Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Amazing resort

Ground and public area were very beautiful but no housekeeping service at all. We were very disappointed, no towels, no water. We called the front desk many time without any result. The restaurant was clean but no vegan options are available. I will never recommend it to any of my family and friends

The reception area was inviting and clean., nice atmosphere. The grounds were amazing well kept. The pools were good. Rooms were ok. 3 stars. Food fair. Alacates were fine. Room service was bad. Loved their cappachinos, were amazing. There was food sortages eg coke, butter etc.

Melia Jardines del Rey: Mosquito is everywhere

We had lots of bites even we sprayed off repelant, my partner has dengue fever right now and recovering. Food is avg and beach is ok. I dnt understand the mosquito problem. They only spray on the lobby area as in my 7 days bring there, they never sprayed on the units where mosquitos are everywhere.

Melia Las Antillas: Great resort.

We really enjoyed this resort. The beach was stunning. We walked for hours each direction every day. The food and drinks were Soo good!! Make sure you have a bloody marry from the beach bar , and the mojitos were delicious! We didn’t have a chance To do any of the alacart restaurants but the buffet was really good. Their fresh buns were to die for. They also had this fried chicken that was sooo good , and beef Wellington one night ! The staff here are all amazing. Very helpful. I think the only thing we didn’t enjoy about the resort is the sharks , they have 3 sharks they keep in this gross smoggy stinky pond. Doesn’t seem very humane.

Melia Jardines del Rey: Stay with caution

Stayed at the hotel January.2024. On the plus side hotel rooms have abundant hot water and amazing a/c in the rooms. Shortages are dire. Low drinking water supply in rooms. Ran out of so much food. We are used to Cuban food being somewhat poor but were always able to find something to eat. Buffet was scarce. Prepare to be hungry. Mosquitos are out of control. We were swarmed day and night. It’s honestly a health hazard. Bathrooms were deplorable and toilet paper always empty. I have never seen Cuba like this. Hotel staff were good they changed our room no problem. One was having plumbing issues. Housekeeping are very good better than we had in Mexico. Great workers that way. Many staff struggle with English. It’s not common in Cuba to have so many staff not able to talk English. My family has been to Cuba many times but will not go back again till things are rectified. Not really faulting the hotel as much as the situation in Cuba.if you are looking for a wonderful vacation spend a little more and go elsewhere Cuba is not what it used be sadly

Melia Las Antillas: Great time at this resort!

Very nice resort. A little dated , needs a bit of work in some areas .Rooms were clean , maid service was good. All the staff were very friendly. Always a smile and a greeting. We thought the food was good. We are not picky eaters but we were happy with food. The A la Cartes were very good. Our favorite was the Italian. Gorgeous beach and pool area very nice. We would recommend this Resort.

Melia Cayo Coco: I got eaten alive by bugs

Beautiful resort but I can never go back - I got eaten alive by mosquitoes and all kinds of flies. I’ll only go to Iberostar Selection Varadero going forward . Also. Adults drink and are super loud - couldn’t rest. Staff is second to none. Entertainment is weak except for the sax players . Thanks !

Melia Marina Varadero: The worst resort ever

This resort is suck a scam. We arrived at 1pm after a long flight, been up since 8am, when we are at the hotel, they told us we had to wait til 4pm to check in to the room since they have no rooms available, food was trash, flies are everywhere, hotel management was very rude, lots of rude staff, they were trying to harassing me, just because I bought a friend with me, she came to visit me in my room, however, they refused to let her come visit me, even though I already paid for the room, they w [... read more]ant me to pay another extra 900usd to just have her staying in my room. I refused to pay that, and they harass me and my friend until she pays, they breach the hotel privacy rules, sending 3-4 guys standing in front of my door, trying to break in, one of the guy was constantly leaning on my hotel door, trying to listen to the conversations we had inside the room. After this, they pretend that there’s something wrong with the light in the room and sent two security guards inside and try to drag my friend out, We are two foreign girls who just arrived in a brand new country and they are treating us like criminals.

Paradisus Rio De Oro: Royal Service lives up to its name

At Paradisus Rio de Oro, the Royal Service is worth the extra money. It is essentially a 65-room boutique hotel adjacent to the much larger main Paradisus complex. Guests are able to use all the facilities of the main complex as well as the following key benefits of Royal Service: a private beach with a bar; a private pool area with 3 small separate pools that are adjacent to 2 bars and the private restaurant; all meals at the Royal Service are a la carte; food was excellent at all 3 meals with  [... read more]attentive staff; a daytime and an evening butler service that would also arrange meals at the main complex; a very large and well appointed room with a fridge stocked with water, beer and soft drink; free wifi in the room, around the pool and restaurant; beautifully landscaped grounds with lots of butterflies and birds. We also enjoyed several live shows at the main complex that started at 930 pm and lasted 45 minutes.

