The resort was perfect! Beautiful rooms, lovely swim up pool. Amenities and service were excellent! Only drawback was that the buffet closed at 6 pm. Super clean didn’t feel concerned at all about Covid. Lovely pools and lots of spots to enjoy the beach. Would definitely go back!

Best of Barcelo
This section of the Barcelo Maya resort is far superior in all respects. The design and architectural features are superb. Pools and beach are spectacular. Rooms were large and ver comfy. King beds are supersized. Service was excellent. Food at buffet was very good and a la cartes were a real treat. Good drinks. Oceanfront room is definitely worth it. Covid tests easy to arrange. Overall a beautiful resort hotel.

Absolute luxury and top notch service!
This was hands down the most amazing resort vacation my husband and I did. We are already talking about going back! The resort its self is so stunning and modern. All the staff went above and beyond to provide the best experience possible. We loved the Mexican and taco bar restaurants the most- very authentic and so delicious.
The resort is actually perfect for covid because its so spacious and practically everything is open( even the hallways within the hotel has open areas), so there is al[... read more]ways air flow. I never felt like I had to get close to people and always felt very comfortable. We never saw any staff without a mask and everything was suer clean.
We really felt taken care of and pampered. Wonderful experience that we cannot wait to return too!

Gorgeous resort , entertainment is non existant
This was our second time staying at this beautiful property Barcelo Maya Riviera. The grounds are beautiful, the hotel is spacious clean and gorgeous. The a la carte restaurants on site can be a problem with the reservation list and trying to get in so book them as soon as you get there with guest services. There are 5 other hotels you can go to eat at and you can book the a la carte restaurants there as well which is a good thing.
The hotel entertainment is a problem at this resort. The [... read more]first time we stayed there we thought oh , it is new they will get it organized in time. Two years later the entertainment at the resort is still a problem. The entertainment seems to be mostly Mexican themed and ends at 11pm totally shut down. When you speak with other guests it is the topic of conversation. The music at the outside bar is electronic mostly, very loud and if you are not a fan it is annoying all day. Hope they get this sorted out for it is a major problem.
Staff are helpful and friendly always.

Wow! Beautiful Hotel and gorgeous location.
The Barcelo Riviera Maya was stunning! Modern, extremely clean and very spacious. It has only been opened a few months and it is well on it’s way of getting everything just right. Definitely upgrade to the Oceanfront Rooms. However unless you plan to party late in to the hours request a room that is further away from the Music Bar and Front Lobby. Although it was almost soundproof when we closed the sliding door the rhythm of the music seemed to pound in the room a bit. We couldn’t sit out o[... read more]n our balcony and have a conversation.
The Breakfast and Lunch Buffets were amazing offering anything you can imagine presented beautifully and was delicious! Staff was very attentive but at times were not quick with simple requests like tea when the self serve area was closed.
There were 4 a la carte Restaurants for dinner dining, French, Mexican, Italian and Japanese. In order to not repeat we ventured to the Barcelo Restaurants in the 5 other Hotels and found the Barcelo Palace Brassiere Restaurant to be nice but noisy with a lot of young children. Did not like any of the others.
The drinks served at the bars were great; you had several brand choices of each liquor. Disappointing was the wine selection with only one very poor quality Spanish wine being offered. Additional selections were available at a cost of approximately $100.US per bottle, at an all inclusive?
Three times we were told that a complimentary bottle of wine was going to be sent to our room for various inconvenience situations we encountered and never did they show up.
The drive from the Airport was long and some complimentary refreshments should have been served on the ride to the Hotel. In fact the same should have applied on the plane. All inclusive should be just that!!
It is a Conference Hotel so it does lack that true tropical feel but once you see the ocean and the palm tree setting of the beach you know you are in Paradise!

Great resort!
Resort was immaculate and not overly busy while we were there. There was no fighting for chairs either at the pool or beach. Great staff. Food was fantastic! Could have used some more upbeat music at the Music Bar earlier than 3:00pm but other than that no complaints!

