Grand Bavaro Princess: Large, wide and fun!

Clean, well-organized resort with courteous staff. Loved the peacocks roaming around - I didn't know they can "scream" so loudly. Food trucks? really? Those were my first thoughts. Boy, they came in handy so close to the beach wen I needed energy to battle the waves. I could have all the wings and burittos while listening to country music coming from "El Gaucho." Great variety of food, with fish, including made on the spot sushi. The resort beer and resort wine is the resort beer and resort wine [... read more]. Would have loved a shot of rum at the buffet. Super Bowl, what a party? If you get stuck on small things like your fridge is not being refilled fast, you may need to look somewhere else. Want to bring back souvenirs? Get them at the resort. Super pricey and limited variety at the airport. Would go back and recommend.

Bahia Principe Escape Aquamarine: All around great resort!

We very much enjoyed this resort in totality. With so many a la carte options the food here was excellent. The buffet was very good, good pub food option at the Sports Bar, but we highly recommend the a la carte restaurant options for dinner. Our favourites were Flame, Portofino, Nomad, but all were very good (we booked 13 out of the 14 days). Poolside snack food shack was edible. When they cooked at the poolside the food was decent. Very engaging and lots to do over the course of the day from learning the DR dances, to yoga, to "crazy" fun games in the afternoons. The evening shows and activities are excellent with our favourites being the Fire Show, the silent disco (so fun!) and the white party. The pool bar bartenders make excellent drinks with our favourite bartender Luis and our favourite poolside bartender server being Juan (he has so much happiness and energy!). It is a large resort and the public transportation cart system is an easy way to get around. The beach is a little walk and is beautiful. We live in an area of world class beaches, so we did not spend too much time at this beach. It is very busy but one of the best beaches we have seen in all of the Caribbean. The resort is clean, the restaurants beautiful. The rooms are clean, with some upkeep and updating issues. We experienced a few issues in our first room such as water pressure shower head issues, patio door not sliding properly issues, safe issues, and bar fridge door issues. We were able to switch rooms and all issues were gone. If you are looking for glamourous these rooms are not, however they were clean, comfortable, safe, and acceptable for the rest and relaxation we needed. Overall, we have travelled south a total of ten times. This resort was one of the tops for food and entertainment. The pool bar was excellent. The staff were all absolutely happy, attentive, engaging and amazing. If you are going for sun, drink, beach, socializing, food, "bang for your buck", this resort is for you. We would highly recommend to you. If you are going for glitz or glamourous rooms increase your budget and book elsewhere.

Riu Republica: OK resort

This Riu had very nice grounds. The beach area was beautiful. We were disappointed in the cleanliness of the rooms. This hotel needs updating. Very old. The pools areas were nice. Food was OK. Entertainment was so so. We have been to 2 other Riu's that we were very happy with. This one, not do much.

Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: Ok resort

the hotel and staff were great. In the room the toilet did not flush all the time and actually overflowed several times.. we had hot water only one day and rest of the time it was warm water. The air conditioner water dripped right on our floor in the hall near the bathroom and the door to our room. The public washrooms were disgusting…birds were helping them selves to the food at the snack bar actually going right into the containers. Melia Punta Cana Beach Wellness Resort Adults: Mixed stay

We stayed at the Melia Punta Cana for 7 days. We had a red eye flight with WJ from Calgary to Punta Cana as not many options from western Canada. The resort would not check us in until 4:00pm after travelling all night with no food on the plane. Very disappointed with that as last trip we took they gave us a room in the morning. The room we booked was supposed to be a superior room but instead they booked us a room along the back where the constant noise of the gulf carts happens. We went to explain that this will not work for us so we had to wait for another room until 4:00pm to get a room that had the patio along the back with very loud construction for our entire stay. Food was very good. Very poor beach service to bring drinks we had to get this ourselves. Cleanliness was ok not great Check in was a slow nightmare. Beach had more algae that wasn’t cleaned up this trip. Overall we enjoyed the food and beauty of DR but the check in process and room were a disappointment.

