Place was nice. We always had a variety of food and did not miss out. However, not enough staff in buffet to supply all the guests. Always a line up morning, supper. One thing I would have to suggest is removing those disgusting place mats at the tables. The waiters only clean the tables and the mats are kept dirty. They look like they have never been washed. Rooms were well kept but paper does not flush and we missed hot water in the shower 2days. Kids zone ...must be completely disinfected. The [... read more]toys and tables looked very dirty.
Animators great performers. Always friendly.

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: was not the best resort
We stayed in block 8 at the Memories Flamenco. The rooms are nice however, don't expect any hot or warm water after 4:30 pm right until morning aprox 6:30 a.m. The hotel ran out of ice everyday so warm alcohol unless you just drink beer, no slushy drinks or Pina Coladas. The grounds are well kept and the staff is great. The beds are as hard as a rock, and I got bites ,but I did not see any mosquitoes, so I'm not sure what they are :/ and I would rather leave it at that.

Paradisus Varadero: Beautiful Resort BUT lots of issues
We went for the week of February 10-17.... We got there and loved the resort! It was beautiful! Not busy at all even. Found out that they were not even at 50% capacity. Unfortunately, it was nothing but issues after that. The beach was dirty and rocky, not cleaned. Lots of bugs (I was eaten alive even with bug spray). They ran out of beer, certain booze and even pop by the 19th! That was no beer for the rooms. Booze ran out at the bar along with some mixes and certain pops! Coke and Fanta were o[... read more]ut by the 15th. The fridge in our room didn't cool. Other than that, no real issues with our room. Running out of certain meats as well. We went to an a la carte on the 14th and it took 1hr and 28mins for food to come. Our friend's steak ordered well done and it was still mooing, sent it back and nothing for 10mins. We ended up getting up and leaving and going to eat at the snack bar which is where the food was actually decent but they were even running out of items. Many other people complaining to management, but they were not helpful. Very slow service in the lobby for drinks at the beginning of the week when they had a stock. Just went downhill from there. We were pretty disappointed since this cost almost $3000 for 2 people. Would not recommend unfortunately

Playa Luxury Cayo Las Brujas: Not great
Food was absolutely TERRIBLE! Not the greatest of Amenities either. Had to beg for water and other beverages for our room. We changed our flight and came home early. I was sick and I thank god for me peanut butter. My husband was bit head to toe. Worst trip ever.

Melia Peninsula Varadero: Below average
The resort itself was okay, food was Cuba typical. Our beach towels were stolen from the pool area and staff didn't do anything about it. We ended up having to pay for towels which most like report staff took.

Royalton Hicacos Resort and Spa: Fantastic beach
One of the nicest beach we have been to. The grounds, room and beach were well maintained and clean. Very good food at the A la Carte restos. The buffet was a hit and miss a few times. The shows were average. We upgraded to Diamond Club and it was well worth it. Staff really warms up fast to you when you ask their names and start to talk to them. The diamond club staff were the best as they really went out of their way to make sure you were happy and quickly responded to all of our quest[... read more]ions or requests. The bar at Diamond club section is much better then small beach bar for the rest of the resort. We had no issue with Wifi (1 cuc/hour) and it was at an acceptable speed. Do not exchange too many CUCs near end of trip as Cuba does not allow travellers to bring them outside of the country but they can be exchanged at airport. Rhum prices are better in Varadero then at the airport. Our beach was the best maintained beach on that stretch.

