We went over new years. The hotel staff were great for the most part but seemed like they were understaffed at times. We have never experienced a 5* were you had to wear wrist bands, check your towels out and back in as well as book our restraints in advance. The food was tasteless which was a huge disappointment. Asking for any kind of hot sauce seemed to be so far fetched. Would not stay at this chain again.

Wonderful way to escape the Christmas craziness
I traveled here alone and met my friends staying in the neighbouring block (Tulum) the following day of my stay. I felt safe, well fed, and so relaxed on day 1. That didn't change for the next six days. The gym facilities and equipment are expansive and clean, the transport between resorts from Tulum to Coba to Sian Ka'an are all so accessible, the a la carte restaurants are beautiful and they accommodated all of my requests for pescatarian meals.
My room at Akumal was beautiful. The staff pr[... read more]ovided housekeeping and re stocking daily.
The bartenders were friendly and fast. A note: some margaritas were better than others, and I was curious why I never met a woman bartender. If you find a bartender you like, stick with them for consistency of your drinks.
The beaches were gorgeous. If you stay at akumal you can walk along the beach all the way to the neighbouring resort. Some sections are quieter than others, and some lounge chair blocks are reserved for Sian Ka'an or Privilege Club guests. If you don't want to be near the entertainment or music in the day time, seeking out a quieter beach isn't difficult at all.
The adults only section of Akumal near bar 66 and the infinity pool got a bit busy during my time there, it seemed to be a bit of a tourist attraction for guests, but that is easily remedied by going wherever else your heart desires on the massive property.
Had a blast, would go back. Thanks to my travel rep and to the staff. Besos!

Wonderful resort...
The entire resort was very well kept clean. The public bathrooms were always super clean . The food was amazing. We ate the buffet almost the entire time. Always fresh and tasty. The entertainment staff were such a pleasure. Gretel and Hannia were our favs. The rooms were pretty decent. We needed to move rooms because of noisy neighbours and the front staff were amazing to deal with. I would highly recommend this resort to anyone. All employees here were very pleasant. Such friendly people.

Great resort
We spent a family vacation with our 3 y.o. daughter in August 2024. We loved the resort! The territory is huge, and you can still use the amenities of other parts of this Bahia Principe resort while staying in one of them. The entertainment team did a wonderful job, and we loved the evening shows. The restaurants were amazing! The food was always tasty, and the service was very decent. We also liked that the staff does their job really well no matter whether you're giving them tips or no, which [... read more]makes you want to tip them. However, the beach is not great along the whole shore occupied by the hotel - the part near Tulum is better. Also, the rooms in Tulum have undergone pretty recent renovations; however, in Akumal they are pretty large and are kept clean and well-maintained.

Overall a nice place to holiday
My husband and I went to the resort for our honeymoon. After many attempts to let the staff know it was our honeymoon, we were underwhelmed Food and buffets were great, the restaurant booking process was not ideal- a la carte can be booked in advance with no limitations, so getting in to the highly rated restaurants was virtually impossible. Room service was a life saver. The beach was decent, lots of seaweed on adult only side. The room was nice and spacious, we had purchased the ocean view ro[... read more]om and it was beautiful. The sliding door was not tracking properly though and so a lot of warm wind was whistling in at all times of the day/night making noises and not allowing the room to cool down properly.
We made the best of it.

Great holiday
We had a nice holiday, but it’s not a 5 star hotel.
Pros;
Best thing about this hotel was the Food selection.
Restaurants al a cart were great, but make sure to book ahead.
The adults only beach was great it always had lots of chairs available any time of the day.
People are very friendly and attentive.
Con’s:
We upgraded to ocean front villa 47 and room needs a huge overhaul.
You could not get a chair at the main pool if you didn’t reserve early enough.
At 6 am all the s[... read more]haded loungers were taken.
The water at the pool was way too warm. Not cooling at all.
Wish there were staff available bring drinks around pool and beach.

Fantastic experience!
The Akumal was wonderful! We stayed in one of the new swim-up rooms and the pool was fantastic. We were very impressed by the layout of the resort, the food at the buffet, and the a la carte restaurants. There was also lots of wildlife- it was very exciting! The staff was very friendly and helpful. I would definitely reccommend!

