Premium upgrade is worth it

We were spoiled in the Premium side. Just ask for a room upstairs to reduce the risks of little ants. Walk in closet. Outdoor shower. Butler. Gold cart to drive us. Flowers and plants like a garden to visit.

The hotel is dated..needs upgraded. The resort grounds are very nice..The pool excellent !!. Per Cuba..supplies such as every day necessities are short in supply...not great on the food or alcohol. The worst is the staff not replenishing our bottled water..and after asking sooo many times..we went 3 days before the kind pool bartender give us his bottled water . Not a resort we will return to.As for Sunwing..very disappointed charging people who went for the Superior upgrades..knowing these ite [... read more]ms are not available ...Customers should be refunded..as of course the 3 hour delay in our flight home.. Awesome Resort

I was so impressed with this Resort. All of the staff was amazing, and friendly and they went out of their way to ensure I had everything I needed. The grounds were impeccable, rooms were cleaned every day, food was good, I didn't go hungry. I was traveling alone and felt very safe. I will be returning to this resort.

Fabulous resort

The Hotel is gorgeous the people can't do ienough for you it's beautifully kept and we had a wonderful time Everyone is so friendly the best place in Cuba!! Highly recommend this place to all!! My second time and will go again.

Aging Resort

The positive is the beach and staff. Rooms are old, bedding is old, pool needs upkeep, food is not colourful or fresh. Powdered eggs and milk. Canadian dollars are often refused as bank will not take bills that have folds, fade or small defects! Staff constantly approaching guests to exchange loonies and toonies. No wine, water, pop or vodka. Definitely not a 4.5 anymore! Will not return.

Getting old

3rd visit for us and we noticed that it’s looking a little run down. Rooms are in desperate need of a refresh. Food was not great unless you LOVE chicken. Staff are still very friendly . Will try a different resort next time. Joyce & Lorne

Very nice resort. Clean

Clean rooms, public areas. Pool nice but needs more cleaning. Many shortages of food items, no fresh eggs, no butter, no jams, no syrups. Wines and liquor were hit and miss from day to day. Staff friendly

Cuba is not like it used to be.

Short of staff, short of a lot of the foods we came to enjoy, short of mixers for drinks and sometimes no wine. We realize the problems Cuba is having but we pay good money for our trip and feel we are not getting full value.

Beautiful resort

Loved the staff, amenities, beach. Food shortages in place so don’t expect everything available every day. Consider bringing clothing and medicines for the locals. Would definitely return to this resort.

Amazing resort

The resort was massive! So much walking! Our experience was absolutely amazing! The first night we arrived at night, the room we were given was a bit far from the beach and it had a strong humidity smell; we told them about it and they accommodated us and switched our room to an absolutely great room closer to the beach and pool since we had 2 kids. The cleaning staff was just great, the friendliness of the staff in the restaurants, the entertainment staff was so great, we didn’t miss a show and the kids entertainment was so good the kids couldn’t wait for 8:30 every night to go to the show! They even have a daycare for the kids and the staff is absolutely wonderful! (via and Thalia!) my kids didn’t want to leave when I came to pick them up the 2 days they went! The doctors on site is wonderful, and the entire medical staff at the resort… the only thing I have is that the water kind of smelled and one day there was no bottled water - and that’s no fault of the resort, and the food isn’t really the best but thats a “Cuba” thing too and no fault of the resort… I cannot wait to go back! Totally recommend it!

Fantastic Resort and amazing trip

This resort was fantastic, very clean, great staff always willing to help and make your stay the best possible. The beach was fantastic, awesome watersports always available for your pleasure. The room was very nice and cleaned everyday with fresh supplies, our cleaning staff were amazing! I wish that there would have been maybe more choices in the buffet, more fruit and veggies but there was still lots to choose from and it was pretty good so we never went hungry. The a la carte restaurants were wonderful, we had lobster twice nice grilled steak and chicken with salads so no complaints there for us, we really enjoyed the meals. Where we experienced the worse shortages was the lack of bottled water use at most of the bars. The filtered water they were using had a smell and taste that we did not like at all so we adjusted and enjoyed drinks that were made with soda or beers and wine, We just stayed away from drinks made with the filtered water like their juices . The coffee bar was amazing! we enjoyed all different types of coffees and we especially enjoyed the ice coffees (Yum). Overall for the state this country is in and the shortages they are experiencing this resort did a fantastic job of stick handling these concerns and made the best of it. I have no complaints and would return to this resort for sure. I would give this resort a solid 4 star and can only expect better if they can have their supply chains opened up so they have no constraints on what they can provide. Mediocre Resort

Our first room was unacceptable, we had asked to be close to our friends, it took us two days to change have it changed. Both rooms were rundown, they required maintenance. There was no hot water, it was luke warm at best. The shower head leaked and water squirted everywhere. There was a leak in the ceiling on the second last day, and soaked the floor. None of the plugs for sinks, bedet etc., worked. The phone didn't work, the internet (wifi) was very weak at best. We understand the e [... read more]mbargos on food, however, there was not a lot of variety and tasteless. There was no white wine anywhere to be had. Even the a la carte's left a lot to be desired, except for the Gondola. IT was good. The entertainment was very disappionting. The staff at reception was very unattentive and didn't seem to be interested in resolving any issues, we had to return a number of times, and finally speak to the manager twice. The men's washrooms were not working most of the time in the lobby, and we had to use the women's washroom resulting in a unisex situation. It was very long travel days, almost 11-16 hours due to delays. It was a long way to go to have a mediocre vacation. The grounds, pool and beach were beautiful.

