Spent a great week mid November.
Had a family room beachside - renovated, clean, spacious - plenty of towels and amenities provided each day.
Resort is big but covered in luscious greenery and ponds and we did not mind the walking.
We spent most of our time at the beach - beautiful white sand, never had an issue finding spot we liked. There was a bit of sea weed during our stay (weather related) but was cleaned every day.
Food - we were able to make a reservation to a different ala carte re[... read more]staurant each night (except arrival day) so tried most available (we did not stay at the Level so not tried the one restaurant ). Each dinner had something we liked a lot and something a bit less. Least favorite was the Mexican, which is mostly buffet and we found the plated meal uninspiring. Best was Casa Nostra and Spanish. Overall quality of food was good, which aligned with our expectations (did not go there for gourmet food).
Service - amazing! Every member of staff we encountered was helpful and smiling.
Overall - this is a big and beautiful resort with many different food options and welcoming staff.

Amazing!!!
Resort was amazing, lots of greenery. Perfect for kids with the splash island. Good food choices. Just very slow check in and check-out. Staff would follow-up if your request was delivered to your room. Nice pool but have to be early in order to get a good spot for the shady lounge chairs.

Beautiful Resort
The Melia Caribe Beach resort is beautiful. The grounds are very well maintained. Rooms are clean and very spacious, balconies are large and comfortable. It is a large resort, but everything is walkable. There is a 'train' available that seemed to run consistently around the resort all day long with not much wait time.
Lots of shade available at all of the pools and at the beach. Friendly staff at the pool side bar, drinks were freshly made.
The buffets had enough variety for a week long[... read more] stay, and the food was good. Outdoor seating available at both, or indoors with AC at the main buffet. The Mexican restaurant was very good, but also very slow.
We travelled with 2 teenage boys and they found enough to do during the day, and they had a lot of fun on the inflatable water park in the ocean. They enjoyed hanging out in the lobby at night, The evening shows were just OK, and there was not much activity around the pools during the day. There seemed to be A LOT of activities for younger children though!
Booking restaurants was a challenge. Reservations could only be made the same day, and the line at 8:30AM could be very long with only one person making all reservations for a short period of time. I was told that if there was availability restaurants would take walk-ins, but we did not try this.
The major disappointment was the reception staff. We requested 2 adjoining rooms months in advance, and when we arrived, were given 2 rooms in different buildings. We were told to come back to reception at 6pm the following day to be assigned new rooms. When we arrived the next evening, we had to wait almost an hour in line, only to be told there were no rooms. After much frustration, 2 adjacent rooms were eventually found and we were able to move. However, had we not been so insistent, I believe they would not have moved us.

Do Not Have PRE Covid Expectations!
Let me start off with the Staff were Excellent!! Management were not up to par and already to provide Lip Service. 3 rooms were booked together or adjoining for all of us to assist with a special needs individual. We we told to wait for our rooms as we need to be upgraded (no mention of additional charges). Once we went back for our rooms after 5 pm we were told an extra $1050 USD to get the rooms we booked??? By 7pm and two room changes later we were able to settle for 3 rooms sub standard. 3 r[... read more]ooms with safes not working for 3 days, 2 rooms with no WI FI for 7 days, and one room with out a properly working toilet (be prepared for plumbing skills) and a room that did not lock from ground level patio doors for 7 days. Grounds were beautiful.
As for the advertised 7 restaurants there is no such thing! Only one Buffet available for Dinner and a la Cartes are only booked on Sunday. Beach buffet closes for LEVEL service at dinner. Beach was full of seaweed and smelly. If you wanted to lay on a beach bed, be prepared to pay $37 USD per day and only use of one beach bar if not upgraded to LEVEL. I don't know if this is because of Post Covid Travel..but if this is the case I will consider staying home or visiting Florida.
Just to mention be prepared for the for the A La Cartes and they can only except reservations on Sunday. Japanese and Steak house $$$ extra to book. Steak $49.00 USD.
I don't understand the Melia?? I have been to Punta Can 6 times and even stayed at the Paradisus that I would highly recommend Pre Covid.
Very disappointed with this trip. Mary Lynne

Beautiful resort
Had a wonderful vacation at Melia Caribe Beach resort, grounds are beautiful, rooms are nice and very clean and of course the beach is second to none, if anything was a let down it was the food at the buffet, we prefer not to book the other eateries because we do not like to be locked in to a specific time to eat, the first few days the buffet was served in chafing warmers, was a little shocked no grill for breakfast or dinner but then after 3 days voila the grill was there and pasta offered at [... read more]dinner so that was good, all in all out of 10 it was a high 9, great place for kids really enjoyed watching the little ones play and be sweet.

