We loved the luxury, service, and beautiful pools and beach at this resort.
The food was great except room service was unreliable.
Excellent entertainment team.
Staff is very well trained and you can tell they are looking to anticipate your needs and also to provide anything extra that they can.

Crown Paradise Club Cancun: Very nice
Checked in and the bathroom started leaking water from the ceiling.
After a technician came start cutting the ceiling and fixing it but at 5 pm We went to see our room and a big hole on the ceiling still there with mess everywhere and only at 830 pm at night I kindly asked to change the room nobody offered me that.
Paid for Ocean view room completely blocked by a palm tree we couldn’t see the ocean at all.
The rooms were a bit old and nothing to do with the pics online. Bathtub blacked o[... read more]ut with the time and seemed not as clean.
They were days that we had to ask to come to clean our bedroom even if we had left the room at 8 and come back at 14:00 o clock.
When we visited the hotel was I guess under construction “nobody told us anything†and at 2-3 pm while with 2 babies trying to sleep drilling noises and compressors everywhere... impossible to sleep.
Beside all that hotel was in good location with many activities and shows for the kids swimming pool view amazing you could see the ocean.
Food “buffet “and drinks were very nice. Restaurants were very nice and professional with excellent service.
Overall experience it was good.

Bahia Principe Explore Tulum: Resort was okay
The hotel room was not very clean when we arrived. When I brought this to the front desks attention they didn't take my complaint seriously. This was my second time at the resort, as we stayed there last year. Overall the hotel was very nice, beach was clean and the staff were awesome.

Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya: Third times’s a charm!
Secrets Akumal is such a splendid resort and we love everything about it from the time we arrive until our departure. We spend our days at the beach and head over to the quiet pool (we call it our spa pool) for the late afternoon. We love dropping in at the Coco Cafe for our tea and sweet pastries. The Seaside restaurant is our favourite as they have a salad bar and that what I love to eat. My husband raves over the turf/meat options and says the way they are cooked over the charcoal grill leave[... read more]s them so tender. Compliments to the chef of course!
The resorts along this stretch of beach have strung floating nets to catch the seaweed before it reaches the shoreline and this has made a great impact on the amount of it which reaches the shore. Less work for the workers to take up now and less of it in the waters too.
I just want to go back again and again as each day is heaven when we’re there.
The Secrets Maroma was a lovely hotel with friendly and attentive staff. Upon check-in, we were told our room was not ready and to leave the bags with the bell staff. After about an hour, I returned to the main lobby to get a swim suit from my suitcase. I found our luggage outside the main doors of the hotel and behind a wall. They were unattended. I retrieved my bathing suit. Once the room was ready and while unpacking, I noticed a purse was missing from my luggage. I notified the front de[... read more]sk/manager. I received a call back to say they reviewed the security footage and the bags were not touched. I told the person this was untrue as I accessed the bags. The manager went on the say that theft is common at the airport and it probably happened there.
This put a dark cloud over the vacation.

TRS Coral: TRS Coral, Absolute Luxury
This is most likely the best hotel we have stayed at, and we have been to a lot of resorts in Mexico. We were planning to book another hotel in the Mayan, but thank goodness our travel agent Marnie got in touch with me as she had just returned and asked us to consider the TRS Coral. It is the adults only section of Palladium hotel group in the Playa Mujeres area of Cancun. The whole resort was beautiful, the food was fantastic and we were able to go to all the restaurants in Palladium family se[... read more]ction and the Coral section. The staff were always available to help or just to chat. I would recommend this hotel!

Ocean Coral and Turquesa: Mixed review
Pros; The hotel is beautiful and immaculate. The staff are professional and prompt. The junior suite was huge and well stocked. The beach was steps away. The buffet hours are generous. There were smoothie bars and an ice cream parlour. The pool foam party was a hoot! No mosquitos. The spa was great. We went for two deep tissue massages that were amazing. The service started with a cool swim, then a hot tub sit, then a dry sauna, then a shower, then a steam room, another shower and then massage a[... read more]nd for a great price!
Cons: check in was inefficient and tiring. The “premium†staff (aka timeshare sales staff) were on us immediately, while we were in line to check in and although not too pushy and friendly, were in our faces several times a day. The beach stunk like rotten fish to the extent that in my one attempt to go to it, I nearly vomited and never went back. No one hung out at the beach which made the pool and swim up bar extremely busy. The buffet was not maintained during meal hours so if you don’t go as soon as it opens you are dealing with low stock and really picked over food. The omelette grill was filthy and the eggs were covered in burnt grease bits. The omelette chef handled the food with gloves instead of utensils so as a vegetarian I was appalled when he grabbed a handful of ham for one omelette and used the same hand to grab cheese for mine. Alcohol is not served 24 hours. The snack bar food was really plain and gross. This place reminded me of a four star in Cuba. For the right price, that might be acceptable, but this is definitely not a five star resort.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay but we are unlikely to return.

