This is our 6th time back to the Riu Palace Bahamas. Although the resort itself can use some updates it is a great choice for the value. We travel there every September. The weather is great. The beach and the ocean are beautiful. Food is fantastic, especially the a la Carter at Krystal's. The Atlantas hotel and casino is right next door and you can walk through the aquarium after 6pm at no extra charge. We will continue to vacation here as long as possible

Riu Palace Paradise Island: VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!
I am going to start off by saying our trip advisor Beth Mckinley did not do her job properly and we feel as if after we decided to pay for the trip and she was compensated she did not have any interest in making sure our trip went well or answering any questions, other than directing to links where I had to search for the information myself.
I had asked her to apply the trip insurance multiple times and Beth kept saying she would contact me and never did and then said we can just go into the [... read more]trip advisor place or call in ourselves to get the trip insurance added on, I ended up calling CAA to use them and was quite disturbed at the lack of customer service.
On top of Beth not caring to help us out after we had paid for the trip she had forgot to mention that there would be a shuttle picking us up from the airport so we ended up taking a taxi that cost us $45 instead of a FREE shuttle ride, she also forgot to mention that the resort gourmet restaurants require you to wear long pants, this was a crucial detail that most trip advisors tell you about and because of this we had trouble going to those gourmet restaurants and had to wear workers pants that the hotel provided us with.
We were also informed by our trip advisor that this place spoils you on your honeymoon and that she had called ahead of time to make sure they were aware that we would be going on our honeymoon, NOTHING happened through the entire trip we were treated like any other guest!
We were also informed by our trip advisor that this place was brand new within 5 years and was a really nice hotel, which is also not true at all!
On top of our trip advisor severely lacking customer service skills and showing that she cared at all for her clients, when we arrived at the hotel our first room we got smelled like disgusting routing mold and mildew! It smelled so bad that we started feeling sick from the smell and had to ask to be transferred to another room. Instead of the hotel being accommodating and giving us a better room we got a smaller room that still had a bit of smell but not as bad which was also very disapointing!
This was just the beginning of our trip!
After being told by a restaurant that I had to wear pants and because i did not bring any i had to wear their workers pants, we went to the Japenese restaurant there 2 nights after and saw another man wearing shorts. I did not think anything of it as I saw him leave and thought he was asked to get pants on and then he came back with shorts on. Then I proceeded to ask the doorman why he was allowed and I was not and was told that because they did not have the proper size pants (my pants were also 4 sizes too big), I was told by the doormen that it was up to him to use his discretion as to who is let into the restaurant.
The worst part of all this is when we went and expressed our problems with the front desk very little was done to show their concern and make up for the lack of service, it was almost as if they did not care at all. Some of the staff was friendly but a lot of them seemed very miserable especially when asking for certain drinks that they don't like making like mojitos or long island ice teas, the drinks were also very inconsistent.
The only things that I can say that were positive are the beaches being well kept and the food being good for the most part, a lot of nights the main buffet seemed to be the same, except the last night they had a Mexican theme that was very tasty.
For what we paid it is definitely not worth the money, we would be interested in going back after they have completely finished the renovations at the riu so there is no longer any mold and mildew smell but we would not pay what we paid again as it is not worth the money. Atlantis is looking like the better option and we will be booking through another travel agency unless this is reconciled with proper compensation for the poor customer service and practically ruining our honeymoon!