Amazing resort
The Melia caribe is an awsome resort. This was our first trip south and probably not our last. The staff on the resort are so friendly and happy. Its a very clean place. We felt comfortable there with the covid situation. You had to wear a mask while going threw the buffet until you were seated at your table. The staff always had a mask on whether they were inside or out driving you on the golf cart. They were very helpful with the covid testing at the resort. The food at the buffet was awsome[... read more]. A big selection and always something different to try. You can smoke on your patio at your room and there were ashtrays outside in places also. The store on the resort had alot of different options as far a souvenirs. The cleaning staff came every day to clean the room and put fresh towels. Our fridge was filled daily by Marcos Aponte. He was a really nice guy and very helpful. The beach was amazing and had showers to rinse the sand off. The beach was very clean. I would recommend this place. Rachel was awsome in getting our trip planned and I would definitely Rachel as a travel agent.

Lovely but disappointed
Beautiful, clean resort and beach, but 4 times could not get into our room as door not working. Did not have it near the phone or credit cards and they said they would have it checked but not until the 4th time did someone come and "activate" the door and then the cards worked immediately so it was definitely the door. Quite a distance to have to walk and get reset.
Also, had trouble getting through on the number to reserve for restaurants...busy and then no answer. Heard a few other peopl[... read more]e had trouble with this as well. Really just poor management as a lovely resort, but 4 times??

Mediocre
The hotel grounds and beach were beautiful. Some of the neighbouring resorts had sea weed removal trucks, which made for a cleaner beach. Melia caribe had two men cleaning the beach with tools every morning.
There was a lot of confusion and miscommunication around restaurant bookings and we had a few hiccups there. Service was also extremely slow.
The rooms were pretty clean and beds were very comfortable. The buffet was basic compared to other resorts we’ve been to. They were out of food [... read more]a lot and you had to ask for bananas and anything not frequently being replenished. Staff seemed agitated most of the time. The events were fun and overall layout of the hotel was very functional.

Beautiful beach
The hotel has an amazing beachfront with lots of space. We always found a great spot at the beach or pool even if we were a little late going down. Staff was very friendly and had great service, especially the bartenders at the pool and lobby bar - they could make anything you can imagine! Staff followed covid protocols (masking, cleaning between guests) well, and there was hand sanitizer available at entrances to buffets, however we brought our own sanitizer for the table which made us more com[... read more]fortable. The air transat representative at the hotel was helpful in booking us our covid test to return to Canada, and he sent a nurse to our room to complete the test so we didn’t need to wait in line. Alternatively there was testing in the conference room in the lobby. The al la carte restaurants had delicious food, particularly the Mediterranean and Italian! The room was nice, bed was very comfortable, however our hair dryer didn’t work (which was ok for us, and we didn’t ask them to fix it). Overall a great trip, would definitely go back. Rachel at trip central was very helpful in booking and planning the trip! Thank you Rachel!