Majestic Colonial Punta Cana Beach Resort: Love majestic colonial

Great hotel. Close to airport. Beach and pool beautiful. Ate breakfast and lunch everyday at the ocean front restaurant. Steak twice delicious! Worth the extra money for club if travelling with no kids. The lounge is great plus bonus bigger towels with no card! Will definitely go back Never have an issue finding seats. Staff very grateful and friendly

Royalton Bavaro Resort and Spa: 10 days at Royalton

This is a difficult review. Our first room was clean, but smelled awful. Not tropical damp, mildew and mold. The second room was much better. The food ranged from okay to good. Some staff were very nice. Some staff were not happy to be there. I imagine it's not a great place to work. The beach was lovely as was the lazy river. Though it was cold. (The lazy river that is). Bartenders were fast and friendly. We were able to make all the reservations we needed without being diamond cl [... read more]ub, and i had been concerned about that. I would have had a much better stay if I had never spent a night in building 18. We traveled with family that were on a different floor in 18, and had the same issue.

Bahia Principe Escape Aquamarine: DO NOT BOOK

Pictures or nothing like the actual resort. Super dirty super smelly the staff is not pleasant or helpful at all. The rooms don’t even have cold water so you will have to shower in steaming, hot boiling water, towels are never being changed. Room service is not there either you have to pay for Them to fill your fridge as well as if you want to order anything for room service. Not to mention the disgusting cockroaches please save your money and do not book it.

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: OK Resort

The staff is exceptionally friendly. But I can't figure out why they use four different people to service the rooms. One handles towels, one handles restocking the fridge, one cleans the room, and one delivers chocolates at night. There's lots of traffic in the hallways, and lots of noise. They really need more people in the buffet, especially in the mornings. The people that are there are great, but they're run off their feet. Oh my, I like salt but a lot of the food was really too salty! Unusual for a Caribbean resort, the desserts were delicious. The A La Cartes were ok, the Italian was probably the best. The beach is lovely for sunbathing and walking, not great for swimming. We had a Premium package so got to enjoy the private beach area. That was really nice. The pool was very nice, but closed down at 7:00 pm! And often during the day the volume of music playing was not enjoyable. They could also use more public restrooms. The ones they have at the lobby often had a line up, sometimes because they wouldn't flush. My cousin and I booked massages, not a great experience. There's nothing like someone calling bingo at a volume that could be heard throughout the resort to aid in the relaxation one should enjoy from having a massage. The cold air blasting down wasn't a great addition to the hot stone massage either. It's not the worse resort I've ever been to, that belongs to Cuba, but I am not likely to book this resort again.

Wyndham Alltra Samana: Absolutely amazing resort

Amazing location, great service, very good food, friendly staff, beautiful beach! We will come back one day and bring our friends. A great place to unwind and enjoy nature away from crowded tourist spots. Take excursions.

Lopesan Costa Bavaro Resort: Perfect for all ages.

From the moment we arrived , explored the resort and settled in at night we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The fitness centre , water park and poolside provided exactly what we all were looking for. If there is a negative, the rooms were quite humid, leaving the sheets feeling damp but I assume that’s climate related.

Bahia Principe Explore El Portillo: Lovely Resort

The size of the resort is perfect! Everything is within a comfortable walking distance and the beach, pool and entertainment and main dining area are all centrally located. Our Junior Suite Superior was well-maintained and clean. The food was good, everything was kept very clean, and the resort staff were friendly and helpful. Our WestJet rep, Maria, was a gem. The long stretch of beach was very walkable, however less swim-able due to the crashing waves and sharp coral. The weather was quite [... read more] windy and rainy but there were many sunny breaks. We highly recommend the whale watching excursion to Samana Bay - it was an amazing experience. Overall we enjoyed our stay but would probably not go back due to the weather patterns in that area - no fault due to the actual resort.

Bahia Principe Explore Esmeralda: Winter getaway Dominican Republic

Top notch. Grounds were exquisite. Hotel facilities very clean. Restaurants many choices from around the world to choose from. Tutra ( Mongolian ) was our favourite. The only downer in my opinion was the staff would wash all cups in running tap water no soap and reuse cups to new patrons.( (at swim-up bar ). Which makes me begin to wonder , how do they wash their fruits & vegetables before serving? Unfortunately, I was sick with gastric pain and diarrhea by the 4th day. Please be aware that this is my 2nd time at Bahia Principe Esmeralda and 8th visit to the DR. Never have I gone thru this experience. Paradisus Palma Real Golf and Spa Resort: Gorgeous resort

Can’t say enough about this beautiful resort. We stayed in the reserve section adults only and were amazed by the rooms and the care given to being looked after. The an la cartes were great and especially liked that we had our own restaurant in the reserve section.Our concierge Wolfgang was Amazing and looked after us to the max. Would definitely stay there again.

Viva Tangerine by Wyndham: Lovely Resort

Very clean and the grounds were amazing.! Loved the beach area. Did not enjoy the drinks as with any all inclusive, cheaper alcohol is used along with very sugary mixes. Great wine though...Great access to town and loved the night life on the beach.

