Very disappointing Resort, I would not recommend.

Dec 21-29th-First rooms: 1108 &1110- there was no air conditioning and hot water at all first night. Rooms were VERY run down, like a cheap motel.Next morning switched rooms to 126 and 228, near parking lot. Doors were scratched up and beaten up, no added security latch on door. Every night people were swearing and banging on doors, waking guests up. Couldn't get reservations for a single A la Carte until our 6th night, the young man who made bookings was VERY RUDE AND UNPROFESSIONAL TO ALL GU [... read more]ESTS who requested an la carte. Grounds were clean, buffet was basic. This was a very disappointing Resort and I strongly advise Trip Central and Air Transat to not recommend this resort to anyone

Great value for money

The resort - pleasantly surprised given reviews we were reading! Definitely worth the money - room was nice but wifi didn't work in room. Mostly worked well elsewhere - shows in the theatre were well produced (if not a tad cheesy) - I was happy we upgraded to Privilege - gave us passes to the spa (really nice), a la carte restaurant, a bar just for us, better room - pools were really fun and everyone was chatty and friendly - beach isn't the greatest (rocky, seaweed), we didn't hang out [... read more] there - bars are only open till 11pm so limited nightlife - food isn't great but there's lots of options and always something to eat. some exceptions include tacos that were served poolside one day and the Japanese restaurant; BLoved was great one night, ok the next. - staff was all amazing - our travel back to the Cancun airport was scheduled 6 hours before our flight so that kind of sucked - dont be hesitant to leave the resort and explore - lots of great bars and restaurants in the little community that are easy to walk to. Cabs to Playa Del Carmen are easy to catch, no issues with payment. Travelling during covid - if you aren't tech savvy, i don't know how you would have made it through the process of travelling during covid - mexico didn't check vaccine passports at all - go to Pearson a bit earlier than you normally would because line-ups were long - Cancun airport was pretty manageable - lots of people but lines moved quickly - PCR tests were done at the resort - quite an efficient process. You need to pay in cash (pesos or USD) - one of us was selected for a covid test at Pearson, which was pretty quick (maybe 20-30 min). Results came back in just over 24 hours. - tips: register for switch health in advance if you can (the company that did the covid testing at Pearson - got the shorter line as a result); download arrivecan ahead of time and add your vaccine passport. There's a form to fill out when you arrive in Mexico but you can only do it 12 hours before arrival and since we had an early flight, most didn't get a chance to do it. We figured it out once we got there. -staff at resort all wore masks consistently. they took our temperatures at the buffet (but no where else)

Mixed feelings

Food was great, but unless you have a “privileged” room, you can’t use some of the bars or restaurants. And it was so busy that when we tried to book the ala cart dinners, there were none available so we had to eat at the same buffet every day. The staff were semi-friendly but not overly friendly. The rooms were okay but the bed was very uncomfortable, so bad sleeps and they started doing construction at 7:30am one morning. The beach was rocky and awful. The sand by the volleyball wasn’t [... read more] soft or deep enough. A number of people were hurt and bleeding. We also asked around for a bottled water and no one would give us any. They didn’t replace them in our fridge. Also the bars close right at 11pm and don’t open until 11am. The entertainment was poor and short…one night only half hour. I will not be recommending this place to anyone. I would highly recommend they consider changing the language from “privileged”. It is offensive.

Great resort, very relaxing, some concerns

My girlfriend and I had a nice relaxing time a tthis resort. It is very lovely and was a great value for the area. we both had a couple things we would highlite Her: - food was great, healthy and delicious options - getting access to the ala carte was very competative. you need to reserve everything as soon as you get there or you're out of luck - There was no Wifi in the room, there is sections and rooms that do have wifi but not some of the rooms further from the main buildings, [... read more] we really needed the wifi and had none. - Air conditioning didnt go as low as she likes Him: - can only get drinks from 11am to 11pm who closes the bar at 11pm!!!! I know they wanted my tips why cant I give them my money! - resort basiclly goes to sleep at 11pm, but this is most likely what you want if you are a family, its not what I wanted though Conclusion: - I cant go back here despite the fact its actually a great resort, I just wanted different things from my vacation,. I would say its great though for families and people who like to go to bed early. It really really really needs to buy some more wifi extenders. such an easy fix.

If beach is important to you, find another resort

The resort is a long way from airport and is rather small. Nowhere to take a walk. The beach is next to the pool where all the activities (talking/loud music/silly games) are, so no peace. There is just a small window of opportunity to enter the ocean on sand, with no rocks. We paid for the "privilege" package and our room was great and we also received a bottle of champagne, chocolates and fruit as a welcome gift. Our room was close to one of the bars where they had live loud music late into the night. The back door had a broken lock, never got repaired. Lots of COVID precautions, constant cleaning, painting etc, good measures. When we left, the minibus took us to the airport with 4.5 hours before our flight. They didn't check that the flight was delayed an hour, so we spent 4 hours there, so much fun! Food is ok, the restaurants were good, we enjoyed the experience.

Excellent resort for the value

This was my second time there and most times your second time turns out to be not as good as the first but it was the opposite great time and the workers from the door men to bar tenders to the entertainment girls and guys they were great and amazing respect for me and other guests at the hotel. There are no complaints on food every place l went was excellent. I was there for a few pool parties and the celebration for there 200 anniversary of being independent country and it was great to see the [... read more] islanders celebrate there independence. I would like to say thank you to ladies who clean every day rooms, Also when ever i had question the front staff took care of everything. So many smiles :)

I thought that Catalonia Riviera Maya resort was absolutely picture perfect and amazing. Everyone always had the biggest smiles and were so friendly and welcoming. I had an amazing stay here. Food, entertainment and good times was absolutely in abundance. Everything was clean and inviting. If I had to critique one thing it was that our room was really warm and seemed that the air conditioning was not working very well. Had a great time

Everything was well kept, the staff treated us like royalty. Its a smaller resort so there was a touch of closeness yet there was plenty to do matching any larger resort. Ocean was kept clean and there is a lagoon close by where one can snorkel for free with lots to see.

