Dreams Aventuras Riviera Maya: Dreams Puerto Aventuras-Pleasantly surprised.
After reading many negative reviews about this resort, I had pretty low expectations and I was a little nervous of our upcoming stay. After staying there for a week, I must say that there are many truths to some of the reviews but the trip is also what you make out of it and how high your expectations.
We got an excellent deal on resort and you get what you pay for and that's exactly what we got. On arrival, I was surprised at how small the lobby was, it was also very hot and humid but we we[... read more]re promptly greeted by staff and given a glass of champagne. Check in was quick and our rooms were ready as soon as we arrived.
The room was small and dated and was hot on arrival. The AC was set to 15degrees but the room was still showing 22degrees. We immediately when down to the lobby to have someone fix the AC and someone was in our room within 20 minutes to fix the AC. We never had any issues with the AC for the rest of the stay. Like I said, the room was small, very dark and very dated. The lamp in the room was filthy and the night stand and main table in the room was fairly sticky. The bathroom mirror was corroded and the sink fixtures and tray with toiletries was dirty. The room is very dark and only has a lamp to light the entire bedroom area. We had no issues with clogged toilets and the shower pressure was really good and the tub drained fine.
We had no issues with having our fridge stocked up daily and was always able to get lots of new towels from hotel staff.
The restaurants were not all open due to it being low season. We managed to eat at all of the restaurants with the exception of the Sea Side Grill. All of the restaurants were petty good, food came out hot. The buffet was a little disappointing. There weren't very many choices and it seemed like the same food from the previous day was being served the next. There is always a lot of Mexican style food being served and not enough "American" food. There was also a lack of seafood at this resort, unless you ordered a tiny piece of mahi mahi or salmon from the a la carte restaurants, there was no fresh fish or shrimp. There was no shrimp for the entire week of our stay. We were also surprised that there was no top shelf liquor here. We stayed at a sister resort and had no trouble getting top shelf alcohol like Grey Goose or even Don Julio tequila.
The Barefoot grill had amazing pizzas and we ate this every single day, multiple times a day. The grill would also put out a small buffet in the late afternoon which was very nice as well.
The outdoor buffets were our favorite and really enjoyed the food here, there was an abundance of meat choices as well as vegetarian choices.
The staff at this hotel were amazing! Every single person we interacted with went above and beyond and made the effort to get to know us and what we liked.
The entertainment staff was exceptional. They truly made our stay and without them, we probably wouldn't have enjoyed. We always looked forward to Giovanni and his energy and his whole team. There was a lot of activities to do and shows in the evening although they did end pretty early. The sports bar was also a nice place to go to in the evening, another pool table would have been nice as well as a dart board.
The pool is small and gets quick murky near the end of the day but the staff was working hard throughout he day fishing out leaves and debris as well as fixing broken tiles in the pool. The beach is also small but it was nice to be able to snorkel here. We had no trouble with beach chairs but it was low season.
Overall, our stay was better than expected and we enjoyed ourselves.

Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya: Good for families
The resort is pretty nice, the grounds are beautiful. Lots of cool animals. We paid to upgrade our room which was a nice room but the toilet didn't flush properly. The upgraded room came with wifi and a safe! Down side was the buffet was awful, the only decent meal was breakfast. There was a lot of families there, it's not a place for people who want to party.
Everyone is pretty much in bed by 10:30, sky bar is pretty lame and the disco is even more lame, also empty! The lazy river was pretty[... read more] cool though. Overall I would rate this resort a 3... it wasn't terrible but it wasn't great.

Akumal Bay Beach and Spa Resort: Paradise Found
Our travels took us to Akumal Bay Beach and Wellness Resort for a wedding. We did not know that it was a haven. The staff was excellent and very accommodating. This is a rather quiet resort, except for our group, which I am sure kept everyone else up into the early hours. However, we were all humbled by the conservation efforts of all staff, volunteers and including guests, who witnessed the birth of the Green Turtle babies and watching them on their journey to the ocean. We will definitely go[... read more] back!

Selection Riviera Cancun: One of the best resorts i have been too
I have been all over Mexico - 12 times to be precise. This is one of the best I have been too. Food was excellent - top quality even at the buffet. Beds soft and great view from all rooms. 24hr room service available and food came fast and hot. Resort very small and intimate, everything was less than 3-5 minute walk. No need to book restaurants, you could go to as many as you want as often as you want. No arms bands.
Only negatives where - beach very rocky need water shoes. Adult only restaura[... read more]nt you need to book early as you might not get in as we didn't. Purchased wine with dinner not worth it - however house wine was great.
Coffee bar extra cost. However never pressured to buy anything. Staff were amazing - always helpful. Resort more suited for the 40+ crowd, quite and relaxing.

