Very nice

Knowing that Covid has been a problem for the past 2 1/2 years in the travel and tourism industry along with all other sectors of our economy and still not over, I prepared myself to not expect too much. So when I arrived I must say it was a very nice hotel. The service was excellent, the food was okay but not a whole lot compared to pre-pandemic times. Disappointment

The resort grounds were nice and the beaches were beautiful. The rooms were disgusting. The blankets were dirty and smelt. The beach towels were being rationed and when I finally got one, it smelt bad, it had obviously not been washed, just dried after someone else had used it. The service was not good, staff constantly asked for tips.

Best resort in Cuba

This is our second stay at Playa Vista Azul. The staff are amazing, the service is top notch! The food is the best in Cuba. There are 2 beautiful beaches. Highly recommend upgrading to privilege you get premium alcohol selection with your own beautiful bar pool side. Better food choices aswell. The resort is very close to Varadero town too. The only con I would say is the beds are on the harder side but after a day of sun and beach we crashed pretty easily.

So, so

The Azul Vista was a moderate resort. Quite large but needs updating. The very large jacuzzi isn't hot water and not all the jets work. The large swimming pool had a fantastic waterfall but again it doesn't work. It's a kid friendly resort but has no activities for the wee ones. The food at the one Ala carte we went to (Italian) was yummy. The buffet was always plentiful, hot and had many choices. Our room area was large as was our shower. Your ac is controlled by a thermostat that shuts off whe [... read more]never you open your patio door, so always remember to close the door. There is no phone in the rooms, something we found odd. The staff are helpful and courteous. The WIFI was frustrating. It shut off constantly and at times it had to be reconnected by going to the front desk. The sunsets were breath taking. We had 10 glorious days of nothing but sunshine and come dusk the sun sets on the ocean. Just stunning. We took a tour in a classic car with an English speaking tour guide to Havana. I highly recommend taking a day and doing this. We've been many, many times to Havana and no matter how many times we go, we always fall in love again with this historic city.

Needs some updating

The hotel was filled with children. Many were very well behaved. Congrats to those parents however the resort might want to adapt to entertain the kids more. There is honestly nothing for them to do except play in the pool. The beaches aren't the nicest. Too much coral and shells. There are 2 beaches. A smaller and larger one. We didn't like either. It was a very long walk, or short drive to the larger beach and then a precarious set of steps down. No bathroom facilities at the larger beach. Th [... read more]e smaller beach has a bathroom, buffet (very small) and bar. The beach is slanted so your beach chair is always leaning. Not comfy. The sun sets on the beach and is quite spectacular. We had no rain any of the 10 days. The food was pretty good for Cuba. Lots of varieties. The al carte (Italian) was the only one we went to and it was yummy. The bedrooms are lovely. Very large shower, great water pressure and temperature. Your ac is controlled by a thermostat that shuts off whenever you open your patio doors. So remember to always close your door. We booked bungalow 7 and it was close to the buffet and the pool. It's a great set up. All in all it's a resort with possibilities but needs to be fixed and updated. There is a very large jazzuci but the pool people need to turn it on and they need to be reminded..daily!! The jets don't all work and it's not hot water. Also the pool has a fantastic waterfall that again is broken and never worked.

A GREAT VACATION

The resort is listed as a 4 1/2 star resort (even if the resort states 5 star). Don't be fooled, it's good either way. We have been to Cuba 11 times from Holguin to Havana and never stayed at the same resort twice. There are some resorts we would return to and this is certainly one of them. The hospitality from the front desk, maid service, restaurant servers, pool and site bars and including the entertainment was great. There were 3 ala carte restaurants but we didn't take advantage of them but [... read more] we heard good things. We seemed to more than happy with the buffet meals offered. The only thing we missed was the butter, there was none available and it was due to supply issues. Our friends stayed at another resort the same week and on had butter available during the breakfast meals; we survived. The two beaches available were most enjoyable; one is closer than the other and easier to get to but the further beach had a BBQ at 1pm everyday which was excellent. There is a restaurant and bar at the closer beach also very good. The grounds and pool are well maintained and Victor and Livia at the swim up will take good care of you and always seem to be in a great mood. So much fun!

We had a fantastic holiday! We had been to the same resort January 2020. Most of the same staff. They are fantastic! Lulu, Junior and Carlos make the trip one to remember.They keep you activated and having a fun time. Entertainment nights were amazing. My husband loved rock and roll night. Food was great and lots of it. Beaches are breathtaking. The change was how happy the staff was. Head of customer relations was very rude. Everyone else was amazing. Cleanliness of the hotel has gone down the [... read more] tubes. The rooms need updating already. Looks like a hurricane wrecked the wood in the main Floor rooms. We couldn’t shut any drawers. The maids clean to make it look clean but they don’t clean surfaces. Small amount of cockroaches but nothing to ruin the trip. We had an awesome time and would recommend this resort. I hope they change the customer relations agent. I had to go in there to confirm a repeat guest invitation to Neptune and was treated rudely. Other than that we loved our trip!

Breathtaking!

