It is an aging Resort with very good food for Cuba and great staff. We stayed at an ocean view junior suite with a good view of ocean through some trees. Beach is good after you pass the rocky front and it is great for snorkelling.
When busy time the repeaters got better treatment. Make sure when booking your Japanese restaurant to ask for the table show.

Valentin Perla Blanca: Outstanding beach! Great resort!
We stayed at the resort from Jan 31 to Feb 7 and had a great time! The resort is very modern and clean and the staff does a wonderful job overall, everyone was very friendly and eager to please. The pools were amazing, very clean and the beach was breathtaking! We had no issues with the buffet, always lots of variety, especially the pastries! The only issue we had was with the lighting on the pathways at night, there is little to none. Also, our room keys stopped working at least 5 times through[... read more]out the week and we had to go back to the lobby to get them reprogrammed each time. It was really frustrating to come back from a great day at the beach only to discover that we were locked out of our room. The a la cartes were good, we did French and Italian (twice) but only because that's all that was left, so book them as soon as you arrive if you want your choice!! Overall it was a great resort for the money and we would definitely return.

Hotel Camino del Mar: Home away from home
My husband and I have gone to this resort 7 times, sometimes with children and other times by ourselves. This trip was for 3 weeks from Jan 18 - Feb 8, 2020. We had a wonderful, relaxing time. We did not have an issue with water or air conditioning. There is a block of rooms that don't have air but travellers are not put into these rooms as they are closed until the issue is fixed. The beach is clean and beautiful. The pool is clean and inviting. The gardens are beautiful. The food is plentifu[... read more]l and very good. For breakfast, there is an egg station and a pancake / french toast station. Bread is fresh and delicious. There are plenty of assorted cheeses, cold meats, jams and fresh fruit. There is a smoothie/juice station. At dinner, there is a fish grill and a meat grill where you pick your own cut of meat/fish and they cook it for you. There is a pizza and a pasta station. The salad fixings are abundant. Overall, the food is plentiful, hot and very good. The drinks are good. The service is excellent in the bars and in the restaurants/buffet. The rooms are older but they are very clean. Our bed was comfortable and we had no issues with hot water or air-conditioning. The staff are AMAZING, from the gardeners to the General Manager. All of them are what make this resort our home away from home. This resort is small and quiet and we absolutely love it. Hello to all of our Melia family (too many to mention by name) - we'll see you next year.

Playa Caleta: Loved the location
This resort in my opinion is low key, at the right price it is a bargain, the staff are very nice and friendly, it is very clean, the food was lacking, butter, potatoes, milk at times, veg, having said that you wont starve, when we go to cuba this is what we expect in any resort...
Toilet paper bring your own they do have in the rooms, but will need it for the washrooms or make sure you take some from your room.
There is not a no smoking policy I personally found that a problem, ending up with[... read more] sore throat puntarena was one big cloud of smoke I went to the caleta because I was told they had no smoking at the bar, there was singns on the table but people still smoked and no one told them not to.
In conclusion its a fun place if they can get the smoking under control I would definatly go back.

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: Really good hotel.
There is room for improvement the villas and motel are great need of an update, the main buffet dinning can be improved greatly, the grounds were very unkept but they were working on it when I was leaving. The games were very old and worn out, the gym was good. I recommend the al a cart restaurants. The smaller buffet I found were much nicer. Need for more games on the beach area. There were several barbecue pits but none were used in the nine days I was there. I would like to see a better descr[... read more]iption of all that is offered at the hotel, I found a third buffet on my last day, had I known about I would have tried it out several times.

Royalton Cayo Santa Maria: Cuba at its Finest!
We spent a glorious week at The Royalton in Cayo Santa Maria. This is an all adult boutique resort with the best beach we have seen. The sand is like icing sugar, and you can walk for miles. Our room was very spacious and clean. The grounds were like a tropical paradise with lots of vegetation and all of the buildings were within a reasonable walking distance. There were 2 pools to enjoy and lots of chairs available at each location. There was plenty to eat at the a la carte restaurants. [... read more]However, there is NO buffet. We had access to 2 nearby resorts, so there was lots of food choices. We had an amazing butler named Noelvis, who treated us royally. Shout out to Liz in Eggsellence restaurant for her excellent service. It was an amazing vacation and we would recommend this resort to adults wishing a quiet, relaxing holiday. We will be back!