Melia Nassau Beach Resort: Paradise trip!
We liked the food and the pools. The beach is absolutely beautiful!!! The bahamas is truly a beautiful island! Friendly staff. Nice hotel, could use a little updating in the rooms, but overall, very nice. Love the restaurants they are very nice and modern looking. The service was within reason. We didn't have to wait long. The buffet was really good. They had a large variety of food and opened late. Loved that there was always something to do and great entertainment during the day and night. Memories Grand Bahama: Very disappointing on so MANY levels!!!!
Where do I start. Room not ready until around 4:00 p.m. got to hotel around 10:30 am.Toilet roll holder broken, toilet paper laying on the floor, clothes line in shower broken laying bathtub. The sliding door to the plunge pool so warped that I could not open it. Huge puddle of water on the ground dripping down from the 2nd and 3rd floor balconies. The stairs to plunge pool slippery and soaking wet as were the chairs from the dripping water from above. Maid service horrible had to ask for han[... read more]d and bath towels almost every day as I was told they were not ready yet whatever that means. After many calls to front desk still waited one nite until 10:00 p.m. Rooms not vacuumed and did a really poor job cleaning the bathrooms. Two mornings no water in plunge pool. I had called customer service on the Saturday when we arrived with all my complaints and took until Tuesday for them to finally move us to another room. Had maintenance men in trying to fix door, fix broken bathroom items, pool people, maids for towels or lack there of, had to call about fridge being replenished on more than one occasion. I think I spoke to the front desk or customer service almost everyday with a complaint and on most occasions no one even answered the phone. Really not a relaxing holiday with spending all my time trying to get things fixed.
Front desk staff not helpful at all and in fact were very rude to me upon checkout. As we had purchased something in the Gift Shop a child's goggles (as my niece's goggles were taken from the pool bar while we were sitting there) and discovered they were the wrong size took them back to exchange and was told had to wait till manager came, I explained that I was leaving at 7:00 a.m. next morning, the lady asked for my room number and name and she told me that the money would be in an envelope for me in the morning when I checked out. When I enquired at check out was told no envelope for me, explained situation and was told "Too bad, can't help you", asked for manager told the whole story and he told me to wait that the store would open soon and to wait, was catching the bus at 7:10 so I told him we could not wait. Took my home address, email, phone number and still a month later have had NO reimbursement or any communication from the manager from the Memoires Grand Bahama Beach Resort.
Worst holiday ever........... needed a vacation from my vacation.

Sandals Royal Bahamian: Honeymoon cancelled
We didn't get to stay at Royal Bahamian as they closed down two weeks before we were to go there. We got to rebook at another Sandals.
Maybe we will get the chance to go there one day. I can't comment on the resort so I'm not sure how it is.

Pelican Bay: Excellent deal for the price.
This was an excellent choice for a last minute getaway. This was our fourth time to Bahamas but first time to Freeport and we loved it. The location of the hotel was great - convenient to lots of restaurants and beaches. The grounds are clean and staff are helpful. Rooms are a bit dated but clean. The pools are amazing!

Riu Palace Paradise Island: Good Value for the money
The location for this hotel is perfect right next to the Atlantis, you can view the property of the Atlantis during the day and take some nice pictures of the surrounding. You can also visit the aquarium at the Atlantis after 6p.m. for free, during the day you have to pay to see the aquarium. The food at the Riu was excellent although breakfast tend to be repetitive but good. The place could do with some renovation especially the rooms, carpet smells moldy and the furniture is a bit old, paint [... read more]chipping from the wall. The pool is big and there is only one pool but it is not crowded so there are lots of chairs at the poolside. Most people go to the beach, the beach is beautiful and it is a public beach so the locals are there trying to sell you something but if you just simply say, "no thank you" then they will leave you alone. The hotel is right on the beach, so most rooms have ocean view. The specialty restaurants were also good, my favourite was "Krystal Fusion".

Grand Isle Resort: Lovely resort. A nice slice of paradise!
Spent 1 week in early August, 2016. This was my second visit to Grand Isle Resort. Still a perfect slice of heaven. We stayed in a 2 bedroom villa which was clean, comfortable and nicely decorated. Beds were comfortable, sheets of good quality and nice fluffy towels. Housekeeping came daily and kept the villa clean and well cared for. Ate at the Palapa Grill often, menu was diverse and tasty although a little heavy on the salt. Ahhh the beach. This is the jewel in the crown of Grand Isle. Riu Palace Paradise Island: Just okay!
The beach is by far the selling feature of this hotel. The white sands and see through water is stunning. The hotel itself is in a great location merely because of its close proximity to Atlantis. We spend most of our time at Atlantus during our stay. The hotel is very dated and would benefit from major renovations. The buffet was just okay -along with the a la carte restaurants. However, I will say the lobster at the steakhouse restaurant was terrific. The staff and service were good. We found [... read more]the staff to be friendly and accommodating.

