Everything was really good. Variety of food, service, rooms, all bar drinks were authentic,
What needs to be improved is cooking of fish and seafood on electro countertop.
Definitely, cooks need more training. Less stinky oil, cleaning of the top from previous cooking, etc.
Gala nights were exceptional!
Would I return to this hotel, probably not, because I like to try different every time.
But I’d recommend it.

Royalton Bavaro Resort and Spa: Excellent!!!
We went there to celebrate my daughter’s 10th birthday and everything was amazing. We loved everything about the resort. Thank you so much for making lots of unforgettable memories and a woNderful vacation for us. We loved the swim up bars at the pools and also the beautiful lazy river. The surfing was a great experience for my daughter and me, we used the water park at Royalton resort which is very close to Royalton Bavaro and we had so much fun there and we could eat lunch there by our day p[... read more]ass. The entertainment, salsa dance at the beach, white night beach party, foam party, food, and all other things were great!
The only thing is that there was a lot of weeds at the beach so I did not really like to go swimming in the ocean.
We did not have diamond club and still enjoyed lots of drinks, foods, entertainment and so much more. I did not see any much difference with having it! Go there and enjoy your vacation at paradise!

Royalton Hicacos Resort and Spa: Beware!!
SUNWING should be ashamed for listing this property as a 5 star and hidden gem...shame on you!
Our experience was less than stellar to say the least. The hotel is run down and in need of serious repair to the point there are safety issues with walkways and railings. Basic room amenities like hair dryers, lights, umbrellas and such just don't work. The aircon could not keep the room a constant temperature
and if you want a hot shower 9:00am forward in the morning or later evening for 9:00pm[... read more] dinner good luck with that. We brought our concerns to the hotels and they did send staff to look at things but nothing was ever resolved so we finally just gave up.
The service is what you would expect from a three star hotel with the butler service a complete waste of money. Four days requesting pillows and nothing, lost our day trip which was included ($200) and the list goes on. The hotel manager said he would look into things but again you constantly felt you were just being placated. They say the fish rots from the head down and any management we dealt with just seemed indifferent; sad really.
The working staff was completely different; attentive and smiling always. Couple of shout outs and I'm bad with names so very sorry. Our yoga teacher, dance instructor and the ladies in the Italian restaurant and swim up bar OMG top notch. The people behind the food stations were truly a pleasure to be served by as well as the table staff.
The resort used to be a Sandals and from what I garnered it was a treat to stay here. We met two couples that had been coming back for 8/9 years who told us what it was like and finished with they would never come back again.

Royalton Splash Punta Cana: The resort was ok at best
Rooms were nice people were not the nicest very rude I though some people were awesome but they were over shadowed by the rude ones like we were inconveniencing them most of them were in the buffet. The locals being there for 2 days really sucked at no one paid attention to us at all just the locals. I wouldn’t have went there if I knew that . The food was NOT good at all not many veggie options and not much for people who don’t eat meat. Also the food kept some of us in the bathroom for a g[... read more]ood part of the week.
Pros- great staff
Cons- terrible beach, short beach that is not long enough to go for a good walk, food was 3 misses for every hit. the hideaway is not as advertised. When you hear 'hideaway', you assume quiet and away from the noise. It is the exact opposite. Music starts at 7 am and goes until 10pm. Foam parties, balloon fights, drunken adults. Not at all the relaxing vacation we were expecting.
Advisor said the beach was long and food was Excellent, which were my two must haves. Neither [... read more]did the Royalton provide. I would have paid more for a better place and even reached out to the advisor questioning whether I should change. I should have listened to my gut, and trip advisor. Royalton CHIC Punta Cana: Chiq was really nice
We liked the resort. It's small and seems like 5 minutes walk to restaurants and beach (and we were at the back of the resort). We were there for 10 days and could have been there longer.
Spent most of the time on the beach walking for 5-10km every day. Beach is windy constantly and when it was cooler we went to the pool.
Restaurants are nice (Italian, Buffet and Indian were our preferred places) - did not have to book them ahead of time.
Coffee at the coffee shop Insomnia was great - [... read more]opens at 7am and great to grab a coffee and go to the beach.
Service was good overall. Some of the waiter staff were not trained on the menu options.
As a vegan, I was able to have options for breakfast, lunch and dinners every day. If there weren't options, the chef was helpful in preparing a veggie dish just for me.