Margaritaville Island Reserve Riviera Cancun: Resort was Excellent !!
The grounds, upkeep and cleanliness of the resort were fabulous. Service very attentive and top notch. Staff wonderful and Food excellent !!
The beach staff and Concierge were very attentive and service on the beach was over the top.
The only thing I would have asked to change was that the entertainment in the evenings should begin earlier - 8pm rather than 9pm

Occidental at Xcaret Destination: Monkey Heaven!
This resort was absolutely amazing. Starting from the wonderful staff to the rainforest aspects.
The pros: the breakfast buffet by the beach was absolutely stunning due to the views.
The lunch time buffet on top of the pool bar had the best burgers and chicken wings
Paco Taco for supper was delicious (it's open super late too so for the ones that love the disco, you can end your night at This restaurant)
The margaritas and Bloody Caesars were amazing.
The rooms were spacious, modern and com[... read more]fortable. We had monkeys on our balconies all the time, they are extremely friendly.
Even though the resort was at 90% capacity, we never felt as though it was busy or packed. We always had a beach chair available to us.
Cons: the staff asking for VIP meetings was abit excessive.

Barcelo Maya Beach Resort: Amazing resort.
This is our 2nd time at the resort for our wedding anniversary and we must say we had no issues.
We always stay 10 days. The room, food, staff and grounds were all great.
Considering all the weather out there; we actually had it pretty good. Sure some rain but that is normal and no damage at the resort.
The resort treated us special, had champagne and cake for us in the room, the beach is great, we got to stay in Uxmal building again woohoo and ocean well what can I say it was wonderful. We a[... read more]re total beach bums.

The Fives Beach Hotel and Residences Playa Del Carmen: Great resort!
Rooms could use some updating as there seems to be a lot of water damage, but we still had a wonderful time and the food was hands down the best we've had at any all inclusive. The pool right outside our room made it seem like we had our own private pool.

Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya: Beautiful resort
The resort is beautiful, different from all the others that we had been in so far. The decor in the room is very chic, the grounds are well kept and an interesting mix of landscaped gardens and natural jungle like environment.
Beautiful beach with white sands and good service from entertainment, cleaning and dar tendering.
Amazing wildlife in the water; you go snorkeling not too far and see tropical fish, giant sea turtle's and stingrays
The restaurants are good but a little disorganised; t[... read more]hey don't make reservations, it's first come first served and everyone wants to eat dinner pretty much around the same time. It's obviously getting busy and they don't do much to speed up but are rather slow . We spent more than two hours in the French restaurant one evening.
They do their best to accommodate you if you ask or complain and I was happy with the service.

Grand Sunset Princess: Fabulous time away!
Hotel and grounds were incredible. The staff were always helpful and smiling. Went with three buddies and had a great time. Only complaint was the Thai food at the Miso restaurant. Seemed like they used the same sauce for every dish and it certainly wasn’t an authentic Thai sauce.

Iberostar Selection Paraiso Maya Suites: We LOVE Iberostar Paraiso Maya !!!
My wife and I have just returned from our 42nd trip to this Resort. We used to travel around trying different places but this one has everything we truly enjoy. First of all, it is not too far from the airport and cool, comfortable minivans are used as shuttles instead of large, smelly buses. I'm sure nobody enjoys riding a bus immediately after a 4 hour flight.
*For your peace of mind, the Resort is secure and gated and security personnel regularly patrol the entire compound morning, noon and [... read more]night.
Our arrival and check-in always goes smoothly. The bellboys take the bags from the minivan and place them under watchful eyes while guests proceed to the front desk. As there are never more than 2 or 3 couples checking-in, the process happens quickly without waiting or lineups. New identification wristbands are made from a very comfortable cloth instead of that old-style sticky plastic. Once a room number is assigned (the rooms are always ready), that number is given to the bellboys and you are taken by them in golf carts to your room.
The property is "manicured" daily by an army of groundskeepers. In other words, the Resort is clean and beautiful. No matter how many times we visit, we always notice something new and interesting. If you ever grow tired of sitting on the beach or at the pool, you will be fascinated by a walk around the grounds.
Of course the rooms are also cool, clean and very comfortable. However, if you do find something that is not to your liking, for example a wobbly toilet seat, just let your Concierge know and the concern will be addressed and/or fixed right away. Each building has it's own Concierge who will be happy to help you with ANYTHING at all.
This brings us to the Resort staff. From the management to the janitors, to say they are pleasant, polite and extremely concerned with your every comfort would be an understatement. Take some time to meet them. What an incredible group of people! Would you like dinner reservations at a particular restaurant? Done! Did you forget something at home? Let them surprise you with a new one by delivering it, free of charge, to your room. Would you like to learn some Spanish? Ask anyone! Is there a particular brand of alcohol which you prefer but is not stocked on the premises? Don’t be shocked if they send somebody to the liquor store for you! These people are unbelievable! They do everything they can to EXCEED your expectations.
One thing which we most enjoy is meeting and getting to know the employees. One thing we least enjoy is finding out, upon a return trip, that one of our many friends is not there anymore because they have moved on to new employment. It is sad but there are always new people to meet. Believe me, the Resort would not be the same without these GREAT people.
The food is fantastic. In fact, the food in the buffets is so good and daily so diverse, that there really is no need for the specialty restaurants located around the Resort.
Iberostar Paraiso Maya has it’s own golf course. A beautiful layout which is also maintained to perfection. In fact, Big Break Mexico was filmed there a few years ago and I was thrilled to watch the World Team Golf Championships which were held there. Green fees for guests are just $59 and that includes the cart. One really nice feature is that the “all-inclusive†aspect of the Hotel extends to the on-course beverage cart!
*My only words of caution will be advise you all to avoid spring break. Anywhere! Teenagers are (and YES, I used to be one) insane, loud and inconsiderate.
Finally, and also for your peace of mind, please be confident that the water served in restaurants and buffets IS bottled and clean. Drink all you want without fear of Montezuma’s Revenge. Just don’t do anything stupid, like trying to impress your friends by power-drinking in the hot sun, and I promise you will have a fabulous vacation.

