Sandals Royal Bahamian: Great vacation at an impressive resort

The resort itse[... read more]lf was beautiful, the gardens and grounds are amazing, food was good to very good, room (Windsor Honeymoon Grande Lux Club Level) was a good size and clean, bathroom was modern and great for us, the balcony was small but fine and view was overall good -- we could see part of the ocean and the swim up pool below us.
The pools were both good, we were by the quiet pool mostly but we were at the other pool a couple of times, and found the Playmakers fun and full of energy. Service at the pool bars was usually very good, slow once or twice the first day or two but after that it was great. We always wonder about the thoroughness of cleaning of the drink glasses at the pool bars, maybe more care could be taken there, but we have seen that at all the resorts -- possibly one of few weaker points of Sandals.
We found the staff very friendly and helpful. We seemed to run into Filius, the resort manager, a lot and he always spoke and was very personable.
The island was very nice as it was completely different from the rest of the resort. One of the highlights of the trip was swimming with the turtles off the back side of the island. Restaurant on the island was good for lunch, average for supper.
Restaurants -- for supper meals -- we enjoyed all meals at supper time, our favourite restaurant was Baccarat. Both meals there were great, however the sole the first night didn't look or taste the same as the second night, the first night was exceptional, The second night didn't have near as nice a presentation and was not as tasty. The signature beef dish was excellent. Kimonos was very good, we enjoyed the "show" put in by the chef at our table. The Crystal Room was very good. Casanova's was good, the anti pasta bar was great. Gordon's was good, but we were a little disappointed as we expected something exceptional as it had only been available to butler guests until recently. We had heard from other guests that the menu there had really changed and did not offer the high end meals that they used to, ex. King crab legs etc....We didn't eat supper at Cricketers or Spices.
Lunch -- we enjoyed the buffets at Spices -- thought the variety each day and the variety from day to day was great. One of the better buffets (lunch) of the resorts we have been at. Quality overall at the lunch buffets was very good.
Breakfast -- ate mostly at Spices -- variety and quality very good, Daphne at one of the omelet stations was friendly and made great omelets. We ate at Baccarat twice for breakfast -- first time was a little slow (which we expected) but food was excellent. Second time was our only complaint -- we ordered fruit plates to start and then main breakfast entrees. Because of an allergy in our party they said they would make up the fruit plates special -- which we expected. However after 40 minutes of waiting and no food in sight we asked about our fruit plates. They said they would get them right away, then a couple of minutes later our waiter came over and said they would have to get the fruit at Spices since the fruit plates for Baccarat were all made up and contained kiwi that day. A couple of minutes later our main breakfast entrees came, however they were cold and somewhat soggy -- it looked like they were cooked when the order went in and then set aside till we got our fruit plates, and then someone forgot to get our fruit at Spices. A few minutes later we got our fruit plates, this was about 50 minutes after our order went in.
Other waitresses / waiters we found exceptionally good or friendly were: Carleton at Gordon's, and Tamika, and Carlos at Spices.
The staff handled our allergy well. We went to see the culinary desk the second day and she already knew about the allergy. It wasn't long before she knew us by name and wanted to make sure she knew where we were eating each night so she could inform the chef.
We safely went off the resort most days enjoying morning walks / runs. We walked into Nassau one day, however you could take public transit in as well for $1.25.
Evening entertainment was good, we especially enjoyed the one man band and sax player.
Overall we really enjoyed the resort, we would rate it in the top three of the Sandals resorts we have been to.

Riu Palace Paradise Island: worth the money
overall experience was good. The beach and ocean were beautiful. The hotel itself was clean, nice pool and the food was great. the rooms are a bit outdated but wasn't an issue for us. had a beautiful view from our balcony overlooking the beach/ocean/atlantis. nice short walk to atlantis which was fun to see and experience. for the price we paid it was worth it.

Melia Nassau Beach Resort: Great Beach, Good value!
We found the resort to be friendly, clean, lovely grounds and the beach just fabulous! The only thing that annoyed us was the roped off area on the beach for the "level" guests. There was no one there so we sat down and were ushered off by security. It was embarrassing and left us with a feeling of being a lower class. We sat there not knowing it was a specially reserved area. That's a bit much don't you think? Anyways, overall, I'd recommend this resort. The food and the bar service was great!

Riu Palace Paradise Island: Nice resort
This is our third trip to the Riu on Paradise Island. The last time was before the renovations were done and to be honest it didn't look that much different. Some paint, a new restaurant, and a gym. The bar area was still much the same. I like the resort and the location but to call it a "Palace" is an overstatement. Since my husband had a mini stroke recently we purposely chose this location because it has very limited ground which meant very little walking needed so it fitted out need. The roo[... read more]ms are nice in all the Riu resorts as is the food and service. The pool is very small compared to other locations we've been to (e.g. Punta Cana) where there are several Rius close together. We enjoyed our vacation and would go back to this one but if we did not have the physical restrictions we'd rather go to the Carribbean since they're half the price and twice the size.

Viva Wyndham Fortuna Beach: It's a nice resort
After reading the reviews I was hesitant to book this resort, but I am glad I did, It is good for the money you pay. We cared more about the beach , swimming and sun than food. It was very clean , a solid three star, plenty of food but tasteless. We had to pick and chose from all the variety that the restaurant offers. One of the chefs was Italian and you would think pasta would be tasty, but it was always overlooked.! Don't bother booking the Pizza restaurant. It's not worth. We liked the Japan[... read more]ese restaurant and their menu.
Staff was friendly , the entertainment was good and al, the facilities we used were good. Tennis court was superb. It is nice that they try to keep the restaurant clean, but I couldn t stand the fact that there was always someone with the broom cleaning and picking up among the tables while people eating !
Another thing that I notice is the way the glasses (plastic!) at the bar are being cleaned! Very poorly, so I would suggest bring your own cup. Do not forget like we did !!

