Room nice pool great weather great service great food not so hot great location had no issues beach was beautiful bar very well stocked they were running out of food daily had to hit buffet early to get any half decent food service very good was able to pay 8 bucks to keep room for extra time which was nice it was my first time to Cuba will I go back absolutely not

Paradisus Rio De Oro: Everything is great at Paradisus Rio De Oro!

Highlights include: - Great beach with lots of shaded places to sit. Lots of fish to see while snorkeling. There is always staff at the beech which is very nice. It also nice to have the wash room close to the beech and beverage bar handy. - The pool is nice too with swim up bar. Water was warm and lots of daily entertainment at the pool: volleyball, dancing, etc. - Musicians were amazing! I really liked the musician that played various numbers on clarinet, flute, and piccolo. I also  [... read more]liked the solo singers, and all the bands. One band played music almost all day on Cuba day on the beach. What a treat! A highlight too was the opera singers on the first night. - Everyone is friendly there and always want to please you. - Love the morning coffee in the lounge. The Buffet is very good with lots of choices, and all our restaurant meals were also very good. - Nothing at all negative to say.

Resonance Blu Varadero: Memories to be made, but not in the rooms!

Overall had a great time and made some wonderful memories with friends! I did come across many issues with the resort itself though. When we checked in as a group in 9, they had my group on the opposite end of the resort with ocean views while they put me away from them with no view. I was disappointed to have to go to the front and fight to be close to my friends. When I got into my new room the sheets were discusting! Blood stains, hair and dirt stains! The rooms were very old and each one of our rooms had something broken: The toilet, the mirror, tv, door locks or bed in each of the rooms. Not a very clean resort I would say. I would recommend diamond club if going! If you aren’t there are massive lines for the buffet. I found the food to be as expected for cuba, not amazing but edible. Our server Jamie was fantastic! The sweetest and most attentive server full of energy and joy. As for the rest of the servers they were terrible! Completely unnatentive and took 20 minutes just for water. We got up half the time to get coffees since they were no where to be found. I expected high quality and friendly service from the rest of the staff. I found the memories in Santa Maria, Cuba to be much friendlier and very clean. The washrooms were half the time clean and always out of toilet paper so be sure to bring a roll. The beaches were incredible and stunning! Very good entertainment and fun activities at the resort. Overall had a excellent time and a nice vacation with my group, but the resort itself I won’t return to.

Melia Marina Varadero: Horrified Experience

I don’t even know where to begin with this review. No towels, no cups, raw chicken served to us, service was horrible, staff were so rude, the beach wasn’t maintained, hotel managers avoided you like the plague, wifi only in the lobby which you need to pay for. Honestly everything that could have went wrong went wrong. Please do not go here. I’ve never been so dissatisfied with a vacation. By day two all 5 of us wanted to come home.

Melia Jardines del Rey: Very great experience

The hotel rooms were extremely clean and the air conditioning was perfect for sleeping at night. Food selection was very big and good for the standards. Pool area and all the grounds were great places to be

Barcelo Solymar: Amazing resort-NOT ANY MORE!

Went to this hotel 5years ago, and was great. Decided to go again this year in February and I made BIG mistake. Hotel is worn out, rooms need to be upgraded,old beds, old mattresses, tiles failing from walls in washrooms, rusted buth tabs. Hallways in the hotel had bad odor stinks like washrooms. Food for breakfast no complain, but to get omelet or scrambled egs wait is 15 min. in line. Lunch and diner they served the same food or what ever is left over from lunch they put back for dinner.They w [... read more]ore doing surveys every week from the guest in the hotel and I thin they got very negative feedback. The only good thing for this is hotel is the beach and the location, center of Varadero close to all the bars, restaurants, clubs, stores and fleamrket, all waking distance.The hotel definitely is not 4 stars as advertised on some web sites.

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Great stay

Well kept, clean, friendly, safe and good food to choose from. Nice excursions to choose from. Front staff where always very helpful and comprehensive. We did had to exercise patients as line ups for food, coffee, wifi etc.

