Viva Heavens by Wyndham: Lovely, simple, super-clean and gracious resort!

We were just there...March 17-24. The staff are very gracious. Shout-out to Alejandro (porter) and Able (VKitchen busman) and Eduardo (Beach bartender) for taking such good care of us! The resort only has about 400 people at a time...6 wings of 3 floors...10 rooms per floor. Rooms are huge. We overlooked the front entrance but were not disturbed by the comings and goings. Super safe "compound" of 9 resorts to explore. Gina told us to "not hesitate" in booking the V Wyndham Heavens, so we didn't, and we'd go back without hesitation!

Bahia Principe Escape Aquamarine: Beautiful resort

This resort is exceptionally clean and beautiful. However, it is very large! There are 7 resorts in this complex. No one told us about the size of this place or that there are shuttle cars to take you where you want to go. The first day there was very frustrating because we walked so much before we found out about the shuttles. Also, it's not the resort on the beach...it's the second resort up from the beach. The rooms are spacious and clean and the pools are lovely. Lots of chairs on the beach, [... read more] but be careful not to sit in the roped off areas which are for the Ambar resort. The security will quickly approach you and get you to move. They know by the colour of your towels and the band on your wrist. Someone needs to explain these things to you when you book or when you arrive at the resort. We flew in with Air Canada Vacations and when we met with the rep. on day 2, he said nothing about the shuttles. Also, for the Aquamarine resort, the bus from the airport cannot take you to the lobby of this resort because the bus is too large. You have to get off at the entrance and another shuttle will take you to the lobby check in desk. Also, the theatre and many of the a-la-carte restaurants are not on this resort so you have to either walk or take a shuttle to them. We didn't find this out until the last day of our stay! So, we missed out on 2 a-la-carts before we realized this. All this being said, I would return now that I know about the shuttles!! Everyone is very friendly, but not everyone can speak good English, so there can be a language barrier.

Barcelo Bavaro Palace: Beautiful with it's own issues

We stayed at one of the sister hotels (Barceló Maya) last year so we had a an expectation of the same quality and experience going into this. Upon arrival, we were greeted and directed promptly. The wait to check in was a bit on the long side. We arrived after 1pm and was told the rooms were not ready. They gave us a beeper and directed us to go and eat lunch and come back when the beeper went off or 3pm. We went back to find the rooms still were not ready so they gave us 2 rooms 8 rooms [... read more] apart. This was disappointing as I did contact the hotel twice previous requesting joining rooms, however I also understand it is subject to availability. The rooms were clean, but well used! a closet door didn't work in each of our rooms as well as the TV in 1 room and an alarm clock. However, when we contacted the operator, someone was always sent promptly. The resort is large. The train that operates is a nice way to get around. The childrens areas are great, however be prepared to pay for extras (Pirate ship splash area, Bowling, Golf, Games) It is setup to still take money from you after you have already paid the money to get there. Golf was no different. Golf is included with your stay! BONUS RIGHT! well, a $75 mandatory cart fee is ridiculous! $35 rental clubs for used or $45 for brand new! So included golf isn't so included! The food was OK. A La Carte were great but the buffets, like all resorts, you get sick of by day 5. Service staff were present however not always working for you it felt like. After a few days, they realized we tipped and service did improve. Some people my have an opinion regarding the lack of English speaking staff, however, I took it as I have travelled to a different country, why should I expect them to speak my language. The beech was the best beech I have been to. Clean shore, clean sand, so clean it was hard for the kids to collect rocks or shells! Pools were large and great. Chairs get snagged up early. The hotel even posts just because a towel is on the chair, doesn't entitle you to it however, who enforces that? We went early and did the same like everyone else. Overall we had a great time. The hotel has shown its age or use at least but it is still beautiful. The experience was great but the extra charges are enough to make you think "Is this place better then others?"

Bahia Principe Escape Aquamarine: Wonderful Resort

Likes: Grounds, where the best maintain that I have seen in years. Public Areas, People are so friendly Hotel Room, Well appointed Buffett, Some of the best food I have ever had in the DR for years Staff, Friendly and spoke english well Beach, the Grand had it's private beach and close to the bar and food service Pool, three on property, they are clean and beautiful Dislikes: Could not walk through the luxury property to get to the beach

Viva Wyndham Dominicus Beach: A Beautiful Resort!

This was our second trip to Viva Wyndham Dominicus Beach. The property is well designed with a lot of sandy beach front covered with palm trees with lots of lounge chairs. Beautiful sunsets can be photographed from the beach. The beach is private and can only be used by Viva residents; there are no venders bothering you! : ) Our 'superior room' accommodations were fine; clean and spacious. All rooms are close to the beach. There are also lovely swimming pools, if the beach is not your thing. Ple [... read more]ase note there are no swim-up bars. The staff is very friendly. English is not their first language; it is probably their third behind Spanish and French. The food is fine, but we found they used a lot of salt and although baked desserts look great, they were often tasteless. If you don't want to eat at a buffet for every meal, they do have options. In the evening you can try to book at an A La Carte restaurant, I think you are allowed two during a week stay, although we had difficulty booking for eight people and the only time slots we could get were early (6:15pm and 6:45pm).