Royal Hideaway Playacar: Paradise!
This was my first ever trip to Mexico, and from the moment I got off the airplane it was just magical! First off, the people are incredibly kind and helpful. Arriving at the resort was like walking into a slice of heaven. The Royal Hideaway Playacar is absolutely breathtaking. The grounds are consistently and beautifully manicured. The room was spectacular! Very comfortable bed and luxurious washroom. It also had a lovely balcony with a view of the pool and ocean. Who could ask for more! The foo[... read more]d was unreal! I have never eaten so decadently for 7 days straight. The service was absolutely 5 star. Everyone was extremely kind and very accommodating. Barcelo Maya Colonial: Very nice
The resort was very clean, and nice gardens. The food was very good, you can’t possibly go hungry here. However I will say the al la carte dinner portions are way too large- so much waste! The resort is very large so if you have mobility issues I may not recommend as transportation is scarce. Many things to do here. The beach was ok- not as long and rock free as one would hope. The beach front at the colonial was the nicest and really the only option for swimming. Having the premium level was [... read more]nice but lots of room for improvement here-was not able to get wine in the room unless you wanted to pay $50 US a bottle so we ventured out to a local store by way of taxi and got really nice wine for under $20 per bottle . The bars do not open until 11 am and the pool bars don’t open until 12 pm . Must be 18 or older to drink and to use the spa - was not too thrilled that our 16 year old could not use the spa . We were a party of 8 so we arranged our own transportation with Canada Transfers ( who were totally awesome in every way) to and from the resort .
All though there was a lot of nice staff there is also a lot who could smile more and not look so intimidating or that you are bothering them.

The Fives Beach Hotel and Residences Playa Del Carmen: Great Resort!
The resort is beautiful with its many pools, gardens and neighboring jungle. The maintenance staff quietly keep up the grounds each day. The rooms are clean and the expected towels and washcloths are provided (simple request but have been at resorts in the past few years that never provided a washcloth all week). The staff were amazing. Jony took care of us at the swim up bar (near Lizards) with Enrique and Marco. They were always willing to concoct a unique drink and remember it the next time w[... read more]e returned. The meals served at the restaurants were all very good! For dinner we had Mexican, Thai (Francisco was an amazing server), Sushi, Italian, and the Sea Olive. Two were closed for upgrades. Lunches at Lizards were very good and we loved the ceviche and the shrimp tacos at the beach restaurant. It could have been nicer for us had there been an adult pool in the main area or a section one designated as adult. It can quickly put a damper on an otherwise lovey day when parents don’t respect the shared space and let their kids lose screaming - enough said. Very little evening entertainment should probably be mentioned but the sun had us tired and we didn’t mind. All in all a great relaxing week!