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Beautiful grounds & beach

The resort grounds are lovely and so is the beach. However, service ranged from the very good, such as that of our hotel maid, to the very bad. For example, we complained 3 times to get water to our room, reassured each time, but getting water only after the third complaint. Food was hit and miss. For example I ordered a beef loin steak at the Bsmboo restaurant that was tougher than shoe leather. I couldn't cut it with a knife and was impossible to chew. The same applies to the buffet. Generall [... read more]y poor food the first week of our stay and significantly better food the second week. Wine shortages at specialty restaurants. Imagine, red wine available at the Japanese restaurant, with excellent service and food, but not at the Italian one, with mediocre service and unappetizing food to boot. The air conditioning in our room was so bad that clothes in our closet were damp to the touch. We essentially got cold air but no moisture removal. In general, we found many staff motivated, friendly and accommodating, while others were just putting in time.

Melia Jardines del Rey: Good value for your money

Main lobby needs some TLC, water fountains not working, not enough light. Grounds are beautiful but ground keepers need to be more aware of garbage left around. They walk by cups or cans and don’t pick up. I did a lot of picking up. It’s a beautiful place but can be better. The place is definitely under staffed but most of them do go out of their way to help you.

Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo: Great Vacation

Very friendly staff in all areas. The food was above average with good variety. Entertainment was very good. Different to find 10 pin bowling at the nearby shopping area. Rooms were large and nicely furnished, the bathroom was spacious. Only drawbacks was the loss of water on tice during our two week stay.

Starfish Jibacoa: "Nice 2nd. visit"

The bungalo,s are great, guiet , but my 1st night had a swarm of bees in my room as there is a dead tree about 10 feet from the front door and had bees living in it, I left the outside and inside light on after supper and when I returned and opened the door ,saw about 75 bees around the inside light and many dead on the floor. I called the front desk and very promptly sent someone to spray, but had to sit outside for two hours with door,window open and fan going to get the smell out.After that d [... read more]id not leave any lights on and put a towell under door at night. The grounds are well kept and beautiful and the beach is lovely with new beach chairs over last year. The snorkleing in great, but the water was churned up with the winds. Went on the catamaran in Varadero one day, always a thrill for me. The food was not the best, but you won,t starve, as I found breakfast the best. Went twice to the restaurant up the road for lobster, very good. There are a lot of people who come back every year. Also I found that there were more Locals this time, so may not go again around Valentine.s day. A nice time and the weather for 9 days , beautifull and warm not a drop of rain.

Melia Jardines del Rey: Nice area, but.....................!

After reading so many good reviews beforehand about this resort, and having stayed at other Melia resorts in the past in Cuba, we were needless to say, excited about going to reputedly “the largest resort in the Caribbean”. Our trouble started as soon as we tried to check in. We waited almost 5 hours before a room was ready for us. Admittedly, the room was quite nice and clean. However, the last guest had seen fit to lock the safe and we, of course, didn’t have the combination. A locksm [... read more]ith finally got it opened for us. So it was off to get something to eat. What a zoo!! People pushing and shoving, trying to get something they wanted. And the noise! Unbelievable!! And there sure wasn’t much variety to choose from. Anyway, the food, or lack thereof, was a constant all week. We had 4 a la carte meals, and only one was any good. And there were items on the menu that they just didn’t have. The International was the best meal we had all week. And it was hot. No matter what we seemed to pick at the buffet, it was always cold. Drinks! Another issue. I don’t drink alcohol, but my choice for most of the weekdays was water, tonic water, or a form of lemonade that I swear was watered down Kool Aid. There were two days when they had a diet type Cola available but that was that. Anyway, “back at the room” the toilet didn’t flush properly. When I removed the tank cover I noticed that hardly any water was going into the tank. So every time after that when the toilet was flushed I had to fill the tank with the flexible phone shower next to the toilet. But there was a bigger problem. The trap or S-bend in the toilet had practically no water in it, and gas from the septic tank was seeping up from the toilet. So I would always make sure this had adequate water in it. The problem was that the maid would come in when we were away, and she would flush the toilet during the cleaning process. So we almost always came back to a room smelling like a sewer. And there were many areas throughout the resort where we smelled this gas. Even when we were on the beach, if the breeze was right. This takes me to the beach. One section is really smooth sand, the other is a lot of broken shells and what appeared to be coral. Anyway, good luck getting a seat at the nice section. And if you walk up to the other section, you pay 2 pesos each, (approx. $3.00 each) for a chair. Some guy up there on this section owns these chairs, so you have to pay. We decided after a few days to spend our time around the pools instead. And they are beautiful and very, very clean. And tons of chairs. One morning we decided to have breakfast at one of the snack bars, rather than the buffet. Someone we met told us you could get a good but simple breakfast there. So off we went. Well, it was simple alright!! All they had was eggs. Nothing else, just eggs, and they offered us an omelet. Nothing in it, just eggs! And no coffee either, just watermelon juice. My wife asked for ketchup. No ketchup, but they did have mustard. Anyway, I could go on and on, but I won’t. This was not anything like what we had read prior to going there. There is obviously a lot, and I emphasize a lot, of shortages right now in Cuba. I read an article that said their supply of oil has been cut from 90,000 barrels a drag to 40,000 barrels a day. Embargo’s from the US and consequently Venezuela. And this explains why the sea doos and other motorized craft weren’t running. People who had paid for these were given their money back. But, you know what? With all the shortages and power outages the Cuban people are experiencing, they remain friendly and kind beyond reproach. And it this quality that will take me back to Cuba again. Just not to this resort.

