We stayed at Rooms Negril for 3 days prior to Christmas 2014 and received a fantastic deal considering the time of year (can't complain!!). The room was very simple and all that we needed considering most of our time was spent outdoors however lighting is poor and you have to pay for WiFi. The downside is that breakfast took a long time to be served and there are no instructions of how it works, you have to figure it out for yourself (a sign would be helpful). It's continental style so most of i[... read more]t is bread. There are options to purchase food from a different lunch/dinner menu however we never did. We would go to "Sweet Spot" across the street and order there. The food was delicious and much cheaper than at the resort. We ate there every night ($6 for two of us!!) then bought our beverages and snacks at the store across the street from Sweet Spot (up a bit). The beach was beautiful and the water was clear. Very nice to take a walk, etc. Overall, our stay at the resort was quiet and comfortable. The staff were also nice. We would stay at Rooms again...but in Ocho Rios next time to see that side of the Island.

Hotel Los Cactus: Great trip but everything is "Okay"
I've have been to one other resort in Punta Cana which was also a 4 star so I'm basing my review in comparison to that. First, I had a great time the weather was great and my travel companions made everything we did from waiting in the airport to waiting for a table at the buffet a blast. However, when I reflect on my experience at Ocean Blue everything at Breezes Varadero was just not as good. Not that it was bad, just not as good.
The positives:
- Entertainment staff were excellent, they did [... read more]a great job trying to get people out of their chairs and have some fun.
- There didn't seem to be much of a line to order drinks
- Room was very clean, good air conditioning, quite comfortable
- Beach is amazing, beautiful white sand, very clean
- Could always find a lounge chair on the beach
- Burgers at the Beach bar (but where are the nachos, popcorn, chips, or something else to snack on? I would have loved some plantain chips)
The negatives:
- Compared to Punta Cana the food just wasn't great. The A La Cartes were pretty good but still nothing like I had in Punta Cana. I'm not very picky at all and I really like to eat but I never felt inclined to go for seconds.
- Everything is a bit weathered
- Gym was missing a lot of equipment, some didn't work
- No swim-up bar
- Some friends in a different block clearly had some issues with mold/musty smell in their room
The could go either ways:
- Not a lot of people at the resort (could be a + for some)
- Definitely not a party resort
Depending on the experience you want to have and what you are willing to spend I would recommend this resort to someone who doesn't care much about food and just wants to relax all day on the beach.

Hotel Bella Costa: Staff is excellent!
We had a large group all family members ranging from 4-65 yrs. the hotel was comfortable in a great area and the staff was extremely accommodating. The beach was in close proximity and was gorgeous. The kids enjoyed the water sports and really loved the crew that ran the boats etc. Our maid was wonderful everyone loved her and the staff for dinner upstairs at Jimmy Buffets was excellent and entertaining . The shows were fun and the food good for Cuba. The only complaint we would have would be th[... read more]e lunch was very busy downstairs at the buffet the lines sometimes too long and the beAch area could use more removal of cigarette butts. Royalton Negril Resort And Spa: Great Vacation
We stayed at this hotel December 8 - 22, 2014 and had an excellent time. The Beach is stunning; the food was excellent; the rooms older; however very clean and pleasant; the staff were very friendly and helpful. Only issue that we had is that the hotel was over booked and we ended up with a cove room even though that was not where we booked. We found that there were several other couples that were in the cove rooms and had not booked on that side either. The hotel had the excuse that they were o[... read more]ver booked and that they could only accommodate us there - I feel that they should not have offered the room as a non- cove room if they were unable to supply. We were disappointed that we were on the cove side as that is not our taste; however we made the best of it and would definately return to this resort but would make it very clear that a cove room would not be acceptable.

Sunscape Curacao Resort: Beach vacation ruined
Thank you very much for your follow up regarding our trip. We did some scuba diving, which was awesome; as well we spent a day in Williamstad. For the most part, we had a good time, mainly due to the mostly excellent service and friendly staff. There were however, a few disappointments.
1. Beach - not sure if you were aware, but it was under construction for 5 of the 7 days we were there and that was because they did not work on Sunday's. Given that was our travel days we did not get a chance to[... read more] enjoy the beach at all. They were trucking in sand and regrading beach. The noise from the heavy equipment was unbearable. It was like being in the middle of a construction site in downtown Toronto! If we had known, we would have gone somewhere else.
2. Snorkelling at the resort and water sport activities such kayaking, canoeing, etc. - not only was the beach being dugout, they were dredging the protected/lagoon area and repairing the breakwall. Therefore the water was so murky one could not see anything while snorkelling. Also, as a result of the dredging, non-motorized water sports were very limited as you would have to stay away from the extreme large machineries.
If it hadn't been for the friendly staff, our rating would be "zero"! We would recommend this resort since the beach construction is now done.
What we are asking is for reimbursement of 2 of the 7 days per person for the beach and lagoon areas not being available. We believe this is a fair request as we did enjoyed the rest of the resort.

