Good Value

The hotel was very Covid lax until someone tested positive then it was mask and sanitizer everyone panicking. Food decent but hotel not very clean. Staff are friendly One maid stole my sons epi pen I guess it’s expensive to obtain. Wish they would of asked I would of gave it to them.

Melia Peninsula review

Was very happy with the resort the people that work there are so kind and helpful. The resort property is clean and it’s beautiful to walk around. But when it comes to the food and drinks we weren’t to happy about the selection. They keep running out of different foods and you ask any they didn’t have anymore. The drinks were the same, they had only their brand of liquor. The second week was getting better for food and drinks. But overall I would go back to the resort. Don't get the beach towel

We very much enjoyed the resort until checkout when we had suddenly to pay for a beach towel that was stolen from my son when he went to the pool for 5 minutes. His glasses were even on the towel. We were wondering who would steal the towel within the resort. It was very upsetting as we were not even told how much we had to pay before accepting the towels and that they seem to get stolen frequently. I would have given a good rating, but the way I was treated at the end nearly ruined my vacation.

I loved it

Everything was super clean, well kept, staff was always busy working and very friendly all the time. No complaints at all. Food was fine for me always something good, pool was a little too cold that’s all I could say. Management and all the staff were really great, made our vacation wonderful

Pretty awesome

Just a great resort for kids. The staff is wonderful. The food, delicious by Cuban standards. What a beach! The pool is great as well. The only comment would be the bathroom designs which leaked water. And the elevators. It's hard to keep stainless steel looking pristine. Olive oil helps and they need a coat of paint and potted palms. Other than that. It was my best vacation yet. I relaxed, finally, my boy had a ball. He is golden and happy.

Nice resort

Small resort situated on a beautiful sandy beach, Melia Peninsula is a good place to spend a week long vacation. The beach has plenty of chairs and protection from the sun, we did not have to reserve a place in the morning. There is one pool for adults, but the music can be loud during activities. Nice installations for small kids with their own pool and center. We found the food ok but repetitive. But with the situation in Cuba, we were expecting this. Great place for Kids and Adults

Overall a good quality resort for Cuba. We have been to Cuba to various areas over a dozen times, so we had a reasonable expectation. The beach in front of this resort is great, lots of beach for napping/tanning/playing, the Ocean has a nice shallow walk in to the Sandbar for the kids, and the bar and water sports are close by. Our kids had a blast there, my only disappointment was the bar there did not have beer, so I had to walk to the lobby bar... The rooms were nice and clean. We had the family suite with the bunk beds, and contrary to what i've read, they are plenty sturdy and safe for the kids to sleep on. The bathrooms are upgraded and everything seemed to work in the room. The staff were mostly helpful and provided good service, there are always the few that seem to not want to work so hard, which is frustrating. We were there 1's week of March 2020 which is not their full buys season yet, so they are not fully staffed either, so sometimes it seemed they were a bit under staffed. The food was about what we've expected as far as quality and basic options. Lately there have been shortages on certain supplies and unfortunately for us, they had no cheese so we could not have Pizza at the pool grill :(:( that was probably the biggest disappointment. Also we had no buns for the burgers for a couple days either, so the kids were a bit disappointed with not many options of what to eat. But we always found something to eat and never went hungry, Cubans are very good at improvising with what they have. Our trip to Varadero was great, Yes they pack the Bus that goes there ($5 each, kids 6 and under free) but it's part of the experience! Just be aware that the horse and buggy rides are priced per person! they will say $10 per hour and will not mention the per person fact until you arrive at the destination. And when they want to take you to the private restaurant, while it is lovely, it is very overpriced.. But overall we had a great week, great weather and i would still recommend this resort.

New experience

The Melia peninsula was a mixed bag of good and bad. I could easily tell they spend a lot of money and effort on the grounds and booze, but nobody who worked there seemed to understand English or had a welcoming attitude. The bank refused to cash in my American money which I purposefully brought as I mistakenly thought it was welcomed form of currency. There was no Cuban music or much entertainment the whole week. The restaurants are just more food from the buffet which was bland or salty. They  [... read more]had very good French fries and americano and espresso.They kept the room clean and tidy everyday but one time I thought they just reused the same bedding. They were supposed to refill the room bar but if you didn’t take a certain thing they would take it away and not replace it. This was annoying as I wanted to enjoy the cans of beer but at a later time. The wifi was only available in the lobby and there were limited working plugs. I missed my rep meeting after the arrival because it was scheduled for the morning but my arrival wasn’t until 3am so I slept in. As such I missed a lot of pertinent information that would have made my stay better and the rep wasn’t available much after that. When I asked to go on an excursion, I wanted reassurance that I wouldn’t be left alone in the city and was assured I wouldn’t be, which didn’t turn out to be true. Later when I brought it up to the rep she passed the blame on to the tour guide and basically made fun of me for complaining saying nothing bad happened to me. I didn’t like the smoking everywhere on the beach and outdoors or the constant loud dance music. Also everyone seemed to want a tip. Other than all that, the heat was amazing and the ocean was great. It was interesting to see Havana. I probably wouldn’t go again though.