The Level at Melia Caribe: SPECTACULAR RESORT

Just returned from Melia Caribe tropical level adults in Punta Cana Dominican and wow wow wow it is beautiful the grounds are surrounded by beautiful trees and clean very very clean. The rooms are very nice but we spent our time at the beach and lounges. The beach is fantastic they have lots of little huts, you can walk for hours at the beach. the beach is also clean the water was beautiful did a lot of swimming. the lobby's are beautiful and comfortable and very relaxing on adult side a little  [... read more]more activity on family side. The washrooms are so pretty and clean. The dining was great never had a problem with any of our food lots of selections. The Riviera is so pretty and food is great. No reservations was good just go wherever. The resort is big but we never felt crowded. We travelled with carts never had to wait long Omar was always asking what time we needed a ride and he was always there for us. The staff is great friendly and they cant do enough for you. our bartender Kebai Bay made us feel special and his drinks are amazing. all the waiters greeted us kindly everyday. My husband loved the fact that he did not have to wear long pants to go to supper. Meals were casual which was great because it was to hot to dress up. We were at this resort for 2 weeks we were never bored. I would definitely go back and I would recommend this resort to everybody. Check in at the level is 1 to 1 and very relaxing. The level benefits are very nice treat you like your special.

Playabachata Hotel: Decent resort

Lack of variety in dining areas food in steakhouse very bland. Beach was nice and so were bars. The staff here were very nice and served quickly. The food in the buffets was overal “okay” however the food choices stayed practically the exact same throughout the week. Wifi was only available in the lobby was “okay” to very slow depending on the amount of people in the lobby as everybody wanted wifi. Sensatori Resort Punta Cana: Great place for families with small kids

Great programming, wonderful service and vibe. Loved our room and view. Lots of small kids as the Sensatori and Nickelodeon are combined so would not reco if you are looking for quiet by the pool. Food I thought was very good and the overall quality of everything was very high. The water is so nice and warm. They also seem like an environmentally conscious resort which I really appreciated. Bahia Principe Escape Aquamarine: Great Vacation

The hotel was clean and very attentive. Food was very good with a great variety. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Some of the entertainment Could have been a little better but overall ok.We would definitely go again someday.

Viva Heavens by Wyndham: Great Week in Paradise!

Perfect location & size for our vacation. Staff was efficient & friendly. Good food. Great, clean room with balcony overlooking a beautiful golf course. Beach clean & perfect for long walks. Close to airport - transfers were great. Entertainment staff very hardworking, friendly, talented young people. Good bartenders & wait staff. Great city tour & gondola ride to top of mountain. Breathtaking views. Lovely to see & learn about Puerto Plata. More wait staff around pool, beach for drink orders . Otherwise loved it - great time. Definitely would recommend this resort!

Royalton Hideaway Punta Cana: Beautiful

We just visited the resort for our anniversary The resort is beautiful and clean. The staff was amazing, we had Nelio as our butler he always made sure we were doing ok! Dolores and Juan at the hideaway bar were so much fun! The evening entertainment was amazing every night! We did find getting a beach chair or a poolside lounger with an umbrella a challenge! We would visit again!

Playabachata Hotel: the worst resort ever

Good afternoon, i booked 6 tickets to Dominican republic for my self and 5 of my family witch 2 of them coming from Lebanon to go for 7 days vacation in Puerto plata playabachata resort, it turned to a disaster after we checked in and we were ready to leave the resort the second day and come back to Canada. the pools were disgusting dirty, the oil, hair, bugs... were floating on top of the water, the beach chairs were all broken no entertainment at all, the entertainment members come just to [... read more] take some drinks from us without even asking... i remember Emanuel he comes and drink the beer and always asks us to bring him more.... we were expected sea food but we barely saw it lol ... only 1 kind of fish that they served the whole week,,,, the tomato was ruined all the time, the bread was hard like a rock, meat is hard can't shew it .... employees will ask you for the tip before they serve and if you don't tip them you will get half a glass of water. we are 6 people we payed 6000$ in tickets plus 120$ on our departure and over 100$ each for tips after we took off from our work to go on vacation and enjoy our time but we couldn't swim or eat good... spend the vacation in a room where we had to hear noise from the construction people that weak us up at 6,30 AM everyday, and everywhere you walk on the resort they were painting and paint smell was very strong... i complained to the reception in the main lobby over 5 times every day about the pool but no luck, i went to the sunwings representative to file a complaint or even to ask her if we can return back to Canada sooner but she barely speaks English. on top of that we lost the water for over 12 hours we couldn't shower or even brush our teeth... rooms were dirty, the sealing were stained yellow, bugs everywhere, we had to wait for the rooms cleaners till 3 or 4 PM to ask for water to drink, and change our towels... we saw some Canadians on the resort next to us THE SENATORS they were very happy with the rooms, service, food and pools... we asked at the reception if we can move there and we pay extra if we have to they refused to talk about it with us the sunwings rep and the rep at the front desk in the lobby. finally all what i can say it was not a vacation, it was a disaster for the whole family... definitely we wont go back to that resort and wont recommend it to anyone. i am asking to file a complaint on my behalf t get a full refund from what we paid. thank you

