Riu Santa Fe: Great family vacation
Had read reviews before going that this resort is incredibly well maintained and I couldn't agree more. The staff work so hard to keep the grounds clean. Very impressed. The resort is beautiful and large enough to get a good amount of steps in for the day. Balances out all the food & drinks. So many great spots for photo ops & the views from the main infinity pool are gorgeous. The waterslides are a great feature that kept our teenager busy & having fun. Organized water sports and games were als[... read more]o great. Entertainment staff definitely work hard.
There are enough bars (swim up, walk up, walk in) to accommodate a busy resort. I never waited for any drinks. Drinks, overall, were lacking. Quite sweet and not particularly tasty, but not any worse than I expected. The bar staff are friendly and very quick to get everyone served expeditiously.
Was easy to get in to the a la carte restaurants.
The Asian restaurant was one disappointment. Food was really bad here. Otherwise I give the food a 7/10.
Breakfast is great. A great selection of vegetables and fruit with each meal. Would have loved some variety in the lunch/dinner however. After a week we were pretty bored with the food.
Steak restaurant for dinner - a bit of a disaster. For good steak, the restaurant Kulinarium was a great option. We came here twice, and probably would have gone more, if we had tried it prior to our 2nd to last day. Great service, good food.
Rooms were good. Clean. No mold or humidity like in some South destinations. A very well stocked fridge was much appreciated.
We were a bit nervous with our room being in the 9th building right outside of the party pool where the themed parties were held. Given that we were travelling with a teenager we were worried that it would be too loud with loud music & rowdy party goers. The rooms, surprisingly, block a reasonable amount of the sound & parties ended at reasonable hours that our sleep was not interrupted. A very happy surprise.
Location was great. The beach is gorgeous and LARGE. Downside is water isn't super swimmable, but we knew that when booking & weren't expecting it to be. Can walk for 20-30 minutes to either side of the beach for some exercise. The hotel was about a 30 min walk (very safe!) to the marina of Los Cabos. Highly recommend the walk into town.
Overall, great trip. Would recommend. For the price, it's about what you'd expect, or better.

Riu Guanacaste: It was Great!!!
The staff was friendly and attentive, the food was excellent. The resort was modern and everything was kept clean. The pool was large with lots of room. Being next to the Pacific ocean a real plus, I would go back.

Riu Palace Antillas: Will be looking elsewhere for next year’s vacation
We spent 1 week at Riu Antilles in 2023 and just returned from a 2 week stay there this year.
Pros:
- STAFF EXCELLENT! Everyone goes out of their way to make guests happy!
- Overall the food is good (4 restaurants, 1 Buffet)
- Numerous bars with quick and friendly service
- We feel very safe here
- Hotel, rooms, restaurants, grounds, washrooms and pool areas are kept very clean
- Adults only, which is strictly enforced.
Cons:
Beach area
- Not well maintained - many cigarette an[... read more]d cigar butts
- Palapas require maintenance or replacing - many are in poor condition
- Guests that reserve Palapas at 6 AM then leave chairs vacant for hours (rules are not enforced)
- Loud telephone calls on speaker phone
- Numerous speakers playing various music genres
- Smoking - cigarettes, cigars and occasionally marijuana
Pool area:
- Pool area does not have enough umbrellas to provide shade for all the chairs
- Cigar smoking in the swim up pool
- Washrooms need updating
Misc:
- Loud guests in the hallways late at night (after disco closes)
We will be looking at alternative resorts for next year. Our main concerns are the inability to secure a Palapas without waking up before the sun rises and the lack of umbrellas around the pool. We head south for beach and pool enjoyment but consider shade to be an essential element that Riu Antilles does not adequately provide. While the staff are phenomenal, we have witnessed, on both visits, a number of guests that are totally inconsiderate of the enjoyment of others.

Riu Palace Antillas: Magical place
We loved this resort. The staff was amazing, the food great and the rooms very clean. The highlight was all the live music. We loved the boardwalk for morning walks. A market place is only a five minute walk from the Riu with lots of fun restaurants. We had a great vacation.