Memories Jibacoa: Good experience overall
Let's start with the positives. The Staff at Breezes Jibacoa are excellent. Particularly Naidy at the front desk. The food and entertainment were excellent and the Rexort has many amenities. The guide on the trip to Havana was very informative. The resort has a great reef accessible right from the Beach. I saw some tropical fish I had not seen before. This was the primary reason for me coming.
On the downside, the Beach was often closed in the afternoon (3 days out of 7) due to Jellyfish. The B[... read more]each itself is not great for swimming as it is more rocky than Sandy. Also. The Cuban electrical system is 220 and the converter box in the room didn't work well. I ruined a clock and stopped plugging or recharging anything.
The Ocean View rooms are obstructed by trees and Cabanas. Not a big deal
The biggest pblm by far is Sunwing. The trip from Vancouver gets in to Cuba at 3.45 am. You get to the resort about 5;30 am. Their.
Checkin only begins 4 hrs from Deoarture. Don't bother with the automated machines. None of us got it to read our passports and it doesn't print baggage tags so all you do is lose your place in line. I spent an hour.
The transfer Bach as at 1:15am for a 3:45 flight. Or should have been. The Bus showed up on time and the Driver indicated I wasn't on his list. I asked him to check this but he indicated he had to get going. The front desk called Sunwing and they said to wait until 2 am and see if anybody shows up. They had no idea. The front desk called at 2 and they detoured a Bus at 2:20.
I would not have made this flight if the 3:45 flight hadn't left until 5 am. The Boarding process involved the Agent calling out "Ok Vancouver, let's go"
Cuba and Jibacoa was fun, but Sunwing is not a very good Operator. Look for other options

Hotel Bella Costa: Wonderful staff, good food and plenty of sun
This hotel is older, however it's very clean and the staff are absolutely fantastic. The beach was great for younger children to play on, and had enough waves to keep the older ones entertained as well. The pool was nice too, but I'm a salt water type of person so preferred being on the clean well kept beach. The food was good. It isn't perfect, but honestly it's good. The kids were happy with the choices, there was plenty of it and everything was decent. Not fine dining but I wasn't looking for[... read more] fine dining anyways...we never had trouble finding something yummy to eat and if you're really picky, there's always the pasta bar at which you can get your pasta made to order. Overall a great resort. Hospitality was great, all the employees were nice and friendly. Well maintained and clean. Food was great, did not need to book reservations for any of the al la carte restaurants and were always accessible. Definitely a couple oriented hotel, the entertainment was consistent with that vibe. Great spot if you are looking for a low-key spot with your special one. Beach was very clean.

Hotel Los Cactus: Charming
Breezes is a very charming resort. Beautiful beach. Close to town. Met some very nice people. Food ok. Take mosquito repellant and bubba mug. Shows are very good and only one hour long. I've been to many all inclusives and found them too large and crowded. Breezes varadero is small and very well laid out, 5 minutes and you'll be where you want to go. Royalton Negril Resort And Spa: The staff are the strongest asset of this resort
My husband and I selected this resort because of a 'resort credit' they were offering, this turned out to be false advertisement. Sunwing refused to take responsibility eventhough they endorsed this promotion on their website. The sunwing rep on site was never at her post and was not very helpful.
The manager at the resort was very personable and the staff were fantastic, friendly, happy and engaged.
Beach: 3/4 - lots of chairs but in poor condition, loved the floaters that were available to add[... read more] a little cushioning to the hard plastic and to float in the ocean.
Resort overall - in need of a refresh, old chairs, furniture and decor - time for a facelift, loved that it was for adults only. The pool is small and there was no pool bar or beach bar. The resort should also consider a beach snack bar that offers patties, burgers and the like.
Food - 3/4 - loved the insomnia cafe, great coffees including specialty coffee, place was opened 24 hours and the staff were awesome
Entertainment - 3/4 - loved the live music, better than cheezy entertainment typically offered at all inclusive resorts
Best bartender - Keron Buchanan (polite, professional and very good at his job!)
We enjoyed our vacation because of our positive interaction with the staff. The resort has potential but seriously needs updating.
May return if the price is right.....