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Great Time

I was impressed by the amount of shows and entertainment the resort featured. On top of a nightly show, bands showed up at restaurants and at the pool, so there was always some pleasant surprises. There were some food shortages, but I was satisfied with our meals given the expectations one usually has for Cuba. Beautiful beach and very friendly staff - it truly was 10 days of Paradise.

Melia Las Americas: Absolutely amazing!

This was our first trip to Cuba, and it won't be our last. Melia las americas was absolutely beautiful. We stayed in the level bungalows with a beautiful garden view, but of course you could still see the ocean. The room was amazing, 2 floors, 2 balconies, one on each level. The staff were very friendly and the food was very good. We had no shortages of anything. They had live entertainment which was great, the band was super. We were there for one week from October 15 to the 22nd, 2023.  [... read more]We did NOT want to leave, Melia las americas is just so relaxing and paying extra for the level is so worth it. Exclusive restaurants and even 2 pools just for level guests. We had asked for extra Cafe pods for our room and never had any problem getting them. Again, the staff was amazing. We stayed in bungalow #6125, it was right beside the level pool/bar. Super easy to get anywhere on the resort from our room. Definitely going to be asking for that same bungalow again, was a perfect spot for us. This will be the only resort we will go to, yes it was that amazing!

Melia Jardines del Rey: Awesome place.

The hotel keeps getting better each time I go. There are many places to find quiet or fun, as the property is huge. We danced every night, which is why I keep going back. The staff are kind, respectful and very helpful. There was always food to eat and enjoy, but I do not go to Cuba for food. The beach is long but has been impacted by hurricanes over the years. Walking on the beach in either direction results in nature only landscapes. I recommend and am already planning my return trip.

Sol Rio de Luna y Mares: My favorite resort

This was my second time in this resort, two years in a row. The same feeling of being welcome and valued guest. The resort is well managed, staff are friendly and attentive, the beach is one of the best I have seen. There were food shortages however they were well compensated with other items. No eggs, plenty of shrimps and sea food. There is generally a good feel there. No drunk guests, parties enjoyed by all. Lots of returning guests, which means something. I will keep returning

Melia Cayo Santa Maria: Painfully Honest Review-Would Not Return

I'll start with saying that our expectations were that the beach would be beautiful and the food would be "meh". Everyone knows that you don't go to Cuba for the food, but for the beaches. The Good - There are two stand out points - The beach is simply the most beautiful stretch of beach I have ever seen and the staff is wonderful. There are several resorts along this stretch, but you can still walk for a very long stretch. That brings up the point that there is always lounge chairs to be had. There is no coral along this stretch, so it's perfect for swimming. Not so much for snorkling. I can't say enough about the cleaning services and wait staff. They were all wonderful and helpful. And work very hard. We did the private catamaran excursion that was offered. This was absolutely fantastic. We had the boat to ourselves, went to the dolphinarium, had a fresh lobster lunch that was provided by our hosts (one of them actually swam down and picked the lobsters from the trap), went snorkeling and got to visit Iguana Beach (yes it really had wild Iguanas that we fed lobster to). Definitely recommend as it was the highlight of our trip. The Bad - The rooms are definitely in need of some serious repair and generally run down. Our room seemed to have suffered from some flooding at some point and there was alot of water damage to the bottom of the doors. The bathroom door was so bad that about 3 inches of the bottom was warped and disintegrating. The toilet in our children's bathroom didn't work properly most of the time and it had to be fixed twice. The beds were old and hard. The pillows had stains on them. One had large blood stains. We didn't let this affect our trip in any way. We could look past it as you don't spend alot of time in the room anyways.   Now for the Ugly - Unfortunately, the ugly was very ugly. On day 2 the resort became jammed packed. This in itself wouldn't have been a bad thing if they were tourists and the resort was prepared. It turned out that they were locals and ALOT of them. We learned that the Melia resorts have started to host certain groups of locals for music festivals held at the One Gallery Hotel that is down the road. The more well off locals are offered a discounted price to stay for the festival and are bussed in. They took over the entire resort. The majority of this group behaved in a terribly entitled way and placed excessive demands on the staff and food supply. There were two days during our stay that we actually had to fight for food. The buffet doors had lines before it opened and you had to wait for more than an hour just to get inside. When you did, there were literally crumbs left. The other food venues were tapped out. You couldn't get a table or food to take away for hours at a time. The locals would send one member of their family and order 20+ sandwiches/omelets...or whatever was served at a time. Mulitply that by 20 families. If the staff didn't wait on them, they would treat the staff horrbily. It was very difficult to watch. After about 3 days they were all gone and the quiet resumed. When asked, reception informed us that there will be more events such as this and it was not a one time event. Apparently, the next one is in February. This is the only reason why i have given Service only 2 Stars. Lastly, both me and my husband ended up with food poisoning. I do think that the resort being so short on food played a role in us getting sick. Luckily, there is a doctor kept on staff who assessed us and was able to provide gravol injections. We were very thankful for this.