Sandos Caracol Nature Resort and Water Park: Awesome Jungle
These were the most natural grounds that we have experienced. Once you walk out of your room you are in the jungle. With lots of animals wandering around. We saw coati, raccoons, birds- parrots( unfortunately only in cage) , peacocks, interesting looking blackbird with beautiful blue wings, monkeys and then there were farm animals - donkeys, sheep, pigs. The beach was not the best for wading as there were many rocks but oh so many fish to see. You did not even require a snorkel and mask. But do r[... read more]emember the water shoes.
The evening entertainment was awesome. Usually there are 3 Miyan shows each week. Plus other shows on the other nights.
All of the staff are fantastic and very friendly. They are great representatives for the hotel. The food was very good and you had your choice of buffet or a la carte every evening! Only required a reservation at the Japanese restaurant. Our room was always very clean but there were a few days when housekeeping did not come til 4:00 in the afternoon. The only problem we did encounter was our key (electronic card) was malfunctioning for about 4 days due to the humidity at this time of year. This required us waiting for security personnel in order to get into our room and then waiting in the room while they repaired it. A lot of time was wasted waiting to get access to our room. This was not an isolated situation as there were others experiencing the same problem. Overall we enjoyed the hotel.

Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda: Amazing Resort
Food was delicious, friendly staff, clean resort. The Beach was okay, did not go in the ocean as it was not clean could be dirty due to Hurricane Irma and Maria going through. But we did sit at the bar on the beach and it was great. All the pools were clean and big lots of room to swim or walk in. Great idea with the beer/beverage cart and Popsicle/ice cream cart around the pool.

Barcelo Maya Colonial: Grace
We just came back from our trip to Mexico. To tell you the truth we didn't like much our vacations. The beach has a lot or rocks and a lot of waives, we couldn't swim with the babies. The buffet was way to far from our suite and was impossible to walk with the babies 3 times per day because it was too hot.
But the most important thing was that I was looking to go to a nice beach that I can swim with the babies and this time I couldn't do it. That was very bad. Excellence Riviera Cancun: Perfect second stay at the ERC
We traveled as a couple from Sept. 18 to 25, 2017. Booked an Ocean Front Roof Top Terrace in the Excellence Club. We arrived around 13:30 and check in was a breeze at the EC lobby. Our room was perfect and the Terrace, WOW, spectacular! We did enjoy the view, the plunge pool every morning and every night. We absolutely LOVED it!
Everything was perfect from day one until we left. Everyone one we meet is smiling, acknowledging you with a warm and friendly Hola!! Always making sure we are having[... read more] a great time and more than willing to help out in any way! Service from everyone was great everywhere on the resort. If you want a shaded spot by the EC pool, get ready to be out before 7 to reserve a spot. Otherwise, there were always plenty of available chairs or bed on the beach. Servers come every 10-15 minutes to make sure you have all you need. EC staff come with you, brings a bunch of towels to prepare your chairs for you, bring some treats during the day, clean your glasses, etc... We were spoiled!!!
Food was great like last time. We enjoyed Chez Isabelle Twice, Basmati, The Lobster house and a romantic dinner on the beach. Every meal was great! The lobster house for breakfast close to the beach is a must. One morning my wife wasn't very hungry and asked if she could have a plate of a few assorted cheeses. You should have seen the plates they brought. It is never a bother, always so helpful and trying their best to make sure you have the best vacation possible.
We have tried many 5 star resorts over the years and The ERC is the one for us. Just big enough that no matter where your room is, you are no more than a 5-7 minute walk away from anywhere you want to go, great beach, Quiet and not so quiet pools everywhere, great rooms, clean, wonderful gardens, amazing staff, no bracelet, no dinner reservation, 9 or 10 restaurant to choose from and close to the airport.
Again we highly recommend it, great value well worth the money!!
