Las Palmas by the Sea: Basic No Frills resort

Grounds were excellent, reception was blah,no map, no information at check-in. No fridge or coffee maker in room. That's an issue as bottled water was room temperature and you had to get dressed before a first coffee. Food was repetitive, and catered to majority of guests, who were Mexican. Loved the staff, a saving grace ! For the price, would not return.

Barcelo Puerto Vallarta: Nice resort

Clean, good service. Only downside was I had to pay for zero beer. Other than that the food was great and room service was great. Front desk was super helpful. Enjoyed my stay at the this resort and would stay again.

Samba Vallarta: Lovely stay

The hotel is old for sure, hot water in shower is pretty much non existent. There are a lot of kids so if that's not your thing its not for you. The staff and food make the resort,Louise and jazmin at the pool bar are amazing. Overall the staff get a 10 out of ten, the resort itself should be rated a 3 star.

Riu Vallarta: Barely Okay Stay

This was our first trip to Mexico and we booked 3 weeks, paying a premium for a top hotel. The only good thing I can say is that the weather is incredible - blue skies and 29-31C every day. Room was bad, ended up paying another $750 CAD for an upgrade after a 4 day wait. (This must be a common practice because they have an actual "Upgrade Your Room" Desk for a fee.) Pools are overcrowded with people reserving chairs well before 7am even though they say this is not allowed. Then the hotel started closing all A La Cartes except 1 so your meal options were limited to the Buffet or the 1 restaurant that you cannot reserve in advance so good luck getting in. FYI - most of the A La Cartes are also buffets. In my opinion, the food options are terrible. You're not going to starve but the options rarely change so it's the same thing day after day after day - it gets old fast. The hotel moved us again to completely close the North Wing of the hotel because of cancellations, etc. so 3 rooms in 3 weeks. There was no pool/beach bar service and the drinks were just okay - bitter vodka, probably low-end quality for sure. There is a sign in the room that says they restock the minibar/coffee/waters every 2nd day but we had to call down at least 4 times because they were not replenished. We booked one excursion in the hotel with Sunwing (Rhythm of the Night) - we were not told we had 2 options (evening/night shows) so we were booked on the night show where the show was first and dinner was served at 10:30pm. We had to take a taxi to/from the marina ourselves (more $). The boat brought us back to the marina just after midnight where NO transportation was waiting to take any of us back to our hotels. One person managed to find a taxi, and luckily for us that driver called a bunch of his counterparts for the rest of us- otherwise, I'm not sure what we would have done. The nightly hotel entertainment was just bad and depending on where your room is, you can't get away from it. It repeats every week, so if you're there for 3 weeks, you're going to see the same things 3 different times. You can walk for miles on the beaches which is nice, but there are few shells, etc. to find (if that's your thing). Beach chairs are plentiful but side tables are not. Local bus service is available right outside the hotel, and takes you to Walmart where you can take a different local bus to the Malecon, etc. Or the bellhops can get you a cab from the hotel. I doubt this entire poor experience was a result of the cartel effect (which really lasted 2 days). This was our first vacation in 15 years and I was beyond disappointed. Overall, I felt ripped off, especially considering what we paid.

Krystal Puerto Vallarta: Very basic Resort!

The Krystal Puerto Vallarta is a basic 2 or 3 star Resort. Was very outdated, over run by Raccoons at night that can be seen climbing on the closed buffet tables. The daily bland buffet that never changed got very tiring after the 3rd day. The so- called Adult Pool was never cleaned and had slimy tiles with sand on the bottom. No nightly entertainment and there was nothing to do to keep you entertained on the resort. Thankfully this resort was conveniently located on a strip where there were other restaurants and lounges and malls/ stores within walking distance to attend to keep us busy. Not worth the 5K we spent for a 7 day stay.

Grand Decameron Complex Bucerias Trademark: Best holiday we never had.

We cancelled our vacation at grand Decameron due to the civil unrest. This would have been our milestone birthdays holiday. We had planned this vacation for a couple of years only to have it cancelled due to the cartel uprising

Grand Decameron Complex Bucerias Trademark: This resort exceeded our expectations!

