Riu Bambu: Ok resort - 1st time in punta cana so hard to compare

The hotel was clean and the staff were very nice and hard-working . Beach was absolutely beautiful. Lots of chairs and choice for pools as well. Some features that made it just ok for me were that for a family of 4 I found room to be pretty tight, beds were twins. Also our room was a long walk from pools and restaurants. My husband and I did get sick and think it was something we ate. Food was plentiful but I am picky ..and I did not like too many things. Got tired of buffet and seeing same th [... read more]ings all day. Italian and steak house were good.first time in Dominican but have been to Mexico several times and Bahamas. Have stayed at 5stars in Mexico so this didn't compare to that for hotel but beach was way nicer and weather was hot hot!

Bahia Principe Explore Esmeralda: Excellent vacation!

Beautiful resort, great staff, great food, rooms a bit dated but still very clean, beautiful beach and pools - no complaints whatsoever other than a bit of rain but rain is better than snow - would go back in a heartbeat!!

Royalton CHIC Punta Cana: Awesome Resort

We loved the Chic hotel, only had a few down falls but would not stop us from booking there again. We found the spa to be overly expensive, room service food not that great and the restaurant food was great but the service was a little slow. The beach was beautiful the hotel was small but very nice.The staff was awesome, rooms near the pool is very noisy, so if looking for a nap good luck. The back rooms are nice and quiet. Awesome resort will likely book there again.

Occidental Caribe: Great Resort

The resort was great, people were nice. The rooms were very outdated and could be freshened up a bit. Loved that all the building were connected. Buffet food could be better but restaurant food was amazing.

Surprise Escapes: Beautiful sandy beach

Resort small but very beautiful,,, grounds are stunning very clean, rooms are wells taking care of. Staff is very professional and kind.... Food was good.. My only complaint would be the contamination of food,,, lots off sharing utensils at buffet, example salad bar offered many different types of salads from seafood food salad to potatoes salad and only one utensils to pick up salads. Wyndham Alltra Punta Cana: Nice resort

Rooms could use alittle upgrade. A couple of days had no towels in bathroom. More servers around the pool area. Lack of mats(loungers) in the pool. More huts at the beach for shade. Loved the grill and idea of no reservations for restaurants. Workers very friendly.

Bahia Principe Escape Ambar: Great resort !!

This resort was well kept, all the staff were super friendly and always trying to make the best out of your stay, there was different activities going on each day. I Definitely recommend this resort and will be returning

Occidental Caribe: Not bad

People are nice but the rooms are in need of some updates, food was ok. We often waited for drinks even though we tipped. We tipped everyone including the maids but we never got enough towels for the 4 of us. The towel bar by the pool required several trips a day to actually get towels as they were often out of them

Catalonia Royal Bavaro: An older resort and it shows

We changed rooms twice the night we arrived, and again the first day. The plumbing in the first two rooms were unacceptable and the second room also had a vile odour that made breathing very difficult. The third move was ok but certainly nothing we were led to believe we were paying for. The paint and plaster were pealing, the finish on the bathroom mirrors was coming off. The second room had dried up old toothpaste hanging under the shelf and toilet seats were offset and toilet didn't stop runn [... read more]ing. There were jacuzzis in each room that was nice but the bathrobes looked like something you would find in a hospital to cover your gown. That being said, the restaurants were good, the Rodeo Steak House was exceptional. The staff were ALL very nice and generally spoke decent English.

Paradisus Palma Real Golf and Spa Resort: Wonderful experience!

Very clean all around. Food satisfied many different tastes. Beach was beautiful. Staff support was fantastic. Had a brief issue with the room that we had reserved, however it was resolved by the next day. It was appreciated.

Grand Sirenis Tropical Suites: Overall Good Resort

The pools were very nice and the beach was phenomenal. Staff very friendly. Their were enough food options that nobody went without and our kids tend to be picky. We weren't overly impressed with the room (Junior Tropical Suite) as the bathroom was small. We would go back again though.

Bahia Principe Explore Punta Cana: Good Resort

Had a good time here. I found that the positives were that the rooms were nice and there were no problems with the maid service. The food at the buffets was good as well, had no problem getting things that I liked. Had 3 a la cartes, Japanese, Italian, and Garden Grill. Food was good at all 3, but the service at the Garden Grill was not great. The grounds were beautiful and well kept and the trolley system was great. Never had to wait more than 5 minutes and they ran late into the night and very [... read more] early in the morning. Another positive was that we were checked in on our bus from the airport and we were taken directly to our rooms when we got there, saved us a lot of time. A couple of negatives were that the beach was very crowded and the sand fleas at the beach and mosquitos when we were outside at the lobbies were horrendous. Most people in our group were covered in bites and we saw many others on the resort covered in bites. Not sure if they do any spraying here, but they should consider it for sure.

Paradisus Palma Real Golf and Spa Resort: Beautiful resort

Lovely newer resort with fabulous staff. Food was amazing. Only criticism is no hot water for the shower in our room. The tub was fine but not the shower. Our room kept having lots of power outages. Beach could have been kept a little cleaner as well. Lots of seaweed. But overall a great place.

Sunscape Coco Punta Cana: Loved the place

Beautiful place. Very impressed with the entire management. All the amenities you could ask for, from well equipped rooms, pool, beach, games, activities, tours, entertainment, restaurants, and shops. Watching the students from the sidelines made for great entertainment.

