Dhawa Cayo Santa Maria: Nice Resort, lack of bottled water, not a spot for young people

We had a great and relaxing week at Dhawa resort, its updated, modern and very clean. The staff were amazing, especially Carlos, Kevin, Leonardo, Mickey, Yalenia, and Yadiani. They were always so accomodating and so excited to see us around the resort. However, we went as a group of 10 girls on our university graduation trip and came to realize it is a resort for older folks or couples. We tried playing music in the lobby bar but received dirty looks from the bar staff and other guests when trying to make it a bit more lively. The biggest complaint was the lack of available water. As many are aware, non-bottled water can make tourists very ill, when me and my roomate arrived we had nothing in our mini fridge and were dehydrated and parched from a long day of travelling. when we asked the front desk they said we had to speak to customer service that was not going to be there until 10 am the next morning. After that we only got 1 bottle of water a day between two people. We were dehydrated and parched. Secondly. we requested a room with 2 beds and walked in to one king size bed, it was not much of an issue for us, but we had heard from other guests that the same thing had happened to them. The maids are amazing and trustworthy, everything was very clean as well as the maintenance of the resort. The buffet was nothing special, but it wasnt terrible and the cooks are extremely friendly. The a la cartes were good, just not very big portions or a wide selection. (Marichelle - not sure how to spell it, was the best) In the lobby bar, you could be waiting 20 minutes for a drink before they look at you, so make sure u bring money to tip. THE EXCHANGE RATE FOR PESOS AT THE RESORT- PATHETIC. The snack bars pizza was very good, but on the weekends the service is very slow, as the local cubans come into the resort and practically take over. Overall, was a great resort and a great week, but if you are looking for partying and fun, this isnt the place for you.

Costa Morena: highly recommended

Only problem was the 2 hour wait at the airport in Santiago while lost luggage was dealt with before we could drive to the resort.(February 19)While waiting for the plane to take off in Toronto I saw luggage being off loaded and other bigger pieces like bicycle boxes put on..about 20 pieces of luggage were left behind.This has happened to us before at Santiago. Sunwing needs to get their act together.This reminds me to write a complaint to them!!

Iberostar Origin Playa Pilar: Amazing Beautiful Resort & Cubans

2nd time at the IPP Feb 2020 and never disappointed. I love this resort Yami, Babo made things fun with their games, personalities and warm hearts. Roiny, Adrian for good drinks, cute smiles and awesome personalities, the gardener for working so hard to keep the grounds beautiful for us & Janet for all our requests, you made everything happen as we wanted and we are so thankful. We will return Aug 2020!!

Iberostar Origin Playa Pilar: Good Resort, could be better

The hotel itself is nice, some of the rooms we were told are a little dated, but ours (a junior suite) was fine. It was clean, had a king size bed (the mattress was not the greatest but we slept ok) had a shower, tub and dual sinks. There is also a safe in the room to keep your valuables in although we have never had an issue in Cuba and have been five times. You can get a lounger on the boardwalk if you’re r there early enough.Playa Pilar is only a 1km walk away and is gorgeous. You don’t even have to walk all the way to get a great view of the ocean. The buffet is the main restaurant at the resort. The food was decent but not spectacular, the second night we were at the resort they couldn’t keep up with demand and we went away a bit hungry. They try and cater to everyone which is difficult and some people do complain about the food. We got three “a la carte” seating throughout the week. Twice we went for the Japanese which was great and fun for everyone and the other was the Mediterranean which was again good, but not spectacular. The grounds of the hotel are gorgeous and the pool is good too. The staff at the pool and beach were great. Special shout out to Miguel who made our time at the beach awesome. Front desk staff was courteous, we had a slight delay checking in and getting our room but not as bad as some that we heard of. The entertainment team was on point, the shows were pretty good and had the Cuban flare Cuba is known for. All in all it was a good trip , the only complaint we really had was we had to ask several times for our mini fridge to be restocked. Good family resort , go for the beaches, the people and the sun.

Hotel Roc Casa del Mar: Nice resort

Everything was really good we loved our stay but, one thing that i didn’t like was our room phone didn’t work and i told them they didn’t fix it n told me to complain about it to my travel agent and the wifi was limited

Paradisus Rio De Oro: Nice resort

Loved our room we had a wheelchair accessible room it was in a great location close to the buffet. There was a few things I was not happy about I had to pay 100 Canadian to rent a wheelchair because they only had 1 and it was out. All the walkways are all very rough I had a cast on so I had to literally hold my leg up because the bumping hurt my foot. The food was great, the staff was very friendly and could understand and speak English very well. If you love the beach the water in front is all coral so you need water shoes or walk down the beach a piece to swim. Great snorkeling at this beach Unfortunately I didn’t get to. There ladders into the pool are into the water like the start of the Ladder is not on dry cement one was missing completely. It was a nice resort. It is on a cliff the view was beautiful

Iberostar Coral Holguin: Iberostar Holguin Coral Level

This resort is beautiful as it is not even 2 years old yet. Pool area and service was wonderful If you are looking for rest relaxation and pretty much nothing to do this is the place Everyone over 40 and mostly couples but I went to do nothing You are 1.5 hours from Holguin and 30 minutes from Guardelavacca

Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo: Very nice Resort

This is one of the best resorts we have visited in Cuba. They have very clean rooms, efficient services and well-trained personnel. In our case we had an issue from the previous visitors in our bathroom and after we called room services the technician arrived in about 15 minutes and fixed everything. The beaches are gorges. Our special thanks to FYB manager for his time and affords he put to accommodate some of our special needs. Unlike other hotels we've been before, we could easy find a manager on premises and discuss any additional services and special needs. We spend a nice vacation here and definitely recommend this resort to our friends and family.