Valentin Perla Blanca: Valentin Perla Blanca

The hotel does not merit more than a 3 1/2 star. The grounds are not well maintained- broken glass, lack of visibility at night from insufficient lighting throughout complex walkways. Our room was clean and Alberto kept it very clean. Beach towel service was only available once a week to have it changed. Food is mediocre given the embargo and sanctions that are upon Cuba- lack of variety , items not available . Hygiene products were lacking in the bathrooms throughout the complex. A lot of expected tipping throughout the complex for services that were to be considered all inclusive. The beach is magnificent

Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo: Great Resort!

Grand Muthu was a fantastic Cuban resort! We were a group of 10 people and have been to Cayo Coco 7 times to other resorts. This was by far the best one we have stayed at. The grounds had nice landscaping and were very clean and well maintained. The rooms were modern and spacious and were cleaned daily. The staff were all so accommodating even when we needed additional help one of the managers Rafael went above and beyond to help us out. The beach was fantastic and lots of chairs and shade were near the beach bar. Past that there was a very wide open empty beach. Overall, this resort and staff were great.

Melia Marina Varadero: Room for improvement

As this was our first trip to Cuba, the service at the resort needed work and the proximity and accessibility to the Beach was disappointing. The condo was wonderful and the service improved as the week progressed; however, they had a significant amount of trainees and often times language barriers.

Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo: Don’t waste your money

First off, Cuban people are really nice, the beach was really nice. As for the resort...filthy chairs in all dining areas, food is really bad, same options daily. Lineups at buffets are ridiculous as is waiting for clean cutlery, plates or service. Understaffed and overworked I think is the issue. Won’t return and do not recommend this resort. I’m a firm believer that you get what you pay for but $1500.00 for this resort is a joke.

Brisas Sierra Mar: Needs work...

The hotel needs work, there are definite maintenance issues. Service overall is good. Sadly, my largest compliant would be the large amount of Cuban nationals that enter the hotel now. They have little too no respect or regard for anyone! They act terribly to be honest . Many of us (visitors) have been mistreated, and left disappointed.The staff seem to have little to no control over this. I do not recommend booking at high holiday times eg : christmas, st valentine.

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Welcome to Cuba!

I’m giving it 41/2 stars , Cuba rating. I found staff friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean, but the high humidity takes its toll, but I didn’t come to hang out in my room! Poolside clean, beaches beautiful! Food......when in Cuba, eat like a Cuban and you won’t be disappointed! Lots of fruit and veggies, but not as flavourful as we are used to. Havana worth the long day to explore the countries history.( we hired a local, and was very personal and informative!) we went to explore Cuba, the culture, history, food and had a great experience! Melia Peninsula Varadero: Still Good 2nd Time

2nd time at Melia Pennisula Resort (first visit 2017) and the hotel still was as good as the first time. There were some noticeable improvements to the grounds. Beach was beautiful - always able to find a lounge chair. Pool was good. Pool bar food wasn't as good as the first time however. Service overall was really good - people were very friendly. The evening entertainment was ok. A la carte restaurants were good - enjoyed the Japanese one the most. Buffets were good.

Playa Pesquero: Loved it all!!!!! Best in Cuba !

This large resort does not have a feel of a large resort, but all the amenities were great for our entire family! Our two teenagers were never bored (Which gives this place 5 stars alone!!!) We loved going to the beach or the pool and never going without a beach chair, there were always tons. The snorkeling at the beach was amazing. The rooms were spacious and very clean. All the washrooms were clean and always supplied. the drinks were AWESOME!!! such variety and quality compare to other Cuban resorts we have been to. We will be going back to Playa Pesquero next year for sure!