We cannot say enough wonderful things about this resort, staff and beach! So to start, we arrived on February 21 for 14 nights. We booked Premium Oceanfront, and would not go any other way than Premium. We were warmly welcomed by the staff in the Premium section and given all the details of our room. We were then escorted by Louis Miguel to our room. He was super friendly and helpful. Our room was absolutely perfect. Room 1318, overlooking the infinity pool and ocean. Super quiet, almost  [... read more]soundproof room and the air conditioning worked REALLY well. We had to turn it off at night! The water pressure was great, and lots of hot water. Our private balcony was spacious and comfortable. We were fortunate to get an a la carte the first night at the Coral. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive and the food was delicious. During our stay we did not go to the Buffet once. We ate breakfast and lunch at the Neptune because it overlooked the ocean and the staff were amazing! We always at outside at the Neptune to take in the view! An extra special thank you to Aylen, Jennifer, Claudia, Daniella and Lozamio. We did try the Beach BBQ once and it was delicious. We spent our days at the activities beach, so did not try the outdoor beach buffet on the beach to the left of the resort. We did go to the Main Pool to have a burger one day and the service was great and the food was really good! We tried every a la carte and enjoyed each one, but our favourite was the Boca Marina - Cuban, for the outstanding and friendly service by Yaime, Milexy, Amalia and Doralys! You were fabulous! These ladies interacted with us which we feel is important. The food at each a la carte was really very good. We were impressed and tried to choose different things on the menu each time. The soups and their buns were scrumptious! We were not disappointed in the food, and always found lots that we loved. We like red wine, and found the red wine (Premium) to be quite good. The service in the lounge area, superb, the lovely piano man and violin girl - WOW! The staff at the Premium Lounge were exceptional, welcoming and funny! Now, our maid, Doralis, oh my, she was so funny, and always had us smiling or laughing at her towel/blanket creations. Our room was always done before lunch, and our mini bar was stocked by lunch. They never missed a day, they were always on schedule, the room was spotless. Now for the BEACH - the VIEW - it took my breath away every time I stepped into the water, or opened the curtains in the morning! The beach had no seaweed, it was clean, gorgeous! We spent most of our time in the ocean! The activities staff were so fun and professional. I tried aqua gym and the stretching. Loved both! They always interacted with the guests, getting them to get up and get moving!!! (Ladies don't be lazy! or you're in Cuba, you don't sleep in Cuba!) Another special thank you to Alberto, our beach man who got loungers for people, or brought trays of beer. You always had a smile for everyone. We looked forward to seeing you each day. You can use the paddle boats, kayaks, or get taken out on the catamarans at the beach. We went in the Infinity Pool and the Premium Pool and found them both lovely and clean. We did not swim in the Main Pool but loved the music and activities they held while we walked by. It was also so pretty at night with the color changing lights. I tried the salon at the resort. For $15.00 US I had a manicure and pedicure. It took over an hour, an hour spent with the lovely Solema. I would recommend going to the SPA for sure! The other ladies at the spa were super friendly too! AND...the old cars, the taxis they have. It was like stepping back in time. We had the best taxi drivers, one favourite was the man that took us in the 1949 Pontiac. He has had this car for 8 years. Best experience and time spent with him. We wished we got his name. Each time you booked a taxi you didn't know what car you would get! We walked on the beach to the Plaza America. It took us 20 minutes which we would only do in the morning as it gets too hot later in the day! There are some lovely shops and a Pizza restaurant on the top floor. You can also buy cigars and nice wine in one shop at this mall. We took taxis into the Flea Markets twice and found lots of treasures. The vendors were friendly, not pushy and very proud of their items. Again, we do this in the mornings, and back to the beach by lunch! We did one excursion through our fabulous Sunwing Rep (Myknee). It was the Cuban Sugarcane, Rum, Cigar and Coffee day. We highly recommend this one. So much history and well worth the money spent. A full day from 8:15 AM - 6:15 PM. We had Joe as our guide and Alex our driver. We learned so much and had the best day. $115.00(Can) per person, included lunch with a beer, a cigar each and a bottle of rum each! Special mention about Sunwing - from start to finish they were EXCEPTIONAL! Coffee at the resort is the best, they make one cup at a time, made with great care. There is Benny's Cafe on site where you can get many special coffees, hot or cold! I wish I got the names of all the staff that made each day so special, but we thank you all. (We will just be back next year to see you again!) We were always greeted with a smile and well taken care of. Thank you to all the Premium staff for your wonderful service and always getting the a la carte we wanted each night. If there was anything that I could recommend here, it might be a bit better lighting on the paths at night. It was a little dark. We also found it was dark on the stairs and in the hallways. Maybe a few more lights.... Also, the beach and plastic/litter. It blows up against the back of the beach. It might be nice to have more garbage cans or someone taking care to pick up the garbage. We are already looking to come back here next year! We love the Cuban people, the amazing beaches, the wood/leather they make, the staff at the resort and just being in your wonderful country. We are so grateful we were able to travel and experience all that you have to offer. With heartfelt thanks, we hope to see you all next year!

