Very friendly resort!

The hotel lobby is showing its age! The staff where very friendly and good was very good! Views from the hotel where amazing! A little too far out of town but cabs a reasonable! Not enough pool chairs and umbrella's unless your up at 6:00 to save a chair :( We did enjoy our stay!

Won’t go again

We felt the resort was okay, but the food was mediocre at best. The resort did a poor job of giving us much detail on where things were located and worst of all we were badgered beyond belief to attend their “time share” crap.

Great resort

We have done plenty of travel and as far as All Inclusives go this resort is great. Travelled Jan. 22 - 29, 2019. Pros; Weather stays the same 30- 34 degrees Celsius and sunny with a light breeze. Snorkel right from your own beach with a reef and all kinds of sea-life. Food was very good for an all inclusive. House wine was decent red and white. Our room was great as was the maid service. Room service was handy and decent. Preferred club gets a few perks - a la carte breakfast and lunch at Castaways and some premium drinks and snacks and in a subtle way they give you some preferential treatment without having to wear coloured wristbands. The crowd is mostly 40 plus so it isn't full of cussing and yelling spring breakers. We hired a local boat tour right on the beach and they took us on the tour right from the beach the next day. Jose L. Santiago at Calamardo Fishing and Tours is wonderful and provided us an unforgettable experience. Cons; The seating in the lounging areas are sparse and most have no backrest so not great for an older client base. Our in room air conditioner made some strange noises that woke you up often and they were unable to fix it. The mini fridge keeps drinks cool but not cold. To get ice in your room you had to call room service and it takes a half hour to arrive or doesn't arrive. The beach sand is very course and extremely hot - water shoes are very helpful. Avoid the condo and membership upsells as they will try to take up your time. Overall I think this was the best value I have received at a resort.

STUNNING VIEWS AND AMAZING WEATHER

We visited Secrets Huatulco for two weeks starting the end of December. This was our second visit to Secrets Huatulco, with our last visit being 4 years ago at the same time of year. They have a fabulous New Years Eve celebration which is one of the best we've been to at an all-inclusive resort. The resort itself is located in a beautiful cove with almost every room having a view of the beach and the view is spectacular. Although it is only a 10 minute cab ride to town, the resort has a remote [... read more] feel to it. The weather in Huatulco can't be beat. It was 30 and sunny all 14 days. The staff are super friendly and very helpful but are understaffed and run off their feet - especially noticeable around the pool and in the restaurants. Rooms are fairly large with a large bathroom area (somewhat open) and a glassed deck with unobstructed views. Super clean and not once was there anything missing, we always had clean towels, water, beer, etc. Ask for a room in one of the back buildings, top floor. Overall the food was okay but we've had better. Buffet items were often cold, especially at breakfast (we heard room service breakfast was better). There are lots of restaurant choices for dinner - our favourite was the Italian restaurant Chin Chin and next would be the French restaurant (can't remember name). Evenings can be fun with a couple of entertainment options including a live show in the theatre, or often live music in the Sky Bar. Sky Bar is where we spent most of our time meeting lots of fellow Canadians.The pools are absolutely beautiful and super big however be ready to save your chairs every morning because they fill up fast with many people saving them overnight. Same thing at the beach which is super hot if you don't get a palapa. Also note that the ocean is a bit rough some days for swimming. Although we really liked New Years Eve we did notice that the staffing, food and entertainment were somewhat better on our 2nd week of our vacation. Overall value is good for what you get and I believe its the nicest resort in the area, but not sure if I'd go back again.

Great People...Great Resort

We had an amazing time at Secrets Hualtulco. The staff was friendly and welcoming and did everything the could to make our trip great. The food at times was a little disappointing in relation to other Secrets resorts we have experienced. Once again, Felicia from Trip Central helped us to get everything organized in three short days. We love Trip Central and how easy they make everything for us.

Fantastic Views

The resort property is very scenic....the views from room, sky bar and spa area is just wow! The resort is fairly small so it’s easy to get around. It may not be a good choice for someone who has mobility issues. Pools were beautiful, we preferred the quiet pool, again with an infinity view over the bay! Lots of loungers. Beach was nice and took a walk over to the secret beach and was the only one there! Food was good, breakfast buffet was plentiful, omelet and quesadill station.  [... read more] Castaways for lunch was good with scenic views of the bay. Spice was our favourite restaurant with lots of tasty appetizers to share. Resort is very quiet - if you’re looking to party go elsewhere. Entertainment didn’t usually start until 9:30 so there could be a bit of a lull between dinner and shows. The resort and rooms itself were kept very clean but could use some upgrades, not posh but clean!

This is a fabulous Resort !!!

It was our second time back and we enjoyed it just as much as the first time !! The grounds and hotel are very well maintained !! The gardener's do an awesome job. Rooms are kept very clean ... great job by the housekeeping staff both day and turn down service !! Salvadore did a great job at the pool keeping us refreshed !!! We look forward to another return trip !!!