The Royal at Atlantis: Disappointed
it was very depressing to see the Bahamas from that angle. i always dreamed of going there and maybe this is why i am more disappointed because of my high expectation.
The beach tower is more a 3 stars hotel max, old, smelly. TV wasn't hooked broken glass table on the balcony. semi view of the beach. swimming pool water isn't very clean seagulls are everywhere (sure we cannot complain about it we are next to the ocean, but the dropping is in the water like it or not) I really wanted to walk on [... read more]the sandy beach and was not happy to see trash around me (not a commercial like picture ) straws, bottles, cans even cloth washed off to shore.
went on slide with husband, thank god i didn't insist on my boys to go, we both fell scratched knees and elbows got really infected by the time we got back home. the bottom of swimming pool was harsh. i should say i loved the lazy river thus maybe it is me but slides are not that much of a fun. even kids refused to go in it but they enjoyed the pool however loved their beds (i should say beds are comfortable better than Caesar's palace in Las Vegas) and of course they loved the tv shows and the free internet.
we didn't go to fancy gourmet, but we did eat out next to the pool and at the harbor village the plat is huge and it is not very expensive as other reviews mentioned however it is burgers, pizza, fast food menu that kids prefer.
we were given water bottle coupon that we used and it was enough (the receptionist was nice and gave us extra) water is drinkable (i know i did drink it and still alive :P) however it taste funny and even shower water smells a little funny.
went downtown and it was a nice trip but people in general are very rude specially females ...????... around the resort the staff is mostly friendly (specially house maid i loved them they are very nice) some are rude as well.
trip in the boat 4$ per person not a fancy boat but it did the job.
it felt more like a camping vacation for me. we did enjoy the pool as i said but bottom line we will not go Bahamas again .
airline was great .west jet. very friendly clean and nice no problem there.
transportation from and to hotel feels like you are in farmers market and you are the potato sac.
drivers are nice and we did tip them

Memories Grand Bahama: Save Yourself the Headache
Arrival: The flight leaves Toronto at 6am. We were at the airport at 3:30am. I am 5 months pregnant and my husband was ill with a fever and cold. Upon arrival , there is absolutely no welcome drinks or direction. They slap on your wrist bands on the bus, have you fill in the registration card on the bus and give you a map of the hotel. I had stitches removed a few days before traveling, the lobby was full of people with nowhere to sit. we were told the room would be ready at 3pm. We requested a[... read more]n early check in at customer service. We were directed to the reception across. We waited 45min,There we were told that it would be 'impossible, because checkout for guests are 12pm'. We were given towel cards and told to go to the beach. By 2:30, my husband was barely able to stand, I took his temperature and found that his fever was 104 degrees. We went to the reception desk to get our room, where we were told that we were given the wrong information and that rooms would be ready at 4pm. I asked for a manager, whom we waited 40min to see. He too told us there was nothing he could do. We did not get our room till around 5pm. Once we reached our room I was shocked that they had given us a room with 2 double beds. The whole trip was our babymoon. My husband went into the shower to bring his temperature down. We discovered there were NO towels in the bathroom. Not even a wash cloth. I called front desk and was told they were sending towels right away. 1hr later we still had no towels, my husband used a t-shirt to dry himself off.
Room: our room had no balcony, and nowhere to dry our wet bathing suits. The A/C in the room was loud enough to be heard outside in the hallway. We had to sleep with ear plugs. There always seemed to be something vital missing from the room, such as towels, or toilet paper. Calling service was useless, nobody ever showed up. After complaining several times we were switched to a room with a king sized bed, however the room was a handicap room. The bathroom had no bathtub and the water ran into the sink area leaving the bathroom soaked. I slipped in the middle of the night and barely caught the hand rail. The rooms are your basic cheap motel room standard. No counter in the room we were in to place mouthwash, toothpaste, toothbrush etc.
Beach: beautiful beach, however you will never find a spot on the beach. People would wake up early morning to put towels on the beach chairs so by 8am nothing was available. Beach was unkept, littered with cigarette butts, drink cups and food. By day 2 even the beach towel station ran out of towels! We actually went across the street to purchase beach towels.
Pools: the description states there are 2 pools. Reality there is a decorative column wall running in the centre of the pool, which they call a pool. The water smells like pee and there are no fun activities by the pool. Again, it's very difficult to find a spot by the pool.
Restaurants: the staff are absolutely delightful. Unfortunately they cannot do anything about the food running out and the lack of response from management. Each waiter/waitress is looking after a huge section. There is a ridiculously long line up at the one main buffet where breakfast lunch and dinner is served. Once in, be prepared to line up at least 25min at the egg station. Breakfast was EXACTLY the same every single day. I asked for non-sweet yogurt due to pregnancy diabetes, they had none. The Prop Restaurant which serves food till 2am was always out of at least 2 items on the menu every day. We lined up to get into the steak restaurant. To our surprise, steak was not on the regular but was available at an additional $28 per person. The food they did have came out cold and the portion size was for an infant. Dinner, the few times we went later in the evening to avoid the lineup, there was no food left. We ate across the street to save our time and to enjoy our vacation.
A LA Cart Restaurant: they have all but ONE single restaurant for booking a la cart. They take bookings at 11am, ppl lineup from 9am!!! My husband waited in line for 1:48min, he was 2ppl away from booking a dinner, but the announcement was made that the reservations were full. My husband asked for a voucher to return the next day to avoid the line up, he was told that he must come and wait again. We went to customer service and Veronica told us that in all the places she worked at it was the same. This is not true. At the Rui we were guaranteed 2 a la cart dinners. We just had to call from our room and the reservation was made. Even the Memories in Cuba were able to book our dinner via a simple visit to the desk (a 5 process)
Entertainment: once again, no seating available if you go 30min before a show. The shows are poor. The Rock Show was an absolute disaster. The dancers were on stage dancing and playing air guitars. No costumes nothing. The worst was when they were break dancing to Led Zeppelin. 10 min into the show people started to leave. We didn't go to anymore shows.
Customer Service: I spoke to Veronica, who could care less about the issues bought forward to her. She simply would de-minimize the situation by stating, 'all the hotels have the same issues'. My Husband and I travel 4 times out of the year, I have stayed at 2 star resorts with less issues. Save yourself the headache and don't bother with talking to anyone.
In the end, my husband and I stayed off the resort for the most part so we could enjoy our vacation. We paid for meals off site. We went to a new beach each day. The resort has nothing to offer. Staff are limited to what they are given. Management does not care. They are booking every room in the resort but cannot handle the amount of ppl. They are not equipped with the staff or food to be running at full capacity. This place is nothing like any of the Memories chain we stayed at in other places.

