. There are four small pools. All are unheated and shallow (1.5 metres/4.79 feet at the deep end). The ocean is warmer but sometimes rough. The pools are in the centre of the buildings are not sunny all day. A swim in the pools is brisk. The staff was routinely friendly, seemed happy to be doing what they were doing and are hard-working. Someone was always cleaning or painting. Evidently, everyone takes pride in the place. If you are looking for a five-star hotel with lots of amenities, or a hotel with exciting night-life for young people, this is not it. Best for older couples or those just looking for a quiet time away. For us, it was a great place for a holiday.

Transat - Upon return to Calgary, no one there to push wheelchair to baggage carousel. Club car baggage came LAST not first. On Plane, Pushing button for stewardess completely ignored. Decameron - Did not get requested room from 5301 to 5306. Had much trouble accessing pool steps.Was promised a room change - never happened. Grand Decameron Montego Beach: Scenic Resort

This resort has the best beach on the island. With an amazing activity staff, there is lots to do for every age group. If you want fun, entertainment, good food and very friendly staff, this is your hotel. It is a 3* but you will not even know it once your holiday begins. Non stop fun, beautiful beach, beautiful sunsets. Loved our 1st trip to Jamaica. Thank you friendly people of Jamaica xo

Grand Decameron Panama: Great Beach

The Royal Decameron is an immense resort with an incline to the beach (75 stairs) so be prepared to walk. Rooms were clean and the staff friendly. Food was OK, not spectacular, but very good. It is hot in Panama, bring lots of sunscreen. There are many lounge type chairs, but the ones in the shade are at a real premium. We would certainly go back.

There are NO non-smoking areas around the pools!! And staff INSIST on placing ashtrays at every umbrella! (That’s at approximately every 2-3 loungers)! VERY unpleasant being forced to breathe secondhand smoke when lying by the pool. And even though there are “No smoking” signs at the bar areas, people light up inside, and the managers and staff won’t do anything about it, even though we complained- several times. Thankfully I didn’t notice anyone smoking where food was served. I doub [... read more]t we’ll go back unless they do something about the smoking, eg at the very least they could remove the ashtrays from one side of the pool area. We would not recommend this resort to non-smokers. Even though my overall rating was good, the secondhand smoke issue downgraded the overall rating to “poor”. The resort is in a great area, restaurant staff were great, rooms were very clean, some shows were awesome, but unfortunately the cigarette smoking was a really unpleasant distraction.

The views from the rooms as well as pools and dining areas are fantastic. Everyone works hard and is very friendly. Food great. They have an assortment of things to do,and walking on hip strip was safe during the day.

Grand Decameron Panama: Pros and Cons

Nice resort and beach that is in need of some upgrades. Food quality was very poor in meats and the rest was just ok, even the a la carte restaurants were nothing special. Very few staff members fully understand common English requests, this was extremely disappointing cause if you want to be a tourist location, you must have more English speaking staff.

Likes: Overall cleanliness of grounds and unit was good, food was generally good, staff were first class, nice pools with lots of sun chairs, seeing lots of iguanas Areas for improvement: overall “hot” dishes were routinely not hot in most of the onsite restaurants, room furnishings in need of updating - very tired!

Nice resort Mostly white beech, clean. A great beach for a long walk. In my opinion there ware not enough umbrellas on the beach. Mamy people reserved their spot early morning so they could enjoy nice shade during sunny and hot days.

Decameron Marazul: A small taste of South America

As we had expected the resort could use a little TLC but otherwise was great. The food was absolutely outstanding and the staff always pleasant and polite. The beach wasn't the greatest - small and not that pure white Caribbean sea look. But the island (a quick boat hop away) looked fantastic. About 20 minutes down the road (walking) was another resort Rocky Cay with great beaches. You can take a cab or bus (5minutes)... Everything is so close and cabs are very inexpensive. Our room was alwa [... read more]ys clean and the air conditioner worked perfect. Only drawback ... the hair dryer didn't work. I'd take one along. ... but no biggie. The other guests (mostly from South America) were extremely nice however if you are looking for a more North American orientated resort this might not be for you as 30% of the guests were French or English the remainder South American. When we did have a small language barrier ... guests stepped in the assist us. What a warm and welcoming resort. Go back ... absolutely.

Decameron Marazul: Amazing trip to Marazul San Andres

Our second time there. First time 12 years ago. the place is still very beautiful and updated but not a 5 stars. We love it there has we go from island to island. The sea water is 7 shades of blue to turquoise to glass of water clear. Just awesome. Lots of fish and fun to snorkeling. The food was great and the staff very polite and helpful. We hope not to wait another 12 years to go back. We truly recommend this place.

Beach is beautiful but no waves. Grounds are clean and well kept. Rio Hato airport is literally 10 minutes away - noise from aircraft arriving and departing is not an issue (only 2 or 3 charter flights daily). Housekeeping services were very good - New towels every day. Nightly activities can be a bit noisy if you’re beachfront.