Riu Ocho Rios: Jamaica No Problem, Mon
Cross-posted to Trip Advisor. Where to start... overall this trip was fantastic, the resort included. Would highly recommend the resort, Jamaica, and Riu properties. Would highly recommend the resort, Jamaica, and Riu properties. If I came back to this area I would no doubt stay here again.
- Beach: The nicest beach I've seen to date, especially on calm days. There is a reef just outside the swimming area. Bring your snorkel and enjoy it. If you're not a comfortable swimmer, bring a floatie.[... read more] So many fish to see (and stingrays if you're lucky)!
- Pools: seemed nice, didn't spend much time in them. Two swim up bars, one quieter infinity pool and a large activity pool.
- Waterslides: so much fun. Faster than you would expect! If you aren't familiar with how to go down the waterslides, make sure to ask for the proper form. Not much direction offered from the staff.
- Entertainment: The crew and the entertainment itself is amazing. Huge shoutout to these staff who literally never stop! Lots to do during the day and evening.
- Food was good, the buffet can get a bit repetitive and would have loved to see more Jamaican food but overall very good food. Don't miss the Jerk chicken! And for late night snacks, the Sports Bar is open 24/7. A la cartes were very good.
- Kids Club: the staff that worked there we SO FRIENDLY and the facilities looked great, no kids though so I didn't use it.
- Large property but never felt busy. NO VENDORS on the beach which was amazing. Lots of lounge chairs and shade on the beach. As usual, people reserve loungers at the pool and then never even use them. Limited elevators, so if mobility is an issue book a ground floor.
- Excursion: Booked through Scuba Caribe, took the catamaran cruise to snorkeling and then hiked up Dunn's River Falls. Totally worth it, great experience. Had a videographer that followed us and the video and pictures was totally worth the extra $40 USD.
Last notes:
- Riu app is very good - restaurant reservation and other requests are through that.
- long transfer to and from the airport (2+ hours) - if this is a deal breaker, book a private transfer.
- visited in March, and the grounds, pool, and beach get shady early (4 PM). This might change as the months change.
- the resort does a foam pool party, a white night party on the beach, and a glow party. Bring your all white outfit and neons!
- surprised that the smell of weed did not permeate every area of the resort. You'll catch a whiff here and there every once in a while, but not more than that.
- felt very safe in Jamaica. Far safer than DR or Mexico

Riu Ocho Rios: Wonderful family vacation!
We were guests in 2016 and at that time the hotel decor was very dated but even so the food and the amenities were still great. The upgrades to the resort since then have really elevated the experience - the rooms, buffet area, the swimming pools, the walkways. The addition of the water park/slides was a huge hit with both the kids and the adults.
We were very happy with the resort - our family group of 8 adults and 4 children had a fantastic time.
Service at the front desk and in th[... read more]e main restaurant/buffet was excellent. Lots of food choices for both adults and children. The grounds are very well kept and lots of staff throughout the resort ensure a clean environment. Staff helpful, friendly and responsive.
Never had a problem finding loungers either in the pool area or on the beach.
Enjoyed the variety of entertainment in the evening as well as the foam party and beach party. Live bands were excellent. Activities at the pool were lots of fun and the entertainment staff really worked hard to get guests involved
The Riu app was helpful for making restaurant reservations, requesting additional towels or just learning more about what the hotel has to offer.
If I had to find any areas I’d like to see improved it would be
1) the black garbage bins and the plastic cup and plate bins in the main pool area be better cleaned out and washed both inside and out. Same for cleaning the side tables by the pool loungers - often sticky from everyone’s drinks etc.
2) some different snacks in the Sports Bar - perhaps bags of chips, pretzels etc rather than just nachos everyday
Otherwise, excellent experience!

Riu Flamingos: I would return!
The grounds were amazing and so well-groomed. The restaurants were also very good. It was nice to not have to book any in advance and you could go to any one as many times as you wished. Beach and pools were awesome. More shade at the beach is needed (at no cost). The hotel is very nice though a few updates could be done such as new mattresses and bedding but they were not that bad. The people are terrific. Housekeeping was very good. That said, we found that we couldn't get water, fridge items [... read more]or coffee replaced regularly. It would be more efficient for the hotel if one could order what they want. For instance, we only wanted water, beer and diet Pepsi in the fridge but all non diet drinks remained in the room and we had to find the bar cart to get more diet Pepsi. Also, if someone only uses creamer in their coffee, the packets with sugar, Splenda, creamer and stir sticks is a waste.
I would rate this resort an impressive 8/10 and plan to return.

Riu Caribe Cancun: Excellent hotel and vacation experience.
Many aspects of this hotel are world class. Newly renovated with contemporary design, and maintained in spotless condition.
RIU do this kind of vacation experience very, very well and have brought a 'Euro vibe' with the 'RIU Party' themes held at this hotel, in a purpose-build area. These are very lively, wonderfully organised, and very well managed security-wise etc.
Food was excellent for this kind of '5 star' all-inclusive experience. Buffets were well stocked with a wide variety of hi[... read more]gh-quality, well-cooked dishes. Breakfast service, with the table staff was a bit sparce and slow, and having water glasses at the table would have been good. Lunch and dinner had better service; dinner service had water glasses. Wine quality was decent and typical of these hotels. The 'a-la-carte' restaurants, whilst I think these are never of the standard of actual external high-end restaurants were, nonetheless, very good; the food was delicious and the service excellent.
The bar staff were attentive and friendly; the swim-up-bar the best I have experienced, with the staff having a wonderful, fun-loving attitude and keeping the drinks flowing. The sports bar is well air-conditioned and a welcome break from the heat.
The reception moved my room as I didn't get my booking when I arrived. They were extremely helpful. The rooms, again newly renovated, were the best I have experienced on these vacations - well equipped, comfortable beds, very clean - housekeeping is excellent.
Beach was very good - beautiful sand, not much seaweed (cleared every morning). Seawater quality was excellent. The adjoining RIU hotel seemed to permit beach access which made the beach seem a bit longer, although, disappointingly, access to this RIU hotel was not permitted. I did walk one day 4km to another RIU hotel to which I had access. Again, it was very good but not as good as this one.
In this area of Cancun, hotels are closer together and the whole experience is more intense than, say, Playa del carmen. That's the kind of holiday this is - more lively and a terrific hotel for groups and parties. It is somewhat child-friendly, but not significantly so.
I was very impressed with and thoroughly recommend this hotel. If I go back to Cancun, I would want to stay here. Well done RIU!

