Paradisus Varadero: Wonderful beach, plenty of lounges to enjoy sunshine or shade and not crowded !

Nice restaurants, friendly staff, food not always warm but plenty to chose from. The family Concierge is very modern and spacious. The old part is getting nicely renovated, could use updated furniture. Beds are comfortable and everything is very clean.

Palma Real: palma real varedero

hotel was okay food great but bad timing fidel died night arrived so lots was cancelled no shows music ect had to change rooms as no hot water then no water at all staff friendly and helpful would stay there again

Hotel Villa Cuba: It's our return place twice per year

I've been going to this resort for the past 3 1/2 years, as much as I possibly can. In that short time I have been witness to many new improvements in the resort. The staff were always amazing, the food is Getting better, but remember it is Cuba, I recommend bringing spices, hot sauce, and chocolate!!!

The rooms were clean and the staff friendly although I had heard of some people having issues because perhaps not an acute understanding of the urgency of their situation. (A relative had passed and getting help, accessing outside phone lines etc., was not easy for them and they ended up being helped by other guests). Resonance Blu Varadero: BEAUTIFUL GROUNDS

THE GROUNDS ARE BEAUTIFUL. IT WAS A GREAT PLACE TO GO FOR A WALK. THE POOLS ARE NICE. THE BEACH IS EXCELLENT WITH AN ABUNDANCE OF LOUNGE CHAIRS AND SHELTERS. THE SHUTTLE SERVICE DID NOT EXIST AS THEY HAVE NO DESIGNATED STOPS AND NO REGULAR TIMES. IN A ONE WEEK STAY WE WERE OFFERED ONE RIDE ON A SHUTTLE THAT WAS FULL. FOOD WAS OK AS THERE WAS A VERY GOOD SELECTION BUT FOR QUALITY ON ALL ITEMS WE HAVE TO REMEMBER THAT THIS IS CUBA. THE SUNWING REPS DID NOT GIVE ANY INFORMATION ABOUT THE RES [... read more]ORT. Club Kawama: Nice Resort

The hotel/resort is one of the older ones at over 80 years old. However, it has most of the modern amenities. The pools are nice with shallow and really shallow sections for kids and toddlers (there is also a small playground for kids). The pool bar is open 24 hours. The lobby bar is open until 11:00 PM daily and helps when you are waiting in the lobby or hanging out there. There is a nice small gym. The room was basic with decent beds, old CRT televisions (no remote though), air conditioning, a [... read more] small fridge and safe. This is the basic room to my knowledge. The upscale rooms are bigger and have things such as bidets. There are better rooms and "houses" available as well on the property. The grounds are well-kept. There are gardeners working on the grounds everyday. There are security personnel on the grounds 24 hours keeping an eye on everything. There are three restaurants, a buffet restaurant, an Italian restaurant and an 'International' restaurant. The latter two require reservations. The latter two also had better food. Then again, one does not go to Cuba for the food. There are a few "convenience" stores on the premises where you can buy essentials you may have forgotten to pack as well as souvenirs and Cuban cigars. The beach is nice and clean. You just have to get-up early to get some chairs. Most people tend to put their towels or other personal effects to 'reserve' the chairs. If you're not on the beach to get a chair by 8:00 AM, you may not get one all day. The water is clear blue and warm. The temperature was between 27 C to 30 C the entire time we were there. Though it never really felt that hot as there was always a nice breeze. the resort also has a bar on the beach and depending where you are on the beach, the pool bar is not that far off as well. Most beaches have locals always trying to sell you something. This beach was no different. What was different was, they came and talk to you once and then left you alone which was nice. Remember to pack some insect/mosquito repellent. You are in a part of the world where you may run into them. I did not get too many bites. Just one day of a few mosquito bites. I had a roll-on medication to soothe them. There is a bank a 5 minute walk outside the resort where you can exchange currency. You can also buy Cuban pesos at the bank using Canadian credit cards (sorry no debit cards). Money can also be exchanged at the front desk but the bank has a better rate. I did not find any bank machines (ATM) on the resort or near it. The staff, from the wait staff, to gardeners, housekeepers, to the night watchmen etc.at the resort were very nice, always cheerful and helpful. Many would have a conversation with you, if you were so inclined. There were some minor issues with my room and the staff took care of it immediately. For me, I found the staff made this vacation for me. I would definitely go back just because of the staff.

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Very Relaxing Holiday

The Hotel was clean with great service and friendly staff. Beach was always clean and organized. Restaurants were great especially Sakura(Japanese themed restaurant) and the buffet was great. The pool was always kept clean and there was lots to do.

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Amazing Resort!!