Nice and New
Overall, this is a lovely resort. It is new and therefore, clean, sleek, modern, and large. There is a convention centre attached to this resort and while we were there - there was a pharmaceutical conference that came in for a few days. They were not disruptive, but they were noticeable in the dining room as they were a large group.
The resort has a more corporate feeling to it rather than your more traditional Mexican resorts.
Our constructive criticisms would be to explore some improvem[... read more]ents on the wines that are available. The all inclusive wine options were not that good and therefore, you have a take away of almost having had a wonderful meal, but it is marred by the poor wines that are included. You do have the option of purchasing better wines - but our expectation is that there would be some nice all included wines.
We stayed in an ocean front premium level room and if we wanted a bottle of wine in our room there would be an extra charge even though they advertise 24 room service is included. The room service is included for food or a glass of wine, not a bottle.
We are not big drinkers but premium all inclusive with a private hot tub just seems like a bottle of wine should not be a challenge.
You are limited to one towel each.
The temperature in the rooms are limited to the lowest setting of 21.5C. It felt much hotter than that in our room but there was nothing we could do about.
I understand the concept of cost controls and appreciate that there are no loud drunks at the pool so that is a good thing, however I couldn’t shake the idea that while it is advertised as an exclusive resort with a premium level, it felt like it was run by accountants trying to provide the minimum they could get away with. I believe their cost controls have crossed the border from frugal to cheap and they have lost the concept of focusing on the customer.
They have saved money by closing the main place to get lunch (only one buffet in the resort) until 12:30 every day.
They saved money by having no food or drink service at the beach.
So to the accountants, please give each other a high five for saving a $100.00 and losing a customer. Your books can only show you the profit made from the price the guest paid vs the costs they incurred. You will have no idea about the losses you will incur due to the customers you loose.

Adults Only Resort!
The facility is gorgeous and very modern, not typical Mexico at all. Everything about this place is impressive and very large. Service levels are excellent and staff aim to please. Food is outstanding both at restaurants and buffets. There is always a choice between eating outside or inside.
The rooms are spacious with good sized balconies. King bed is huge; spans 8 feet! Love the ceiling fan so one can turn off the air and sleep with open door. There are plenty of toiletries offered and a n[... read more]on-stop supply of shower gel, shampoo and conditioner.

Amazing Resort or Conference Centre
All ratings are 5 star with the exception of the resort decor. The complex has absolutely maximized the view of the ocean, pools and beach from the rooms and buffet (5*).
Room
The rooms are crisp, clean, with lots of toiletries refreshed daily with an amazing view (room 4753 - 5*). Late afternoon and evening the island of Cozumel is visable.
Food:
Food at the buffet is excellent with amazing varieties including specific sections for vegan, diabetic, gluten free (5*). Food at the La [... read more]Comedie French and La Dolce Vita were outstanding, except we got ill from the La Dolce Vita twice.
Beach:
The was kept very clean and a nice long length to walk (5*). The best area to swim was in front of the Maya Beach resort where there are no rocks. Snorkeling is best at the Maya Palace Beach, but limited and busy. There was never a problem getting lounge chairs at the Maya Riviera beach.
Pool:
The pool is awesome (5*+)! The water is a perfect temperature (February) and never crowded. The pool bars need a drink menu posted and perhaps highlight a drink of the day! Washrooms were kept very clean. Towels are readily available and don't require checking them out.
Resort:
The resort is also a conference centre and it looks like (4*). It severely lacks decor and the tropical ambiance. Perhaps it is not complete given it just opened in December 2019. The lobby bar is insanely loud and clearly need some sound absorbing material. There were no problems with check in or check out, in fact Carlos was amazing changing rooms from one near the loud music pool bar and elevator to a room in the middle of the resort with a stunning view. The wrist bands unlock the hotel room, so don't loose it or there will be a fee!
Excursions:
We booked 2 excursions. The 3 in 1 (Tulum, snorkeling and swimming in cenotes caves), we booked prior to the vacation and was the highlight of our trip. It was outstanding! The second trip we booked at the hotel through Sunwing and enjoyed a trip to Cozumel that included the Arrecifes National Park where we snorkeled, enjoyed a beautiful beach, visited the crocodiles and flamingos, and climbed the 130 steps at the lighthouse for scenic views before heading back to Cozumel for tequila tasting and shopping in the port. Lots of travel time on that excursion; didn't get back to the hotel until 9 p.m., but an enjoyable day.
Overall:
The Barcelo complex of 6 hotels has a great location (about 1 hour from Cancun airport) and ha something for everyone. The shuttle from the airport is one van that only goes to the Barcelo, so no stopping at multiple resorts. The food is excellent at all the ala cartes, the beach is awesome, the staff is very friendly, the views from the Maya Riviera resort are stunning and the pool is perfect. The resort itself just needs some personality!