Riu Republica: Great resort for adults only!
Riu Republica is a great resort for adults only. Of course if you travel in March like I did there will be thousands of teenagers from the US universities spring break, so get ready for LOUD! That being said, these teenagers where all very respectful and it was nice seeing them bonding and having a great time. The resort is super clean, rooms are quiet, many restaurants to choose from, food is o.k. (I'm from Montreal, nothing beats our food) clubs every where, lots of entertainment. There is[... read more] theme parties every second day bringing you by bus to other Riu hotels. If you want to dance, get drunk, then you get on the bus! The water park is always fun, but the beach is beautiful, and where you want to spend your time, depending on the day, you can get a calm beach or vary waivy, which is always fun. The Riu casino is small, really small, out dated, and depressing. If you are in to casino's I recommend you pay the $20 US to go to the Hard Rock Cafe Hotel Casino. It is really nice, very big, and there is a lot of shops down the strip from the casino. The employees are friendly, so please bring a lot of $1 bills so you can TIP (To Insure Promptness) as it is always appreciated. I would always tip $1 everytime I grab drinks at the bar or served a drink, a couple dollars when I went for lunch at the buffet, and $5 for a sit down dinner. It is so important to tip, giving back.
All in all, it was great to relax at this beautiful resort. I'm happy I booked with Louise Endean from Trip Central, she was amazing with her service from start to finish.
Have fun, bon voyages!

Riu Negril: Less than satisfactory stay at the Rui Negril
The resort, the grounds and the beach in general was beautiful. The rooms we had were less than ideal. We were told we would have rooms side by side and they confirmed this at check in but in fact the rooms we were given were not side by side. They were two rooms apart which was challenging as we were back and forth between rooms a lot with a 4 year old and not being right beside each other was challenging.
The rooms were quite musty smelling. The keys stopped working at least twice a day and[... read more] we had to go to reception each time to get them reprogrammed. At one point they had to call maintenance because even the reprogrammed key would not work. They had to reprogram the actual locks on both room doors.
Regarding housekeeping, even though we put the sign out to make up the room, we had to call for towels and blankets that had not been replaced.
On the beach we had a little girl come ask if she could play with my grandson. Assuming she was a guest at the resort we said sure. Within a few minutes we asked where her mom was and it turns out her mom was one of the vendors who walked along the beach. The mom actually took off and left the little girl with us and we had to go to reception to tell a manager there was a little 8 year old girl left alone on the beach. The little girl told us her mom had been banned from selling on the beach in the past, so I wonder if the resort needs to do a bit more monitoring of vendors on the beach at the resort.

Riu Flamingos: Entertaining Beach Resort
Staying at Riu Jalisco was a lot of fun. Their nightly and daily entertainment and events were so well put together and executed. It was a great size resort to walk around to the pools, beach and restaurants. Very clean and the staff are very friendly. A few things to note- it is a small resort, so if you don’t want to be up late, consider that you will hear the entertainment, club and other guests well into the late hours of 11pm and later every night no matter what. There are three or four res[... read more]taurants: all are variations of the same buffets give or take some difference and some are larger and open at different times. There is a nicer “piazza” where you can also order off a small Italian menu. The lunch buffet had some challenges where there is one buffet on the beach that was very hard to find a table to eat at that was clean or available due to lack of monitoring how many eat at once. Breakfast buffets could also be difficult to find seating at past 9am. Overall it was a wonderful experience and we would not hesitate to stay here again as a young couple who wanted a balance of relaxation, on resort entertainment and proximity to main excursions.

Riu Emerald Bay: Lovely Resort with beautiful beach
The resort is beautiful. This is by far the cleanest, best cared for property we have every stayed at. The service was exceptional throughout the resort. Been to several all inclusive properties and the service at this one really stood out be it the restaurants, Bars, housekeeping or just asking someone for directions. Riu Flamingos: RIU Jalisco
Good location on the beach.
Cons:
You have to pay at least 15 American $ for an umbrella, to get some shade.
Hotel is noisy at night constant slamming of doors. A guy tried to break down our door, insisting that we were in his room.
Frightening experience. We barricaded the door with the table, so he couldn’t get in. When we called the front desk, they said there was very little security and the guy was probably drunk. Nothing was done about it.
There is a gym, there are three treadmills. T[... read more]wo were broken. The benches to work out on, quite filthy, I don’t think they were ever cleaned.
Pros.
Restaurant staff are very nice. Food, for an all inclusive was quite good. Lots of fruit, good variety of entrées. The Italian à la carte was just OK. The “steakhouse” was better.
