Camino Real Zaashila: Camino Real Huatulco

Love the staff and the property. The organization needs to take a hard look at why they track drinks etc for all inclusives. It wastes time for staff and guests and takes time away from customer service. Trust your staff you bean counters. Management are the worst part of the resort. Blue blouse staff who do nothing and cameras can be used to allay theft concerns. Front desk staff are not overly friendly.

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: Staff great but hotel lacking

Definitely not luxury. Short staffed with long waits for coffee or bars. One washroom had no toilet seat for the 2 weeks we were there. Hotel ran out of usual items like milk, coffee liquor. Started to feel like cuba shortages. Ask for days straight for a blanket and finally just found one in a maids cupboard. Food was good, especially 24 hour snack bar but one wait staff so wait time was long. Over 30 times to this chain and wonder if the change in staff is due to the sale.

Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda: BBay GE Resort – Great Fun, Food, Comfort and Value

The Blue-Bay Grand Esmeralda Resort (all-inclusive resort or room daily) is a large size property near Playa del Carmen, an hour south of Cancun city or 40 minutes from the airport, unless there’s a detour. We recommend this resort which offers many usual “all-inc” amenities for moderate cost. We're satisfied with clean sheets, good food, convenience and value. The buffet restaurant is white-tablecloth elegant, open for breakfast, lunch and dinner with excellent variety; we enjoyed all our meals there. Soup lovers like me appreciate cream soups of mushroom, spinach, carrots, tomato, potato, all which were nicely flavoured. Fish soup too. Desserts were delicious, daily variegated. Service for beverages was prompt and courteous. Five a-la-carte dinner restaurants offer excellent choices provided your selections are thoughtful. Reserve easily on the app. Examples: in the Steak restaurant, we liked filet-mignon, in the French restaurant, we liked something, in the seafood restaurant we liked the braised salmon steak; in the Italian we liked everything, especially the stuffed veal with prosciutto and cheese (Valdostana style); and the Mexican restaurant was passable. The Black & White bar scene in the hotel is happy, always active and intellectual (...just kidding!). And there's live music to compete with revelers' loudness. The Theatre Shows were serendipitously excellent, offering nightly different, entertaining shows: magic, mariachi, Mexican folklore, Disney, Broadway, Fire Show on the Beach, and more. After the show, there's live latin or other music for listening or dancing. It’s fun to watch fun dancing, and to join in if one likes to dance. We do! My vacation advice: don't retire to your room if you're not yet gently full, sloshed and tired. Three fresh pools are available. The usual pool-side lounge chair hide & seek situation prevails. Now don’t gird your bikini in a knot; same at many economy resorts. If you're challenged by walking, know there are long walks to get around and down to the beach. There are electric cart shuttles, if you can catch. The landscaping is beautiful and well groomed. Also, wildlife, by which I mean French Canadians and … coatis, agouti, iguanas, lizards, many kinds of birds, and (wait for it...) cats and dogs. Finally, regarding staff invitations to a “presentation”. Yes, annoying, distracting and time consuming when your time in the sun is limited. Calm..., don’t gird your bikini in a knot, just say politely no! Me, I’m empathetic, because resort workers are just trying to make a living by upselling you to their “club,” offering $50 per person gifts. I know people who have participated and survived and even purchased. Buy your friends $100 of gifts. Take it easy on your vacation.

Ocean Allure Costa Mujeres: Wonderful Resort

We really enjoyed our stay at Ocean Allure. The resort was beautiful, with a great room, wide range of restaurants and a spectacular beach. The service was exceptional with a very well trained, caring and attentive resort team. Fitness Centre was also excellent.

Flamingo Vallarta: Great Vacation

The hotel was impressive. Nice entrance, marble, great washrooms in the lobby, grounds were very nice, with lush vegetation. The room had a great bed,and was well air conditioned. Not the kind of plumbing we are used to in Canada, but servicable. Pool was great, nicely located on the marina, lots of options very close by, not too crowded, Great older hotel!

Catalonia Riviera Maya: Great hotel

Beautifully kept grounds. Clean. Well staffed with the hardest working and friendliest people we've ever met. Plenty of food with good variety. Steak house was recommended as an a la carte but disappointing. Not edible to and of our 6 people table. Other a la carte recommendations were amazing. There was construction going on right on the property line that made it difficult to enjoy the privileged area due to noise and diesel odor. Not the hotels blame but did affect us.

Grand Palladium Riviera Resort And Spa: Amazing resort!