Melia Las Dunas: Over rated resort

December 20th to January 3rd, 2024 I’ve been to this hotel 21 times since 2018 obviously the hotel went down during the closure in 2020 and 2021 and is having difficulty getting back to the 4 star status. The hotel needs major renovations and the grounds have been neglected, there are not enough workers to keep up the work. There is a lack of fuel therefore a lack of employees, they work very long shifts and do the best they can. There is too much lack in everything. The public areas  [... read more]are clean but the lobby washrooms are terrible usually no toilet paper and most the the toilets don’t flush properly. Night drinks in the lobby are served in flimsy plastic glasses, the staff are told to say there are no glasses but they have glasses during the day! The rooms are descent but need work, no hot water for showers (this has been an ongoing problem) I was told that the hot water is turned on for a couple of hours in the morning and at supper time. During my 2 week stay I had hot water, not boiling hot twice. My showers were luke cold or cold. The telephones in the room do no work. The meals in the buffet, in the trays are cold, even when the trays are replenished the food is cold. To have a hot meal in the buffet we have to stand in a long lineup. The entertainment music is very, very loud, even with ear plugs the music was loud. So it’s boom, boom. boom from the center lobby, boom, boom boom from the kids theatre and boom. boom, boom from the Music Festival publicity for December 30 & 31and the Disco was opened at the Plaza Estralla so the hotel closed their hotel disco. The entertainment team was trying to get everyone to go the the Disco & Music Festval $$, I was told that there would not be any entertainment at the hotel. I spoke the Acting manager, he said he would speak to a higher up. Thursday, Dec 28th there was no entertainment and no music, the dancers and some entertainment went to the disco. Friday, 29th the show was a bit earlier then they went to the disco. Saturday, 30th no entertainment, no show. Sunday, New Year’s Eve management decided at 3pm to have a New Year’s Eve party. They had a show and the music was full blast all night. 2023 there were 3 Music Festivals (that I know of) which attracts more local cubans who are rude disrespectful, yell, take over the place. I was told there will be more music festivals. Christmas and New Year’s Eve, the locals take plates full of food to put in their bags to take home, they are triple thick in front of the buffet counters, I could not even see what was in the trays and the cooked meat lineup to the end of the food counters, they were leaning against them with their hair hanging over the food. New Year’s Eve supper I had 5 small bananas! I later went for a sandwich at the 24hr snack bar. The higher management has decided to go towards the music festivals and the regaeton music/ dancing. This type of music is for the younger generation even the animation team is geared to this music. The hotel had 2,000 guests for New Years, they cannot handle that many guests. We had to wait in long lines to get into the buffet most nights and was worse Christmas and New Years. All power went off one night in all the hotel at supper time, they do not have a backup generator or do not have fuel to operate it. Everyone gathers to the lobby, there were only 2 bartenders to serve everyone, later there was a 3rd one added. The 3 bartenders were working with the flashlights on their phone so see. There was a small emergency in a corner and another one in the office. The power went out at supper time in November also. I arrived at midnight, the next night ‘greeters’ came to ask for a review. One night my handicapped friend went to get a cart to take him to his room, there were no available carts, he had to walk with one leg and a cane in the rain to go to his room. I cannot go to a hotel that caters to the local uneducated cubans and to the younger generation with full blast music any more . Sadly, I had to say goodbye to my many friends that I have made over time. Sunwing, the plane as delayed at least one hour departure from Montreal. There were 4 plane arrivals at the Villa Santa Clara airport. Needless to write customs was packed. Return flight also delayed, this time there were 6 planes departing, the lineup to check in was horrendous. My plane was supposed to be 4th to leave, they put it last.