Memories Grand Bahama: Great food! Nice place
We were at the Memories Grand Bahamas from April 15-22. We previously cancelled a trip to Dominican Republic because I'm pregnant. The only place we could go that was Zika free was the Bahamas. We were going there with very little expectations since we read a lot of bad reviews about this place. We were surprised because it was a lot better than we expected. I mean, Bahamas is not tropical like Cuba, Dominican or Mexico. The weather was a bit chilly when we were there. Even the local said it was[... read more] unusual for this time of year. At night we needed a sweater. The hotel is older with carpet in the rooms but it's clean. We upgraded to ocean view with Balcony and we were very happy about that. Other couples with us had an island view room with no balcony and were ok with their rooms too. (you are only in there to shower and sleep). The food was amazing! Steakhouse, Japanese and Italian were all very good. Japanese you reserve in the morning. Steak and Italian you line up at 5:45 to get in. We were a group of 10 and it was never an issue. Buffet was always very good as well. No complaints on food and service. The bars always runs out of straws (it' hard to drink frozen drink with no straw) but we read it on other reviews and brought are own straws. It was all good. We were 5 couples. The guys played golf next door. Free unlimited green fees but mandatory cart fee of $48US per person. They all loved it. They said the golf course was beautiful. Chairs in buffet are stained and could use a nice steam clean wash, but it didn't bother the service and the amazing food. Small resort where everything is closed by. We loved it! All and all, no complaints about this hotel. Nice market across the street for all your shopping need. Great service! Great beach! Great food!

Viva Wyndham Fortuna Beach: Overall decent for value priced
When we arrived we were happy it was hot at the viva whyndam in Bahamas. We took a cab from the airport to be the bus of people and were checked in quickly. Our bags aware brought to our room by a nice guy. Our room was not good at all. There was mold in the corners in the bathroom. Bed was squeaky but comfortable. All linens were white and new. AC worked good but the room was like a cheap motel. There is newer renovated rooms if you want to pay for an up grade. We went to the cafe and bamboo re[... read more]staurant. They were both just ok. The buffet was really good for us. If you like rice veggies and proteins you can always find it. They have theme nights for food too like bbq night was grilled steak, Chinese night with sweet n sour chicken and spring rolls, Mexican night with tequila and burritos, roast ham like a Hawaiian night. We didn't go to pizza but everyone said it was good. There are no straws on the resort so if you want fancy drinks bring straws. The cappuccinos are amazing and I don't drink coffee. We did not do any excursions we just sat back and enjoyed the beautiful amazing beach. You can snorkel a small area off the beach and gear is free. There is a fair amount of seaweed patches in the water so bring water shoes if you want but there is sandy paths you can go to. Never an issue getting a chair at beach or pool area. We didn't make it to any of the night shows. Night life is not a big thing however there is a disco where animation team joins in every night. If you want quiet relaxing it's great. There is nothing around so if you want to shop you have to pay a cab to take you there. We stayed at memories too down the road. I would stay at viva for the food and beach and memories for amenities and restaurants. Can't say enough about the beach it is beautiful. If that's what you want you will get it here. I'm happy for the price we paid and what we got but I'm not a princess either. It's a 3* and that's what you will get in Bahamas. Same as a 4+ in Dominican or Cuba.

Memories Grand Bahama: Excellent resort
The room was in great shape. The maid was friendly and the daily cleaning was impeccable. The grounds were well kept, the pool was cleaned daily. The buffet was excellent, with lots of choice. The service was a little slow, but that's "Bahamian time": stop and slow. The drinks were strong, the club and casino were great. The marketplace had plenty to choose from as well. Finally, the beach was excellent, and the water was a brilliant blue with lots of fish.

Memories Grand Bahama: Slightly disappointed
The resorts is older which typically isn't an issue for us, however it is not well maintained. Our room was carpeted and smelled very heavy of smoke. We requested it be vacuumed but it was never done. Maintenance of this resort overall has not been kept up over the years. There are many things that can be improved upon. Pool was not well kept - and didn't seem to be cleaned daily. We're beach people and thought the beach was lovely. We didn't have issues finding a chair (however we're early bird[... read more]s). Service was NOT as good as we hoped. "Service with a smile" is a concept lost over here ... so is timeliness of service. We could only praise 5 servers from the entire trip that deserved it. The evening shows were horrible to put it nicely. We attended for a wedding which was very nice, however most of the pre-wedding work was done by the bride herself. I felt bad as the bride and groom apologized to their 20+ guests on their selection (mostly due to the poor service). Overall we're very disappointed with this resort.

Memories Grand Bahama: Beautiful beach, but filthy hotel
The beach that this resort is on is simply amazing, beautiful and long. The pool on the other hand was nothing to write home about, and the water looked dirty. Unfortunately, the so called 4 star resort was filthy. Yes we knew it was an older resort, and yes we knew the bathrooms would be small, but nobody said anything about the filth. The buffet was the worst. Cushions on the chairs were so dirty, I didn't want to sit on them. The food was ok, better than Cuba, Mexico or Dominican.