We had a wonderful time. Everyone was healthy. The resort was beautiful & well maintained. Lots of sports in the rear of the resort for our gentlemen. The nightime entertainment was great. Enjoyed the band after the entertainment in the lobby. Food was yummy. Best a la cartes we've been to. Beautiful palm tree forest and beach walking northbound along the beach. One of our highlights. The wee bit of improvement: no latin music or fun games by the beautiful pool. Also a bit too deep  [... read more]to walk around in. The location was a bit far from everything (40 min Playa del Carmen, 30 mins Tulum...we knew that going in, was ok). Overall, solid 4.5, we were very happy with our vacation and choice of hotels. Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: Another great stay at the Sian Ka’an

Been coming here for years and love the place. It’s quiet in the jungle with lots of wildlife. This is not a party hotel and there’s no disco. It’s non-smoking except in a couple of designated areas. There’s nice pools including a quiet pool with no music. They do have some entertainment like a foam party in the pool once a week and nightly shows in the courtyard. Drinks at the pool bar are OK and they have frequent poolside service. Drinks at the lobby bar are excellent. They often have [... read more] a BBQ going at the snack bar with great roast chicken and burgers. You have access to all the other amenities at all the other hotels in the complex so there are lots of options for meals and entertainment. The a-la-cartes book up so you need to book as soon as possible. There are trolleys to take you to the beach and the other hotels and they come every 15 mins so it’s easy to get around but not a good place for anyone with significant mobility issues. The staff are really friendly and they keep the place very clean. Would recommend for those who want a quieter vacation with no kids.

Margaritaville Island Reserve Riviera Maya: Great resort

This hotel was clean, rooms were all centrally located. Food was amazing. Service was great, both in restaurants and pool side and front desk and concierge. Only downfall for some is there is no beach. We are pool people, so knew this when choosing this resort. Lots of areas to sit and get a lounge chair.

Grand Oasis Riviera: Dated but functional

The hotel has very goofy offerings and does not allow the Nexus representatives to be onsite. Carlos from Nexus works out of the welcome Center at the gate. The register ladies do not speak very good English and speak way to fast for proper understanding of hotel information. The hotel food was very good but certain all inclusive offerings are really limited

The room we were in was moldy smelling we did tell them but they didn’t care. No service around the pool at all. Would if been nice to have that at least and of course the chair game ever day, being a family resort you would think that the shows would be around 7took 3 days to get extra blanket I wouldn’t go there again

El Cozumeleno Beach: do not go to this resort!

I have been to Mexico, Cuba and Dominican several times. This resort by far was my worst experience. The food was scarce and consisted of mainly rice, and recycled chicken and beef. No sweet deserts were available, and locating a coffee cup, spoon or ketchup was a challenge. The entire resort stunk like a septic tank (literally waking us up during the night) and the rooms were moldy. The very worst was the toilet that leaked non stop, with no attempt to fix even after reporting this issue, thre [... read more]e times. The pools looked clean but one of the whirlpools was disgusting. The best part of the trip was that by some miracle we were not sick! lol