Melia Marina Varadero: very disappointing
Bought tickets on tripcentral to Melia marina Varadero for Valentines weekend 13-17 Feb 2020 at a pretty hefty price.Arrived there close to midnight instead of 8:30 pm due to a late Sunwing departure from Toronto
Checked in room 4103 which was a quite nice apartment style with a nice king size bed,two full bathrooms, full kitchen and a nice marina view balcony. So far all good rested well and was looking forward for a nice coming Valentine day Went to breakfast and was very disappointing with t[... read more]he poor variety of food and most important the poor service and cleaning less of the buffet room No juices or whatever they had were warm Asked for orange juice at 9;00 am and was told they're out of it
Finally after a looooong walk to the beach got to see a decent beach with nice sand and good water to swim
Decided to go for lunch at the snack bar by the beach Got there and was wondering where all the snack food would be Found out it was around the corner on the grill Well grill was empty and there was some grilled full fish in a tray that was 50% burned and dry They had some veggies and no fries or potatoes whatsoever
had 2 fish and waited one hour for two chicken legs
For dinner we decided to go to Don Ernesto restaurant and try our luck since we didn't have a reservation made:)
We got lucky and they accepted us to have dinner ( which we enjoyed.)... otherwise we probably wouldn't be able to have anything to eat due to the overbooked hotel with the local people At the buffet restaurant was a line up of people waiting a minimum of 1 1/2 hrs to get in Unacceptable!!!! Absolutely nothing related to Valentine,s day around the whole resort Beer was OK but all other drinks including wine white or red were disgusting gross tasting No sparkling wine unless you buy your own Coffee at main lobby was good
As for food next day was a carbon copy of first day Loooong line up and the snack bar with absolutely no food variety other than grilled chicken and veggies that took over one hour to get All the staff was sitting by the bar counter having a chat and ignoring all the messy tables and all their valuable customers They seem to forget that is because of us that they have a job and that we work as hard to be able to go keep them in business
Third day we decided to go on a catamaran trip which proved to be the best choice to get out of that mess and ignorance at the resort
We went snorkelling then to an island were they had a nice bar and buffet with all kinds of seafood and a large variety of great food all included in 69$ us per person !! A special treat... we loved it and thanks to Pedro the animation guy on the catamaran we had a great time during this trip
We arrived back to the resort around 4:30 pm and because the weather was great we decided to stop by the beautiful swimming pool they have and go to the in water pool bar for a drink While we were in the water someone had stolen my girlfriend's little Coach pouch in which she had $40 Canadian 30 cuc and her Iphone 7 ....That was a bad experience and ruined the night for us Her especially
Well for dinner we went to Don Pepperoni and had another a la carte dinner which was enjoyable
Next morning we left the resort to go back home , checked in to the Varadero airport My girlfriend had locked her luggage.... I didn't and sure enough when i got back home to Cambridge my 2 perfumes i had with me were gone Someone at Varadero airport had helped themselves Just my luck :(
Anyways....overall it was a trip we want to forget asap and delete of our future destinations Sorry!!

Dhawa Cayo Santa Maria: Horrible resort !
They call this a 5 star resort ? Well upon arrival in the room that was very clean, i opened the mini fridge and this was inside, 1 bottle of water, 1 can of pop, 1 can of beer, REALLY ? This was typical in all rooms !
We knew the beach would be amazing because its Cayo Santa Maria, some of the best beaches in the world. However i found the food a big problem, the buffet restaurant had limited selection for breakfast & dinner, we never ate lunch there. Breakfast was missing many items, orang[... read more]e juice, cereals, yogurt, and i dont know who eats green peppers and other strange things for breakfast.
Something made me violently throw up from the buffet for dinner, there was so much oil in the food.
The ala-carte restaurants had very small portions and not much selection, also this resort is not a complete all inclusive, half the main course menu was extra and you had pricing on the menu.
There was no caned beer at any bars or restaurants until the resort let the LOCAL Cubans stay at the hotel for 2 days, they seemed to take over the resort at the expense of all the tourists making messes everywhere and making our waits for food & drinks longer.
The hotel workers were great, nice people, some of the tourists were very rude, mainly the french Canadians.

Melia Jardines del Rey: Cuban resort
We had a good trip, but also ran into some health issues traveling with small children. We received excellent care at the On-site medical center.
The bed, linens and room were comfortable. (Some people in our party had issues with toilet flushing properly- ours worked perfectly).
The music played at the pool was too much, too loud for this 55yr old : high energy bass all day long (Until 5 pm)
Airport transfers went well and is close by - Air Transat Flight was very comfortable.

Hotel Mojito: Great resort
I enjoyed our stay at this resort the staff was very friendly. The rooms were quite nice and clean. The beach was gorgeous and lots of access to lounge chairs. They had good burgers and fries at the beach restaurant and yummy pizza at the 24 hour bar. Only 10-15 minutes from the airport.
Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: A bit disappointed
We have been to Cuba 3 times, we are not fussy and recognize that Cuba has its limitations in certain areas. I usually think negative reviews are the people not understanding Cuba. But This hotel felt disjointed. Like there is a management problem and no communication. They ran out of so many things it was laughable yet other resorts did not. For instance no pop at all, no coke, tonic, no 7-up. No mamosa( or sparkling wine) any day. No milk ( cream) for coffee one day. Coke came a few days here[... read more] and there( yah!) Ice was an issue. Some days none, some days a scoop in the morning but none by afternoon. One bar would have it but not another. So you would run around looking for some ice and coke for your rum and waste an hour. They won’t share with each other in different areas
(staffs words) long line ups everywhere. Felt like we waited for hours everywhere We went. Ate really late at the Buffet so we wouldn’t have to wait for 45 min for a piece of chicken. Sometimes there was a long line ups outside the buffet just to get in. And al a cartes are now only 2 not 3 and good luck trying to get a time at one of those. We had one request, a king bed when we booked way back in November.....nope! Yet a single lady who booked the week before and didn’t want a king yet got it anyway! They read and honour no requests. People from diamond club got no perks at all. They had no pop or ice either at there special bar ( talked to them and they were very disappointed as well) No washroom anywhere near the beach. The one by the pool was disgusting and the one in the lobby not much better.
The pros: beach was best I have ever been on. We walked for hours each direction and absolutely no issues getting a palapa, they are abundant. ..by far the best part of the resort. We had lots of hot water and pressure as well. And our room was ok. Building 10. Just watch your step cause water is dripping all over the hallway floors ( some kind of pipe issue) and it can be dark and slippery. Some very pleasant staff.
I will conclude that we just rode it out and and go with the flow. We adjusted ( like eating an hour before the buffet closed) to avoid the heavy crowds. we drank beer ( not my drink of choice) till they ran out of that too...we just went along with it and didn’t let things ruin our vacation. But I will not go back to this resort. There are better organized ones then this.