Memories Paraiso: WORST *READ THIS*
I never ever write bad reviews. Cuba is my favourite place on earth. I would never go back to this specific resort though. Awful bed bugs. The customer service “worker†didn’t understand any English and mad ZERO effort to help. Our bed was broken when we got there. Completely broken and sunken in on one side. From 7 am till 530 pm I went down every few hours to check on the status and he kept saying they were working on it. Nothing was done so my wife and I had to sleep side by side on a b[... read more]roken bed filled with bed bugs that bit her alive. We were at bungalow 35 at room 3536. Front desk was super rude and would only point to customer service worker who we both know didn’t help at all. Really made our honey moon suffer.
The beach was beautiful and entertainment was okay. I’ve been to Cuba 6 times, to even lower rated resorts than this, and had a much much better time. Wouldn’t even go back for FREE.

Melia Jardines del Rey: Nice resort
The week we went to cayo coco they had rations as in shortages...drinking water pop juice etc ... we were a group of 8 ladies that went ..there was no hot water for showers for most of the week ...
It's a nice resort..the staff was awesome and did there best with what they had...overall could use an upgrade in the facilities as toilets.. water temperature etc.
It asks if I would recommend this hotel to friends ..probably not right now ..maybe if they fix the problems and do some upgrades

Hotel Playa Coco: Average resort
We were at Playa Coco from Jan 12/20 to Jan 19/20. It was extremely windy and a little cool. The ocean was clean but very cold as well as the pool. Food was hit and miss. The reason we chose this resort was one particular meal they used to have at the Italian a la carte but they have removed it from the menu. We didn’t like anything else even though we went twice. The Japanese restaurant was the best. Service was average and the room was fine but no drawers to put your clothes away. Won’t be[... read more] going back.

Club Karey: NOTHING I EXPECTED
Before coming to this resort I was honestly expecting to not have the best time due to the horrible reviews that I read. When I arrived is 1 million times better than I could ever have expected my friends and I got entire house on the beach to ourselves with separate rooms a huge balcony on the top floor and main floor that was steps away from the beach. There’s an amazing area of varadero that is only five dollars away from the town where there is a night clubs restaurants and other fun excit[... read more]ing things to do I’m a very picky eater so I did not eat the buffet food as it was un appetizing to me but there was a snack bar with great sandwiches and other options to eat. There is activities going on throughout the day like dancing live music and games magic shows another exciting stuff to keep you busy and entertained at the resort by the pool. the bar was free 24 seven which was amazing and the staff are literally so nice I’m a teenager and went with my friends and we had an amazing experience with this staff. The house our room was and was honestly beautiful and spacious the only thing that makes the resort a little cheap is that there are some repairs that need to be done that they do not do such as shaky or hard to open door knobs; but the doors are very secure, none the less and your stuff is safe in your room. but do not leave things outside of your room as one pair of my shoes got stolen that I foolishly left outside my locked door. Anyway I had such an amazing time and for spending such that amount of money I did I wish I could return here every month everyone was so pleasant and enjoying their time it was so relaxing and I was so happy with my experience. YOU MUST TRAVEL TO CLUB KAREY IN VARADERO CUBA ITS AMAZING AND I WILL BE BACK. TY GUYS BUT YOU COULDA LOWED ME MY SHOES!! :)

Playa Luxury Cayo Las Brujas: Lovely little resort
I spent a week at Angsana from Jan 29 to Feb 5. This is a smaller adult-only resort and very peaceful. Not a destination if you want to party! But perfect for utter relaxation. The guests were mainly middle-aged and seniors.
My partial ocean-view room in the main building on the second floor was spacious and bright, with a comfortable kingsize bed. A/C efficient and reliable. Big clean bathroom with a walk-in shower. I was in Block 7, which was only a minute’s walk from the lobby bar; pool; b[... read more]uffet; and snack bar.
The beautiful long beach is a few minutes' walk from the main building, and the water is calm. Lots of snorkeling opportunity. Plenty of loungers.
As this small resort was only half-full, there was less variety at the buffet than what is probably usually there, but the food was good; the grill was busy with fresh meats and fish; and there was lots of fresh fruit, delicious breads, and a good selection of cheeses and deli meats.
The only live entertainment was live music in the lobby bar in the evening; there is no theatre or disco and the resort is quiet after 10 or 11. Piped-in music around the lobby and pool during the day is mellow Cuban and jazz.
Staff were wonderful—courteous and hard-working.
Be aware that the bus transfer from the airport in Santa Clara to the resort is almost 2 hours. It's an interesting drive through the countryside and the bus is comfortable but there is no toilet on the bus so--warning--don't drink too much beer en route.
I would highly recommend this resort for a relaxing and serene vacation!