Planet Hollywood Adult Scene Cancun by Royalton: Not bad but not my scene

Travel: Flew with Sunwing/WS, no issues with leg room on flight. Did not check a bag so I did not have to wait for my bags to arrive. My friends came in with Air Canada and arrived at a different terminal and they took a private transfer on arrival. I took the included transfer with Sunwing and we didn’t leave the airport for 2.5 hours. My friends were at the hotel before I even left and then it was an hour to the hotel. I checked in around 4:30 and my room was ready on arrival. I was provided r [... read more]oom 14-106, a swim up with a king sized bed. Room: King sized bed with 4 pillows. Mini bar stocked with water, soda, and two Dos Equis. Lots of storage in the room, plus a safe and a steamer. Bathroom had two sinks, and a separated toilet stall and separate shower stall. Shampoo, body wash, conditioner, soap and body cream in bathroom. Hair dryer worked very well! No issues with hot water or water pressure. 4 towels, 2 hand towels and 3 face cloths on arrival. It was easy to set the AC and the fan.. having the AC set to a lower temperature and the fan going helped to keep the dampness at bay. Ground floor rooms can be a bit musty, but it was only uncomfortably damp/musty after a downpour one afternoon. Clients can request a dehumidifier, which can help. I did not request my room to be cleaned/made up as I was only there for 4 nights. Ordered room service one night off the late night menu, took 40 minutes to arrive. Pizza was so-so. Block 14 gets partial sun, 12 and 13 are shaded, and 15 and 16 are full sun. My friends rooms in block 15 had a warmer swim up pool and less musty of a smell. My swim up was definitely chilly, but I loved the private outdoor space and I also enjoyed the pool a few times. Cannot see ocean from room, and the buildings echo the noise from the pool so it’s not super relaxing. My room had a strange electrical panel that flashed a green light all night—occasionally the light would flash red. It was a bit annoying, but not enough to complain, though I did mention it at checkout. Having the swim up was honestly great—as an introvert who loves shade, it was a game changer for me. Next all inclusive we will be going the swim up route I think! Food: Adults scene gets two extra a la carte restaurants, Braza and Catch. They are also open for breakfast, as well as a la carte lunch. Food was generally ok to good, with a few items that really stood out. The chilaquiles at Braza for breakfast were good, as was the French toast. The Pico de Gallo, guac and chips at Catch for lunch were excellent. The Teppanyaki was the best a la carte dinner I had. I also ate at the Sushi (so so), Catch for dinner (lobster bisque was amazing, everything else was ok), the Steakhouse (good appetizers, but didn’t like the mains so much), the burger bar (when they made the veggie burger fresh, it was fine though it was a really long wait for food here), and the buffet (my least favourite, I did not enjoy the buffet at all—the buffet seemed especially small considering the number of guests that it serves). I would say the food was consistently fine—they were concerned about food allergies and asked every time we checked into a restaurant, and my Celiac friend was impressed with the care that they took. She was also provided an allergy card. Some of my friends did seem to have some issues with the food, and one got food poisoning or a noro-type bug that lasted 48 hours. Reservations for restaurants should be made early and can be requested through the app. Drinks: the wine at this resort was surprisingly fine. They had a decent merlot and cab sauv for reds, a nice chardonnay for whites (also a sauv blanc which I didn’t try), and the sparkling wine was nice and dry. I didn’t like the rose here, I found it too sweet. Mixed drinks seemed to be hit and miss and I found that the best mixed drinks were at the adults only lobby bar. They made a nice espresso martini there, and one night they made me a good Manhattan with Canadian Club ? the drinks at the family side were less consistent (the bars were much busier there), and they made my Manhattan with Jack Daniels (a travesty lol). They also made me a really nice non-alcoholic passionfruit slush at the beach bar (Marco at the beach bar was a delight). Entertainment and activities: the evening shows were alright (that we went to), daytime activities also alright. The disco here was actually pretty good. Most of the entertainment was on the family side—it could be hard to tell what the show was and when, and sometimes the listed entertainment and app didn’t match what was happening. Some of the shows were more popular than others (ie. The folklore show was my favourite, but barely had anyone watching, whereas the Michael Jackson show was packed to the brim). The lazy river was popular and there were a lot of sports to play on the family side. You could also pay extra for activities like the Flow Rider and that seemed popular. The gym was well received by my friends, and they attended a lot of fitness classes. There were aqua aerobics, games, Spanish classes, trivia, and dance lessons at the adults only pool. The pool: I didn’t go in the main pool at all because I had the swim up. We got chairs there one day (chair game is rampant at this hotel! I got up at 6am on my last day for my transfer, and people were down at the pool putting stuff on loungers). The water was pretty cold as they had just had two weeks of unseasonably cold temperatures. Poolside service was quick and friendly, lots and lots of towels to be had (no card or exchange system, but take what you want/need), and there’s a taco truck at the adults only pool which looked good but didn’t have a tonne of vegetarian options. The beach: the sand here is really nice and soft, just a bit of rocks going in. The water is beautiful and turquoise with fairly large waves and it’s a bit rough, especially when windy. Great walking beach! I didn’t see anything on the beach that made me concerned (I read reviews of manatee poop, crocodiles, jellyfish, etc.). Getting loungers were easy, getting loungers with an umbrella were not as easy but they will help you find one if you don’t get down early. Beachside service will bring you drinks, and the guys at the beach bar are also great. No issues with seaweed, there was a bit each day but really barely noticeable. The staff: every staff member I interacted with was lovely. Special shout out to Marco at the beach bar, as well as Fernando and Moises at Catch and Braza. Overall impression: this resort was a solid 4 star—I would not sell it as a true adults only given how much of the amenities are on the family side, and the vibe wasn’t super relaxing IMO. However would be a good option for multi-generational travel, and there doesn’t seem to be a huge difference in price between the sections. Internet worked oddly sometimes, WIFI was best near the lobby though you could still get it at the beach. It reminded me a lot of the new build Riu and Riu Palaces (some things better and some things not done as well). Not having the Star Class upgrade didn’t seem to negatively impact our experience, though they do have a preferred location for rooms and some of their swim ups are actually oceanfront, which I think would vastly improve the swim up experience. This resort is quite big! I easily did 10,000 steps a day just walking around the property. I would not repeat as the property is not my usual vacation style (also I almost never repeat resorts since there’s so much to try!), though I would love to come back to Costa Mujeres, which I think is the best of both worlds (less seaweed than Riviera Maya, not as commercialized as Cancun proper).

El Dorado Casitas Royale: El Dorado resorts do not disappoint

Gorgeous hotel - the grounds were impeccable, rooms lovely and food amazing. The staff went above and beyond every single day. Beautiful walkway to go from one end to the other. Fun activities and lots of bars and pools to choose from. Only negatives- charged for room service and charge for Bali beds (not the case at Seaside)

Iberostar Selection Playa Mita: Good enough

Pros: The service is superb. The beach and ocean here is beautiful. The staff was all really great to deal with. Cons: hotel is old. Rooms are small for the price. Entertainment was sub par. Overall expensive for what you get so I think there are better resorts.

Senator Riviera Cancun Spa Resort: Really enjoyed this

We really enjoyed this. Great food, great staff, a great time. I think they need to improve the booking system for their pickleball court, but that's a minor quibble. Overall, this was a terrific holiday.