Fantastic Time at the Catalonia!

We stayed for 10 days and enjoyed every day! Food was great, including restaurants and buffets. Our room was amazing! Shout out to Amanda in housekeeping; Alejandro at the front desk, Antonio and all pool entertainment staff, waiter Bernardino at the El Marcado buffet restaurant! Enjoyed the kayaks and spa. Loved the Puerto Adventurous area! Felt at home the entire time. Planning to return!

A week at Catalonia Riviera Maya

A solid trip; great food (minus no ground beef tacos) friendly staff, clean pools, great animation staff (shout out to Migel) well kept grounds and a fairly decent beach. This is a decent 4 star hotel that was worth the price paid. Would recommend! Note to management : need more sour cream, lack of beef burritos / tacos was a disappointment, ketchup sub par, overhearing in the theatre/bar & surrounding area - it gets hot!

Winter Getaway 2020!

Had an amazing time at this resort! Rooms were modern, staff very friendly and food was good. Recommend booking privileged so you get the upgraded room, access to the restaurant B Loved for lunch and breakfast so you don’t have to eat at the buffet and 5 a la cartes instead of 4. The beach was good enough not the best beach I have seen but it was perfect for my 6 year old as it is a little cove that has barriers to keep big waves away! Great bang for your buck !

The restaurants, rooms, disco and bars were all nice. Food at the specialty restaurants was amazing (other than Bloved - we thought it was gross and couldn't believe it was an extra charge for some rooms) The beach was very quiet and relaxing, and the views were awesome. Great staff ! Both the servers as well as the entertainers

Pretty grounds

The facade of the resort was ok, however it caters to the "privileged guests" Everywhere you went from the ala carte diners to the beach, the privileged were treated better. On the beach and in the pool area there were signs clearly posted that patrons were not to reserve chairs. That's a joke. Every chair is held by 10am, and many are left without one. The toilet seat was only held on by 1 bolt. Never fixed. Overspray from painting evident and black hand prints were just left...no effort to clean it. I guess because we are not "privileged "

Great location in Puerto Aventuras

The resort is located in an area that feels safe. The swimming pools, swim up bar and grounds are very nicely maintained. But the actual hotel could use some upgrades and the buffet restaurants are sub standard to every 'all inclusive' we have enjoyed for the past 15 years. The buffet food was the same almost every day and although there were stations of food they were limited. And the restaurants to book were not available until too late each day when travelling with kids. Making a reser [... read more]vation for the Riviera Maya did not provide rooms in that hotel but next door at the sister hotel and were low end rooms and bathrooms and beds & bedding. We left the hotel several times to eat outside of the hotel.

Family Vacation

We stayed in a 1 bedroom suite, spacious with everything we needed and a very nice big bathroom. The large balcony with outdoor tub was great! We liked all the pools, nice to be able to sit in different areas of the resort throughout our stay. We found the service and food good value for what we paid, especially the 'privilege' perks. Beach is small but nice, lots of fish that were easy to see even without snorkels. The staff in the kids club were great.

Fair resort for the price

We stayed here from December 18th through 25th. Nine people, 5 rooms. 2 privileged suite rooms, 3 privileged superior rooms. One of the privileged suite rooms needed the A/C fixed and it was dealt with fairly quickly. One of the 3 privileged superior rooms had a non functioning toilet that did not get fixed and the couple was finally relocated (twice) on the third day to a room that the A/C was called about daily. The food was good both at the buffets and a la cartes, service was excellent.  [... read more] The Bloved restaurant was thoroughly enjoyed by all. We snorkelled right at the resort daily and it was good. We did the excursion to Tulum and cenotes with snorkelling and lunch included and really enjoyed the knowledge and humour of our guides (BestDay.com tours). Unfortunately, there are not even close to enough beach chairs anywhere, not at pools, not at beach, not at privileged pool or beach. Overall we enjoyed the resort, pools and rooms were clean, food and drinks were good and plentiful. The staff were friendly and attentive.

Almost five star.

Nothing to fault other than (being over 75) having to negotiate a narrow strip of submerged rock at the beach edge. After that, swimming and snorkeling great. I just think that setting aside a beach area, a pool and restaurant for the "privileged" willing to pay extra is a bit snobbish.

Very Nice

This hotel was very nice, it lacked a cafe and more snack bars, but other then that it was great for my family. The restaurants were just ok, the buffet was way better. The beach was small but the staff were excellent.

Stunning Resort

Absolutely beautiful place to vacation. The staff were friendly and helpful. We were thrilled with the cleanliness and décor of our room. (romance privilege) The only recommendation that I could make is to have umbrellas on the terrace so that people above could not see the plunge pool. Every time we filled the pool, the people upstairs would look over to see what we were doing. It did not put a damper on our romance, but they may have seen more than they bargained for. Buffet had much to offer and a-la-carte restaurant (B-loved) was 5 diamond quality. The location was accessible to may attractions and cenotes, with shopping near by. Very nice vacaton

We stay in Catalonia Yucatan Beach Resort & Spa resort from Nov18-25/2019 and we had a very good time. resort is clean,food was good specially Japanese restaurant,Italian restaurant was good too.Check-in was easy but a little late.