Huge Resort with lots of variety for food!
We had an amazing week at Bahia Principe Akumal. Its our first time travelling with our 20 month old so we had alot of concerns and requests to make our stay more convenient. We requested to be on the ground level as I found out doing my research that there are no elevators so it would be really hard to get up and down with stroller and everything else. It was really thoughtful they did place us somewhere convenient and close to the station where u take the shuttle. We were in 6501 ocean front ,[... read more] which was upgraded for free due to re-scheduling because of the hurricane.
Everyone is really nice and friendly in the hotel. The kids club people were really awesome, they let us drop in with our baby just to hang around because she is still too little to be dropped off. Our servers Eric, Jesus for breakfast and Jose and G for lunch and for dinner Hector.
They were all very attentive and had a high chair ready for us soon as we walked in.
Our hotel room was dated but it was very well maintained. Our mini bar is always fully stocked. I requested to have lots of water so i can make a bottle for my daughter every night and also our room was kept clean and with fresh towels daily.
The resort is huge so studying the map is necesarry because the signs are fairly small and easily missed. Especially since you will have access to all other resorts such as coba, tulum and sian kan adults only. My baby loved the waterpark in tulum. There are no kids waterpark in akumal but there are plenty of swimming areas with shallow ends.
The beach is amazing! But dont forget your water shoes. Glad i did my research and got my family aqua shoes because oh boyy the rocks are not fun. There were kids and people getting cuts on their toes and some lady even got a really bad one, it got infected. Otherwise, the ocean is beautiful, its got a man made barrier so you dont get the huge waves. It was the highlight for me! As im a beach person. Be careful with the sand my daughter had a lot of sand flea bites by sitting on it for too long. I should have made her wear a body suit. On that note, the bug bites! There are lots and also mosquitos at night attacking our feet while we hang out in the lobby as well as theatres. Bring lots of good bug spray. Its really really warm this time of the year i got me one those tiny electric fans from amazon. They were life savers.
The food in general was amazing! Lots and lots of variety. I ate fish and seafood everyday. They were so fresh here. The meats are hit and miss sometimes it tends to be too dry but over all flavours were still really good. Lots of fresh fruits and desserts daily and the best iced coffee at the coffee shop! Breakfast has so much variety.

Great Experience!
Bahia Principe Luxury Akumal is a great resort! Stay at one, play at four and having visited the other three, it was clear we made the right choice. Deluxe rooms are the most updated and closer to the Adult only pool and daytime restaurant. Staff were fantastic and met our needs. Food was excellent, with 17 a la cartes. We enjoyed the 6 we booked...we used the app and you must book them the day you arrive, once you get your room # as fill fast.
Cons: There isn't much A/C other than your roo[... read more]m, which was perfectly set. Some restaurants are outside so no A/C obviously and sports bar at neither hotel has A/C, which proved uncomfortable in the evening, when so humid!
Exit visa - did not ask us to pay anything. Advised by our Air Transat Rep that they are removing that in a few weeks to best not to pay....fortunately we didn't do before we left.

Room for improvement
Hotel looks exactly like pictures. Is it a 5 stars hotel? More like a 3 stars. When we first arrived (hour drive from the cancun airport) they welcomed us with champagne glasses. We then told them we asked for a bigger room via email before we arrived, on the email they told us we were in the new renovated villas. But at the desk, they told us it's not available and we have villa 53 (old). We said please we have a daughter that has a breathing condition and we'd like for things to be clean and s[... read more]pacious. Then they said for the renovated villas it will be a charge of US$1,300 EXTRA. which is weird because they just said the room was not available. Anyway, we did not upgrade. Our room was small, first floor, everyone was passing by our balcony, so no privacy. It was also dirty, the walls in the bathroom was not clean (there were drops of things all over) and we got but by fire ants in the room. They sent the exterminator 3 days later though.
We got approached by the privileged club and they told us they will treat us better if we sign up with them and that's how they treat people that book through an agency. They obviously told that to the wrong person because I right away said if they think we will come back after this hahaha.
Food was okay, got food poisoning from the buffet, but a la carte restaurants were nice most of them.
I would give 5 stars for the entertainment ans the kids club 100% those people are amazing and they were the ones that made our trip bearable! Props to all the kids club employee for loving what they're doing and creating the best memories for our kids : Josseline, Eduardo, Ingrid, rebeca, abigail and cuauhtemoc were amaziiiiinnggg

Excellent resort
We stayed at adults section, villa 83. we loved the location, 2 min to restaurant for breakfast and lunch or to the infinite pool and the beach. The beach was clean and the ocean full of fish. Ideal place for snorkeling.
The resort is big and very clean. We had access to all restaurants and beaches at Bahia Tulum, Coba and Sian Ka'an
The room was clean, it needs a little refreshment but overall was ok.
The food was also ok, nothing out of the ordinary, not a lot of variety.

