Gran Caribe Sun Beach: Pick another Hotel

We have been to Varadero many times and stayed at different Hotels (different star ratings) and were always able to deal with the problems or food situation, but this time...NO WAY....The elevator worked half of the time...luckily we were on the 3rd floor..but imagine the people on the 8th floor!!!. The rooms and hotel are dated (but we are ok with that, we don't come here to stay in our room..(no tv remote in the room though) Most of the staff seamed uninterested in the guests and in helping th [... read more]em (a few exceptions: lifeguards at the beach and our cleaning lady...but I think that it helped that we tipped her well and gave her a bunch of stuff). We are used to mediocre food here...we get it...but this was really really bad...we survived off of toast and eggs in the morning and ended up eating out most of the time (pumpkin and green beans for breakfast...yum). Most of the time, you couldn't get a seat at the buffet, when you did, you had to go scavenging for plates, napkins (only 1 per person), bowls, cups, etc. 1 coffee maker (broken half the time, one toaster (you had to put your bread through twice), line-ups for everything and not a manager in site to see the chaos...people would run to the clean plate cart as soon as it was brought out and grabbed everything like vultures...what a show...I had never seen this before! Obviously the beach was amazing (thank god!) but we will NEVER return here and do not recommend this place to anyone, they do not seem to care about the guest at all (I had never felt that before in Cuba) some were rude (lady bartender at the pool bar). We saw tons of guest upset about the service (or lack of it)..constant screaming at the staff by guests, plates smashed. a lady was locked out of her room on the 4th floor and was feeling ill (she was having a panic attack).the cleaning lady say she couldn't let her in and told her to go downstairs....imagine that...we ended up helping her (reprogramming her card) only to find out that the lock was jammed...so we went back down to get help. They came up 25 minutes later (we took the lady to our room so she could lay down....(nobody was helping her still). They finally ended up fixing the lock (with a nail file) and she was able to enter her room almost 1 hour later....She was never seen by a medic that the hotel is suppose to have. We were told many other horror stories during our stay (no toilet seats, no hot water)..hopefully these guests will also review the hotel! Some people paid alot of money to stay here...poor them....I got a so so deal, but it was not worth it at all.....NEVER AGAIN Room Tip: Don't go, but if you already booked ask for a room with a balcony on a low enough floor (remember, the elevators don't work very often!)

Sol Varadero Beach: Not a great resort..

Won't go back to this resort...always out of toilet tissue...no diet cola for diebetics...they have a menu at the coffee bar, however don't have half of the flavours you ask for..I know the food in Cuba is different but the food at this hotel was worse than any we've had at other hotels ( this was our fourth time in Varadero)... we ate a lot in town...not much of any activities during the day...the room was clean and the maid was excellent..most of the bartenders were very pleasant....some of th [... read more]e wait staff need to smile more and be more attentive...the best part of our vacation was the weather..sunny every day...

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Beautiful resort

Lovely resort, wonderful staff, good food, great entertainment, only thing that needs to be done at this resort is to upgrade the hotel rooms Need to be upgraded. All closet doors broken needs new paint, but the rooms are kept clean

Iberostar Origin Playa Alameda: beau séjour

Premièrement lors de notre arrivée le service a été médiocre même nul. Les employés avaient l'air d'avoir hâte de retourner à la maison. Personne pour nous aider a trouver notre chambre et en plus nous étions 2 couples et nous étions pas dans le même immeuble et en plus nous avions 2 lits 3/4 au lieux de 1 lit queen. Très mauvais départ pour l'hôtel. Le lendemain matin nous sommes allés voir la réception et tout c'est arrangé. le resort quand même propre sauf les toilette [... read more]s publiques manque un peu d'amour. La bouffe passable. Chambre très propre grâce à REGLA. La plage superbe mais vraiment belle. Le service du déjeuner et diner un gros merci à ZULY sympathique, souriante et en plus elle parle français. Nos soirées de 20 à 21 heure il y avait un spectacle près du hall d'entrée et nous avions toujours le même serveur YACIEL un phénomène, parle français, toujours un sourire. Petit bémol construction tard le soir.