Royalton Cayo Santa Maria: Excellent beach, resort is very nice
The hotel was modest in size, lovely main pool if that's your thing. Beach is soft white sand, shallow water and very clean. Lots of chairs available, beach bar service. Quesadillas offered at the beach lunch station are delicious! Grounds are very well kept, tip the gardeners, they're out there every day to make sure your views are as beautiful as possible. The butler service was very good, not too pushy and they were very good at anticipating the need to have your dinners booked; our firs[... read more]t introduction was to Ketia who was very helpful, kind and genuine. She took care of everything for us, so when Mario came the next day ( as they alternate) there wasn't much to do. The main bar is very well stocked. Nice Spanish wines were served in both dining rooms. Service staff were very good, hardworking and always busy cleaning or clearing tables to ensure no guest had to wait for a table. The bed was comfortable and the room very large. We were situated in room 0106; perfect location for us. The resort is aging, but still in decent condition. With the gap of tourism over the last few years it is understandable that repairs will take a while to get done, not only because of supply but money needed to undertake them. The reception desk staff were helpful and courteous. The general Manager, I think his name was Francesco...was so kind and always present. It was refreshing to see someone in his position so very much committed to his guests and their experience. The Spa was very nice, clean and the massage therapists there were good.
The only criticisms I can point out, is the food at the 24 hour snack bar is "typical Cuban", not so good. Fries were not prepared freshly, but seemed to be reheated. Best thing at the snack bar was the ice cream...and the grilled lunch service. The wait staff there are good but not as efficient as the main dining staff.
Also, getting fresh beach towels, especially on the last 3 days of our stay, was impossible as not enough on hand.
The loungers on the beach will need updating over the next year so the guests don't all destroy their backs.
Thank you so much to Anna , our chambermaid, she was so happy and pleasant. She did a great job and our room was always clean and towels positiioned in new towel art daily.
My husband and I have visited Cuba since 83, and would definitely return to this particular resort without hesitation, but not in May. Mango was plentiful but with the rains the mosquitos were as well.
Woudl have been a perfect vacation , if only we didn't experience a 2 hour delay on the way there and a 7 hour delay on the way home. With Cayo Santa Maria being a 90 minute bus ride away from the airport, it makes for a long "travel" day.
This was my first visit to this resort. My wife had been there twice in the past pre-pandemic whilst still under the Hunter ownership. It was recently sold to the Marriott group. My wife had raved about the resort. We were quite disappointed this visit.
Upon entering the main area, it was stunningly beautiful. As we waiting for our room we sat in the lobby area. The carpets in the seating area need to be shampooed or replaced. They have seen better days. The couches and chairs also need repla[... read more]cing. They are all showing wear and tear. When we checked-in, we were made to wait until nearly 4pm for our "ocean view" room. The view of the ocean was limited and partial as we were placed in the back corner of the resort overlooking the very noisy pool area. When we walked into the room, it seemed clean and tidy. When we began unpacking, the first thing we noted was a cockroach. I removed it and chalked it up to being in Mexico. Although the room is presentable and clean, we found the bed to be quite uncomfortable as it showed obvious depressions in the mattress where past guests have slept. The pillows were another disappointment. It was brought to the hotels attention and new pillows were brought to our room. The shower rain heads were rusted and the handle of the hand-held shower was corroded. The pillows on the chairs on the balcony were old, stained and worn. When touring the facility, we noted dirty floors, walls and elevators. Yes, the elevators are filthy. One of the two by our room was working on and off. The wall sign by the guest suites was broken. I would have removed it completely until the new one arrived.
On the service side, it was stellar. The staff was amazing and always there to assist the best they could. On the food side, it was good but not great. The way they cook hamburgers by the pool breaks all the food handling protocols. The same utensil was used on raw and cooked meats. There was cross-contamination. Health inspection audit is required to better train staff on how to BBQ. The pool area is in need of new parging of the cement as there are quite a few cracks surrounding the area and especially the stairs. This could be construed as a liability to the resort if someone was to fall an injure themselves.
Although I note a lot of positives, they sadly are outweighed by all of my negative views of what could very well be a stellar property for vacationers
I work in a customer service position of a luxury brand. Perhaps my expectations of standards it much too high? Would I return? Things would have to change. In reading other reviews on this property, I dare say that I am not alone in my findings.

