Overall: decent stay. Takes 2 hours to get to the resort from the airport. Flying out of Santa Clara is brutal. The airport is tiny.
The beach was lovely, although a little shelly/rocky until you get into the water. Lots of fish so on good weather days you can see them swimming.
The beach food and drink bar have the very best service! Amazing people and we ate lunch their every single day. The only place on the resort that you get quick service. There are free catamaran rides which are a l[... read more]ot of fun. Saw some wild dolphins.
Some wifi was included which is nice. For a 7 day trip we received 7 hrs on day 1, 6 hrs on day 2, 5 hrs on day 3 etc.
The rooms look lovely, beds were comfortable and the lighting is great. A/C was not working the entire trip (other people we spoke to had the same problem), the toilet seat was very stained, and the shower smelled musty.
The pools outside the rooms look pretty but they are very cold as they are not heated and don’t receive much sun.
The a la carte restaurants were terrible. Fuego was the only decent one. Bana and Vente were terrible service and inedible food in some instances. The buffet was edible with various options for freshly made food such as fried rice, fish and meats. Breakfast options were good too, fresh made pancakes, omelettes, eggs etc. The pool food bar was okay.. the food was good but the service was extremely slow. Also had an instance of drinking from a wine glass and noticing the rim was chipped in two places and almost cut my lip.
One huge red flag is that this resort seems to be at 30-40% capacity. It is HUGE, huge buildings and many of them but very empty and still very slow service. They also offered a Valentines special to locals so the day before we arrived over 1000 local Cubans checked in. They were very noisy, rude and it was quite uncomfortable. This resort attracts the “affluent†local crowd, something to be cautious of.
The staff were hit and miss. A handful were very happy to help and serve but there were many who were rude or did not seem excited to help. Have never experienced this before at an all inclusive.
The entertainment team was okay. They seemed happy but there was no clear schedule for the day provided to us so it was hard to know when things where happening and where. Evening entertainment was good, but not much happens after that. The nightlife is not great.
Overall definitely did not feel like a 5 star all inclusive experience. The beach, beach bar food and drinks were great though. We spent every day at the beach.

Playa Costa Verde: Fantastic resort
We thoroughly enjoyed our vacation. The staff are friendly, the food was enjoyable, and the main thing I noticed was the resort was very clean.
I would recommend this resort to other people, and will most likely return there the next time I travel to Cuba

Resonance Blu Varadero: Awesome time!
I had a lovely time at this resort with my friends! Beach was beautiful, 2 pools and swim up bars, nice selection of drinks. A good nightlife disco and entertainment. Go to the Italian al carte for good pizza. Rooms had some small issues but nothing major (friends tv didn’t work) but who watches tv on vacation anyways! Would go back!
I thought that the service was excellent and the accomodation itself was what I expected it to be The beach is absolutely magnificent and I have been to Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Mexico and Florida east coast and west coast and Cayo Coco is the nicest beach of all the beaches The pool was very nice and the swim up bar was tended by David who is not only a great bartender but so nice The buffet and a la carte were fine A lot of people say that the food in Cuba is not good but I had no issues I[... read more] would recommend bringing byour own crushed chili peppers for pasta or hot sauce as food is not spicy The 24 hour a day snack bar serves alcohol and burgers fries hotdogs pizzas and all are good The Cappuccinos that they make are so deliciousI will be returning to this resort for certain looking at booking in November or December and stayed February 16th to February 23rd All around great value for the money and now I love Cuba !

Playa Cayo Santa Maria: Not impressed
Rooms were moldy and dirty. There was hardly any fruit and they didn’t have much variety at all. We were referred to this resort since it was kid friendly which it really isn’t. They have a kid area but I only saw it open once, the rest it was locked up and not kept well. The pool was amazing and the beach is stunning but even the service wasn’t great. They seemed rather annoyed that you would ask them for something even with a tip being given. I know this resort is given 4.7 but it should[... read more] be a 3. If you have young children I wouldn’t choose this resort.

Melia Las Americas: Amazing vacation!
Our stay wa amazing. I loved this resort, the service we received was so great. We had beautiful rooms in the bungalows but asked to be closer to the main hotel for mobility reasons and were accommodated right away. We never had a bad meal and loved the 2 a la carte restaurants we went to, our favorite was the grill. Pools are amazing, the one near the bungalow was closed for renovations and only opened up or last day there but the were never any issues with crowding at the other 2 poo[... read more]ls, likely due to the fabulous long, deep, beautiful sandy beach at this resort with tons of chairs and shade. Golf course was beautiful, greens can be a little rough but totally worth it when you're teeing off with the ocean right there. Already planning to go back to this hotel. Note to sunwing, they misplaced my luggage but as I told the sunwing rep. Stuff happens and it's all about how it's handled and they are great about it.

