Beautiful Resort

This resort is huge. The grounds are beautiful & the beach & pool are amazing. Staff very friendly for the most part. Front desk staff could work on being a little more friendly & smile more. Food in buffet was just okay. Melisa, Alianet & Arlenys, thanks for the amazing lobby service & warm smiles. You made our vacation so nice. Our room was nice & our room maid was amazing. Thank you Josemary.

Will never stay here again

The resort was horrible. A bad case of the fleas by everyone in our trip. A case of food poisoning for me and the food was just plain horrible will never go back to any resort in Cuba again. Then on top of it all stayed in the horrible Cuba air port in Varadero from 1 pm till 1130 pm due to plane troubles so Sunwing will never have me business again

Not as expected

hotel grounds are too spread out and requires lot of walking to get from one point to the other. food was not to standard. birds are all over the food and hotel staff is not addressing this problem. I requested room close to everything due to mobility problems my wife is having and this request was granted. however the bathtub was about two feet from the floor. on the pro side I must say the staff and services were great. the pools were fantastic and so were the entertainment. grounds were well  [... read more]kept.

Making memories in Memories Varadero

We absolutely loved the resort. Although the rooms left little to be desired, the awesome staff more than made up for it. Wee Laura Marie, our server in the buffet is as sweet as she is beautiful. David, Emmanuel and Roberto at the bar in the activities pool were phenomenal!! They took great care of us, and bent over backwards to ensure we had a fabulous experience. Great stay

It was a gorgeous resort. Very large. Entertainment team was amazing. Lots going on. Quiet pool was relaxing, activity pool was busy. Few things I’d like to see change: 1) they ran out of cups and plates constantly 2) the bars were slowwwww 3) the carts to get you around the resort were rarely seen which left you walking 40 minutes across the resort 4) the buffet food was horrible, the exact same every day, long long long waits to get in the door let alone get the food. 5) the hotel room was s [... read more]o musty smelling we had a hard time breathing and I’ve been to Cuba 10 times.. Pretty Good Trip

First time going to Memories . We went with people that have been over a dozen times . Because of that I think that’s why our vacation was good and it helps the people you go with . Our Room was in the 30 building renovated block . Bed was great , room was clean . Nothing special but a lot of people’s rooms had mold and no updated rooms . We lucked out . Shortage on cups in all bars in the evening couldn’t get a drink if you didn’t save your cup , some alcohol /mix ran out as well. Could never seem to get new beach towels either . But after all this you are in Cuba where there is shortages and you need to expect that . The staff worked quickly to solve any and all problems and treated us like family ! Great selection of food still even with the shortages . Even though it wasn’t perfect we we definitely return . We had a good time despite the little hiccups , but definitely get Diamond club for sure and hope to be in an updated room

Memories varadero

Not impressed at all. We have been there 5 times and to see the hotel in the state it is now is unbelieveable Mold in the rooms. No clean beach towels all week. No shower curtains or even a place to hang the towels in the shower to dry. I do understand that it was only about 40% occupied but still The food was the same every day did not matter if on the beach or in the cafeteria. Manicure land scapping resort

My only complaint is the food Nice presentation of the various food bars and food trays However they don't know how to cook various pieces of meat and the hot table are NEVER hot A la carte restos let to be desire except Italian resto Most of the 10 days I was there, I had sever dearia and I am still sick after being back 72 hours. I lostb10 pounds!!!

Beautiful Beach!

We stayed at Memories Resort from July 28th to August, 6th. The grounds are beautifully kept. The is a large resort so someone with mobility issues might have a problem. We were located at building 25 which was located close to the quiet pool and main buffet. The rooms were kept clean but very dated. There were issues with the refrigerator not working, the piping in the bathtub was completely rusted as well as the mold smell. The main buffet had a variety of food. You would never go hungry. The [... read more] beach bar-b-q was amazing. Entertainment at the party pool was fun too. The pools did have a lot of floating cups and people smoking inside the pool. The quiet pool looked green by the end of our stay, as for shade there was always plenty. The staff are great and always greeting you with a friendly smile. I did forget to mention the bathrooms located at the main lobby were horrible, never had toilet paper and was invested with cockroaches. Overall our trip was amazing, the weather was sunny and hot with just a few rain showers that lasted for a few minutes. Would I go back to this resort, I definitely would but with an upgraded room! I did forget to mention the nightly entertainment was amazing with the disco! And don't forget to bring a reusable cup with you, they ran out of cups every night!