Royalton Splash Punta Cana: Great time
Second time to Royalton Splash, quality property and a great time. There are 2 hotels on this property - you will need to upgrade to Diamond Club if you want good food/drinks, and access to pools close to the beach, and better areas on the beach (cleaner, better service, close to bars). Worth the upgrade. There weren’t many Covid protocols (99% of staff didn’t wear a mask, hand sanitizer stations were always empty, had to carefully select cups and plates from the buffet).
The Royalton resorts are top notch in most if not all ways. Food is excellent, rooms are comfortable, staff are great. Notables; Natalia, Masserrat and ‘Princess’ Yeseel of the vibe crew. Also Alberto in the small pool Tiki bar by the beach. Unfortunately we had to ask each day for our in room mini bar to be stocked with water. We were told the maids do not do this, it’s another crew. No problem but after 3 days asking in a row we felt like this should have been addressed daily. We asked f[... read more]or a restaurant booking at 10am and at 7pm were told everything was full. The only other thing we asked our butler for was the time of our departing bus and we were told to go to the sunwing office at the opposite side of resort… felt like the butler could have simply called for us or given us a number. Couldn’t get chairs after 730am and the Diamond club cabanas were also taken each day. We were told there were many diamond club visitors and not enough cabanas. The Diamond club lounge was filled with non diamond members and even some from the family side of resort, no monitoring of this. No private diamond club pool that we could find, staff also looked dumb founded by the question. Great resorts and would go back but the diamond club is not worth anything.

Royalton CHIC Punta Cana: Wonderful Vacation and Staff are top notch
This hotel is beautiful, the grounds are well kept and clean. The staff are amazing so many names to mention Wendy from the spa group, German at the beach. The bartenders in the lobby never let my drink get too low :) I don't normally go back to any resort twice but this is one I would in a heart beat. The room was beautiful and had a surprise for us waiting on our Birthday !!

Royalton Riviera Cancun Resort and Spa: Incredible resort/ stay
The resort was great from check in to check out. The service was second to none. The restaurants were all great and easy to get reservations. Pools and activities were all lots of fun. Grounds were well maintained with workers constantly working. I would definitely return to this resort. Only downfall was the beach, seaweed made it unusable - but that’s nature and completely out of control of the resort.

Royalton Cayo Santa Maria: Good to finally travel
Hotel is rated 5 star and has many many great reviews, I think mostly from return guests who seem to love the place. This was our 9th trip to Cuba and will be are last, we did say that after 8th.
Things that stand out that make us not want to return. NO shade at the quiet pool, both pools were missing many of the shade cabanas, they were never replaced as you can see the footings. NO vodka for most days, NO clean towels in room or beach towels for many days and worst was the 630pm truck dri[... read more]ving around resort spraying a cloud of insectiside as guests tried to run and hide from the poison cloud. The building all have butlers, sadly ours were invisible and not very helpful. Lester just looked disinterested, Diana at least was friendly.
The staff continually ask guests to post good reviews which we found desperate, clearly the Cuba people are just trying to survive. They are always friendly and doing their best with what they have been given from resort.
The Managers walk around constantly asking for feedback, they are the appeasers, really dont fix anything but make promises. The staff seem afraid of them.
The lobby and dining rooms are tired and have very uncomfroatble chairs, needs a make over. Most connecting resorts are closed and just collecting dust, very misleading to say you can use the other close resorts when they are closed down. The mosquitoes were butal most nights and prevented any outdoor dining.
We traveled with another couple , their first time in Cuba, they were disappointed as they had been in Mexico last December at another resort. There were very little in the way of special at this resort. The bus drive is 2 hours and this resort was the 5th drop off, made for a long drive in and out.
The beach is amazing, the cuba people are special. It was good to get away after 2 years, this resort is small and try to make the guests feel special. We enjoyed the Iberostar resort down the ocean much better. We dont want the token response from hotel managers, just advocate that the owners of resort fix some things to ensure the fine workers continue to have a job.