Enjoyable trip

Grounds were beautiful and room was very clean and spacious Pool was clean as well. Food was mediocre but could always find something that we liked The beach was small and crowded. Possibly because of the tide but we did not use the beach for that reason

Beautiful Resort

The Resort was beautiful, clean and nicely kept. Not sure if was because of the season but there was lack of staff. At the beginning of our stay, there were not many waitresses/waiters in the main buffet rooms. Also rooms were made up very late into the day. But in the last 3 days, we noticed an increase of staff and faster service. The team in the kids club were great. My kids had a blast. The rooms were clean, pools, washrooms were all clean. Also, even though a lot of people like the extra $$ the best things to bring for gifts for those special staff who treat you extra special are soaps, toothpaste, deodorants, creams, nuts, chips, candies etc. As per my discussions with the people there, they do not get good quality products and are very grateful for them. The food was not the greatest and remained the same every day. There was just a lack of spices, seasonings -- salt. Bring some mayonnaise, ketchup and hot sauce and you won't complain. The beach was amazing, water was great!! The entertainment was not the best, as in other islands in the Caribbean. But it didn't matter too much. My overall experience was great and I would definitely go back.

Amazing week at a wonderful resort - Melia Penninsula, Varadero, Cuba

From the moment we entered the lobby, & were met with a cold drink ,to our departure 7 days later, we were very pleased with our resort choice. The management & staff did everything they could to make our stay as stress free & comfortable as possible. The grounds were immaculate. There was always shade & loungers. The mini bar was generously stocked every day & the buffet had great selections. We tried the Japanese, Cuban & Bistro a la cartes - made a nice change. Still Good 2nd Time

2nd time at Melia Pennisula Resort (first visit 2017) and the hotel still was as good as the first time. There were some noticeable improvements to the grounds. Beach was beautiful - always able to find a lounge chair. Pool was good. Pool bar food wasn't as good as the first time however. Service overall was really good - people were very friendly. The evening entertainment was ok. A la carte restaurants were good - enjoyed the Japanese one the most. Buffets were good.

Wonderful resort

Really enjoyed this resort. It was smaller than others we have been to but there was always plenty of space and seating in public areas.Room was nice, best shower I've seen in Cuba so far. Love the entertainment at the lobby in the evenings. Went to the spa twice for a massage which was wonderful. The food was typical Cuba, this hotel was no better but no worse than others we're stayed at. Service was very good. I would recommend this hotel.

Will definitely be returning

Just returned from an amazing week at Melissa Peninsula Varadero. Upon arrival we were greeted by very friendly staff who were very fast and efficient. The resort is beautiful. Meticulously landscaped, and very clean. The buffet while not the biggest selection, was always good and service was great. We did the Italian and Japanese ala carte’s both were outstanding. The lobby bar although busy at times was always staffed by very friendly hardworking bartenders and waitresses. The nightly entertainment was okay but would have liked a bit more variety. Our housekeeper Alicia(room 1431) was just outstanding, keeping our room spotless and always surprising us with her towel creations. Thank you so much Alicia it was a real pleasure talking with you. I would definitely recommend this resort. Thanks to all the staff and management for making our stay so memorable. We will definitely be returning. Below average

The resort itself was okay, food was Cuba typical. Our beach towels were stolen from the pool area and staff didn't do anything about it. We ended up having to pay for towels which most like report staff took.

Melia peninsula was a pleasant surprise.

The room was spacious and clean. The cleaning staff were friendly and helpful. Not all the staff at the desk were helpful some were outstanding and made up for those who were less helpful. We actually ate at theJaponese restaurant twice because we enjoyed it so much. Of course the beach is beyond reproach. In all I give it a 4+ rating.

Nice resort

Average hotel. Rooms average, clean. Restaurants very good. The buffet was good but meals were repetitious. Beach and pool were beautiful and clean. The drinks at the outside bars were not very good, but hotel drinks were very tastey. Was good place to stay for the value

Fantastic resort

The staff were all fantastic, the grounds well cared for and the beach amazing. Not overcrowded easy to get around the resort. We felt as though our trip was important to them. Exceeded my expectations for Cuba by far. The food was not my favorite in the Caribbean, but we always found something to eat we certainly did not go hungry. I went to Cuba saying it would be a one time only trip, I would definitely return.

Fantastic time at the Melia Peninsula Varadero

Great place, especially our waitress at the buffet. Maria was always attentive and so sweet. Water was plentiful despite other online reviews. Rooms were good. Food was plentiful. Check in /lobby desk was frustrating, they didn't understand some of the questions and requests as well as other staff but overall we didn't have too much trouble. Customer service office and phone office were only sporadically staffed which was tested our patience but being on holidays we tried to take it all  [... read more]in stride and plan ahead. Very nice resort for the price.

Lovely Family Friendly Resort

This was my first vacation to Cuba & I was very pleased with the resort. Our room was spacious & spotlessly clean. Our maid surprised us each day with her creativity in turning our blankets/towels into swans. The food was quite good but some of the meat dishes weren’t properly cooked. We had no problem with the chicken & fish. There was a good selection of side dishes. Service was a bit slow at the buffet and bar but all staff were very friendly & pleasant.