From the moment we arrived, we were taken care of. When I needed a playpen, they were so quick and brought it to our room. Room service even made the sheets in the playpen when they cleaned. The staff are some of the friendliest people I’ve met, and felt like friends/family when we left. The food is incredible, never tried the restaurants but also didn’t feel like we missed out. Grand Park Royal Puerto Vallarta: Classic Puerto Vallarta

The hotel has lovely rooms with stunning views, and fabulous common areas on the main floor and pool levels. The buffet dining rooms were well appointed with a good selection of food from Mexico and theme nights throughout the week. The coffee shop/ice cream bar was appreciated as well. The grounds of the hotel are very limited, with no real space to walk outdoors, as the hotel is built into the escarpment with very little space for gardens and walkways. The beach is beautiful but small and wa [... read more]s too rough to use most of the week we were there. Definitely not suitable for small children. Luckily a children’s pool with slides and water play was situated in a courtyard on the second level. The two main pools are situated in such a way that they were in full shade until afternoon, which was disappointing for the sun seekers in our group. And on a logistics note, the location of this hotel is about an hour’s drive from the airport, taking a little longer with drop offs from the shuttle along the way. At the end of our week, we had the shuttle to ourselves and it took 45-50 minutes. In the descriptions we read before travelling the time from the airport was listed as 30 minutes or less.

Las Palmas by the Sea: Wonderful staff

We spent 2 weeks at Las Palmas by the Sea at the end of February. The resort is very well situated with an expansive beach frontage in comparison to other options in the hotel zone. I would recommend the oceanview upgrade as the building is so close to the ocean - offering a spectacular view. Resort staff are the best! Guadalupe and Edgar are wonderful in the morning and around the adult and beach area. Pedro and Daniel make the restaurant extra special and David runs a great evening bar. Thomas [... read more] and Martin help with concierge and ensure you are comfortable traveling around the city. All staff are friendly everywhere on resort. These are the ones we remember the most. Being perfectly honest, the rooms are underwhelming at best. This is not a new resort, the beds are new and everything is very clean. The buffet is small compared to others we have experienced but there is always something good to eat. It’s clear the owners treat their staff well. They enjoy their jobs and engage so well with each other and their guests. We were on resort during the security incident in Puerto Vallarta. The team rallied and secured us and made us feel very safe. They should all be commended for their professionalism and dedication (most worked double shifts and many slept on resort). Las Palmas is a casual, fun, and quaint option if you’d like to stay in PV and venture out to enjoy all the city has to offer. We felt safe continuing around the city within 2 days of the incident. All locals want you to feel safe and welcome.

Villas Vallarta by Canto del Sol: Unfortunate adventure

Clean pools. Good food. Friendly staff except front desk. When the cartel violence occurred we were ordered by front desk to pay an extra $2000 or leave the hotel. Very scary. Still waiting to get our money back

Plaza Pelicanos Club: Quaint resort

Look carefully at the layout of this place. It is not on the beach. There is another resort behind it that overlooks the beach. You have to walk thru the lobby and around another building to reach the area where you can access the beach. The staff are friendly and helpful and a few are funny and entertaining. The grounds are immaculate. The rooms are clean. The food is good. However we experienced a nasty sewage smell in the area off and on thru out our 10 day stay. Barcelo Puerto Vallarta: BARCELO Puerta Vallarta

This resort is a lovely place. It is not an overly large resort, which is what we had hoped for. It is beachfront on a bay at Mismaloya. It is a 25 minute drive south of Centro PV. Fifty minutes from PVR airport. There are 3 or 4 pools including a children's pool with a built-in slide. Some staff do recreational programs in the pool area. Leading aqua fit and some games. Table tennis and large chess set by the pool. We had a deluxe suite 700 sq.feet. It was very spacious with kin [... read more]g-size bed, large walk-in shower, small sitting room plus bedroom with couch, dresser, dining table and two chairs. There is a large balcony with view of pools and ocean. There are only a few other resorts around it but there are no other facilities outside the resort. A large buffet dining room overlooks the beach and ocean, plus 3 theme restaurants ( all included in the price). We found all the staff friendly and attentive. The weather was perfect 28 degrees C average. We enjoyed our stay at Barcelo PV very much.

