Great Resort - It's Cuba though

Resort was great, beaches were fantastic and the water is breathtaking. Room was made up pretty good every day but not great. Food is 7/10, good but not exceptional. Resort very clean. Hard to get pool chairs though.

No bread

Hotel was really nice and service was great. But having no bread on a trip really sucks. We had bread the first two days and the first day we arrived at 11pm. After lunch on day two there was no more bread and anything good went really fast like yogurt. Getting. Cabana beside the pool required getting up at 5:00am to throw a towel down on one of the and going to the beach to save some spots there as well .

Great hotel...beach pool and service excellent

Hotel staff go out of there way to help and make sure everything is fine. Rooms are clean and new...beds are great..pillows are one large body pillow which is not ideal... small suggestion to switch them would be helpful when couples are sleeping together and toss turn etc. Food is decent...it's Cuba so limit options but you should know that going in... they had no flower the week we were here so no bread or pizza. Lots of fries and other items to fill picky eaters. I would recommend bug spray  [... read more]as noseeums (spl?) Are bad some of group got eaten alive on legs etc. Great hotel great price would recommend and hopefully small changes could make this a hidden gem!

Mixed Feelings

We spent the March Break at Grand Aston (2 kids, 2 adults). I have mixed feelings about our experience. The resort itself was new, clean, well laid out, and safe. The beach was spectacular and exactly what I had hoped for for Cuba. Then there’s the food and alcohol. The 3 buffets were the same the entire week, and we ran out of bread 4 days in. Alcohol wise, for an all inclusive, I was shocked at the limited variety of booze and mix. Every bar seemed to run out of something (or everything and close) by early afternoon, and then you’d have to walk all the way to the lobby. Mix consisted of fruit juices, orange pop, coke (only sometimes), tonic, and some powders for strawberry daquaries and pina coladas (which they rarely made for us). A lot of people have written about how great the bar tenders and staff are but that wasn’t our experience the entire time. The cleaners, gardeners, lobby bar, salon, beach bar, and activity coordinators were amazing! But the snack bar, pizza, poutine and chicken griller were less than friendly. They were selective with who they gave food to and when (maybe based on higher tips maybe?), often saying they had no food and then 1 minute later they’d give it to someone else, and it was like pulling teeth to get a drink. Then there’s the chairs… I have never been more annoyed in my life. For us, it didn’t matter what time we went to “reserve” a chair, they were all taken. The air Canada rep, the hotel staff, and the sign posted said that people cannot reserve chairs but every single morning we would get to the beach or pool and there was not a single chair left. I had skin cancer and can’t be in the sun, and I have 2 little kids, and there was nowhere to sit ever. We had to pay workers to get chairs a couple days, which is ridiculous, and then eventually we just gave up. Sometimes we would get lucky and someone would leave and we’d find some chairs. Don’t get me wrong, I did my research and I knew what I was getting into. But, for a 5-star brand new resort, I was left feeling kind of “meh” about the whole experience. I definitely would not go back but I am thankful for the memories, the beach, and the staff who were so kind and welcoming.

Best beach, crowded resort, food needs improvement.

The beach is simply the best part of this resort and area. The hotel is fairly new, very clean, easy to navigate, but seemed small for the number of tourists there -especially around the lobby bar, buffet and snack bar areas.

All in all, it's Cuba; so the lack of supplies did not scare me. I was really looking forward to enjoying this location, and I did; however, the buffet felt crowded and the line ups were painful almost at all times. The Chefs do an amazing job at making the best out of whatever little they get... I sincerely appreciate that. Their hard work does not got unnoticed, despite most people criticizing the outcome of their efforts. Peaceful Paradise in Cuba

The resort is a quick 20 minute drive from the Jardines Del Ray airport. We stayed in room 5412 and had a gorgeous view, hot water, comfortable beds, accessibility to USB plug ins. The beach is safe and shallow enough for children. It is one of the most clean, clear and pristine beaches I have seen. Shout out to Ebert and Yalainy at the beach bar, they are amazing! The service at this hotel is exceptional. Alejandro, bartender and server and the hotel gardeners treated us like family. The cons of this resort like most Cuban resorts are the food and the wait times. With that being said, we did not starve; there was always something to eat. We also were on vacation and had time to wait or would plan our meal times when it wasn’t the busiest hour. We did encounter some arrogance and hostility from the front lobby bartenders at times that was off- putting. I also would not recommend this resort if you are looking for night life.

Great Family Resort

Great family beach vacation! The beach is amazing, the most beautiful I have ever seen. Wonderful staff and very clean. The food was very good for Cuba. My kids who are very picky eaters ate all week and always found something they liked. We were at the resort during Quebec’s spring break so the resort was full and there seemed to be lacking staff at the buffet, snack bar and bars. So you needed to be patient often. The resort should really not allow people to reserve places they are not using. We saw places saved with not seeing a single person come during the whole day. Very frustrating. But I would go again, and suggest it to a friend.

Do your research

Line ups for eggs -breakfast are too long 35-45 minutes waiting for an egg . That was not a pleasant way to start yhe morning. There was bread 4 days out of 7 and the toaster does not work properly, took about 7 minutes to toast a piece of bread after waiting 20 minutes for the toaster on a average , while you wait for the bread to toast you get the evil eye from the line ups … honestly that was a deal breaker. The beac [... read more]h bar closed at 4 , and both times I asked for a mojito I was told they were out, I asked for a mojito both times around 2 pm . Staff was friendly specially the cleaning ladies . They work non stop will the managers get them some mops please!!! Unfortunately we witnessed this older gentleman screaming at the staff prior to opening the buffet at lunch time .. it made me wonder if the management needs improvement? Food was ok , but lacked in so many basic ways I get it that’s Cuba but I have had by far way better food in Cuba than at this resort. Entertainment was great . Beach stunning. Will I return to this resort? No.