Sunscape Puerto Plata: Amazing resort

The hotel grounds and beach were cleaned daily. Food was excellent and there waz a large variety. Staff was very friendly and courteous. I would and already have recommended thus resort ti family and friends

Royalton Punta Cana Resort: We had an amazing family vacation!

I would recommend this resort to anyone and would go back again in a heart beat. Room and resort was immaculate. Food was great. The buffet was one of the best i have seen for both quality and choice for any meal of the day. Service was first class. And the beach...It does not get any better.

Bahia Principe Explore Punta Cana: Beautiful property

Very clean property. All washrooms spotless, even around pool areas. No plumbing issues LOL I have been to approximately 20 resorts and the food at the Bahia Principe was fantastic. The buffet was great, all looked fresh everyday. Great cheeses and cold cuts everyday. Because it's a big property, the trains to transport guests were great and always available. No waiting. BelleVue Dominican Bay: Resort good

The resort was nice , clean, the pools very nice and the a la carte restaurants were great, but I didn't like the beach area at all, dogs everywhere, pedlars bugging you. I didn't feel safe off the resort.

Bahia Principe Escape Bouganville: Probably won’t return...

The resort and grounds are beautiful. Staff are friendly and helpful. Free wifi is impossible to get. Lots of chairs and shade on beach, but water is murky and rocky. Not very accessible. Didn’t like the food at all.

Ocean El Faro: Disappointing experience

The hotel and ground designs are magnificent but as we started to look around the grounds, it is far from being finished. I knew this was a new resort and they had a soft launch in November 2018 but I was hoping that by march break it would be completed but I was wrong. We had a great experience in H10 Ocean resort in Mexico so we thought this would be almost as good. I was disappointed, not only was construction still going on but the beach was full of garbage (construction & litter) and it  [... read more]does not look like the picture posted. When you look around the room you can tell it was quickly slapped together as tiles were falling off, door stopper for the shower was missing as were some of the cupboard hinges and bedside lightbulbs They were understaffed and their training was minimal. Many of them did not speak or understand English and all expected a tip. I do not mind tipping as I know wages are low but I do expect a certain amount of service. It did no matter if we tipped, service only had one speed, their speed. Internet was not working gin our room for 7 of the 10 days we were there and the resort had many power outages which lasted a few minutes. We also experienced loss of water pressure and hot water but was resolved within a few hours. Another annoying thing were the salesmen selling you timeshare, they were relentless and do try to trick you to come to a "VIP breakfast" etc... We did enjoy our holiday though as the weather was great and did make the best of it. Maybe in a year or so when they're full up and running they will figure it out.

Grand Sirenis Tropical Suites: Amazing resorr

This resort was fantastic. The grounds are amazing. Very clean and well kept. The staff were very friendly and took the time to ask how you were and if everything was ok. Johanna in the buffet was very attentive and you never lacked a full glass whether it was water or something a little stronger. Evelin was our favorite bar server in the lobby bar. Always making sure you had everything you needed. Hugo was our Air Transit rep and we could not have asked for anyone better. He was always checking [... read more] to make sure your stay was a good one. The rooms were amazing as well. Very clean and well kept and had everything you needed. The pool area was fantastic. There was wait staff always stopping by for drink orders whether it was alcohol or just water. The beach was very clean and lots of places to sit whether you wanted sun or shade. Overall our stay was amazing and we all agreed that we would definitely go back.

Catalonia Royal La Romana: An Amazing Resort

We were there from Feb 27th to March 4th and it was absolutely lovely! And we would go back in a heart beat!! We stayed at the adults only section of the resort and the service was fantastic. The staff were friendly and ready to serve you. What I really liked about this place that you didn't need to set up reservations at any of the dining places. Just walked up and we were seated. They had a variety of delicious food, any where from seafood, pasta, pizza and steak. There is a garden that I enjoyed in my morning walks. The beach itself, well what can I say better than walk in snow! To bad I couldn't take it back with me. This resort was perfect for us for it wasn't an overly large resort it was a perfect size. We very much like to meet with other guest(s) and get to know them during our stay which makes for a pleasant vacation. Yes, I would go back not for a seven day vacation but for a ten day vacation!!