Riu Palace Paradise Island: Bahamas Stay
We stayed at the Riu Palace Paradise Island for 4 nights. The first I'm press ion of the hotel was okay. There was a long check in line and a leak in the ceiling right on top of it. The staff was checking people in pretty fast but they were not as friendly as I would have imagined. Our room was clean and we had a great view of the ocean. The beach at the Riu is like nothing I have ever seen. Clear water, turquoise in colour and warm but refreshing. There were lots of chair to use but not enough [... read more]umbrellas to accommodate all the guests. The pool area had a bar but the pool was not very clean. Bartenders were awesome. The food at the Riu was amazing. The buffet had a great selection and the sit down restaurants were good. We spent our nights at the Atlantis in the casino due to the fact there wasn't much else to do at the hotel. Everything seemed to close early. Overall, we found the staff to be okay. Not very friendly and at times annoyed when you made a request. The beach is this hotels' biggest selling point.

Sandals Royal Bahamian: Perfect Honeymoon
Everything at this resort is wonderful! We stayed at the Windsor with consierage. Cindy was AMAZING! She booked reservations for us and contacted all the chefs about my allergy. I have a severe allergy to gluten and I had multiple options to choose from at every single restaurant! Even the pizza place by the pool had gluten-free. All the staff were very knowledgable about gluten-free food and extremely helpful. Que at Spices went out of his way everyday to make sure I was taken care of. He made [... read more]me my own gluten-free pancakes, toast, etc. by request and he even brought me snacks to take back to our room. The food at all the restaurants was unreal. We were never disappointed. So many delicious options .... Especially the sea food.
We loved all the activities and music at the Windsor pool! The entertainment staff is amazing. We absolutely loved going over to the private island. Bring snorkel gear so you can swim with the sea turtles! It was my favourite part of the trip. Our hotel room was very clean and the bar refilled everyday. We had a photoshoot and absolutely loved the pictures (expensive but worth it). We had a perfect honeymoon and would recommend Sandles to anyone.