Grand Bavaro Princess: Excellent Beach Vacation

We just returned from our one-week stay (February 4–11) and had a wonderful experience overall. We chose the Platinum section and were very happy with that decision. As beach lovers, the location was perfect for us. We stayed in Building 67, conveniently located between the Platinum Reception and the Cappuccino Coffee Bar — about a five-minute walk to the beach. Our room faced the Tropical/Caribe/Punta Cana Princess resort (where we stayed two years ago), with a vacant lot in between. While the [... read more] view wasn’t the highlight, it certainly didn’t matter given how little time we spent in the room. The room itself was one of the nicest we’ve had — very modern, and most importantly a comfortable bed. Toiletries were provided (great for anyone who prefers not to pack full bottles), and the minibar was well stocked with water, pop, and beer. Complimentary full bottles of rum, vodka, and scotch were also included, with additional bottles available for purchase if needed. We appreciated that the room key was part of the resort bracelet — no worrying about lost cards! We used the app to book our à la carte reservations. Reservations open weekly on Sundays for the upcoming week (for example, you can’t book Monday on Saturday). We weren’t limited in the number of restaurants we could try, which was fantastic. The filet mignon at El Gaucho was excellent — I ordered it medium well and it was cooked perfectly. The pizza at Focaccia was also very good. The only slight disappointment was the food trucks, where the fries were cold and my hamburger didn’t seem fully cooked, so I chose not to eat it. Otherwise, we found the food to be very enjoyable. We visited the main lobby area twice for evening entertainment. The theatre space appeared to be set up in a conference-style room and didn’t have programming on the nights we checked. There was live music in the open lobby area, which we enjoyed. We did stop by the sports bar and were surprised that games like pool, air hockey, and foosball had an additional fee. At $8 Canadian for a game of pool, it felt a bit pricey for an all-inclusive resort. Most of our time was spent at the beach. We never had difficulty finding chairs. My husband would head down around 7 a.m., and we would go straight to the beach after breakfast. There is beach service as well as a beach bar. The PBG rooftop bar is a great space, though it can be quite windy and cool in the evenings — I was glad to have a long-sleeved jacket along. One thing to note is that the Platinum section is not adults-only. This didn’t matter for us, but it may be helpful information for others when booking. The majority of the staff were friendly and accommodating. There were a few minor service hiccups, but nothing that detracted from our overall enjoyment. All in all, we truly enjoyed our stay and would absolutely recommend this resort to other travellers looking for a relaxing beach vacation!

Wyndham Alltra Punta Cana: Beautiful resort

Very clean resort, with nice pool, fun water park, close to the beach, with friendly staff, decent food and nice rooms. There were not enough pool loungers for everyone, so if you want one, be prepared to get up at 7am to claim your spot every day.

Bahia Principe Escape Bouganville: Very nice Hotel.

The specialty restaurants need total improvements. No shows in the main theatre. Very large grounds, although kept vey well, sometime it is confusing. Food in common restaurants very well. No ocean view from any building, due to low rise styles. The beach very well situated and clean, with many trees. Too far from the airport, and not close to any city.

Paradisus Palma Real Golf and Spa Resort: Amazing stay!!

The hotel manager Juan was superb. Very attentive and engaged. The concierge staff Jamie was also top notch. We could not have asked for a better stay thanks to both of them in particular. Very clean and upscale resort with delicious food and gorgeous beach!

Serenade All Suites Adults Only Resort: Relaxing Resort with calm protected beach

This is a smaller hotel, very easily laid out with very welcoming and comfortable modern surroundings. Facilities and grounds are spotless . Comfortable room & quiet at night. We were 3 gals and selected the adult all suite side with three beautiful pools…..we-especially loved the calm ocean because resort has a floating barrier wall that keeps out any ocean animals - providing a calm “tide pool”sandy bottom with shallow depth. Perfect for children and those less stable in waves. My companion  [... read more]is visually impaired so this beach was key for selecting this resort - ocean waves are risky. This resort is not on the more active Bavaro Beach and I liked that - could always get a beach chaise - much quieter beach. Resort is not luxury but a solid 4- has an older crowd. Food and buffet was good always something to enjoy but not fancy - We especially enjoyed LaPalapa - big shout out to Pebel and Manuel - who were wonderful. Very quiet night life - fine with us to relax after a day in sun and late supper. Also offered a great gym. Shuttle service to and from hotel was organized well.