Melia Las Antillas: Great Resort

It is an absolutely beautiful resort. More than we expected. They were great if something was needed or tended to. The staff was great, and were super friendly. Nightly entertainment was not what we expected. It was far superior to a lot of the nightly entertainment we had seen at other resorts. There was always something to do. The specialty dinners were great, we just loved the Italian one. The rooms were spotless. Fridge was stocked everyday, with water and refreshments. Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Fantabulous

Lovely hotel .lots of choices in hotel and enjoyed experiencing various restaurants to book for dinner in evening . We visited the Japanese themed restaurant twice . We loved it . Food fantastic . All the staff at the hotel were very friendly and helpful . Night entertainment 5 star and a wonderful experience . The hotel grounds very colourful and well kept . Rooms immaculate .

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Great resort

Excellent service,very clean.Everyone friendly.Food & drinks great!The rooms were clean.The only problem we encountered was with wifi.It would be nice to have printed instructions as how to access it instead of having to bother the staff at reception.(logging on & off)

Starfish Varadero: We went for the beaches and the sunshine

And found great entertainment, live bands, jazz, salsa dancing, an amazing variety of top quality food, always places to eat open, and friendly bartenders. The room was very clean and large. Really appreciated the smiling staff who were happy to help with any request or emergency.

Paradisus Varadero: You'll want to stay longer!

The people were friendly, very helpful, shared happy stories when asked , but most of all everyone remembers your name when you interact with them. The new section was just as beautiful as the original section of the hotel and having access to all parts of the resort made daily choices fun and exciting. No matter what section you visited the employees new where you were staying and remembers your favourite things!! Hope to return to Paradisus once again - soon. Punta Peninsula Varadero: Staff amazing

2nd time here first was 3 years ago. Looking a little weathered but everywhere we saw renovations on the go. Would say it is a 3 star in current state. Advertised as a 4 star. The staff at main lobby bar and most servers at buffet worked hard to please everyone.

Grand Memories Varadero: Fantastic Place with Minor Room for Improvement

The resort in general is fantastic, the employees great as well. However, the public bathrooms were in poor maintenance. No soap, no towels, toilets out of service for the entire 7 days we were there.

Resonance Blu Varadero: Great Resort

They accommodated very well. The grounds were nice, the staff was great, the drinks were good. The room and food was okay. The resort is very big. There were no major issues at this resort everything was satisfactory.

Melia Peninsula Varadero: Terrific Resort!

We had a fantastic time at the Melia Peninsula Varadero! I accompanied my Mum (91 years young) as she really wanted to go on a holiday. Everything and everyone couldn't have been more helpful to making that happen for her! It is a very friendly wheelchair, environment so we could get around the whole resort for her to see, and do. Our room was wheelchair friendly and spacious. All of the staff were so friendly, always with bright smiles, and remembering her needs and wants, whether be it [... read more] housekeeping, wait staff, the cooks and front lobby staff. We had a great choice of restaurants as well as the buffet with fresh cooked food and lots of fruit. Everywhere was greenery, and flowers. The entertainment, shows, and activities were plentiful and we even got my mum in the pool several times! The 1959 pink convertible Caddy the staff organized, for us to take her on a two hour tour was fantastic and the icing on the cake, along with other tours available. You couldn't want a friendlier place to visit, with such happy people. I would highly recommend this resort!

Los Delfines: Saskatoon

Breads were not fresh Desserts were not good except ice cream. All week same desserts. Salads were not good. Fresh food was good but lots of time it was not fresh. Papaya was great. Were disappointed about food first room we had was dirty then we moved to different room it was clean but beds were very bad. Not comfortable at all. Staff was friendly.

Playa Vista Azul: Amazing Resort

This is a great resort and recommend it to everyone. It's clean, beautiful, great food, friendly staff. Lots of amenities and activities for all ages. The 2 beach locations prevents over crowding on the beach which is great if you head their later in the day.

