Wonderful vacation at Royal Catalonia

The Hotel was by far one of the most beautiful resorts we have visited. Size is perfect as with around 220 rooms and a large area, you feel like you have resort to yourself. Food was amazing Beach is 5 stars Staff are amazing with 5 star service Would go back in a heartbeat

Excellent Resort

The Catalonia Royal Bavaro grounds are immaculate, plenty of food choices, friendly staff, poolside evening entertainment was great. The Barcelona Origens bartenders were outstanding. The resort is easy to navigate. The shows were good. We had fun, relaxed and would go back.

Not the best vacation

To start, the hotel was over sold so that did not help things. When we arrived, nobody took our luggage and we did not receive a drink or cloth as we have at previous resorts where we stayed. The service lacked. Every time we requested a drink (we had to go the bar everytime as there was no beach or pool service) we felt as if we were a pain requesting drinks. The only thing good about the resort was our swimup room.

Beautiful Resort! Food needs some seasoning!

This resort is beautiful. It was our second time staying here, and we'll probably be back again! This hotel is great, the grounds are beautiful, but some rooms need updating. Everyone that works at the hotel is super helpful and friendly. There was an issue finding our reservation when we arrived, which could have easily been a disaster, but the staff was very good about sending us to eat while they sorted it out. We had to wait about 1.5 hours after we arrived but all was good and we did [... read more] get the room we had booked. We stay in the Privileged Exclusive Suite with a Swimming Pool. The pool is amazing. These rooms haven't been updated in a while. The furniture in the living area of the room is not comfortable, but honestly, we never sit in there. Why would you sit inside when you could be out at the pool? We never did figure out how to work our jacuzzi. There are no instructions and the keypad control doesn't make logical sense. The shower and other things in the room were fine and in great shape. The beach was a bit weedy when we were there, but they had just had a big storm the night before. Staff was working furiously to get it cleaned up and by the time we left it looked great! The food at the resort is touch and go. Room service is always fast and hot. We had breakfast several times on the patio, and it was always great. The buffets are always a hit. So many choices and all very good. The formal dining restaurants get a little tired after a week, but I think that is only because it was our second time there, so we already knew what we liked and what we didn't like. One addition that was new was the coffee shop (which was great!) It's a little far from the adults-only side of the resort, and they don't have any "to-go" type of cups so you had to drink it there. If you are going, I suggest taking a reusable cup so that you could enjoy your iced coffee, etc back at your room!

Returning 10 Years After Our Wedding Here

We were married at this resort 10 years ago and decided to return for our Anniversary. It was amazing to see all the added gardens, and a new beach side bar as well as a new a la carte restaurant on the Royal side which also doubles as a pizzeria for lunch. The service on the Royal side was amazing at all times during our stay while it was more hit and miss on the family side. However the breakfast buffets on both sides were outstanding. The Sea Blue and the Thalassa were our favourites. All staff throughout the resort were extremely friendly. This time the beach was hit hard by seaweed however staff worked hard and tirelessly to remove it all day. Such a hard working crew that worked in 35 degree temps while having a good time and smiling while doing it. While we had an amazing and much need holiday it was unfortunate that the resort did nothing to even acknowledge our return for our Anniversary. We were the first wedding ever here and it was a bit of a milestone anniversary for us as well. Other visitors that were there for random anniversaries or birthdays were acknowledged however we were completely overlooked. Wasn’t expecting much but it would have been appreciated even after email communication in advance.

Catalonia Royal

We had a great time. We were able to upgrade our room for a small fee (giving us a private pool) and we absolutely loved it. The staff were friendly and helpful. Lots of nightly activities. The food was decent, and the beach was gorgeous. We would definitely travel here again

Second times a charm!

We came to this resort last year around the same time because how much we loved it. Food was okay this time... there was always a couple restaurants closed every night which left us with only a couple to go to... the Asian one took forever... not as many options as last time for sure. The beach was well kept! Water was kind a rocky but that’s beyond their control. We loved how quite and peaceful it was. Staff were friendly. Would visit again!

Great service in general. Food was great! The beach was a disappointment as it was always full of weeds and therefore people were opting the pools to the beach. Pools were well maintained. Had to call room service multiple times for various issues. The response was quick. Resort could organize more excursions at better rates. Too many outside agencies selling packages @ exorbitant rates. Did not like the manner in which the resort tried selling us their multi year multi location vacati [... read more]on packages. Wasted half a day of our vacation on this.

