Occidental Tamarindo: Not recommended

This hotel was probably one of the worst i stayed at, they have so many rules, 1 pool, no drinking at it! Snack bar is re deep fried food! cold burgers, the only decent food was at breakfast! the hours for the breakfast, lunch and dinner buffet is not correct! they clean up half hour early! The staff was ignorant and not accommodating at all! Barcelo Bavaro Beach: Honest

My mother and grandmother were at the resort last week. Resort is very nice food is great. One major complaint was my grandmother fell on a wet floor in the washroom by the pool, broke her arm in 2 places. Doctors said she may have to stay a few extra days before she could fly. Hotel wanted to charge her for the room and the airline also said it would have to charge her to change her flight because of medical reasons (air transat).

Barcelo Bavaro Beach: Beautiful Resort

We enjoyed our stay at the Barcelo Bavaro Beach. The resort is beautiful, well kept and very clean. We loved that there were tons of areas to sit in and lounge in throughout the resort as well as around the pool and on the beach. The food was fantastic especially the Chez Gourmet restaurant. The staff were friendly and helpful. We had a few times we needed to call the front desk for things and the response time was very quick. We weren't oriented to the resort, which restaurants we could eat in, how to book the a la cartes, no resort maps, etc., we were really left to figure it out on our own. Guest services did not know how we could find the Air Transat rep, it took us 3 days to try to get the info by finally going next door to Guest Services at The Palace where they were more helpful. None of that is a deal breaker at all, just an area of improvement. We would definitely return.

Occidental Papagayo: Picturesque

The place could use at least 2 more types of restaurants. A great adult place to get away from the rest of the world among the flora and fauna. Courteous Staff was always ready to please. Give out a list of activities for the week on arrival Had to find the hidden billboard in the premises!

Barcelo Bavaro Palace: It was meh

Room smelled moldy, food was disgusting and tasteless. The restaurant are worse, service was slow. The steak house was a joke. The resort itself is not too bad! If you enjoy food, this isn’t the resort for you. However if you enjoy tasteless seasoning free food. You will love this place. Makes me wonder if all these positive reviews are fake.

Barcelo Maya Beach Resort: Outstanding

After reading several mixed reviews I was unsure of what to expect. This resort is beautiful. staff were wonderful and hope to return again soon. Ivan asked me my name and remembered me every time I went to the buffet. weather was beautiful. Beach at the beach resort was the best. Food plentiful and good variety. Can't say enough about how amazing the Barcello is.

Occidental Papagayo: Great Resort

Beautiful Resort. Great pool areas. Great Beach area. Access to rooms only by shuttles. Barcelo Maya Beach Resort: has it all resort

We stayed at Caribe hotel from Oct 14 to 21. Although booked Beach hotel thru our agent, we were placed at adjacent Caribe hotel based on room availability. Initially we were offered main floor room, but on our request we were given second floor room instead. The initial disappointment turned into a favour. Room location in building 5 was more central in the resort thus closer to beach we used closer to Palace hotel. Extraordinary cleanliness, in seven days have not noticed a piece of trash eith [... read more]er on the grounds or in indoor amenities. Friendly helpful staff provided us with great service be it room service, bar service or restaurant service Beach was nice with plenty of shade, clean loungers and easy entry into water since crews were daily correcting washed sections of the shore. Clean beach and bath towels were readily available as needed. Water and refreshments stocked daily in fridge. Loved stake house dining. Would surely return to this resort for beach, room, food and service. Found the transfer from Cancun airport to be in access of 90 minutes rather than advertised 65 minutes.