Great resort ... but..

Great stsff and location , great beaches , the food is average for Cuba . It's very frustrating because it could be a place I would frequent but I will not return because they do not put any effort into cleaning ! And because of this there ate cockroaches at the restaurants , on the buffet and at the bar . The public washrooms are never clean.

Playa Vista Azul

Found everything to be excellent Third trip and we will be back. Staff were outstanding---we had upgraded room etc. and it was well worth the money. Pizza at poolside was especially enjoyable. Carlos at the pool bar was fun and very competent. His KISS ME drink was special.

Exceeded expectation

My hubby and I booked a ‘mini vacay’ for 4 days from February 27th to March 3rd/23. We just needed a moment away together~ to regain peace. I had no expectations going to Playa Vista Azul in Varadero~ but what we experienced was an amazing, beautiful resort nestled on stunning teal waters. The staff are outstanding from our check-in, to the waitstaff at Neptune, and the incredibly skilled bartenders. Fantastic Resort

This resort was very nice and the service was over the top.As expected there were a few shortages but nothing to dampen our holiday. Rooms were ok and our view was magnificent, staff went out of their way to please everyone. The grounds are average but the cleanliness was evident we had a group of ten people and some had been there several times overall a great resort .

Amazing resort!

Beautiful people and resort. Grounds are well kept and so is your room! Pools and beaches are stunning 💕 Always feel so safe in Cuba 🇨🇺 Not so fond of the currency of USD being pushed though! Would highly recommend🥰

Very nice resort

the staff were all helpful and the rooms were very clean and comfortable. Sometimes there was a shortage of toilet paper but we had brought some as this was a problem in other island resorts. The entertainment was really good and we definitely had lots to eat. the grounds were Immaculate, and the pool was beautiful. The Alacarte restaurants were difficult to get into unless you were vip but we managed to go to a few. we enjoyed our holiday at Playa Vista Azul

Fantastic resort

The public area and the bar has lots of room for guests to sit. I absolutely loved the seating area by the infinity pool. The view was amazing during day and at sunset. We got to stay in the four room villas with the ocean view. Absolutely perfect. The room was very clean and modern with big bathroom. Buffet had lots of food options and I loved all those fresh fruits every day. Beaches to the left and right of the resort were stunning, lots of things to do there. I would go again

Initially upset because our room was not stocked with any towels or drinking water, we had to ask. They are skimpy with the toilet paper but did usually get one roll per day which was enough as we were not in the room much. Check public bathrooms for toilet paper before you sit down! Don't go to the waffle/ pancake bar as the guy is supper slow. The restaurant staff and bar tenders were friendly and efficient. One night though at the romantic restaurant we waited 1.5 hours for the meal and it wa [... read more]s cold and supper salty. The 1st time we ate there it was fantastic. All in all though...we enjoyed this resort and the service. I would go there again.

Better than expected

playa Vista Azul was way better than what we expected after reading some of the reviews The grounds were always cleaned even after everyone would throw there cig buts every where rooms were good always cleaned there was no shortage of food and a good selection service was excellent beach was amazing would return anytime and recommend

Nice Resort

Overall we were satisfied with the Hotel, the staff, the property and the Ocean. However there is always room for improvement. You can always find fault if you want to. We have been to Cuba eight times and every resort has had similar area’s for improvement. Playa. vista Azul was not the best we’ve stayed and not the worst. It is a reasonably priced Resort, with clean Rooms. Some minor problems we encountered were that our card swipes did not work a few times and had to go to the Front De [... read more]sk to get them reprogrammed and we were on the fourth floor and the elevator did not work. We did not get a bottle of water until the third day even after going to guest services. The wifi did not work half the time and the television did not work for the entire week. The front desk told me that none of the televisions were working. Some Hotel staff were rude when we inquired about some of these issues. The food was ok but there was no Pasta at all.

Playa Vista Azul

Wonderful stay at Hotel Playa Vista Azul. Beautiful views of the ocean from lobby infinity pool and look out deck. Very clean well maintained hotel. Service was great very friendly staff along with the grounds keepers, everyone is smiling and willing to help or have conversation. A la carte restaurants although very hard to get into without being "premium" members the food was great. Buffet was always clean and stocked, variety was okay it feeds you for 7 days. Pools we clean not enough lounger [... read more]s unless reserving them with your towels at 7am, jacuzzi was cold, jets functioned but if it were heated we would have spent more time relaxing there after busy days of walking downtown varadero. Beaches were also very well maintained plenty of loungers here but little tiki huts are too close together and vert short making it confined to your neighbor loungers and hazards for eyes and head. The beach entertainment was fun and well entertaining. The night entertainment was great as well. Over all would most definitely be back to this hotel

Wonderful vaca

We went for relaxation and that we found!!! The hotel is very clean and spacious, the gardeners are working very hard all the time. Our room was cleaned immaculately daily…lots of water and toilette paper. The beach is amazing, right beach very large and lots of chairs and palapas, bbq daily mmmm very good (smoked ribs, wings etc).
