Good relaxing vacation overall. Antigua airport is modern and efficient, lush greenery but not alot of flowers and locals are aloof but mostly polite (not gregarious like some islands). Weather was perfect and the sun is INTENSE!
The resort has an odd long skinny layout but the footprint is compact and very walkable. The beach was lovely, a small crescent about 10 minutes walking end-to-end with soft golden sand, clear calm turquoise water and lots of fish.
The room was comfortable and clean b[... read more]ut not oversized and soundproofing could be better. No bathtub. Upgrading to the bay/water view was worth it to people watch from the balcony.
Food was consistently good (not great) but fruit was disappointing and I missed not having a teppanyaki a la carte.
BUT even though I enjoyed my stay, I wouldn’t go back because public washrooms in the beach and restaurant areas were broken and out of service every day in one or multiple areas. Simply unacceptable for what’s advertised as a 5-star resort (but really 4).

Still like the Royalton -

Very nice resort
Overall it was very nice. We stayed at the Royalton in St.Lucia and Jamaica previous years and we liked them better than this one. While Antigua was very nice it wasn't at the same standard as the others. The room was not as nice, no big shower or Jacuzzi in the room like the other Royaltons but still nice. This was also the first time in 13 years of going to the Caribean for our anniversary that there was no acknowledgement of any kind. A bit of a disappointment as they did mention to us a coup[... read more]le times before the day that they were aware. The staff was very friendly and always said hello. Also missed not having the Japanese restaurant. The food was excellent but we were looking forward to a teppanyaki meal. Beach was beautiful and always had lounge chairs available. This is still a great resort but not quite to the standard of the others we've been to.

Very Nice Resort
We were very excited to travel to Antigua as we had never been here before. We chose the Royalton and were excited but concerned due to previous reviews. I would like to say I wonder who wrote those reviews. We were very pleased with everything from the moment we arrived. We were greeted warmly and checked in very efficiently. The grounds were lovely. Everything was very clean. The rooms were very well appointed and the view from our room was great. The staff was excellent. They took gr[... read more]eat care of us and assisted with anything we needed. The restaurants were also very good. We did not have to wait and we had great service at all of them right down to the buffet. There were plenty of chairs by the pool or on the beach. We did rent the cabana's for the week and it was so worth it. We were spoiled by the service of Sean, Joshua and the grill master Cecila. Would definitely recommend this resort you won't be disappointed.

DIAMOND CLUB
The Royalton Antigua is a wonderful destination. The beach is beautiful, the restaurants are very good, the service is excellent. A word of advice: if you are booked in Diamond Club sit down with your butler and have a conversation of what your expectations are! If you do not have this conversation you will get nothing.
With that said, we had a wonderful time here and the service from our butler was good.

Has great potential!
The hotel, rooms, location and beach were great! The beach was clean and the water was absolutely beautiful. We travelled as a group of 20 for a 25 year reunion. Having visited 2 other Royalton properties in the past (St. Lucia and Cancun) with exceptional experiences we had high hopes for this new Royalton resort being the right choice for our gathering. Although the facilities were very nice, service and food were far below our experience at the other Royalton properties. The buffet was reliab[... read more]le and generally delicious. The ala carte restaurants were generally lack lustre. Steaks were generally tough and over cooked and service was spotty at best and wait times quite long. Surf and Turf at the sea food restaurant included 4 small shrimp and 3 little pieces of dried out beef on a skewer. On more than one occasion restaurants ran out of items and the beach bar ran out of certain alcohols, mixers and even beer! Several people in our group up-graded to Diamond Club and the general consensus was that "it was not worth it." The Diamond club areas can and were easily accessed by all guests and service in these areas was no better than the rest of the resort. Our first two days in the Diamond Club beach area were unfortunately very disappointing from a service perspective. Not once were we asked if we would like drinks, we only saw a staff member collecting empty cups once and were forced to go to the bar area to get our own beverages. This really isn't acceptable for an all inclusive "5 star" hotel and most certainly not acceptable for the Diamond Club area of the resort. It should be noted that there did not appear to be a shortage of employees on the property... it simply appeared that they were more interested in talking amongst themselves and looking at their phones rather than attending to guests. There certainly were a few star employees. One example was an excellent waitress at the sports bar who was doing everything in her power to make our 2 hour wait for finger foods such as chicken wings at lunch time pass. She was obviously frustrated with the kitchen staff letting her down when there were very few guests in the restaurant at the time. Unfortunately, we cannot in good conscience recommend this Royalton property at this time. Visit their St . Lucia property instead...it was a night and day experience!