Paradisus Varadero: Very Nice

This was my first time at a resort. It was very nice. I am a senior and I wanted to relax and be peaceful. I was. The beaches were so beautiful. My friend and I enjoyed the walks. We met some lovely people from all over the world. The staff was very friendly and helpful too.

Hotel Los Cactus: Relaxing Family Vacation

9 of us travelled to Breezes Veradero(Hotel Los Cactus) 2 of us from Edmonton Alberta and 7 from Ontario. we arrived around 3 am. The front desk was expecting us and even left us our beach towels. So nice and thoughtful. They also extended out room for small fee when we left as out Shuttle was at 12:30 AM and check out id typically noon. you can exchange money at the front desk - we went almost daily as we needed small bills often. best to go early as everyone does the same thing and they r [... read more]un out quickly. The resort is a smaller resort which we enjoy. I stayed in room 229 a garden Suite. 229 was in a nice location not too far from the lobby or pool and far enough from the disco. WE had an amazing maid named Teresa. She kept it nice and clean. we did have some ants coming from the floor drain in the bathroom but It wasn't a big deal. If possible I would recommend to add more drawer space we only had on little chest off 3 drawers, Poor hubby had to live out of his suitcase. The fridge kept things cool not cold but honestly we only used it to store a few items and id not drink and of the beverages. Teresa left us water everyday and extra if we wanted it. The grounds - we saw several people working on the grounds daily and they were well kept. They were repainting building working on tile work etc. the hotel is dated but they do their best to try and keep it looking nice. The pool is very cold so we tended to go in it in the late afternoon to cool of. The caulking was starting to come apart but one of the employees told us that they are planning on redoing it coming up. There were several hot tubs which are very nice and they drain and clean them nightly! Thank you. THE BEACH was the best part in my opinion. BEAUTIFUL clear water and soft sand. We went snorkeling for 20 CUC per person right from the beach it is well worth it. Food- food was ok. We knew it was not going to be phenomenal. It was better than I was expecting. Egg/Omelet guy is fantastic. At night in the same location you can get chicken, pork, etc. depending on what they had. We honestly just got sick of the buffet by about day 2. Keep in mind we are big foodies . The resort is not far from Varadero so we travelled into town on a few occasions. Had a fantastic surf and turn at EL RANCHERO. Great souvenir shopping. Do not reply on the airport> I wanted to shop duty free for coffee etc but early in the AM they couldn't process CC.

Melia Peninsula Varadero: Great Resort

Everything at the resort was good, food, room, grounds, facilities and beach. Had a few minor hick-ups that were not a big deal and were taken care of in Cuba time. The staff were great. Wouldn't hesitate to go back.

Los Delfines: Basic resort - no frills

When we first arrived I felt like crying. I knew that our friends would be coming to the same resort and arriving two hours after we did. (Arriving from a different location). I felt horrible about the resort that I had picked. We were initially put into the small old rooms by the ocean. After 3 nights we were able to get better rooms by the pool. These rooms were much nicer. I would say that the food was border-line horrible. But we managed to not go hungry. The hot part of the buffet w [... read more]as very small!! We went to the a-la-carte one night and the food was amazing!!! We were so thankful for a good meal. At the end of the week - I think that I would be safe to say that we all had a good week in spite of things. However, I do not have a desire to go back. What I did find very interesting was that lots of people return to this hotel over and over again. So - apparently lost of people like this place. Some pros are that the pool is quiet ( the loud music is at the beach). There is a snack bar by the pool that always served pizza - which was good. Two days they also had French fries. This was a treat!! And for breakfast and lunch you could enjoy your meal while looking over the ocean. The place needs some maintenance!!! And a new paint job. This place has huge potential! It could be a wonderful place with just a little TLC.

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: As good as it gets

It's a nice 18+ resort. Though the gender demographic is more about 50+. The beach is nice not too busy. Good restaurants. Things that needs improvement: 1. We were getting only two bath towels a day. I always had to call room service for more. The shampoos and other shower supplies never got refreshed. Luckily we had our own stuff. 2. The irony is you walk by the restaurants at dinner time and see there is room