Royalton Hideaway Blue Waters: Amazing Beach and Food!
Have been twice in 5 months. Second time around not as good. Resort was much busier this time which affected the service level. Also, couldn't get into the ZEN restaurant as it was booked solid by 7:35am every day.
Otherwise the food is excellent. Drinks are sub par and definitely need more options unless you are only into slushy style sugar drinks.
The staff overall are very friendly, but be prepared to not get your drinks till near the end of your meal at the buffet.
I love this res[... read more]ort, but the service level needs a boost. But if you enjoy the ocean and beach, this is hard to beat!
We stayed at the Royalton Splash Punta Cana for 8 days in April 2022. This was our first trip with our 3 year old and we had paid for the best package which was the Junior Suite Jacuzzi Diamond Club. Firstly what I can say is that the Diamond Club "extra" is not worth it... ok we had the "private" check in upon arriving however a few families were in line thus, it took longer to check in than the "regular" clients that checked in at the front desk. Also, this lounge is very far away from the roo[... read more]ms so, it is easier to grab a drink at the pool, bar or coffee lounge than to walk over there for the snacks and drinks/coffee they are offering daily. Additionally, the "butler's service" was awful... we met him on the 2nd day and gave him a fair good amount of tip. We thought this would encourage a good service for the week... we thought wrong! This butler told us he would take care of every night's "Ã la carte" dinner reservations... Given we have a toddler, we asked for the dinner reservations to be before 7:30. They exchange with clients with the "what's app" and we had to ask him numerous times per day at which restaurant we would be eating that day and at what time... sometimes it would take 2, 3, 4 messages before he would respond and we could have a response at 5PM/6PM and, for the entire week, our reservations were at 8:30PM. Even with a complaint to the "butler's supervisor", nothing changed... It would have been easier to book them ourselves. We got nothing more from this "butlers service" that week. No extras attentions... and the "premium alcool" is not available at the Splash... you have to cross over to the Royalton Punta Cana to access a "VIP" lounge and enjoy the premium bottles (which is a 10-minutes walk).
The diamond club pool is very small and doesn't have much chairs.
Overhaul the hotel is nice and clean. The main pool is at the centre of all the building thus, very accessible. If you want a chair by the pool, you need to put your alarm clock early... at 7AM they were all taken! Same for the beach no matter if you have the diamond club or not.
To access the beach, you need to cross over to the royalton Punta Cana which as I said before, is a good 10-minutes walk. You can take the mini bus (but during the day or at dinner time, you will be lucky if you have a spot on it thus, you have to be patient- we found it easier to just walk).
As for the restaurants, 3 of them are at the Splash and the rests are at the other hotel (royalton punta Cana). We tried almost all of them and we were never disappointed! The theatre and entertainment is also at the other hotel. Not much entertainment at the splash at night...
we had an outdoor area to enjoy a few drinks after dinner and that's about it. The coffee place is very nice and the pastries and coffees are amazing!
As for the buffet, personally there wasn't much choices and almost none for toddler's. The buffet at the royalton Punta Cana was WAY more attractive and they had a LOT more to offer... we ended up eating breakfast at the Splash and lunch at the Royalton Punta Cana. The service at the buffet of the splash was OK... not to say bad... at breakfast, you were lucky if you had a cup of coffee or water before you finished your plate. The waiters always seemed in a bad mood... 1/2 the time we didn't get a hello or a smile. This was a first for us... total different story at the buffet of the royalton Punta Cana.
As for the room, on the first night, they made a mistake and we had 1 queen bed instead of 2... my husband ended up sleeping on the couch that night. Also, the room floor was covered with water (it was raining)... so our first night wasn't the best! The next day we transferred in another room. It was clean and spacious HOWEVER, the shower hadn't been cleaned as I found a bunch of long hair in the floor and walls... YUCK! I wrote a note the next morning and gave a generous tip to the cleaning lady asking to clean the shower which she didn't... after 3 days the hairs were still there and we ended up throwing them away ourselves. Beside that we had towels, water and a clean room the whole week. As for the water park, we didn't spend time over there... unfortunately little kids cannot go in the big slides even if accompanied by an adult and the little kids section did not interest him. It was pretty nice but you need to arrive EARLY if you want a chair.
So overhaul, we spent way more time at the other royalton and if we were to redo it, I would definitely book at the royalton punta Cana as it gives you access to the royalton splash anyway... we are not deceived but, we were expecting a bit more considering the amount we paid for this trip.