Gran Muthu Cayo Santa Maria: Great experience for family vacation
It was our first experience of all inclusive vacation and we absolutely enjoyed it!
Starting from the beginning - travel agent answered on all our questions very detailed and promptly. Upon arrival we were taken care of by the local agent and were brought to the hotel. Same on the way back - very good coordination and organization.
We were traveling with our daughter of 10 years old, got a room with three beds, where we just moved two beds together, so there you go: king size bed)) Room is ni[... read more]ce and clean, we had a girl who cleaned it daily. Now... we did leave her tips (nut bar from Costco and stuff like toothbrush, stick deodorant, little shampoo from Dollarama... pretty cheap for us) - room was perfectly clean! She even organized our shoes...
In general - stuff is very friendly, not bugging you unless you look at them, so they know you need something. Also, we did leave tips to our favourite waitress and waiters, they were really nice.
Food is really good. Please do not expect pizza to be good there or burgers to be served! It's Cuba..... they are not used to this food, they only make it to satisfy Canadian customers))). Rice is amazing! Try it! The guy making rice with pork and chicken on open fire is amazing. His food was sooo good.
Fruits, veggies, salad, meat - everything was awesome.
Minus for someone maybe - no orange juice in the way we are used here in Canada..., but there is a lot of freshly done pineapple juice. We loved it.
Coffee in the lobby is awesome!
Beach and ocean is super good - white sand, warm water. It's a dream))
It's tricky a bit to change beach towels, because the guy who issues them doesn't seem to be on his place every day, but was only a challenge for us on the first day, when we left our towels on the beach. Then we just kept them overnight until the next day and just exchange it on our way to the beach, when someone was there. To all fairness - i think out of our 7 days there, we saw towel guy 5 times...
Will agree with some of the reviews: limited supply, like bar on the beach might not have pina colada for you, but it will be available at another bar besides the pool)))
When you go, pack a big thermos mug))), It can be filled with good stuff at any bar lol)))
Overall, great experience, will definitely go again and will recommend to friends.

Playa Vista Azul: Family vacation...disappointing stay at hotel
This was our 5th trip to Cuba, our first to Varadero, likely our last.
We are not picky eaters, we've never had problems finding something to eat at other resorts. However, this was not the case here. The buffet was horrible. Not many options and the food was always cold. For the most part, service in the buffet restaurant was quite slow. There were times we did not even receive water at breakfast or lunch.
Beach:
Left side of the resort - the beach is cramped. The beach area is narro[... read more]w and there few quite a few huts. The right side beach - a further walk, but much more comfortable to hang out at.
Pros:
- Ariel at the Beach Restaurant - He is wonderful. He works hard to keep everyone happy.
- always found chairs at beach and pool
- spacious rooms
- friendly staff
Cons:
-only 2 options for lunch - main buffet or beach buffet
- snack bar was a joke. Burgers & hotdogs only. Service was extremely slow. It shouldn't take 20 minutes to get a burger
- Mike's Coffee - hit and miss - sometimes coffee was great, other times not even drinkable
- most bathrooms had issues, either doors that didn't lock or were not cleaned often
- bathroom in hotel room could be more private. Glass wall in shower - not ideal for kids who are sharing a room
There are areas of the hotel that are in need of maintenance.
Side note - the airport was a complete disaster when we left. We arrived 3 hours prior to our departure. Arrived at 12:10 for a 3:10 flight. We finally made it through security at 2:30 and had to go straight to the gate as the plane was already boarding. Flight was delayed leaving because there were so many passengers still waiting to get through immigration.
Like I previously said, we will not return to this hotel or recommend it to friends. We would much prefer to go back to Holguin or Cayo Coco.