Memories Cuba, veradero

I loved the hotel, cubans and all the people I met I definitely want to go back to Cuba and I hope to have the time of my life again like last time! The Cuban’s are soooo beautiful as well and so sweet.

Good resort

Resort was good, we loved the performances they had each night. Restaurants booking was not so great as we were provided wrong dates and one of the restaurants was closed on the night we were booked. Everything was clean, food was good, great music and friendly staff and entertainment. Not sure if we would pick this resort again but would definitely visit Varadero again.

Hotel was ok!

Hotel is old, the main pool was green all week. the beach was amazing no seaweeds. beautiful weather Diamond club is a must. you have your own private beach section with bar. no need to reserve early morning. chairs were always available . the buffet no need to wait in line. plus sitting in A/C dinning room access to good type of drinks. access to 4 restaurants instead of 2. the best one being Japonese. atmosphere was good. lobby was fun. good music it a big resort not enough carts that go a [... read more]round. one day most of the hotel was missing plastic cups.

Comfortable but serious issues for families

No complaints about the hotel itself. Comfortable, nice and clean except for the pools. Our family (and a few others we spoke with) could have done without floating condoms and plastic cups in the pool and menstrual pads in the waterslide steps and on the beach. Room (Superior Garden view) was clean and comfortable, air conditioning only failed once and was promptly fixed. Water bottles and toilet paper were replenished most days without having to ask for it. The food varied from very [... read more] good to great. However, with 99% of the clientele July 13-22 2019 being Cuban during the week we visited, even having paid extra to be upgraded to the Diamond Club we had to deal with very long queues to access the food itself. Sometimes as long as an hour in the queue for grilled fish. same for pasta, pizza, etc. For these same reason, cereal for the kids in the morning and ice cream for dessert was most often empty and unavailable for our own kids, with Cuban patrons filling entire bags and/or several plates with all that was available for all customers. Obvious luxuries in Cuba, but we pay for that... You might be standing in line, only to see a person get served the entire available fish from the grill and enough shrimp for 6 or 7 people, in 3 overflowing plates. Then have to wait for the cook to start a new batch. Then rinse/repeat several times before it eventually was your turn to get the 4 pieces of fish you were waiting for to feed your family. Be there before the buffet opens and have a plan for each family member. Eating 3 times a day this was a considerable inconvenient. Enough for us not to return to Memories Varadero. My other main issue with Memories Varadero is that during the week we visited, smiles were not "by default" but had to be purchased with considerable tipping. Initially all but a couple of employees would serve us without any greeting or smiles. If you tipped for the poor service, you might get a smile on subsequent orders. If you tipped a lot, then you got a greeting and fair to good service going forward. Again, not a major issue, but paying $4K for a vacation, I expect at least polite greetings and smiles without added fees. Diamond Club had no incidence on the quality of customer service, contrary to what we experienced at other hotels such as Grand Memories Cayo Santa Maria where we truly felt like VIPs. A few employees of the hotel stood out and provided great service, such as Karelia at the pool bar, and Maynelvis at the Diamond club dining room. Same for the camareras, all were very pleasant and agreeable whenever we met them. Entertainment was very good. The beach is great but not clean, cigarette butts are not picked up by staff nor smokers, so our kids played in the sand below the tide line. We picked several plastic cups out of the ocean, which didn't seem to bother the locals who left them in the water and in the sand. The double-decker bus which runs outside the hotel every 30 minutes compound will take you to Varadero in half an hour and is a nice trip for the kids. $5 pesos per head for all above 6 years of age. A bit pricey seeing how you can get a ride in an old classic convertible taxi (even nicer for the kids) for the same price and the driver will gladly wait for you at a few stops such as craft markets or rhum/cigar stores. The gym is very well equipped with weights & benches and the air conditioning is perfect. Be extra careful and look under the few small mats before stepping on them, as some of them cover holes that go right through the hard wood floor. Unfortunately they did not use any plywood under the hardwood strips. Simply move the mats so you can see the holes while you work out. Be advised, the bungalows nearer to the beach are a brisk 8-minute walk to the lobby/main buffet. Be prepared to walk. A lot. Through beautiful grounds though, especially when the flowers are blooming in the trees. We asked for a transport (maletero w/luggage carts) on our last day so we didn't have to walk all the way to the lobby on cobblestone with our luggage at 6 in the morning. The transport did not show, which came as no surprise. All in all, a good looking hotel with great food if you can beat the Cubans to it, and good entertainment but major issues regarding customer service as well as in some specific areas with regards to cleanliness.