Royalton Hicacos Resort and Spa: The resort was nice
We like the hotel, some of the El la carte needed to improve. It was an okay vacation everything went up in price there. Also I was sexually harassed by the life guard employee there on site. So I wasn’t impressed. I spoke with the hotel manager Martin, basically all he did was fire his employee. There was nothing offered for our troubles, the maid barley cleaned the room. I went for a massage at the spa I requested 60 minutes they did 80 minutes and I was charged more money. There are a lot o[... read more]f improvements they need to do for a very expensive 5 star resort. Air Canada rep never showed for the meetings and I couldn’t find them until the last day of our trip. I had to book the Catamaran though the sun swing rep. I wasn’t impressed. I have been to Cuba many times and never had an issue and was never disappointed as much as I was in this trip.
So all and all my trip was about 2/5. I most likely will not be returning. I never had issue staying at the Bella Vista in Varadero, the Royalton in Cayo Santa Maria, any of the Amelia hotels in HolguÃn or kale cocoa or even Santa Maria.
I was so disappointed with the entire vacation.

Royalton Hicacos Resort and Spa: Don't be fooled by the rating
Nice 3 Star Hotel. Nice place, large complex, but NOT a 5 star, maybe 25 years ago. I have stayed at a Cuban 5 star before and this is not even close. Place is dated, but they are updating rooms from what I hear. The food, well it's Cuba. You won't gain weight here.
Lots of amenities here and everyone is a beach chair hog. You need to towel wrap your chair by 9AM or you will not be in the pool area. The beach is gorgeous with lots of covered seating.
My bed has a cushion top over the [... read more]old mattress. The worst mattress I have slept in. The center sinks about 2-3 inches.
The best thing they did here was no reservations for the a-la-cart restaurants. Just walk in. The beach towels are provided in your room which is a great idea. Apparently there is also a Nightclub at the resort. It was closed all week.
The snack bar. If you like a single slice of ham and slice of cheese in your sandwich, this is the place at that time thats all they had but the family who ordered after me got a hamburgers? Where did they find it? They love to fill you up on breads. There is also an ice cream shop and on a good day they might have 2 flavors. Usually only 1. Also, no French fries, you get potato chips instead at this resort.
Everyone working here is after the tips and I get it, they struggled with covid, but if you don't leave a decent tip, you're going to get slower service. Meanwhile the place is at 50% compacity. You would think the staff would have been more gratefull about getting tourists back, but they make it seem like its mandatory to leave a tip, and not based on service. It's about 80% Canadians at the resort.
Do not exchange your money to the Cuban Peso. Bring lots of American one dollar bills for tips and everyone working here will offer you 70 Cuban pesos on the side, compared to 24 Cuban pesos given to you at the exchange kiosk. Again, don't convert your funds to the peso.
The Cubans don't want their own currency as tips. It's almost useless to them in comparison to U.S., Canadian or Euros.
Check-in is relatively quick. Very easy to get lost in your first day.
Looking at the photos that others submitted, I noticed hey also have a lazy river. But there is no water in the lazy river...weird.
They are following covid restrictions and the staff will serve you from the buffet.
If you're looking for something closer to a 5 star, try Ansagna in Cayo Coco. It easily outbeats this place, and its a 4 1/2 star but much smaller in size.
I was asked by 3 different employees at the resort if I could place a 5 star google review and mention thier names. I would rather be honest.
Sunwing needs to change the rating on this place to 3.5 star at best and stop misleading the public and having people pay for a 5 Star, then disappointment sets in when you get there. You're stealing people's hard earned money.
Just look at the most recent reviews (last 6 months) Many issues here...