Great resort!

Huge pools, good food, clean rooms, beautiful property & staff, no shortages of food or drinks, tons of restaurants, beautiful beach, lots of boating, snorkelling is amazing, don’t hesitate to stay here, go to all of the a la carte restaurants!

Most beautiful resort with a beautiful, beautiful beach

The grounds and the public areas were always kept clean. Rooms are perfect but Wi-Fi was never available. Shortages of food and liquor for fancy drinks was a huge disappointment and unfortunately I cannot rate this hotel more than three stars.

Great resort

The staff make this hotel, we met so many repeat guests. The staff are so friendly and helpful. Then I asked other guests why they returned it was always the same answer, the staff. The hotel is very clean and the beds comfortable. The pool is amazing and the beach is awesome. There is always plenty to see and do day and night. The only downside was the food, this year the entire island is in a food shortage crisis. Could you always find something to eat that tasted good YES. They tried their best under very difficult circumstances. Would I go back YES THEY ARE LIKE FAMILY HERE. Before you go remember this: You have to remember that you are in a communist country and do not expect the things that you would get from a non communist country.

Cuba's best foot forward

This was our 3rd visit to Playa Pesquero since 2019. Cuba is experiencing supply chain issues at the moment, but the resort has used ingenuity to provide a quality experience for it's customers. For example, paper napkins have been cut in quarters then re-folded, pinã coladas are only available at the main bar, and tequila has been replaced with locally made Black Tears. The entertainment was organic with musicians performing in public areas throughout the day. Unfortunately, this resort isn't renowned for cabaret entertainment, so the large amphitheater is mostly used for kids shows and audience participation events. There were also DJ events and aquafit sessions each day. Internet has been vastly improved since our last visit with free wifi available in many public spaces and as we were told, in room wifi had just been launched and ours was the first building to get it! The wifi is not seamless though. You will have to reconnect each time you change locations which requires prompting to log in again with your stored password. The RTTP was slow with a slight audio/video delay when talking on WhatsApp. Avoid using your phone because you'll be charged by the minute. The beach has many areas shaded by trees where you can stake a claim each day, but you have to get out there early. Because of the density of guests, your valuables are relatively safe unattended. Unfortunately, my snorkeling equipment and towels were stolen after we forgot them at the pool overnight. (This theft was definately done by guests and not staff because our beach bag and a hat were left behind.) There are catamarans available for guided sessions, as well as peddle boats, wind surfers, paddle boards and a laser for individual sailing. (After I capsized the laser, staff motored out to me to help right the boat and help me in. Unfortunately I took too long to catch the wind so they tied along side and dragged my boat back to shore against my wishes. Back at shore, the supervisor graciously apologized and invited me to come back for a sail the next day.) Occassional tipping is important. The salary for these employees is typically around $35 per month, and way below a living wage. Employees almost never request tips openly, but always graciously accept them. Do everybody a favor and bring lots of US $1 bills in good condition. Loonie, Toonie, Pence and Euro coins are useless to them. Employees often ask guests to exchange coins for hard currency which can be traded or deposited in a bank. Employees are also very happy to receive costume jewelry, clothing items, small gadgets, toiletries and medicine as tips, since these items are very hard to come by for Cubans. We didn't use the spa facilities due to time constraints but I did find out that I could get my teeth cleaned by a certified dentist for US $50 at the pharmacia. Overall, our experience was positive. Cubans are some of the friendliest people I've ever met. As the supply chain issues resolve, I expect that services will return to what I've usually experienced.

2 star at best

The beach was beautiful, pool good. Coffee bar was fantastic (coffees were great and service fantastic). Food was 1 out of 10 at the buffet (bland, limited ingredients). A la carte - some were better than others but glad they were better than buffet - 4 out of 10. Rooms old and dated, rust in bath tub, water in shower not always warm. Love this resort!

This was my third time and my husband's 4th time to this resort. We love it. There is an abundance of choices of places to eat. Even if you are picky there is something. The bartenders are great and if they are out something they will find something you like. The resort itself is 20+ years old so there are few things that are showing age but they are constantly working to update and maintain with limited resources. The beach is amazing. The soft sand and amazing blue turquoise water! If you like snorkeling there is many options with some gorgeous curious fish. Blue, yellow, big, small. The pool is great as well. Again showing wear but they are working on updating the tiles on the pool deck. There is multiple options for shade at both the beach and the pool.

Great for families

This is the second time I went to this resort. It is not for couples. It is very much for families. But it offers things to do on the resort that keep you busy and enjoying your time while there. Food was fine. Bottled water is only in the room. Cleaning and gardening incl other staff is friendly and helpful. Sometimes restaurants are disconnected with communication. Great Ocean

As always been it is a great setting of the hotel. The See water is blue and clean. Sun is hot and shine, couple days of rain. The Service is great for tips. Food is not good at all. You pay only for the ocean.
