Iberostar Origin Playa Alameda: Very disappointed

First time in Cuba. This resort was very disappointing. In desperate need of repair. 8 of us went, we had 4 room, 1 room was missing a light fixture (bare wires coming out of the wall). One room didn't have a bathroom door!!! No 24 hour bar! No swim up bar! The staff was nice and the entertainment team was always fun. But overall not a great resort. Won't go back.

Playa Caleta: Good but not Great

This hotel is located on a really nice beach with sufficient beach chairs and beach shelters, the pools are great however the swimup bar was closed. Good amount of bars well placed throughout resort. When the hotel advertises that there are snacks available inbetween meals expect to get ham and cheese sandwiches or pork burgers (sometimes partially raw and usually just bread and the patty). Not a very wide variety of foods to eat, but the italian restaurant had the best food. Expect one or two r [... read more]oaches in your room, poor lighting in washroom. Rooms were fair but towels were not changed everyday.

Hotel Villa Cuba: Great resort

This was my very first time ever booking an all inclusive trip. Let alone it was my first time to Cuba. I can say for sure I will definitely do it all again. The staff was great and the service was as well. On our second day at the resort my girlfriend and I asked to switch from the Villa house we were in to a hotel room itself. Not only did the staff do this free of charge but they met all our requests and gave us a third floor room overlooking the pool and ocean. The best part about this trip was the price. For the price we paid everything is worth it from the food at the resort to the restaurants as well as the service and cleanliness of the entire resort.

Melia Peninsula Varadero: melia peninsula varadero

We really enjoyed our stay at this resort...we found the food mostly good, the resort was lovely, our room was very comfortable and cool as it was quite hot out. The staff were friendly and helpful...we would go back and recommend it to our friends. The only thing was that even though we had the elite pkg, no one offered us a cold drink and towel when we arrived, it took a few days for us to receive our robes,slippers and bottle of rum but that was all very minor ...actually the one thing that  [... read more]really bothered me was that we arrived at the resort at around 12 noon, they told us check in was at 4...it wasn't until after 5 and I'm not exeggerating when I say we were the very last to be escorted to our room, it only bothered me more because I told them that the heat really makes me physically ill. So if we ever do go again we will make sure to set the arrival closer to 4 pm.

Muthu Playa Varadero: Acceptable -(just)

- Nice lobby - most reception staff friendly - 1'st room had water leaking from ceiling - after two complaints they moved us to another room but washroom lights were burnt out and took two days to fix. - Very nice pool area - friendly pool bar with hot snacks (burgers, dogs, nachos) available. - Mediocre main buffet. Breakfast ok if eggs but found precooked item not kept very warm (pancakes, sausage etc). Stuck to salads at lunch as there was a good variety of items. Not impressed with an [... read more]y meat dishes from main buffet. - Italian and especially Cuban specialty dining rooms were good. Cuban is outdoors and barbecues all the meats which is a big improvement over the buffet. - 10:00 p.m. entertainment was excellent. Good variety day to day. Dancers, singers, magic, circus acts etc. - Beautiful beach area with its own bar. Activity staff at pool and on beach to get groups into various activities if desired.

Palma Real: Very Good Stay For The Money

The room was kept clean by the cleaning lady. She was very nice and helpful. She even gave us a parting gift. The dining staff was very nice and very friendly always with a smile. The staff on the door and bar were also very nice and helpful. The food was very good for the country. There was a different choice in the evening, ham, fish, roast beef. roast pork, mutton and more. The salad was very good and the ice cream was to die for. Overall for the money it was a good stay and we would  [... read more]go back again.

Melia Las Antillas: Comfortable and well-run resort on beautiful Cuban beach.

Excellent service by kind and competent staff. Beautiful scenery. Great choice and variety of food and drinks. Reasonably clean, although wear and tear do show. Quiet rooms with good air conditioning. Took tour of Havana: the guide was professional and knowledgeable, but there was not enough time to appreciate the highlights of such a fascinating city. The trip to El Morro - a main historical attraction - was totally devoted to cigar and rum shopping, despite the last stop being at San Jose [... read more] market, in which those items could also be purchased. The price of this and other tours offered we found high.