Occidental at Xcaret Destination: Very relaxing stay

Xcaret park, at walking distance, enjoying nature, mingling with animals including nearly extinct, made this a very enjoyable and educational trip. Not to mention the excellent food, drinks, free Wi-Fi, ala carts

Barcelo Maya Palace: Wonderful large resort

The resort is gigantic and very well kept with great customer service. Check in was a little time consuming for us and we had to wait 4 hours to get our two rooms but staff was nice about our original request to get adjacent rooms. I loved the beach and the constant breeze there. The size of the resort also helped me easily hit 10K steps each day and we liked some of the a la Carter restaurants even though it was stupid only being able to book one reservation each day. Barcelo Maya Palace: Amazing Resort

My husband and family and I just came back from a holiday at the Barcelo Rivera Maya and it was extremely enjoyable. We stayed at the Barcelo Palace and it was wonderful. From the food to the hotel room to the many helpful pleasant staff. Front desk is the only complaint. It is very slow to check in and putting wrist bands on. Occidental Caribe: Not impressed

I wasn’t impressed with this resort at all. I will not be back and I would suggest to anyone looking to book this resort to definitely reconsider. Food at the buffet is horrible, hotel is outdated and needs major repairs and cockroaches were found in our room.

Barcelo Solymar: HIGHLY OVER RATED

I realize CUBAN food at any resort is rather bland...BUT... SERIOUSLY...no bacon all week...chicken legs.. potatoes as a choice first thing in morning...server dropping basket of buns..picking up back in basket and out back on table PASTA..PASTA..PASTA. 4 star resort...1 elevator of 3 working...1 washroom on ground floor been shut down for last month. Barcelo Maya Palace: Disappointing

We were a family of 6 travelling to BARCELO Mayan Palace. Your Agent suggested we upgrade to The Palace as it would be well worth it. Last year we stayed at The Colonial. Anyway, our rooms were lovely and spacious although the food was absolutely horrible. Poor selection, some stale food like the Truos and flies sitting on some of the fruit. Service was really bad. We decided to try the Colonial.Restaurant that was so good last year. Again, poor everything. The ice cream in all places was runny and more like liquid. Barcelo Solymar: Very disappointed

I want to start by saying I love Cuba and the people. I have visited over a dozen times and have never experienced these issues. This last visit was very disappointing and has discourage me from ever going back. From the time we got to the resort it have been nothing but upsetting. The rooms were dirty, no towels were available until the 4th day. I kept getting the run around from staff. We had to change rooms three times due to issues. Occidental Punta Cana: Occidental Punta Cana

This is the worst resource which I ever visited Punta Cana above the other 5. So do not even think to go to this place or it will make your self regret and feel stupid. In my last word, garbage food and they will try to hook you up with their scammed time share.

Barcelo Bavaro Beach: Ok

Clean grounds beautiful beach. Rooms outdated, step in showers toilet beside. Premium level not worth the price, Mayan riviera Barcelo resorts so much nicer but beach not as nice. Lots of smokers and communication is a problem unless you speak spanish

Barcelo Bavaro Beach: Good Hotel, Good Food, Good Beach but NO Shade on Beach

All was great, September is off season time and resort was not full. Second time visiting Barcelo Bavaro Beach resort. Week of September 6 - 13 was 6 days sunshine 1 day rain. Great resort and vacation, no issues. Beach - Barcelo Bavaro has no shade area besides palm tree's, had some seaweed obviously but other resorts were much worse from what I hear. Plenty of activities sports or music, can walk to Palace from Barcelo Bavaro beach in 10 minutes. Hotel room - I was staying in Building 2, [... read more] 3 storey building has elevator, room is spacious, has a balcony ocean view, comfortable bed with all necessities such as hair dryer, full shampoo/conditioner, coffee machine, fridge. Never had a problem with AC or no hot water. Water was always very hot. Food at the restaurants was plenty, good, many choices, all was fresh no issue. Restaurant MIRAMAR at Barcelo Bavaro Palace extremely slippery floor.

Occidental Caribe: Not worth it. Go to Mexico or Cuba instead.

I wrote a lengthy review on TripAdvisor you can check out. I can see why Canadians do not want to go to Punta Cana. Their service is so poor and the maintenance of the hotel is lacking enough that Cuba or a 3 star in mexico is better than Occidental. We tipped everyone and still did not receive mediocre service, let alone good service. We managed to visit 1 a la carte only. Lots of locals on weekends. Rude, cold servers, except for 1 lady. Beach was choppy. Lots of vendors. Not worth it.