Dhawa Cayo Santa Maria: Nice resort but NO drinking water!!! Also not a resort for young people!
The resort and beach were beautiful! The ocean water was crystal clear and the beach had beautiful white sand. The beach was a small, only sharing the waterfront with one other resort which was nice if you are looking for a quieter relaxing vacation.
If you are a young person however this might not be the place for you. The resort had mostly older folks and there was practically no nightlife. I went with a large group of girls so we still had a great time, however it was definitely an older [... read more]crowd at this resort.
This resort only gave you ONE bottle of water per room (that had to be shared between two people) for the ENTIRE DAY! And sometimes you wouldn't get your new bottle for the day until 4-6pm depending on when they came around to the rooms. If you wanted another bottle it was IMPOSSIBLE to get it. I would go to customer service to ask for water AND would even call the front desk to request water, they would say they are sending a bottle but it would never come.To say I was dehydrated is an understatement. You are not supposed to drink un-bottled water in Cuba, so knowing this the resort should provide access to water bottles for guests!

Hotel Roc Casa del Mar: Beautiful resort
Really nice room and bathroom, dining room was great meal was not always great. Swimming pool was awesome. It was far from the airport two hours on the bus. The ocean was amazing. It’s a big resort, we walk a lots . The personals was very nice. The foodmenu of the excursion wasn’t exactly the same. It was disappointing salmon instead of lobster.

Melia Marina Varadero: Good but not great
Firstly, I will say that the hotel was OK for the price we paid. That said, there were many basics lacking, and I don’t know if they were a result of Cuba embargoes or the hotel management. For example, the buffet never had enough dishes, cutlery, fruit or even water to serve the guests. The staff seem to be in a mad scramble to find clean cups to bring guests. Water was very hard to come by, and if you wanted to be served a drink at the buffet - good luck! There were also never enough clean t[... read more]owels - either at the pool or even in room service.
The staff were friendly enough, but was clear they did not have the tools needed to do their job. Food was decent (for Cuba), but lacking in variety. (Buffet has the same offerings every day for lunch AND dinner).
I would recommend only if you are looking for an affordable getaway with great beach... but not if looking for an exceptional experience.

Los Delfines: goood as usual
the hotel was the same as the past years, It is the 8th time we bokk at this place. I understand that the laundry company has problem and the towel where tuff to get, but it hapened previously.
This year is a bad year for Cuba and we knew about it before leaving.
But at the hotel there alway was something at the buffet that we where able to eat as we wanted.
The advantage of the Los Delphines is that it is right in the city and there are restaurant all around that we can eat very well for v[... read more]ary cheap.
The ONLY DISADVANTAGE was the return flight which took place in an old Russian or Czechoslovakian plane with the seat broken down, very uncomfortable for a four hour flight.

Playa Costa Verde: Cuba's cozy corner
We keep going back to PCV because of the fact that the staff at PCV really works as a team. Everyone, from lobby staff to gardeners, is doing their very best to make us feel right at home. They work hard at keeping all their guests happy.
The buildings are dated, but kept very clean and quite comfortable. The pool area and resort grounds are very well kept. The buffet offers a wonderful variety of food and how the food is prepared; its so important to remember that they can only work with what [... read more]is available to them; they give us the best that they have and we have never gone hungry during any of our stays at PCV. Bread was amazing during our stay Feb 2020. PCV is located in such a way that there are many opportunities to explore the surrounding area/places. We rented scooters, rented a car, and really explored cuban countryside. It is so safe; we go anywhere without any worries and we just love the cuban hospitality which we meet every time both on as well as off the resort. PCV is an amazing place to be; it draws us back time and time again.

This hotel was very nice. It was clean for the most part, and the staff was very nice and friendly. Had a lot of fun. Good for families. However, getting bottled water was an issue. The staff were not very willing to give water, only got one 1L bottle of water for two people to share. Playa Pesquero: Planning return visit!
I have nothing negative to say about this location, resort and the staff! Beginning to end was pure bliss! Easy check in, rooms clean and comfortable, always hot water for showers and plenty of water pressure. Loved the grounds, the beach, the pool area! The Boulevard was a fun little strip! Enjoyed the various a la carte restaurants for evening meals! Loved the lobby area and music in the evenings. Will be returning February 2021!

Melia Varadero: Good.
Hotel staff friendly, beautiful beach, fun entertainers. Dwayne Wade would give this a 9/10 but i would give it a 9.3 at least. On an additional note, bring ketchup packs and hot sauce with you and your own sunblock unless you are trying to pay $20 for a bottle of it.
I had a great time at this resort! My friends and I spent our week sitting on the pier by the water and absolutely loved it. The food was good for Cuba, and the Japanese restaurant was amazing! Our only complaint was the washrooms. All resort washrooms were dirty almost all the time and never had any toilet paper. We were quite upset that we had to pee in the ocean to avoid the uncleanliness of the resort washrooms. Overall a good trip though.