Needs some work
The resort was beautiful! The grounds, rooms, pools etc were well kept, nice and clean. The food at the buffet was always good, but unfortunately it was just ok at the other restaurants. The biggest problem was the wait time at the restaurants. Seven of us went to the Score restaurant for lunch one day and I waited an hour and a half for a quesadilla, and others waited two hours for their wings. The overall service was mediocre, some staff were great but generally their was no desire to be accom[... read more]modating. (compared to the other Royaltons we've been too.) We were with a large group, so that did make some things more challenging, but we still had a great time. I think in a couple of years this resort will be great.

Potential
Grounds were clean and well maintained. Our room didn’t get cleaned one day, even after letting the person at the desk know. There were plenty of staff but many didn’t do much. They were friendly but the level of service should have been higher. The food at the buffet was excellent but very poor food with very slow service at the a la Carte restaurants.

Beautiful 5 star resort
We upgraded to the diamond club and the butler service alone was worth it. Thanks to Tony, Samoy and special K for excellent customer service. They take care of any request you may have.
Food was Excellent. Rooms were spotless, beds very comfortable. The entire resort is kept spotless. The ocean is Crystal clear and the beach has powder white sand. Nice size beach for walking and sea shell hunting.
We had some excellent customer service but also some very poor customer service. As a newish [... read more]resort it is obvious they are still weeding out the sub standard employees. We were asked for our feedback several times so they are working on fine tuning service.Don't let that deter you 5 star resort loved it.

Royalton Antigua
Although our stay was the beginning of May and we expected things to not be completed as we were warned ahead of time, we didn't quite expect our stay to turn out the way that it did. We had many issues during our stay, and to this day they haven't been resolved. The resort definitely has potential, the staff was extraordinary and extremely polite. Communications at this resort are very poor, management needs some serious work on customer service skills. We made the most of our first Mother/daug[... read more]hter's trip even though the resort was FAR from 5* which we were expecting. The minor things that we were told about prior to travel that could be overlooked and accepted did not include the loud construction right outside of our room, an inaccessible patio due to construction dust and workers constantly starring, the view of the mountain which also included construction workers, johnny on the spots and all construction tools/equipment. brown water, no hydro, no maid service, 2-4 hour waits for dinner, bars not being re-stocked which led to limited drink service, beach umbrellas that weren't properly anchored in the sand which led to injuries on windy days to name a few. The resort definitely had it's perks and I am sure the longer they are open the more things will be perfected and it will be a beautiful 5*

Royalton resort that is getting better everyday
With all of the negative reviews we were very hesitate to go to the Royalton Antigua. Thankfully we didn't listen to those individuals who were upset as we had a great time. As a new hotel they seem to be doing very well with how they are managing all of the growing pains. They were ready to listen to my feedback and I believe they want to get it all right.
My biggest issue was a few members of there staff. We seemed to be a bother and were downright rude. Again, this is a handful of individu[... read more]als but it does hurt the Royalton brand so hopefully they take care of it.
The majority of the staff are amazing and our butlers were out of this world. Kanna and Khem made sure we had everything we could ever want. These two individuals are a huge asset to Royalton and made are vacation a treat. We felt the money we spent on Diamond Club was well worth it and enjoyed all of the perks that went along with it.
If you have an open mind and can handle the odd hiccup book this place and enjoy the amazing amenities and incredible beach. I would go back next week if I could.
Worst part of the trip was Sunwing changing are direct flight where we had to go to Montreal to pick up passengers first. It added about 2 and half hours to our trip. I hope to never fly Sunwing again in my life.

Good time
Very new and being worked on has I write this! Beautiful beach and pools and very friendly staff . All new plantings and grass needs some time to mature but tastefully done . Restaurants were located close to rooms and on the beach dining. And over water bungalows will be spectacular
