Starfish Varadero: Fantastic Vacation
Visited Jan 27 to Feb 3rd, 2016. Travelled with a friend and we booked single accommodation. On arrival, we were assigned rooms in different wings. In under 10 minutes we were moved closer together, 1606 and 1610. Fantastic newly renovated rooms, new bathrooms with tubs, very convenient. We had visited 3 years ago and the upgrades at the resort were very notable, I know there is still a lot to be done and it does not happen overnight. The promised beach towel and water were in the room and water [... read more]
Carisol los Corales: So, so
Smallish resort, somewhat rundown. Friendly staff. Oceanview upper level bungalow had it's own sundeck! Food terrible. Small beach, need water shoes for the stones. No tequila or brandy. Still, a quaint comfortable feel. Many dogs.
Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: Overcrowded!
Flight with Sunwing was delayed. Couldnt get into our room when we got there at 2am as the key didnt work. Got moved down the row a few. We were not put in the correct section that I booked. Safe didnt work, my husband had to fix it. Lone line ups for everything. Full of rude French people and bikers. No shade on main beach. Have to get up at 7am to reserve (pay) for chairs at the private beach. Rude staff who cater to big tippers before anyone else. Shows were mostly loud Cuban music. We didnt [... read more]
Starfish Varadero: Nice place
Food good, beautiful beach however maintenance problems I.e.no working air conditioner and plumbing problems Entertainment great every night and pool area clean. Close to Havana for visit and hop on off bus to town of varadero
Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: disappointed
Room was sparsely furnished, blankets worn, mattresses terrible. Had to pay for bottled water and room safe. Told them my wife has MS yet we were place on a unit farthest from main hotel and dining areas. This was gift and giver felt very bad.
Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: 8 times at this hotel butlast trip dissapoinment
1st.room without a seaview 2nd. On 2nd.day i had cancelled at the reception counter the use of the inroom safety box (2cuc. A day) and they still charged me 28 CUC $40+can when chekout time... AND ALSO While waiting for someone to arrive At the hotel entrance while i was leaning against a wooden door frame I also wreked a brandnew $50 t-shirt because they had just repainted IT without any WET PAINT SIGN or WHATSOEVER... I have been to this hotel 8 times in the past , i once been with 14 people a [... read more]
Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: Another Great Time At Club Amigo Guardalavaca
This is our second visit to the Club Amigo Guardalavaca. We had such a great time the first time that we wanted to go back. The workers are all so nice and are always very attentive. The food was fine, we did not go hungry, infact we ate so much that by the fourth day eating was the last thing on our minds lol. Rooms are always kept clean. The beach was amazing and nice to be able to share with the locals. Pizza restaurant outside of the resort by the market was a great place to go and beer and [... read more]
Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: The friendly place
This resort is a bit of an old chestnut. Parts of the resort are old and worn, while other parts are being renewed. Excellent location next to the ocean. The service is friendly from an experienced staff.
Starfish Varadero: A touch post-apocalyptic but overall...FUN!
My sister and I had a great time but the grounds were super sketchy and run-down in a lot of areas, all the meat tasted weird or was undercooked (I ate a lot of bread), we couldn't snorkel because the water was very churny and rough most of the time, I'm covered in bites, the locals are AGGRESSIVELY flirty, and my stomach did NOT fare well. But, you know, CHEAP! Most of our fun was based in off-resort activities: going to the town of Varadero, a catamaran excursion, and visiting the nearby Cuev [... read more]
Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: 3rd time visiting
My last two trips to this resort I gave this place a 4 star review because of the great time I had. The staff is for the most part very helpful, the grounds are well maintained and while the buildings themselves are quite old they are clean and functional. My reasoning for going down a star this time is because: 1. The beach needed a little more TLC (seaweed, cups, straws etc all over) and 2. My biggest complaint..they need to get designated smoking areas. Most of the smokers have no regard for [... read more]
Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: Exceptional resort
The hotel was clean comfortable the staff could've been more friendly and More willing to aid in your problems.. I thought that the staff could have understood better English .. But other then that the beaches we're beautiful the pools and entertainment was great.. Had a great time and would visit again
Carisol los Corales: If you want to live a real "Cuban" experience...
If you want to live a real "Cuban" experience that's the place to go. Staff are always pleasant and try to help you. Be ready to see different little problems every day... Electricity stops sometime, the toaster might be defective for few days, the resort might experience a shortage of fruit juice or the front destroy are running out of CUC money... But all these are part of your "real" experience. If you want a perfect sandy beach, go to Varadéro but if you like to to skin diving in a nice cor [... read more]
Starfish Varadero: jewel in the rough
The staff were all really friendly and they really did their best to help. What one has to remember is that a 3 star in Canada is not the same as a 3 star in another part of the world. It is interesting to see what we take for granted. To see someone giving the staff a difficult time for something that is not their fault is very unfair to the staff and really makes me feel bad and somewhat ashamed that a fellow visitor finds it necessary to belittle the staff.
Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: Nice Resort but...
Not enough staff to keep up very large grounds. Rooms were OK some had need of care like any resort. Food was not good, same all the time and little selection Some bars better than others. NO bar on beach and the beach was Public so locals were always at your side. Not comfortable situation. The Cafe staff were wonderful! Had a good week but would viist another part of Cuba next time.
Starfish Varadero: Beautiful Beach!
It is old but, we had a great bungalow. The beds aren't great but they will do. The beach is fantastic and the water is warm and clear. There were plenty of food choices and the bread is the best anywhere. They really go all out with entertainment. They even had a little animal circus. The animals were healthy and well looked after. It was fun for the kids. The staff are very nice and helpful. We didn't have any problem hanging money at the desk. Oh and there was plenty of booze and the beer is [... read more]
Starfish Varadero: Average
Average for what you pay I enjoy for a one week stay.the stop are friendly,And I enjoyed the seafoods .i been to this hotel twice I enjoy it,except this hotel needs maintenance its leeking everywhere,
Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: Very friendly, accommodating staff.
This is an older hotel but the staff kept the buildings and grounds very clean. They could have paid a little more attention to small details such as making sure that there was always toilet paper available in the common areas and having the hand dryers working or paper towels in lieu of that. The staff members were always very friendly, and very kind and helpful.
Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: Average resort
Did not like all the smoking expeciately the cigars in the lobby drinks where to strong lack of ice cubes lucky to get two small ones per drink long line ups for food not enough grills for the amount of people shows starts to late no hot water In the mornings for a shower mosquitos in the rooms got eaten alive food was just edible employers were fabulous very friendly beach was beautiful
Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: The best relaxed resort
Club Amigo is a very relaxing resort, with lots to do or not do which ever your choice is. We have gone to this resort 8 times now and will go back again. Anytime we have ever had a problem, the employees have always taken care of us right away. Beautiful surroundings, trees, beaches and rooms. An very inexpensive trip for the ones that can't afford too much but will be impressed with 5 star surroundings in a 3 star resort. Well worth the trip.
Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: Not as good as it used to be.
My wife and I have been to Club Amigo 20 times but after this trip we may never go back! It was always a fun place to go to but something has changed. The swim-up pool was green for two days until it was treated. The Santa Maria snack near the swim-up pool was often running out of fish, spaghetti, and fries daily. The 24 hour sank bar was a much better option for lunch but they got as bad as the other snack-bar towards the end of our second week. We went there as the line-up for the upstairs buf [... read more]