Ocean Coral and Turquesa: Quite Good-Excellent in some areas
Ok - Back from a one week stay here and time for my review.
For some background to provide context: We are a family of 3 have been travelling to All Inclusive resorts for the past 13 years - at least once a year sometimes twice. We have been to Nuevo Vallarta, Manzanillo, The Mayan Riv, and Punta Cana in the DR. Only choosing to stay at 4 star properties and above. We are not fussy and do tend to have the ability to go with the flow.
The check in process was fine and quick no problems. A[... read more]nd they were very good about taking no for an answer regarding attending the presentation for timeshare. There was no hard sell at all.
The room was as we had asked - with the King bed instead of 2 doubles. The room was very clean and spacious. But the lack of total bathroom privacy is weird especially with our teenage son. For a couple on their own I suppose it would not be an issue. We made it work "wait! your mom is in the bath! look away!" what 15 year old boy needs an eyefull of his naked mom or dad for that matter! lol
The AC worked great the dehumidifier was a g-dsend. Housekeeping did a great job cleaning each day.
The Mini bar was restocked daily - But they will not give you any extra beers over and above the 2 cans of Sol a day - a huge deal? No not at all especially when a cold beer is just a short walk to the closest bar - but something we had never encountered before - usually u can leave a note with the tip money for the maid and they will make sure your fridge is stocked as you prefer. After making a call to ask could we have a couple more cans of beer I was told we are only allowed the 2 per day. OK...again not the end of the world - just a little odd to us.
Breakfast buffet was a standard all inclusive breakfast array. Bacon was very scarce, you had to ask for it from the ladies who make the eggs on the cook tops - we found that a bit odd. The coffee is very very weak and watery the worst coffee we have every had at a resort to date...the work around for this is to ask for a latte, espresso or cappuccino. The brewed coffee is not great if you are expecting or prefer a full bodied cup.
Lunch - we only ate the buffet for lunches - and again it was fair to good. Standard all inclusive resort buffer lunch. Bugers, pizza, pasta, salads, fruits. No reason not to be able to make yourself a plate of things you liked. Nothing knocked our socks off at lunch but by no means was it bad.
Dinners:
We enjoyed the outdoor Italian (out front of Blue Moon) the best - but the service was very very slow - the only have two of the cooking carts when they flambe and prepare the meals so there can be a long gap between the starters and main course if all the tables are full. The tenderloin there was excellent.
The a la carte near the activity pool was hit and miss as we all three ordered the ribeye and our son's was excellent but my husband's and mine were tough and hard to cut and chew. So I am guessing that was just bad luck for us as we both tried our son's and it was fantastic - I am sure we could have asked them to do us 2 more steaks - but we didn't do that.
The Japanese was very good. The standard cooking table show and the food was very good.
The Mexican was very good.
The indoor Italian was very good as well.
Route 66 - was OK...nothing special. The fried pickles really greasy and kind of gross. My son called his burger OK and my husband said the ribs were good.
Mike's coffee shop was a lovely spot in terms of a great cup of coffee and a little AC break. I wish t was open earlier and closed later.
The ice cream shop is adorable.
In general the AC is very very minimal in the restaurants - this is the hottest/most humid time of the year. So we (again personal opinion) found them to be a little on the uncomfortable side.
Drinks - We tipped the first bartender who would serve us each morning at the pool bar with a $5....then again a dollar or two through the day. we said please and thanks, were friendly and smiled - were not pushy and waited our turn - even if others who came after were served before us and I will say in our opinion the barmen at the swim up bar were not very friendly, did not smile....and ALWAYS go to pour the local cheap brands even if you ask for a name brand alcohol.....once or twice ok maybe he did not hear me....but ebery time I would have to say "Stoli vodka soda please" and even then would have to say stoli as he would always reach for the cheap stuff first. I would then get the Stoli - but this was a mildly annoying exercise to go though each time. Not at all the end of the world - Just an observation.
The lady who came around before the bar opened offering Bloody Marys, and Mimosas was lovely, chatty and smiley. Shame she does not work behind the bar.
We hung out at the chill pool each day which confusingly is the liveliest pool with an activity/game happening each day at 3, and water aerobics mid morning. And loud DJ music in between, This pool has an upbeat fun atmosphere that some may not want little ones at as the music was not always radio edit versions so at times there were explicit lyrics. Our son is older so that didn't phase us.
There were still plenty of unclaimed lounge chairs when we would arrive at 930AM ish each morning. However if you like to have the same spot each day you can go save your chairs in the morning -this is what we did. I would assume in high season in the winter there would not be any chairs left avail by 930AM....Those who have been in the winter would know better.
The beach:
Well first of all this does not affect my overall thoughts on the resort as it's nature and no one's fault. But it is unpleasant in terms of the smell and it is not swimable. We knew this when we booked so it did not phase us as we are not ocean swimmers anyways. But i did feel bad for those who had no idea this was the case going in.
The shows - we attempted to watch the Lion King - but the indoor theatre was just packed too tight. Felt like we were sitting on top of one another. So we bailed. The outdoor stage was a much nicer experience.
In conclusion - if we got the same deal we would go back and we would give this resort a 3.75 out of 5.
This is of course just one family’s opinion....and others may have enjoyed it more or less than us. Just thought I would add ours here in case it helps anyone making a choice to book or not.
BONUS- we met a lovely family from the UK. Making new friends on a trip is always nice!
SECOND BONUS - a family from Michigan was there for a destination wedding and they were such a nice bunch and watching the wedding from the walkway was very nice!

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Good but not great
The resort is good, i love the lobby are so pretty. The food is good, stuff is good, why is not great? Our room had ants 🜠tiny ants 🜠that you never know if they are going into your ears 👂 while sleeping (creepy), they were everywhere in the room even in bed. The AC don’t work in any part of the hotel, how silly this is? When they were on, it was set at 30 degrees, like omg are you guys crazy or what?

Iberostar Selection Paraiso Lindo: Great resort
This was a spectacular resort. Very large. The pools were fantastic. Always enough umbrellas. We love spending time at the beach and ocean but we really couldn’t here because the ocean was to volatile to swim in. The beach is also amazing- along with the snack bar. What was disappointing was the food. The breakfasts were sparse, food like eggs and omelettes were pre cooked and cold. Food would run out and it would take 10-25 mins for it to be replenished. Also the pasta was horrendous. Eith[... read more]er the pre made ones or if you were lucky enough to get pasta made to order it was not tasty.

Iberostar Selection Paraiso Lindo: Amazing resort
This hotel is fantastic. It’s very large and has 2 huge pools and a ton of umbrellas and recliners for all. The beach although large and beautiful was full of seaweed. They cleaned the beach on an ongoing basis all day long. The ocean was too rough to swim in. The buffets were very good - especially the main buffet in the main lobby. The only downfall for the food was the pasta. It was awful. Always. That was truly disappointing. The Star Coffee club was AMAZING. We went daily and it was a h[... read more]uge hit.