Bahia Principe Explore Punta Cana: Just okay resort

We had recently stayed at the GBP Punta Cana resort in the DR March 18th to the 25th 2017. The check in was actually on the bus to the resort so no line ups at the desk so this was great. The resort is very large but easy to navigate. The food was good with a great variety to choose from in the buffets and the Japanese was great. The room service was a little slow and at all times of the day! The beach space for our resort was very crowded and hard to walk around all the many loungers. The staf [... read more]f were cordial but the bar tenders and the pool staff were down right rude! The lobby bars were way to busy to get a drink unless you were tipping big or a pretty girl which I was neither! There was a lack of entertainment in the lobby's and common areas but the constant pool music was going if that was your hang out. Almost forgot the massive number of insect bites everyone received at night in the lobby's. They need some more insect control there for sure. The mini bar was always out of beer, 2 per day and they were of the mini type! We paid one of the guys who drove our bags to the room $10 us to get us some more as he said he could and he never showed up again( Edgar). I would give this resort 2.5 out of 5 stars. If you want a huge resort that's very busy and impersonal this is for you. I think we will opt for a smaller resort with a more personal touch were they will remember your the customer. We don't need the royal treatment but I think it's impossible to service that many people effectively and without being overwhelm. Thank you.

Occidental Punta Cana: the good and the terrible

Start with the good: the beach is absolutely beautiful. There is very little shade though and lots of vendors every day 3 pools. Loved them all... loungers in the pools and shade from cabanas. Pool bar was great too. Food was good. Definitely make sure you go to the all night pizza bar and also grab some late night tacos. The rooms are all right. Ask for a renovated room - I only heard complaints from anyone who was in the older rooms. Service - a la carte services were great besides the Me [... read more]xican restaurant. When we arrived we were told the hotel was overbooked and there was no room left, so we were sent to another resort around 3am. Eventually we could return to Occidental. The front desk were argumentative ... though it also seems most people were there to complain about rooms or problems not being fixed. Also watch your beach towels. Housekeeping took ours one night and we nearly had to pay $20 a towel because the people at the towel exchange didn't believe us. I really liked the resort, but when service was bad it was downright terrible and nearly ruined the entire vacation.

Bahia Principe Explore Punta Cana: Fantastic resort

The grounds were beautifully manicured and the staff were available and friendly. The room had a king size bed with nice decor and a spa-like bathroom. The pools were alot of fun with bouncey castles for the kids and the beach fabulous!

Sunscape Coco Punta Cana: Great Vacation!

Staff are great (Front Desk, Bartenders, Waiters, Entertainers (Spagetti & Mini Me), to cleaning staff. I loved all food served at the buffet. My boyfriend did not like the buffet but he is a picky eater. Food at the restaurants were great, especially Rodizio (even my boyfriend liked them all). Hotel room was great with a garden view and in a good building (building #3 which is central to everything) - we reserved a standard room and received a King Size bed. We had a fan and air condit [... read more]ioning to keep us cool. Only draw back was you only get 2 mini cans of beer a day. Had to go off the resort to purchase beer in bottles (was cheaper off the resort). Beach was clean and always busy. Entertainment daily from 4pm to 10:30pm. Some older couples found the resort was really loud because it was the tail end of March break but we were ok with that. We had to deal with some peddlers of gifts but they were good when you said no. Also had to deal with 1.5 hour sales pitch with Be Live Consultants about purchasing their vacation plan for all their resorts. Word of advise just don't go upstairs, tell the staff you've been there a few days then they will leave you alone. Resort quieted down by the time we left. Will definitely be looking at booking this resort again next year.

Occidental Punta Cana: Pros and Cons Occidental Punta Cana

Easy check in. Was put in room 10117, unit 10. This was not a renovated unit. As soon as we entered the room I knew this wasn't what we had paid for. First off, the bureau drawers were broken, couldn't put our clothes in there, I was afraid when we pulled drawers out they would fall on us. I mentioned it to the concierge and he sent someone from housekeeping, who just slammed the drawers shut, didn't solve the problem. Rust in the bath tub and mold on the ceiling, looked like the ceiling w [... read more]as going to fall down. Wood on patio was rotten. Had a meeting with Hugo, the Transat rep, the next morning. He told us Air Transat had a contract with the hotel to put all Air Transat clients in the units that were renovated 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26. We as well as several other people voiced our concerns over the units we were given. Hugo said he was going to speak to the hotel and have our rooms changed and to meet back at the lobby in the afternoon. Needless to say, rooms weren't changed that day, wasted time hanging around the lobby watching Hugo argue with hotel staff. Told to meet again the next day. More wasted time watching Hugo argue, still no room change. What was really upsetting was they were giving the new check ins the renovated rooms. Finally on Monday afternoon, we were told to pack up and bring our bags to the lobby as we were getting a new room. Well wouldn't you know the room wasn't ready, so had to give luggage to bell hop and waste another hour waiting for room. At last room was ready, and have to tell you it was beautiful and exactly what we should have been given in the first place. Poor Hugo had at least 10 or 15 clients that wanted their rooms changed. Lots and lots of complaints. So much negative energy and time wasted on something that was supposed to be rightfully ours. Not a good way to spend our vacations Kudos to Hugo for keeping his cool and managing to get people their new rooms. Hotel is beautiful, grounds are immaculate, staff is friendly, couldn't ask for a better beach. Would I stay here again, Definitely, but would refuse to stay in a unit that wasn't renovated.