Melia Costa Rey: Great resort
Just got back from The Pullman on Feb 17. The food was very good, the beachfront and staff were great and the entertainment was excellent. There was a great variety of live bands in the Lobby bar and by the Pool in the evenings. The shows in the Theatre were very professional.

Iberostar Origin Playa Alameda: Worth going to.
Overall good hotel to stay at. Nothing fancy but nice and functional. Food at the dining facility was good. The 3 a la carte restaurants were not as good.
Lack of pool-side and beach lounger was an issue. Simple solution would be to not allow saving a lounger with a single towel. Either use it or loose it.
Mostly Canadians at this hotel (80%). Did not meet any Americans.
Most of the staff had trouble understand English, but they were very friendly.

Originally we were booked to Imperial but got upgraded to the new section called Rainbow. This 5* hotel was incredible! The food, beaches, excellent service, amazing drinks and a great gym. For entertainment we went back to Imperial however the food there was not even comparable to Rainbow. I believe they have overbooked that section so they couldn’t serve as many people. Hotel Los Cactus: Decent resort
Standard overall hotel. The rooms were a little run down, needed a good clean. I think because of the dampness in the air things like the sheets felt and smelled a little mouldy. The buffet restaurant didn’t have enough tables or staff to accommodate the number of guests. If you arrived late to meals it was hard to find a clean table. There was at times a shortage of certain food items and beverages and some of the food was too salty. Loved the coffee bar -best specialty coffees. Most of the[... read more] staff were pleasant. Some of the activities were later than their specified times or didn’t happen at all. The beach was great only sometimes not enough beach chairs available or trees for shade. I enjoyed my week overall and think for the amount paid it was worth it.
I travel at least twice a year. Usually Mexico, Dominican or Costa Rica. I haven't been to Cuba in about 15 years and was quiet disappointed.
Travelling to Cuba I knew "Cuba was Cuba" but I did expect a minimum standard.
The Great - the beach and water are unmatched most anywhere. It is crystal clear and beautiful white sand. The servers are amazing and do their best to make your experience amazing. They are top notch - friendly, kind, happy and genuine. Same goes for the front desk staff, g[... read more]ardeners and bar tenders. The fresh fruit, veggies and meat directly on the grill is amazing. The omelets in the morning are to die for and that is matched with the fresh bread! The Mediterranean al a carte is amazing!
The Bad - Cuba goes without. One day we didn't have milk. For 3 days there was no toilet paper in the general washrooms. One day our towels didn't get changed out due to being out of laundry soap. It wasn't like the staff didn't want to supply these things - they just didn't have them. That was standard for the resorts around us as we would make small talk on our beach walks. The resort is dated and the rooms show it. Again since they don't have a Home Depot down the street they have "made it work" with odd screws, different handles and mixed furniture. Unfortunately for our travel partners they had to change rooms 3 times due to cockroaches, ants and mold in large amounts. This just puts you on high alert. The fitness room was good but 2 of the 3 bikes were broken and 2 out of the 3 treadmills did not power on. However the free weights and machines provided a great workout while on vacation.
I loved the vacation for the beach, water, sun, company and the people. However I did miss the little things and especially the "luxuries" that are standard in Mexico or Dominican

Club Kawama: Well Past it’s Prime!
Our Standard Room had mould, smelled , had only 1 small lamp and only a bottom ( no top) sheet on each bed.
When we complained we were placed in a slightly better room which was sub standard but was the only room available.
The helpful Sunwing Representative tried to get us a Superior Room but they had none so we were given a room at another hotel at no extra cost.
Thankyou Sunwing!