Valentin Perla Blanca: Don't do it
Let me preface this by saying that I have been to Cuba several times and I am used to the imperfections that come with a Cuban holiday. The food was TERRIBLE. Normally at a Cuban buffet you can find something no matter how picky you are. And yes, you can expect repetition. But this was disgusting. And good luck finding vegetables. Even the a la cartes, which are normally pretty decent in Cuba, were terrible. I ordered chicken fricassee (white sauce) in the French restaurant, and it came i[... read more]n a tomato sauce (canned). When I pointed this out, the waiter said, "chef changed it" and walked away. The beef was like leather, and the fish very overcooked.
There were many shortages. Our first day, we went to the a la carte for breakfast and were told no bacon, no ham, no cheese. After day one, and for the remainder of the trip, no gin and tonic. They also ran out of white wine, and I understand also many other things, but they weren't things I eat or drink.
Only one type of bread. Yellow (corn?) bread for EVERYTHING. Yellow buns for burgers and hot dogs, yellow buns at every meal. Even at the French and Italian restaurants where I hoped to see a decent baguette - more yellow buns.
There was nowhere to grab something to eat and go. The "snack bar" was a sit down restaurant with burgers, hot dogs and sandwiches. A nightmare for gluten-free or vegetarian eaters. There was supposed to be snacks in the preferred lounge, but there never was.
I ordered a cappuccino and watched the waiter smell the cream, call another guy over who smelled it as well, poured it out, and stuck his finger in it. Another guy came over and did some sniffing and stirring as well. I didn't need a cappuccino with questionable cream. I told them never mind and left.
The first day, on four occasions, staff entered our room unannounced. No chain locks or swing bar locks to prevent this. After locking the bathroom door (I deemed this necessary after the many intrusions), I was trapped inside and could not get out until my husband freed me from the other side.
FYI - all the rooms are the same. If you pay for an upgrade or an ocean view, the room is identical (but with an ocean view).
Every day was a game of "Wonder which towels we will get today?" Day one, two bath towels. No bath math, no facecloths, no hand towel. When I asked for facecloths, they said they didn't have any and would get one for me tomorrow. I then asked for a mat or another towel to use as a bathmat and I got that. I did get two facecloths the next day, but when the cleaners came the following day, gone were the facecloths, hand towels and bathmat again. So if I ran into them, I could sometimes get something, but otherwise, just the two bath towels. Basic stuff - we need the basics here! No option to get fresh beach towels. You had to "try" to dry them on your deck every day. Good luck with that with the humidity. Same sheets all week too. And yes, we tipped every day.
As a "privilege" guest, we got robes in our rooms. On our second to last day, the housekeepers took them away when they cleaned the room. I guess they were short of those too, and needed them for the next guests. The housekeepers also liked to shout to each other from room to room the entire time they clean the rooms. Constant yelling in the hallways for hours. Hope you don't want to sleep in. It was VERY loud.
Water pressure was a mere trickle. Showering took FOREVER. One person I spoke to was without power in his room for two days.
In the lobby/restaurants/public baths, without exaggeration, 100% of the time there was no liquid soap in the dispenser. They would place one of those tiny hotel bar soaps on the counter. When they were trying to be fancy, they would place the bar soap in a ceramic dish atop "decorative" rocks. The problem is, the rocks weren't smooth. You had to pick off the rocks to use the communal soap. And no paper towel either.
No lights on the walkways - very dark at night. Bring your flashlight/cell phone.
The beach was amazing, as is always the case in Cuba, and is what keeps us coming back.
These things are small, but put together can ruin a vacation. With better management and very little investment these things can be fixed easily.
Sunwing, you must insist these things are looked after or stop selling this resort.