Returned after 8 years

It has been 8 years since I had been at this property. The beach remains lovely and pristine. The a la carte restaurants are defiantly worth making reservations. Public relations made my stay even more comfortable and took care of all my needs quickly with resolutions. Room was always cleaned in a timely fashion and maid was amazingly friendly and courteous. Thi [... read more]s property is very large so walking is always expected. The bank being open 24 hours was a great feature. The spa was very well managed and maintained along with the fitness centre.

Not as good as before!

Some of the hotel staff like the one's we used to know from previous visit on the same resort is still awesome!!!, but most of them they don't even give you the time of day. The rooms are still the same but need some updates for sure. The pool are disgusting!!! There's plastic cups everywhere looks like they haven't clean it so we didn't spent anytime in the pool, I wouldn't even dip my feet in it Food at the buffet and specially at the lunch area by the pool side is disgusting!!! We order hot d [... read more]ogs and it looks like that they literally just roll the hotdog on the grill just to grab the grease of the grill and serve it to us, the hot dogs were pale and not even cook at all. When it comes to alcohol beverages they run out of beer and white wine at the front lobby and even some liquor too J&B to be exact. The food was so bad that we had to reserve Japanese food for dinner 4 nights in a row because that's the only decent food you could get. So to some this all up I wouldn't go back to that same resort ever again.

Fantastic Time

Stayed here Between May 28 - June 4th, Great Time.... Rooms are very Clean i stayed in 24... staff very friendly ...never a complaint, the food right now is not the best but you are not going to Cuba for the food. Beach and the Ocean amazing!!!

Memories

The hotel grounds was nice, beautiful beaches and great tours. The food was not good. But I think this is a common theme. The cleaning staff (the attendant) we had was excellent. Very creative in making images with the towels and covers. The Canadian exchange is horrible. All around, Cuba is a beautiful island that has alot of history and kind people. Cuba should utilize more resources to make their food edible.

Loved it!

We Always come to this resort and we love it. The grounds are so beautifully kept. Workers are so friendly. The whole place just feels so safe. Everyone is very helpful. Rooms are cleaned daily. Very clean. Great energy all around and great entertainment. Cannot wait to go back.

Bang for your buck

Memories provided everlasting memories for our mommy daughter (8 year old) trip. Cuba as a whole is a beautiful country with a rough political history and the most beautiful beaches so there must be a few things you understand. You can find something to eat but it is not good. Hot dogs, rice, potatoes, yucca, beans to name a few. To avoid the monster line up get there at 6 pm. The snack bar has a great list but basically only has tuna sandwiches and hamburgers... when we were there they didn't even have fries to get with it but really people are you there to eat all day? Drinks were always flowing. The pools were so much fun for my daughter and for myself as well. the quite pool wasn't so quite as we brought music, That pool was great and not too packed. The party pool (with slide) was fun. Really busy lots of chairs and people to socialize with if your into that. The beach is A++ with lots of chairs and we always had a umbrella to go under. The room was basic. All the necessities and we just slept in it so that did us fine. afternoon showers were hot in my room not in the morning though I was told others had hot showers... I was in building 32 which was beside a restaurant only open 4 days we were there and had a good breakfast, 50 feet from the beach party pool and disco.... GREAT location. The disco was fun.. your kids are allowed there as well but it was a good party and good music. the ages in there are from 20-60 and a few kids dancing... people apparently were coming from other resorts to party so you know it was alright. The workers were out of this world amazing, I heard people saying they are grumpy... No.. actually take time to speak to them. ask them where they are from, or if they kids. They will be happy to tell you. All in all, would I go back again? It was great and if I was paying $800 or less, Yes. the food is always lacking in Cuba but this was pretty bad.. over then that for a affordable get away why not1

Great trip

Overall I loved the hotel but I’m not a super picky person. First of all it is huge. So my feet were sore but I got a work out. There are shuttles that go around but you could wait longer waiting for a shuttle than just walking. The food was ok. Nothing spectacular but that’s Cuba.