Crown Paradise Golden: Nice resort

We had an adventurous stay at crown paradise golden when the cartel decided to bomb the city. We never felt afraid for our safety. The staff were incredible! They rallied together and worked very hard to keep the guests comfortable. The resort is clean, the main pool was fun with activities while the rooftop pool was quiet and relaxing. The beach is swimmable with waves and little undertow. Our only complaint is the process for dining. The restaurants required a reservation process which opened  [... read more]online at 9 am and most restaurants were “full” by 9:02. Or the cite crashed. If you tried to just show up without a reservation you were turned away although the restaurant was clearly available with many tables. If you are a foodie, the food is average. For this reason alone I would not return.

Canto Del Sol: Nice resort

Grounds-Nice and kept well Public Areas-Also nice and kept well Rooms-Nice and kept well, was in a studio with kitchenette. Had problems twice with my older type safe getting it activated. Had a problem accessing my room multiple times, maintenance had to change door lock batteries and re code door multiple times. Dining-Good assortment of tasty food for breakfast, lunch and dinner (deserts need to be tastier, many had no taste to them which is constant problem in Mexico). Features- Tennis area and multiple pools (3) over three areas was very good. Beach area-not very big, ocean washed sand up against the huts on the beach Bar Lounge area-not very large and very loud once full of people and music playing, they need more lounge areas Lobby - Completely open, no closed door for security purposes. This was not good during the government shelter in place at hotel requirement. There should be a gate or door that can go across the entrance to close off to intruders. We had to shelter in our rooms. Sheraton Buganvilias Puerto Vallarta Hotel: PV a at its best Sheraton Bougainvillea

This resort more than met our expectations. There was nothing we to complain about. The location to the Malecon is walkable, food excellent,staff friendly and efficient. We swam early every morning. Received good advice re tours. We had never been to PV and will return to this hotel next year. I have already recommended it to a friend.

Barcelo Puerto Vallarta: Good all around All inclusive

Firstly the area and property of the resort and its surroundings is beautiful with mountains and jungle. The resort itself is very clean and about a 45-1hour drive from the airport. The staff is very pleasant and aim to please, David and Moses were stand outs. The reins are very large and more than you will ever need. The lunch shack with tacos and plate lunch was good and the À la Carter’s were good. This is a quieter resort with not much to do at night. The pools and wether we’re perfect. The beach was small and the bay has a ton of boats, not the nicest but it did the job. I would recommend this resort to others overall. I would rate this resort a 4 out of 5

Crown Paradise Golden: Great experience!

People were wonderful, weather was impeccable. Not the nicest resort I’ve been to but the workers were amazing with the events that happened in Puerto Vallarta. Rooftop pool was my favourite place to be!

Hacienda Buenaventura Hotel and Mexican Charm: Relaxing Resort

The rooms are great everything clean. The food and staff are amazing. Downside is the walk to the beach. Because that is what I go on vacation for. But if you like to stay at the pool, I would recommend this for you. The pool is heated you can go in early in the morning and in the evening.

Samba Vallarta: A delightful holiday

I found the grounds to be beautifully landscaped and extremely well maintained. The property was always clean and tidy. The buffet room and 2 ala carte restaurants were always spotless and food presentation excellent. My room was cleaned thoroughly everyday. Every staff member I interacted with showed me 100% great service. Their concierge, Rafael Oviedo provided top notch service to me when I approached him a few times during my stay.

Krystal Grand Puerto Vallarta: Awesome resort!

In spite of what happened here on February 22nd the staff stepped their game to accommodate all in lockdown. I felt for the staff as they couldn’t go home to their families. No complaints they took it in stride. Nicest people in the world! Never felt more safe and appreciated. Kudos to the Krystal Grand Puerto Vallarta. Excellent service from the kindest friendliest people. Thank you! ?