Grand Aston

Beautiful grounds and beach is awesome . Waiters and waitresses are great. Food was a little lean for a couple days as they had no bread etc. but got better.this was our second time at this resort and if we go back again will book the club as it is adults only.

Beautiful beach but lines ups everywhere

Check in was suppose to be at 4pm however my room was not ready till 5pm. There was line ups everywhere for every food station and drinks also including the buffet. They need a better system absolutely ridiculous when you have to wait and hour in line ups for food. My towels were not changed only on day 6 after multiple complaints and we only had 2 towels for 3 people. I had made the front desk aware on 3 occasions until the 4th time when I became upset and finally got towels. My room was skippe [... read more]d for cleaning on 2 occasions and I was ok with this but wanted our 2 water bottles daily. When I asked the maid she said she had no water bottles left. I went and complained and sure enough I got my water bottles. Basically lied to me as i was there when she took them out of her cart. The entertainment is repetitive. No different theme for the kids disco also. Tip tip tip they will serve those who tip first. Also they need to be mindful of children and my children went several times to get drinks for themselves water and juice and told me they were always skipped and only serving adults. This is a family resort. Only 2 bathrooms that I have seen one near the lobby and the other near the towel station. Long walk when you are spending the day on the ocean to use the bathroom. Better be up at 6am to save a spot by the ocean for the shade spot or else you won’t get a spot ridiculous. People go out early AM put towels on chairs and take off for hours at a time. On a good note the beach was the most beautiful one I have ever been at. The room were nice and cool. The pools were amazing and large enough the infinity pool that it was never crowded. Fresh beach towels daily they always had some. Staff are so friendly to everyone. They always say hi acknowledge you and they are amazing with children.

Great resort would return

The resort is new and modern , very clean , the ground are beautiful and will look even better as it grows. We stayed in the club section adults only . Only shortage was bread for 2 days . Food was good . drinks and coffee were good. beach and pool great.

Beautiful Resort

The resort is beautiful and the layout was well designed. The beach was great and clean. The food was good for Cuba but the long line ups were frustrating. Some of the staff at the buffet were arrogant and rude. The drinks at the lobby bar were water down. Not enough waiters at the lobby bars at peak hours. Many times some drinks were not available due to some ingredients availability. Amazing resort

Les chambres sont grandes et très propre. Pour le lobby bar très propre aussi mais j’ai trouvé le personnel du lobby pas très aimables. Lorsque l’on allait pour un drink souvent ils nous ignoraient et fesait passer d’autres clients devant nous c’était très frustrant. La plage est exceptionnelle et les piscines très belles. Pour la nourriture cela dépends des goûts comme nous ne sommes pas difficiles la nourriture pour nous était correct.

Wonderful getaway

It was a wonderful getaway. The resort itself is beautiful, featuring a long beach ideal for leisurely walks along the shoreline. We were pleased to find the grounds exceptionally clean, with stunning blue waters perfect for swimming. To enhance the experience, it might be beneficial for the resort to implement a ticketing system for pizza orders based on party size, allowing for a more equitable distribution and ensuring everyone has the opportunity to enjoy it. We also enjoyed the excursions available, which were quite fun. However, it is worth noting that the resort is somewhat isolated from local towns, making it a bit of a trek to reach various excursion points. This is an essential consideration for guests looking to explore beyond the resort itself. The jeep excursion that navigated through small towns, providing insight into the daily lives of the Cuban people. This journey really began at a farm where we learned about cultural practices related to the harvesting of fruits, honey, and coffee. I highly recommend this experience. The catamaran excursion was equally enjoyable. We truly enjoyed our time at Grand Aston Paredon and appreciate the efforts made by the staff to create a memorable experience for all guests.

Lovely resort experience

The grounds and resort were beautiful and well kept. The staff were super friendly. Our "waitress" housekeeper was so helpful in language translation and helping us with a little trouble we had. We had dinner at the Italian and Brazilian restaurants and made my birthday very special. The Air Transat liaison was so informative and helpful. We stayed by the pool as the beach was windy. Resort was fabulous and the staff

We never had any issues what so ever .. we did do the Jeep Safari excursion and I really recommend it to everyone it was a great experience and learning. You will enjoy every day that you are there i know we did from the beach to the pool and the entertainment at night. There was a fair amount of children but it is family oriented so be prepared as just a couple ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

Great resort

They didn't change the bathroom towels every day, only one time during 7 days, Only replaced water bottle in room once for the entire 7 day stay, had to get water at bar area every time needed but other them that was great hotel

Super clean!

I ve never seen a resort so clean! The staff is the friendliest ever. Food well it's Cuba you will always have something to eat. Some lines are longer but go after the rush . Beach was amazing.loved this resort

Awesome resort

The resort was huge and very family oriented. Beautiful white sand turquoise water beach and with the help of our friend Alfredo who provided lounge chairs for us for a small fee. The room was clean, comfortable and everything we needed. Including bottled water and beer in the fridge. We enjoyed the snack bar down at the beach and they provide the best oven roasted pizza and cappuccinos. Don't drink the coffee in the buffet area. not the best.. It was disappointing to see lot's of untouched food taken by people left on the table when the economy is hurting in Cuba. Lots of pools and entertainment if wanted.