Jewel Runaway Bay Resort: Resort trip with pluses and minuses
RE: BOOKING NUMBER – 72995783
Regarding my recent trip to Jewel Runaway Bay Resort, I have the following comments, which are complaints as well as suggestions, but generally resulted in a disappointing trip.
The Elite service on the way out was satisfactory, as was the flight until the food service where I took one item and my son the other. Both proved to be awful, making me wish I had just got a cold sandwich at the Toronto airport. Watching a movie on that small screen 3 rows back was hopel[... read more]ess. We were advise we would arrive ½ hour early, great until we were ferried to the buses for transport to the resort where there seemed to be a lot of confusion as the 7 of us waited for some action. We were boarded onto a large bus where we sat breathing diesel for over 1 ½ hours. A transfer to the hotel literally took 3 hours arriving at the front desk at 4:45pm. The front desk personnel definitely lacked any friendliness, and we all had to stand around front desk trying to get service. However, the next day while in the front desk area, arrivals were seated in comfortable chairs, given hot towels and front desk personnel came to them. Two parties were overheard requesting upgrades, and both were granted without question, which makes me wonder what was wrong with us.
We arrived at our room passing many great looking rooms, the classification PREMIER was definitely misused. Things only got worse when opening the patio door we were overlooking a construction site, about which we had received no notice or indication this was going on. A number of us went back to the front desk to seek alternative accommodation before unpacking but were told nothing was available, period. This seemed totally contradictory to the number of guests (few, definitely not full) we saw later that evening and next morning throughout the hotel. The resort grounds, pools, beaches, lobby, and eating areas were all well maintained and the staff including the cleaning lady, restaurant staff, grounds keepers, and entertainment staff were all fantastic and were the main attribute of this resort that stands out in my mind. Unfortunately, other issues of infestation of mosquitoes, flies, ants and wasps throughout the stay were absolutely annoying to the extent of wearing long pants at night. I had over 20 bites on one leg in two days and had to avoid wasps as my son is allegoric to their bites. One of our group had indicated that prior to an ownership change in the last 2 years, the resort used to fog daily but not now. Considering the concern over mosquitoes in the Caribbean, you would think more action would be taken.
My overall opinion of the food was very poor, not what I had expected, with all meals other than breakfast being a challenge to enjoy something. Even the hamburger outlet proved to be a grease burger with little flavour. The friendly lady at the pizza outlet proved to be a godsend for some eatable enjoyment and her friendliness, always jovial. Even the sandwich on the golf course proved to be better than the hotel.
Back to the room which was small compared to other locations where I have flown with Sunwing including Cuba. The washroom felt like you were sitting/squashed in an airline washroom. It took forever to get hot water in the basin, and I had to call maintenance as shower was always cold, to find out the taps were mislabelled and presto hot water eventually came. We could not leave clothes on patio due to construction dust and even sitting out there to play cards and have a drink proved impossible. I called about the air conditioning, which was set at 20 degrees, but it was certainly not that level in the room, which the maintenance chap agreed, when I called for im arriving with a screwdriver and after ½ hour could do nothing to help besides saying to leave it and see if it gets better.
The return transfer to airport was much speedier than the arrival. The plane was an older model with narrower seats even with ELITE service, providing little comfort. No champagne service on return, no big deal. Noone had said keep earphones for the return flight so I had left them on the plane on arrival, so I was out of luck, but then you show an animated movie “How To Train Your Dragonâ€, are you kidding this is 99% adult flight. Again good news, we were arriving 20 minutes early. The confusion on trying to find the carousel with our bags, while not Sunwings’ fault was confusing with two separate arrivals from Montego Bay. ELITE service did not seem to work on return the best way. Three out our 7 golf bags did not turn up. After close to an hour we were filling paperwork in at the Sunwing lost baggage desk, with a number of young ladies providing hopeless service in doing that job versus answering the telephone when we were all upset. Paperwork complete the others were on there way out when we got advised, three bags had been found. Fortunately, we were able to catch our out of town friends in time. Again while not necessarily Sunwing’s fault, it is strange all oversized baggage went on together yet 3 get lost, but your lost baggage staff in my opinion could certainly do with some customer service training considering the stress one is under losing luggage.
My bottom line is thank god for the servers, who were taken care of well with the service and enjoyment they provided in a rather negative vacation trip. I would return there but only with some changes particularly in the culinary area, regardless of being in and trying Jamaican, we still like some home style grub now and again. Kudos to my large lady friend at pizza bar who should be put to the front desk as a greeter that one would never forget.

Hotel Bella Costa: best holiday ever!
This was my first trip to Cuba and it has exceeded my expectations. Breezes bella costa was awesome. The food is absolutely amazing and by far better then any other resort in Varadero. I spoke with many ppl from other resorts and their food was not a good experience. We had lobster weekly and fresh fish made daily as well as the amazing freshly made thin crust pizzas. The beaches are amazing at this resort abd stretch for miles. I recommend staying in villa they are awesome.
The staff are on a w[... read more]hole new level of awesome here and everyone is so much fun. We had amazing shows every single night and they were incredible. The water ballet show was amazing. Plus we got lucky and saw Massari live our first night there. There are two good clubs near by one being next door and its like a 5 minute cab ride into Varadero. Few tips: exchange your money at the airport or at the banks as the exchange rate is not regulated at the resorts so they are not as good. Cab into town is 10 pesos however u might as well get them to call you a cadillac as its the same rate and so much more fun to ride in a classic car. The hotel rooms are a bit old but how much time do u plan on being in your room lol. I recommend calling ahead once you book and request either a ocean view room corner room or a villa. I can't wait to come back to this resort!!!
Also this resort has the huge and only golf course. Its free but u just have to pay for the cart. Clubs are there and are free.
Very family friendly resort and there were tons of people of all age ranges which made it really fun.
**buy your rum and cigars at the airport in your way home..its cheaper and packed nicely for your flight!