Bahia Pincipe Akumal
Edilzar and his team sevices from restaurant Katok was phenomenal ! We always been welcome as we were home! Always willing to help with any request we may have during meals... And also had great services from his Manager Julian... Overall experience during the stay was really great except for some minor caveat...
1- Our first room shower was not working good (which is surprising for an deluxe hotel like this one). We have reported the situation on our arrival Friday and up to Tuesday it was[... read more] still not fixed. They finally moved us to a different room and everything was good there.
2- We subscribe to the premium high speed internet, and although it went well for the first device, it been quite a nightmare to add the second device and needed help from a onsite tech to add it. But frankly, we have not see much difference compare to the normal free internet access as for the speed and stability. Is the tech really add us to the premium plan?? They should be improvement to integrate the Internet Premium subscriptions and possibility adding extra device with Bahia App to make it easier for guests. Also, it looks like when selecting Free access, there is no easy way to to subscribe to the Premium plan.
3- 2 out of the 7 evening show entertainment were chargeable if you want to attend.
As for other positives aspects, we notice there is been renovation improvement for some of a la carte and buffet restaurants and rooms (although we were in the older model room). It also seems they increase the team to remove the Sea Weeds that become very problematic in the region and therefor we could enjoy to go in sea water with very minimal weeds.
As a side note Tip, you can pre-checking your reservation 10 days in advance via the app and when you do you may want to reserve your a la carte restaurants as soon as possible via the app as the most popular one getting filled very rapidly. Do not wait to reserve when at the resorts to reserve because you may have very limited selections.
Thank you
Thank you

Our 2nd stay here.
We went last yr in Apr and this Apr again, stayed in block 53 this time and it was exactly the same as the other block we stayed in last year. Room was clean and to our liking. we did have an issue with the door latch that got fixed. the grounds are very nice pools look amazing but we enjoy the beach time so we spent most of our out door time there. the restaurant were all great and the food was top notch at all the restaurants. you get to book all your meals 10 days before you get there on an a[... read more]pp which was a great thing. The shows were great we didn't care for 2 out of the 7 shows we saw. I cant stay enough about the staff all were great regardless of what their job was.

Very enjoyable resort!
We (adult family) very much enjoyed our stay at this resort! It is a vast resort, making it a great, safe place to explore. There was quite a bit of walking, but the landscaping was beautiful, and there was lots of wildlife and birds to observe. We also took the electric trolley carts to explore the sister resorts attached to this resort. The buffet had lots of delicious food to try with various themes. We didn't even try the a la carte restaurants as there was so much to try. The staff were exc[... read more]ellent and went out of their way, including Ricardo at check-in, who diligently ensured that our rooms were all together when the travel agent who booked us forgot to note that we were a family and we were put in units very far apart. The beach and pools were great, and the staff served drinks everywhere. My only complaint might be the hard mattress - but the rest of my family loved them and slept soundly. Also, there was the smell of sewer gas in some places, which might have something to do with the mangrove forest throughout the resort, but it was never that bad. Also, the surf was rough this time of year, which also meant there was always a breeze to help you keep cool. The location was near Tulum, with many cenotes, snorkelling lagoons and natural places to explore, but it is a long 2-hour drive from Cancun airport. I would definitely consider returning. The shows were good, especially the Fiesta over at the Hacienda, and the prices of souvenirs were cheaper than the airport and the archeological sites like Tulum and Chichen Itza.

Fabulous Resort
We were very happy with all aspects of what the resort had to offer. Food, room, staff, services and entertainment were fabulous. We met wonderful people and there was so much to do. The beach area was very clean and well kept.