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: Beautiful Beach!
You have two options when staying at this resort - focus on all the little details that are wrong; or, you can focus on the beautiful scenery, weather, and wonderful people that are more than ready to serve you.
The resort is small, which is helpful for wayfinding. Generally speaking the resort and the rooms are very clean. There is one bathroom that doesn't have toilet seats, but this is common in many countries. The supply of toilet paper was scarce, but that's a reflection of the world's p[... read more]olitics, not the resort. The food is okay. You'll always find something to eat, but don't go here if you're looking for a culinary adventure. The a la carte restaurants are nice. During the day, you'll find more than enough activity at the pool to keep you busy and the pools are CLEAN. The best part of the resort are the people. While service can be slow at times, they are keen to provide you with the very best cocktails. If you do visit, look for Pino at the Sports Bar (Route 66) and ask for a PinaColada. Best on the island.
The beach is the crown jewel of this resort. You can walk for miles in either direction and it feels very safe to do so. Stunning views.

Gran Muthu Imperial: Good value for the money
I brought my Mom with me to this resort Feb 3-10th, and stayed at Gran Muthu Imperial. The check in was quick and we were lucky that we were given our room keys right away. We arrived at 10:30 am so there was no sitting around all day waiting to get in our room. The room itself was nice, spacious, and clean. We stayed in the Bldg 6 and had an Oceanview room. The downfalls were that the shower leaked so every time you had a shower, you also had a flood to clean up. We were told later that A[... read more]LL the rooms had that same issue. We were able to deal with it fine by putting towels around the bottom of the shower door, but unfortunately, they only gave you one clean towel per day. I really didn't want to use the same towel I used to wipe the floor, to also dry myself with. It wasn't the end of the world as we used our beach towels as our bath towels, but still a bit of an inconvenience. The grounds themselves were nice. Everything was pretty easy to navigate and well laid out. There are 3 pools and one with a swim up bar. The pools were quite cold, but refreshing. They had activities during the daytime at the middle pool. There were not enough pool chairs for the amount of people and if you weren't up at the crack of dawn, you weren't getting a place to sit unfortunately. There is a rule about saving the chairs, but it is not enforced. If you are lucky enough to get a chair, don't be afraid to ask one of the staff to get you an umbrella. They do have them, but you must ask! The food was typical for a Cuban resort. Nothing to write home about, but we never went hungry. Tuesday they had a Cuban night which featured an outdoor BBQ. It was quite good and the entertainment was really nice. We only did one A La Carte which was the seafood restaurant and I highly recommend the salmon! It was delicious! The beach out front of the resort is rocky with dead coral but very natural and was fun to find all kinds of cool little creatures there. On the left side of the resort is the sandy beach. it was nice with plenty of lounge chairs, a beach bar, and a place to get snorkelling equipment and other aquatic activities. Overall, it was a nice resort, but I don't know if I would go back to this one. I would probably stay at the Rainbow next door for a little extra money.

Melia Jardines del Rey: Great Vacation Again
We stayed here end of January for one week. This was our 5th visit over the years and have noticed some changes. Hotel was full and this at times overwhelmed staff. Additional Trumped up embargo's are definitely effecting the people of Cuba and also tourist areas. No soap for two days, food assortment is more limited. Food, however was well prepared, presented, and hot. Never hungry! Buffet staff seemed new and inexperienced. Lack of supervision and direction, noticeable change from previous v[... read more]isits. Alà cartes as usual try very hard to make your experience special, but again effective management not in place. All bars, lounges and their staff are efficient and friendly. Beach bar guys are awesome (Joel, Leeangel) Nautica teams all good guys, missed Alejandro this time. Front desk staff friendly and helpful. Maid service team are awesome rooms left clean and fresh.
Overall we noticed a real lack of supervision and management, unlike past visits. These people used to be everywhere and could be seen visiting all areas of resrt on their mopeds. Now it is repairmen using the mopeds.
We love this hotel and its location and grounds are beautiful. We will return!