Average

We have been to Secrets 4 times now and on first impression, it looks a little run down as you walk in to the lobby. The pool area is great , very large pool, clean rooms and good service. The food was a little disappointing.They tried to be real fancy but the quality was not what it should be. There were some good meals but we had some real bad ones. Just like all the other times to Secrets, there were a fair number of people that got sick from the food or water at the hotel.

A really relaxing time

Secrets is a perfect spot to spend some time to rejuvenate. The restaurants are great and we never waited for a table. We found a shady spot by the pool each day without putting towels on the loungers early each morning. The resort is very clean and the staff are very happy and always willing to help or serve you.

Great vacation

We stayed in 2210 room, was fantastic. Room was clean, comfortable and the view was great. Hotel is very clean, staff cleaning always. Staff very happy! Drinks were good, food choices were great with plenty to pick from. A lot of returning guests, which speaks for itself.. Went on 2 excursion, felt very safe.

Beautifully designed resort!

The pool areas are amazing. The beachfront and water was spectacular! The French, Italian, and Japanese restaurants were wonderful. The beef served at the Castaways for dinner, and the Oceania for dinner left a lot to be desired. Disappointed that there were no "snacks" available in the bars.

Beautiful Relaxing Resort

This was our third trip to this resort and all our stays have been perfect! The views and pools are the best! Staff and service continue to be excellent and we enjoy the special treatment as a returning guest. Secrets food and service is always consistently good. We find this to be a quieter more relaxing resort to go to than some of the other busier areas in Mexico. It will continue to stay at the top of our list.

Not a 5 Star

My husband and I travelled to Secrets Huatulco from November 26 – December 2 with a group of 6 friends. Overall, our expectations at this hotel were not met. We were expecting a 5 star experience and would rate this hotel a 3.5 star. The Good: - The pool and view is absolutely gorgeous. - The view from our room was spectacular. All the rooms at this resort have a stunning ocean view. We stayed in building 5 which is on the lower level right by the pool. - The rooms were very spaciou [... read more]s and housekeeping did an excellent job maintaining the room. They always came by in the evening to do the turn down service as well. - The weather in Huatulco is VERY warm. This is the reason why the group we travelled with always goes to Huatulco. Never a cloud in the sky and plus 35 every day. - The food: o Overall, the food at the resort was good. It was not necessarily “gourmet” fine dining but it was what we expected. We highly recommend the French restaurant, Bordeaux. There were plenty of options to choose from for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We really enjoyed Castaways for lunch as the view was breathtaking and the service was exceptional. The buffet in the main lobby was one of the worst buffets I’ve ever seen. Not a large complaint as we never ate there anyways (breakfast – room service, lunch – Grill or Castaways and dinner – A La Carte). o Room service was an excellent option. The service was prompt and the food was excellent. We had coffee delivered to our room every morning. o Service and the donuts at Coco Café were amazing!! - The location: this was our first time visiting Huatulco and we really loved the location. It is very beautiful and secluded. The airport was very small which makes the check in process a lot quicker. We did not have to wait for more than 15 minutes for our luggage after we arrived to the airport. The Bad: - Check-in at his hotel was extremely disorganized. We arrived at the hotel at about 2:45pm and were told our rooms were not ready. The rooms were not available until about 3:30pm and it was only because we kept going to the lobby to ask for our room. The check-in at this hotel is at 3PM and in my opinion ALL the rooms should be ready for 2:30PM. We were told our bags would be delivered to the room. We called a number of times and were told our bags are coming. We finally went up to the lobby after an hour of waiting and found our bags were with the bags for the guests that are departing the hotel. Luckily we found our bags and brought them to our room ourselves. This left a very bad first impression. - The atmosphere at the hotel is very bland. The lobby is quite underwhelming for a 5 star hotel. I would recommend that more is done to make the hotel a little more authentic and vibrant. - The pool bar does not open until 10AM and we would generally get to the pool area by 8AM every morning. We would sometimes go to the bar to ask for water and would immediately be dismissed because they’re not open. There should be water available to guests at all time as it’s about 35 degrees. The next nearest place to get water upstairs which meant you had to travel up the stairs or take the elevator to get water. - The beach was very rough. It was not advisable to go into the ocean at all during our stay. This isn’t the hotels fault but just an FYI for anyone travelling. - Finally, 3 of the 8 people in our group got sick on this trip. One of the individuals was EXTREMELY ill from Wednesday until Sunday (the departure date). We were very concerned about how ill he was. We think he got sick at Castaways during dinner. I spoke to other hotel guests who were also very sick. The lady who was staying at the room next to ours popped a blood vessel in her eye from vomiting. She also said she began to feel ill after she had dinner at Castaways. Overall, the hotel has the potential to be a 5 star hotel. We loved the location and will be returning to Huatulco but will likely not return to Secrets until improvements are made.