Palma Real: 4th Visit to Palma Real, Not the Last

The hotel was overbooked upon arrival due to Reading Week. They were sending people to another hotel. We chose to stay here as we love the staff here and they are like family to us. As well, you couldn't get a chair at the beach as there were about 50 chairs and about 900 people registered at the resort. The lineups for food were longer than usual, but with the number of clients, it wasn't so bad. They have been doing upgrades and the resort is looking great! Occidental Arenas Blancas: Great Resort

Overall, this resort was a lot of fun. I would definitely recommend to a younger crowd. Good drinks, nice rooms (the bungalows), beautiful beach. Came with a few friends, and we had a great time. Very close walk to the city centre near havana club etc

Sanctuary at Grand Memories Varadero: Great service but the hotel needs some renovations.

We stayed in the Sanctuary section of the Gran Memories. I would NEVER stay at the main Gran Memories hotel but the Sanctuary part was ok. Our room was shabby (peeling, shabby furniture, leaking shower, leaking sink, leaking air conditioner, wood falling out of the bottom of the bed) but the grounds are well-kept, the staff is very nice and friendly and the beach is fantastic. The restaurants in the Sanctuary section are pretty good but I would STAY AWAY from the Gran Memories big buffet. (We're [... read more] not picky eaters but even we were turned off by that sloppy buffet.) The Sanctuary is very quiet and peaceful.

Occidental Arenas Blancas: good

The hotel was basically great. Our room was close to everything. The down side was that we had no AC for the week. I complained to the desk and Sunwing staff. Nothing was done. We had to sleep with the windows open and the bug bites were terrible I am, still treating them. The hotel was clean, pools clean and huge, beach great, lots of lounge chairs, drinks perfect, food was pretty good. Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Average resort!

We arrived after a 10 hour snow delay to warm weather. Check in was fine. Hit the beach until lunch. Meals are nothing to talk about as the food is very bland, usually cold to the touch with no quality controls put in place. Housekeeping was terrible. An example would be when my family showered that first night all of our towels were left in the tub to be replaced the next morning. When we came home the wet towels were left to hang out on the veranda over the ledge and on the chairs. Wow! [... read more] We also killed a cockroach and it remained on the floor for five days before it was swept up. Beds were small and very hard. Drinks were fine and the service was great. On a positive side, resort is beautiful, staff are friendly and a tip driven. Weather was so so with three days of cloud and one day of rain. Catamaran trip was fantastic and so was the private trip with a guide to Havana for the day. Overall, it was fun but would probable try a higher star resort next time. Thanks, Glenn

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Great resort-poor rooms

The grounds were the best part of this resort, it was large and happening. Many bars and seating throughout, great lobby, nice terrace. The rooms were poor, they needed a little finesse. One towel only per person, no face or foot towels. Got a coffee machine after requesting one, the maid gave us only one broken mug, did not supply coffee daily. Only one pillow each, had to ask for it. Had to request an iron which we got, but no ironing board. Our toilet seat was broken, toilet didnt flush pro [... read more]perly. We took the lid off and flushed it by pulling the flap inside the tank manually.it took about 3 flushes to clean the bowl. We have been to Cuba many times, and we know their standards are different, but this was way off. The rooms need improvement. The curtains were half hanging off the hooks, they had a poor visual.We are not fussy people, so we overllooked it and enjoyed our week. It wont take much to improve it, just a little effort from the maids.We only changed our beach towels once throughout the week because they never had clean ones. The beach was great, we could always find a hut. The food wan't too bad for Cuba, a little repetitive but thats ok. Better than We would not recommend this hotel to fussy people. I would go back to this resort if a deal came along. Great grounds.