Melia Peninsula Varadero: Tired looking resort

We stayed here five years ago and had a good experience so we thought we would go again. Unfortunately the resort was rundown. Rooms didn’t lock. Mattress very old and lumpy. Food is just okay but we didn’t expect too much in that area. Definitely book the restaurants if you go for fresher food. After 3 when lunch closes at main buffet you only have the pool bar for limited fried foods. Pool was lovely and beach as always amazing.

Lots of variety at the buffet but it’s like a 40 minute wait for an omelet if your hotel even has eggs (heard lots of them didn’t). Lots of food shortages, couldn’t get a pina colada my entire week there to save my life :( Mostly just lemonade or coke to mix with hard alcohol or you’re drinking beer/wine the whole time. Tipping $5 USD is the only way to keep servers serving you or else you have to go stand at the bar. Lobby is pretty and that’s good because it’s the only place that we could connect to wifi.

Melia Trinidad Peninsula: Amazing resort!!!

We stayed in this hotel for one week just before Christmas. The hotel is brand new. I was very clean, and the staff very friendly. I love this modern look: very nice furniture, light fixture, lots of resting areas, bars and restaurants. Room very bright, clean, spacious with quit big balcony with great view on the ocean and mountains. Sometimes it was too cold in the room. Melia Internacional: could have been good

Stayed at International with my wife December 1-7, 2023. We have been in Varadero few times, Holgin and Cayo Coca, all before Covid. Here is story. I'll add 1 star for the amount and quality of entertainment. It was nice. Not too many chairs. So, you probably will be standing, but it was nice. People were nice except one bartender in a blue bar, but all are nice. A long nice beach and beautiful water as you would expect to see in Varadero. BTW, you can walk to the town, it is not too far. Upon [... read more] arrival we were not grated with any drinks. Yet when we were leaving they have expected a big group to arrive, some sort of colourful cocktails were waiting for them. We were given the room right away. that was nice. Room was in the 6 floor and overlooking the HWY and bay. It was nice as as the pool with load music was the other way. Some lights and fan in the washroom have never worked. We did not complain. TV was great. AC has two options cold or off. It has digital thermostat, but they would control the temperature in the hotel, just like in China they do. The AC makes the temperature, but pushing the moisture back to your room. So, it is cold and wet. Now the ugly. The first day we went for lunch into the buffet, it stinks so bad in the area they've fried some fish I could not come closer to investigate. We avoided that corner. A guy has handled raw and cooked fish with the same tool. One day there was a strong sewer stink everywhere, your room, buffet, beach. - minus one star for the stink, unsafe buffet described above. The beach: Nobody collect garbage. Don't give people straws. I had to clean around out loungers myself one day. Was just too much. People staying at the Level has their portion of the beach segregated. Would be still OK. But, why they have 2/3 of the beach there are ~ 20% of them? - minus one star for the beach issues described above. BTW you provide service only for the Level portion of the beach. I am OK with it. But, few Cubans could have made a living serving. Somehow they do not need to work. There no shortages for people staying at the Level. It is OK to give more to people who paid more. So, I didn't pay for butter, champagne and normal food and people at Level did? - minus one star for unjust food and beach situation described above. One nights the lights in the room went up and down and up again at 3:30 a.m. The second night was the same but plus some noise just outside our door. Electric was trying to fix something. I've turned off the breaker disconnecting the AC and power and tried to get some sleep. In the morning I went to the Customer Service. She looked at me like deer in headlights. After a short interrogation, she has admitted and had record that the work was done as guests in the room near by have complained on some lost power. She could not understand what is the problem as I did not call her at 3:30 a.m. and did not complain - so there was no problem or apologies. - minus one star for not letting me sleep for 2 nights. There were few other minor incidents that would account for another lost star. So, 6-4=2 stars -

Melia Buenavista: Not A 5 Star By Any Means

This place was so run down that it was not a 5 star by any means.Breakfast was a night mare the flies were terrible and we had no eggs for days which breakfast consisted of toast bread and lunch meats,cheese and fruits.The unit we stayed in was not what i expected from a 5 star resort.The safe was useless and every drawer in the walk in closet was broken or missing which forced us to carry our important documents with us at all times not a comforting feeling while on vacation.The food was not al [... read more]l that great but we were not there for the food if i wanted great food i would stay home.The beaches were awesome even thought it was very windy for the first three days so swimming in the ocean was very hard.The people at the resort were great very respectful and always helping in any ways.The electrical standards in this resort is very poor here in Canada that resort would be closed down in a hear beat.Many lights were burned out and switches and receptacles were so worn out and broken that the cords for lights and our chargers would always fall out of the receptacles.The patio door was off its track and had a 4 inch gap at the top of the door allowing bugs into the room.