Excellent

Modern fun decor, laid back vibe Breakfast restaurant was excellent, beautifully presented mimosas, crepes, fresh fruit, great coffee. Frozen cocktails on the beach with fresh banana, we really enjoyed the food and atmosphere of this resort

Awesome people, food and accommodations

This adult only resort was quiet, relaxing and just what we needed. The staff are amazing and the resort is beautifully maintained. The only drawback was the seaweed on the beach! Nothing the resort can control but as a result we chose to hang out at one of the 3 options of pools. (2 on the royal side and 1 in the family side) we also had upgraded to a swim out with our room so we had plenty of choices to cool down. The food was top notch and portions were perfect!

One of the best resorts

Just spent 7 days here June 6-13th. This was one of the best adult only resorts we have been to. Rooms were spacious and very clean. Maids came around in early evening to ensure we had everything we needed. The service was great in all restaurants and at the front desk. The food was really very good. Nice white sandy beach with waiter service at your chair!

Our 2nd time at this resort

The grounds are lovely and well maintained. We ate at the buffet for breakfast and pretty much every night. There was always a huge selection and the food was awesome. We had lunch at the Thelasson restaurant a couple of times, great food no complaints here about the food. Pool areas are very nice. The beach is small but you can use the beach at the sister resort next door. Plenty of lounge chairs and areas with shade. The maids that cleaned our room were awesome, lots of fresh towels an [... read more]d drinking water. Unfortunately on 2 occasions towards the end of our trip there were cockroaches in the bathroom. HUGE turn off! If this had happened at the beginning of our vacation I would have either asked to be moved or left the resort. Staff overall friendly and helpful. We played golf at the 18 hole course which could have been in better shape for the money you pay. We played the 9 hole course on site which was in rough shape and would not recommend it. .

Relaxing and quiet Time

We stayed in the Royal adults only section and had a wonderful time. Plenty of places to just lay back, read, swim, drink and eat. Our room was spotless and the staff was always friendly and did their best to communicate in English. We'll be back soon.

1 week @ Catalonia Royal Bavaro

Excellent Resort, Excellent Room, Excellent Staff, Excellent Dining, Excellent Amenities... unfortunately the beach area was overrun with seaweed and the water murky but the swimming pools were excellent...

Good Value

This property is well maintained. The swimming pools are spacious with plenty of loungers available. Service at the swim up bars is a bit slow . Some of the newer staff struggle with speaking English at all. The hotel has been made aware of this. Meals are good and restaurants offer a variety of seafood, steak and Tai food. Privileges are extended next door at the huge Bavaro resort. This is a plus because all nightime entertainment is over at the Bavaro including the casino. Wine at the Italia [... read more]n restaurant at the Bavaro is suspect. You can get a glass of Chardonay at the Royal. You have to pay for it as a premium wine at the Italian restaurant. This caused guests to bring their own into the Italian restuarant. That should not be the case. Based on my experience I think this resort needs to make changes to keep its 5 star rating. At present it is a 4 in my opinion. I prefer resorts that play English music and understand our language

Fantastic trip!

I love this resort, we went last year and it was beautiful. I’ve never been on vacation and this resort really put the level of excellence to the top. The staff was great and when we came back this year they remembered us which was such a wonderful feeling that our of so many people they see all year long they remembered us!! We will be going back in two years

Fantastic - as usual!

This was our 10th stay at Catalonia Royal Bavaro, We keep going back due to the friendliness and service we receive each and every time. As well, the food was super except for one dinner which the staff bent over backwards to remedy. We will be going back again next year. We feel 'if it's not broken - don't fix it'. Disappointing Vacation

Unfortunately I have a lot of negative comments regarding this resort. From the beginning of our stay we experienced a lot of frustration. We were told upon check in that our room had been upgraded but wasn't ready yet. We were then wisked off to a desk where we were invited to a special breakfast and told to bring our credit card. Bottom line Time Share. No thanks. Our room was 28 degrees and had no water. We were told it would be fixed by 10 pm. We spent 2 nights in this room because apparent [... read more]ly the resort was booked. Several other guests were told the same thing. The whole block of rooms had no air they were just hoping no one would complain. We slept with our sliding door open as did many others. We were finally moved to another room. It was definitely cooler, however the door handle was broken as was the toilet handle. To open the door to the room you had to throw your weight against it. Food was quite good. Breakfast was the same every day. Staff in general were not happy or friendly. There seemed to be a constant presence of management floating around almost like they were damage control. I have never had to fill out a survey during breakfast at an all inclusive before. The pool was nice. We were at the quieter infinity pool. Bar service to your lounger was sporatic. The beach is a disaster. Not the resort's fault but an incredible amount of sea weed floating in the water and washed up on the shore made even dipping your toe into the ocean impossible. Not very pleasant smelling either. To say this was a disappointing vacation is an understatement. We will not return nor recommend this resort or chain to anyone.