Melia Peninsula Varadero: Pretty Good

A pretty nice resort for Cuba. Good selection of food, resort was clean and well kept. Pools especially the kids section was great. Beautiful beach!! Some things here and there could be changed but overall decent place.

Muthu Playa Varadero: Hotel Playa De Oro

I had a great visit at the Playa De Oro. First, my I requested a room on the second floor... had to wait but got it. Neither doors locked sliding or main But they came and fixed them right away. My room was comfortable the bed was rather hard but clean and ok. Cleaning was very good.. one bar of soap and one shampoo and bath gel. Had a secure safe for my passport and money. Food at the restaurant was ok.. average but could have more variety especially fruit. Sometimes, no bread in the morn [... read more]ing but later a surprise of new items like the parm cheese ring at the pasta area. wow. One day I saw a cochroach run through the buns!!!! Great staff and bar service. The people are awesome and friendly, happy to serve and lovely to visit with anytime of day. I loved the location, size of the complex, the beach is awesome and clean. More comfortable chairs would be great.. hard and I do not like to "towel a chair" at 7:00 am to save a seat.. some people take others towels and chairs.. not good. This resort needs a update but it is rustic in it's own way, sand paths, great beach grill.. oh yeah!!! I would send friends to this resort. Check in lady was not very nice. When you travel a long way and expect a warm welcome ... did not get it.. work on that front desk! SunWing reps were average... not really concerned about your needs. Close to bus to travel into town, bus pick up for tours good, get out on the safari,Havana tours well worth it. Watch"Papa" on Netflix. Great feel of Cuba. And, don't forget to tip and take some little gifts like toothpaste, soap, cards, pencils, crayons, paper...etc. the people appreciate it all! You must remember when you visit Cuba it is a beautiful country going through change... things are not fancy, people are lovely and need all the extras we can share. Starfish Jibacoa: Loved the community feel!

The bungalows were perfect. Spaced out, yet no unit seemed far away from the amenities. Staff were really nice, and the guests were quiet, friendly, and mostly repeats. Food was blah, but the beach was wonderful. Will most definitely go again, and again, and again.

Club Kawama: Recent vacation

Probably wouldn't go back the beach was amazing but as for the resort not clean, things falling apart and did not feel like the staff were happy. Our first room had dirty walls and the windows were painted shut. WiFi only worked maybe 10% of the time.

Melia Varadero: Did not disappoint

We spent a week at this resort. While the beach is not the nicest I have seen, the accommodations were satisfactory and the people (staff and guest) were very nice and helpful. We are already planning on returning.

Villa Tortuga: Nice Resort!

I think the hotel was nicely set up, big pool, multiple bars across the resort and everything is within a short walk. The rooms were simple but decent, nothing special but also not a problem since you don't spend much time in the room anyway, you get what you pay for. Overall, good experience and would recommend to anyone looking for a minimal cost trip.

Los Delfines: It is what it is...

We've stayed at the Delfines several times over the years. For us, it's like another home. Yes there are some issues with the hotel - not all of the rooms are "nice" or in the greatest repair. And the food...well, not great though there was some improvement this time. Breakfast is always good. And you can usually find something at lunch and dinner. If not...get out of the hotel and eat somewhere at the private restaurants that abound in Varadero and are within easy walking distance. We like [... read more] the hotel because we have made friends and connections with the staff. We like the hotel because it's downtown, and not out in the tourist zone which is at best an isolated area far removed from any Cuban realities. If you want a sparkling sanitized hotel...Delfines is not for you. If you want a happening disco and raving night life - Delfines is not for you. This is a hotel that is probably best suited to people who are at their time of life where they want somewhere relatively quiet. A hotel for people who are less worried about perfect accommodations and more interested in being able to get out and explore Cuba - outside of the usual tourist offerings. As for food: If you want gourmet experiences, go to France, not Cuba. Or, go find a good private restaurant...there are more and more around - but remember, as you do at home- you'll have to pay for good food and service.