A guilty paradise during Covid!
This was our second time to this resort, and we were in an upgraded area called The level. The first time we were here we were in the adults only section also called The Level so it can be a bit confusing. My recommendation is if you are adults travelling it’s worth it to upgrade to the level and then you can also go onto the adults only area etc. While the resort has done an excellent job of maintaining COVID-19 protocols, there certainly were Some big hits and then some equally big misses. F[... read more]irst off I would like to recognize the wonderful staff who are working and trying so hard. While the resort was closed for eight months They were not able to retain all of the experienced staff so there was a combination of experience staff who returned along with very inexperienced staff. This was evident in areas such as the barefoot Grill on the beach where they would leave cooked items out for hours, and we’re talking about pre-cooked hamburgers, french fries, chicken nuggets, etc. which could’ve easily been cooked fresh upon order. Instead they were left in the open air in metal Buffet containers for im guessing are least a few hours which is a huge no-no and it was completely in edible. Same goes for the Merkado snack trailer where I was actually given a completely raw hotdog… And I’m not kidding it was completely uncooked! Also during breakfast it seems that the staff are not checking to see whether the heater or lights are on in the Buffet area and one morning I had 2 completely ice cold poached eggs. Needless to say this is a quick way to get your guests sick, but having said all of that for the most part the food was good and absolutely wonderful at these restaurants: the Italian,Quimera, the Vietnamese (muoi) the Riviera and the Buffet at the American Grill was also OK. We were really disappointed when we had a meal at La Hacienda which is the Mexican restaurant. When we were here last time this was a highlight of our trip but this time it was a complete disaster. Again you could see the inexperience is what came into play and made the experience far less palatable than expected. The grounds and the pool and the beach are all amazing and while the swim up bars are closed you can still easily get whatever you want to drink without any issue. I really noticed a difference in the quality of the liquor as last time we were there in 2016 we could get all top shelf liquors but not now. it looks like most of the liquor is local which is OK but you don’t get the same quality. Also our butler Reynaldo a.k.a. Ray, was absolutely amazing and looked after our every need. He texted us every morning to see how we were and what our day was looking like and where he could help. Truly this was such a help for us and even though we had been there before he helped us navigate through a few different things and nothing turned into an issue as a result of his care for us. I also wanna Shout out to other staff such as Alexandra Amanda, Catherine, Jennifer, German, Carlo, Moses, and so many others that made our stay so enjoyable. Considering that we were able to come during a pandemic and Just not have to think About it for a week was a really good break for us so thank you very much Melia Caribe tropical and we look forward to seeing you again next time!

Great food + Beautiful Property
Great place to visit. Great design throughout. The rooms are a little outdated though, but still tasteful. Great double showers. Comfortable bed. Beautiful landscaping on this immense property. Fun pools by the ocean. Lots of variety available with the sister resort right next to it. Beach is nice but they divide the swimming area with a floating edge that murks the water. Well worth walking to the right a bit for the most gorgeous turquoise waters. Best restaurants: Italian, Meditarrenean, Span[... read more]ish. Buffets are really good. Quality of food is high. Very nice resort
We absolutely loved this resort. It doesn’t have your typical a la crate‘a. You don’t need any reservations for them and no limit either. Dress code was much nicer for men as well. You can wear shorts and golf shirt with sandals. Unlike most were men have to wear long pants and closed toe shoes. The resort was well kept and clean. Entertainment at night was so fun. Staff was wonderful. I would return to this resort

Absolutely fantastic resort
While our stay didn't start off too well- TV didn't work, mosquitoes in the room, was unable to unlock safe after locking, only one garbage can, in the washroom, and no ice-bucket- all these issues were resolved with one call, almost immediately. Our room was very spacious, and although on the ground floor, the surrounding are was surprisingly quiet. Nightly entertainment was top notch, buffets at the main compound and at the beach were amazing and well stocked, and restaurants provided delicio[... read more]us variety. The Italian was superb! The beach was out of this world: I'm not a swimmer, so to finally see calm, salt water, was heaven sent. Our concierge, Moberley, was extremely helpful in making sure all our needs were being met. The grounds were well manicured and onsite wild life was refreshing. All in all, a terrific spot to vacation at.

Lovely resort
The resort was clean well cared for, food ok, but lots of choice. The beach was large, plenty of loungers. Staff very pleasant and helpful. There was a bit of renovating going on in some of the units. Service to and from airport on time. Getting into the country was lengthy---long lines, slow fingerprinted in one line and not others.

Wonderful Holiday
A group of 25 people stayed at this resort for a magical wedding celebration. This was a large resort but easy to get around. Beautiful beach that you could walk forever. You never felt crowded. The staff and service were amazing. Gentle, kind people that always have a smile. I don’t usually go back to the same resort but I might just have too.

Beautiful resort
Great location. Beautiful sand beaches with lots of spots to relax. Water was perfect temperature for swimming. Restaurant and bar close by beach which was nice. It was a bit of a walk from our room to the beach which was good for us. Others less mobile can easily take the shuttle. Restaurants and service were excellent.golf course was a pleasure to play although the 50 pp for a cart was a little high.