Great Hotel

Everything about this property was wonderful. Food, staff, pools and rooms were all great. Will definitely return to Secrets. Tours were reasonable and quite good. Beach was a little rough and the sand was grainey.

Amazing vacation.

Very nice resort, the food, drinks and staff were all wonderful. Our room was nice and comfortable and the maid did a great job. The pool area was really good and huge. Lots of places to sit and lots of areas to get something to eat. Nice private beach. Sand was a little hard to walk on, but nice just the same. Hautulco is a beautiful area.

Five Star All the Way!

Secrets in Huatulco has beautiful views from every level. The restaurants deliver five star, gourmet dining. The staff throughout the resort are friendly and clearly enjoy interacting with the guests. Events are fun with the Entertainment staff joining in with their antics. Could not have asked for more!

Beautiful Resort

First time staying in an Adult only resort and loved it. Going there in November seemed to be quieter or less busy as well. Pools and beach (bay) were pretty spectacular. Resort employees were very friendly and accommodating. Lots of restaurant choices and no reservations needed. Shopping on site for last minute items before heading home.

Extraordinary service for the price

the hotel is set in attractive, though not extensive grounds, and includes a delightful birdwatching garden. on a steep hillside [though plenty of elevators] it has great views over the ' bay of rabbits ' and wide sandy beach. though the water is often rough, the aquatic staff [ plenty of them ] are prepared to tough it out. in the hotel, the staff are extremely courteous and helpful. i liked the 'just turn up' policy for the a la carte restaurants - and we were most impressed by the mexican r [... read more]estaurant - excellent oaxacan specialities. castaways restaurant, away from the main site, was excellent for lunch, and has the best views on the property. we only tended to use the 'sky bar' on the bridge between the main area and the elevators to the pools. again, spectacular views. we went with air canada vacations, and booked all our excursions through the local agent. most were interesting, but often involved grueling minibus jouneys. we found that the tour company ac used, xpert travel, has smaller groups, but each time we were the only gringos, which added to the interest. we didn't take the city tour, since we found we could take a taxi to crucetita for 70 pesos [$5] for 2 and wander around at will. the main church in town is definitely worth a look. although this time of year is the dry season, and the hillsides are mainly brown, most public areas in the region and the highway to the hotel have been landscaped and are well watered, making it most pleasant. we are seriously contemplating returning at the end of the rainy season!

Amazing Resort and Staff

We traveled to Secrets with two other couples April 10 - 17. I think everyone would agree it was great. Our room was so nice and clean with a great view of the ocean. All resort areas kept so clean. Staff was great.

Enjoyable resort ...

Hotel: Very satisfied. Well laid out and easy get around based on the size of the hotel. Great views. Rooms: Bright and very clean.Would try next time to possibly upgrade room to higher level because of noise from the open air bar,and also for a better view. We were on level 4 with a jacuzzi tub. Food: Very good including room service. Would be nice like most resorts where the Market Cafe would be open for supper. A lot of people we spoke to felt the same way.There were several restaurants to choose from and we never had to wait in line or book reservations. Not a great selection of "premium" liquor at the bars or if available would run out. Staff: Quite pleasant, extremely helpful and very hardworking. Beach: Beautiful views.Sand very "coarse" and difficult to walk on or swim. Did not see anyone swimming.From the previous reviews we read, we did expect this. Pools well laid out and no problem getting chairs. Location: Pleasantly surprised how nice the surrounding area was including the infrastructure.Went to town and enjoyed it very much. Felt safe and not pressured by local vendors. Weather: Fabulous. Sun every day, not a drop of rain (went thru a lot of "sunscreen") Sunwing: Angry customers on the last day....The Sunwing representative at the resort was one of those people whom you hardly saw and when you did always seemed to be in a hurry to be someplace else.On the day of departure there were delays because of the "ice storm" in Toronto.We were quite aware of this thru social media and understood the chance of delays.The problem was the Sunwing representative was nowhere to be found and the info in the binder at his desk was not changed until noon (we were to leave the resort at 10:30 am to go to airport).This caused a lot of frustration and angered many people.Someone said a "new" Sunwing rep did appear for a short period of time but was very inexperienced as to what was going on.We finally boarded the aircraft at midnight to head home.The pilot was concerned as to whether we had been waiting in the airport that whole time or if we were at the resort. He was genuinely quite concerned for the passengers.I think most people could have dealt with the delays, but not having a "Sunwing" rep on site made many people very unhappy.Fortunately we were able to stay at the resort all day rather than being stuck at the Airport. We were given vouchers at the Airport for food and a small discount off future travel.The hotel staff were very helpful during this delay and answered many questions because the was no representation from Sunwing. Most people we spoke with seemed to really like the Hotel. Just a few minor changes or upgrades would put it over the top....