New hotel
The hotel opened two months ago. Everything is new, clean, contemporary design inside and out. Great service.
As opposed to other Barcelo resorts here we did not have the stress to be in time for breakfast or lunch. When we were late at the buffet they gave us a la carte. The dinner is free at the restaurants. Strongly recommend the Japanese / best meal and the French / best service restaurants.
You need water shoes as there are corals in the water and snorkeling equipment/ lots of fish near[... read more] the shore.
On the minus side (most of them preventable) is that when we booked the room at the travel agency we asked for ocean front premium level. We did not get premium level, I should have checked as it was no mention of premium on the papers. Also the room was ocean view not ocean front. When we complained at the hotel they told us that they consider all the rooms ocean front which is not true.
The travel from the airport to the hotel was included by Sunwing. Unfortunately they put the carrier on luggage together with the large luggages and it got broken. I should have taken it with me.
When we came back from Mexico at the luggage pick up we realized that the zipper is open and a bag of cosmetics was stolen. This was my first vacation in Mexico. I will be better prepared next time as I will definitely be back.

Vegas style resort
If you like the modern minimalist look this resort is for you. The rooms are outstanding, the food is very good with lots of choice and the service is excellent and friendly. For dinner the French and Mexican restaurants are the best. Swim shoes are a must as there are lots of exposed and broken coral in the water. Lots of fish so goggles and a snorkel would be a good thing to pack.

The resort was amazing!
Resort was super clean, great staff, great food, lots to do right on the resort. The resort is fairly large so never seemed to be crowded. I would definatly recommend this resort to anyone.
One small issue would is being a adult only resort, the music that was played around the pool was more for teenagers than adults. Small issue but I would change that.

YES!
Our 5th stay at BM - first at Riviera.
A large modern facility that exceeded our expectations (considering it only opened approximately 6 weeks ago). A number of previous reviews are either referring to one of the older resorts or outdated i.e. there IS alcohol served before noon and there is free wi-fi including on the beach (but why worry about being on-line as you're supposed to be on VACATION).
Rooms are spacious with California King Bed, very comfortable mattress and humongous pillows plu[... read more]s a Jacuzzi tub on the balcony (a little cramped and low power for the jets).
Food was FANTASTIC – be it breakfast, lunch or dinner. The food selection is enormous – great for weight watchers as you can ‘watch’ your weight increase daily. Men remember trousers for dinner (I am a shorts person but nothing wrong with maintaining a high standard). Staff at all the restaurants were fantastic. What was noticeable is a lack of tippingïŒ. Come on guests …… a couple of bucks per meal is less than you pay for a coffee! Special mention: Giovanna & Benjamin at LaComedie and Alberto Lopez at Buffet Mirimar. Noticeable was a lack of Top Shelf liquor.
Staff throughout the resort were exceptional and my sincere thanks to you all.

Best Ever!
The Barcelo Maya Riviera is the best all inclusive resort we have ever stayed at. The rooms, including the bathroom, are spacious and the hot tub on the balcony is spectacular. The ocean view couldn't be any better. The breakfast and lunch buffet selections and quality are second to none ever experienced. The food and selections in the a la carte restaurants were first class (the French and Japanese were our 1st picks; the Italian disappointed however). We never had a problem booking a reservati[... read more]on for a restaurant.
The grounds, the pools, the swim up bars, all excellent. The beach was very clean. Ample beach and pool chairs.
Most impressive is the staff, no matter the venue, all very friendly and accomodating.
The perk of having access to use the other adjacent Barcelo resorts is great, particularly the additional range of other first class restaurants it offers.

Awesome time
The time we spent at Barcelo Maya Riviera was to recuperate and relax. The welcome in and reception was very pleasant and quick. A room change was effected quickly. The grounds a large and spacious, in fact the largest resort we have ever been at. The room was fantastic and very spacious. The breakfast and lunch buffet was outstanding. The food options were beyond our imagination in type and variety. The A la Cartes were of the highest standard and the service at the Riviera Maya was beyond repr[... read more]oach. The sommelier, Anna, is quite informative and approachable. However I feel she is not being employed in an effective manner. I suggest a “Dinner with Anna†be promoted. In any of the restaurants a meal for a select number of guests be formulated by the chef with Anna picking local wines to compliment it. She would explain the selections and pairings, which could lead to people trying wines from the list.

Amazing New Resort
This hotel was wonderful. From the minute we checked in we were extremely satisfied that we chose this hotel. Hector checked us in and when we told him that it was our anniversary he upgraded us to a swim up room. The room was excellent. The bed was perfect. The buffet was huge and had an endless choice of dishes. The al-a-carte restaurants were amazing with excellent food. The resort was extremely clean and well taken care of. I would highly recommend this particular hotel to anyone.