To start off our sunwing rep was not responsive to our phone calls or messages. The hotel staff were friendly and accommodating. The beach was nice, and the pool was well maintained. However the noise was unbearable to the level that it sounded like the band was playing in our room, sometimes till 3am... the food was bland and repetitive. I talked to several guests who are repeat customers and have been coming for 10 years or more who said they would not be returning. Melia Jardines del Rey: Nice resort

Good looking resort . Beautiful beach and grounds. Clean rooms and bathrooms . Good food especially international restaurant and Mexican . Italian restaurant not worth to try . Buffet way to busy (20 min. wait for breakfast) Shortage of cutlery and glasses for that many people . Short on staff (nearly 2000 guests in high season) Hard to find a chair and space on the beach . Loud music in the lobby at night. This is not a place for people like me who like to relax and find some quiet moments .

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: Very comfortable!

The resort was clean and grounds well kept. The beach was amazing, crystal clear water. Staff were resourceful and very friendly. Loved the daily entertainment during the day and evenings. A little bit for everyone. Loved all the daily fresh fruit at the buffet. Never a dull moment!

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Not quite as advertised

Although the beack and staff were wonderful, there were a few things about the hotel that were a bit of a let down. As another reviewer said, the hotel seems to be in decline. It was our family's time there but we talked to several other families who had been there before who said that the resort had slid downhill. The former waterfall is no longer working, the jacuzzi on the 5th floor was running but with only cold water. We had to use our same blue beack towels for the entire 10 days we were there as no replacements were available. The bath towels in the room smelled quite a bit as though there were not enough detergent used. I am not condemning the place as the food was decent enough and the people were great. I would actually rate this place as more of a 3+ stars and not a 4.

Don Lino Hotel: Always nice place and people to see there

Relaxing place to visit and will go again. Always new adventures and local areas to visit. Quaint friendly people both on and off the resort. Villages in the area are easy to get to and explore how the real Cubans live.

Everything is nice very good hotel to stay there. Very nice people who working there. Food is good. Service is good and nice. Hotel is very nice. Entertainment is nice for adults and kids. Next time see you there.

Melia Peninsula Varadero: Amazing week at a wonderful resort - Melia Penninsula, Varadero, Cuba

From the moment we entered the lobby, & were met with a cold drink ,to our departure 7 days later, we were very pleased with our resort choice. The management & staff did everything they could to make our stay as stress free & comfortable as possible. The grounds were immaculate. There was always shade & loungers. The mini bar was generously stocked every day & the buffet had great selections. We tried the Japanese, Cuban & Bistro a la cartes - made a nice change. Grand Aston Cayo Las Brujas: Wonderful vacation

All around beautiful resort, the grounds are well taken care of, and the beach was fantastic. You always hear bad things about Cuban resort food but we had zero issues here, good quality and different dishes. Staff were pleasant and accommodating. Would highly recommend.

Valentin Perla Blanca: Lovely Resort

The accommodations were clean and beds comfortable. Beach is very large and well maintained. Staff friendly and helpful. Landscaping beautiful. Buffet missing veggie variety, healthy cereal, no bacon and ran out of beer 2 days.

Roc Arenas Doradas: Great for the price!!!

We booked the resort only because our trip to Cayo Largo was abruptly cancelled so we hadn't had much time to research. Having said that we were pleasantly surprised with the beautiful surroundings and amazing beach around us. Swimming in the sand bottomed ocean was such fun wether it was still or full of waves. We rode the free catamaran through the waves and back... And chilled on the beach in the sun or under the straw umbrellas. Entertainment was always available at the beach or by the pool. [... read more] The common areas were clean and well kept, and you could tell that they were in the process of updating parts of the resort. Having said that, we were in a building that was clean but quite dated and tired looking. if you had an issue with your room, the staff was quick to come and take care of it. I understand that some of the buildings (rooms) have been modernized but I didn't get to see them. The staff was always receptive, some friendlier than others, some abit slower than others but usually willing to help. The buffet always had fresh cooked options and I was able to create a different meal daily. We went to the Italian a la carte and thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. Drinks were usually good quality, wine with dinner but they ran out of wine at the bar in the evenings, so it was Mohito time !! There were lots of families there and they seemed to be well accommodated. Not a wild party resort but a relaxing enjoyable vacation was had by most of our group of 12. Great value for $$$

Dhawa Cayo Santa Maria: Great snorkeling!

There are some really good things about the Dhawa and some not so great. Ocean view room was beautiful and there was a screen door so we could hear the ocean at night. The shower was great and we always had good pressure and lots of hot water.The fixtures and furnishings were the best we've seen in our 7 trips to Cuba. 99% of the staff were so friendly. We never used the pool, but it was clean and very large. The beach is not overly long but there were always chairs and palapas available. The walk-in snorkeling directly from the beach was really good. There were Hobie cats, paddle boats and kayaks to use. We don't partake in the animation activities, but it didn't seem like there was alot going on in the day. Some of the evening entertainment was great like the Micheal Jackson show, the International show and the Aquatic show. There was nice entertainment in the lobby area but unfortunately it is set up in the smoking area which made it hard to get a seat and also not pleasant for non-smokers. The lobby is spacious with plenty of other seating away from the smoking area though. Not sure why but this trip we experienced the most shortages of food and drink. The food was good but you were never sure if what you liked one day would be available the next. We're pretty easy going and just tried something else. Also you had to ask for a spoon which isn't a big deal, but the buffet was understaffed so often people were getting up and looking for them at the wait station.The Italian a la carte was good and the seafood a la carte just so so for me. There was always wine at the a la cartes but at the buffet and the bars it was hard to get. It was usually a white sparkling that was available. The red and white when they had it was just okay. Overall we would go to the Dhawa again, but if the quality was any less the next time it would be our last time there.