So we stayed at this resort the first week of December 4-8 2016, and I'd like to start off by saying that this was the best Cuba experience I'd ever had. The resort was absolutely gorgeous and well kept, the beach were pristine, clean white sand, zero seaweed, beach volleyball nets, paddle boats, and catamaran rides all included. The rooms were pretty nice, clean bedding and towels were replaced daily as well as bottled water. Fully controllable air conditioning is also inside every room. I' [... read more]d say the only issues i had with the room were the shower head worked fine and hot and cold water was available, but the shower head itself did not have a hanging attachment on the wall so you have to hold it whenever you wanted to use it. Issue #2 is the in room safe had an error code when we tried resetting the code number. We called the front desk to report the issues and they said they would send someone to the room, which they probably did while we weren't there. These issues were definitely not deal breakers and weren't really a big deal. And now the most important part.... The FOOD..... To my amazement the food was really good! In fact the best I've ever had in Cuba..... However, there is a bit of a disclaimer to that statement. If you're the kind of person who loves the variety of a buffet style breakfast lunch and dinner then you'll love the amount of options they have, unfortunately 90%of the options don't look very appetizing. The real All-star in the food court is the hot table, you can get freshly grilled steak, shrimp, eggs and fish or varieties of pizza fresh out of the oven and freshly made pasta. If you do stay here make sure you take advantage of the a la carte restaurants, we had the Japanese 2 nights in a row, it was the best meals we had during our stay. They also have the typical 24 hrs snack bar of fries, hamburgers and hot dogs. Overall, our experience at Langua Azul was great and better than expected, I would highly recommend this resort anyone!

Paradisus Varadero: Amazing Experience

We stayed in the new Family Concierge section. Just opened Nov 1, modern, spa feel to the rooms. The grounds and resturants are beautiful. The staff are super friendly. Can't wait to come back next year.

Barcelo Solymar: Amazing time !!

Stayed the week December 3 to the 10, 2016. Stayed on fourth floor oceanview..awesome location..10 minutes walk from downtown. Had a great time..the food was ok..Ala carte restaurants had no a/c.we didn't starve...entertainment was ok..missed beach party because it was not advertised anywhere and we had gone to town to party..

Starfish Jibacoa: great value

As soon as you arrive, the friendly staff are there to make sure you have everything you need. We arrived late ( 1 am) and the check in went very smooth. The grounds are a park like setting. The gardeners do amazing manicuring and is very pleasing to the eye and camera. If you get a bungalow, which I highly recommend, it's like having your own little cottage even though they are attached with 3 other bungalows. The beach is the best I have seen in Cuba. The sand is coarse but the water is c [... read more]lear and clean. We had no problems with jelly fish. We were told that they have a cycle and sometimes come closer to shore. If you have snorkelling gear, take it. The reef is amazing. There are 2 paddle boats you can take out and enjoy the views. We just stuck our water proof camera a few inches under the surface of the water and got some really good photos of the reef. I cannot drink the Cuban coffee because it is so strong so tea filled in that need for me. My husband had the cappachino which he enjoyed. The specialty coffees at the lobby bar are good as well. At breakfast there was an omelet station or you could get eggs any way except poached, it's a grill. The juice is from crystals so don't expect fresh squeezed. Lunch I always had the pasta and soup over rice. Sometimes I had the Cuban sandwich . If they don't have the sliced ham out, just ask the staff dressed in black and he will get it for you. There was a wide variety of foods available but I played it safe and only ate what I knew. Supper was the same for me. My husband ate a lot of different foods that I wouldn't try. They had fresh grilled fish(tuna or cat fish). The dessert bar was well stocked as were the homemade buns and breads. I would say the buffet wasn't the best I have seen but I didn't lose any weight during the week of Dec 1-8 2016 that we were there. It's a quiet place with activities all day long. Alot of return guests also. Some had been there 40 times. Some families from Havana came and enjoyed themselves as well. We didn't do any excursions except one night we chose to go to The Tower restaurant for supper. They also have lunch with the same choices. It was worth the $15 CUC's each. The Transat rep Roberto was helpful and always smiling. He told us if you leave something out on the porch expect it to be missing when you go back for it and that is true. Your room on the inside is a safe place though. We didn't get the safe(at an extra cost) but we didn't need to. Consider taking jewelry, shoes, makeup, gardening gloves or chocolates instead of giving money as tips. We didn't tip money all week and we got the same attention as anyone else did. There are two pools one was almost completed and the other pool was not too cold. There are always plenty of chairs and shaded spot whether you are on the beach or at the pool area. The Cubans are great people. We would go back to this resort

Club Kawama: Great value!

The Pool was very clean and large enough to accommodate the guests with comfortable chairs. The beach is very beautiful but the chairs were not comfortable and there weren't enough of them. The standard rooms are not large enough but the superior rooms were much better. The staff were helpful and wanted to please the guests. Most of them were quite friendly. The outside eating areas and lobby were too smokey- should not allow smoking in eating or enclosed areas. The public bathrooms often had no [... read more] toilet paper but were usually kept clean.As far as food was concerned, there was always something good to choose at the buffet. The soups & omelets were really good and the food at the a la carte Italian was really good. Beds & pillows were not the best but bringing an extra pillow and mattress cover would help. The location was really good because it was a short bus ride or cab ride to shopping and restaurants.

Hotel Los Cactus: A great place to unwind!

My daughter and I took a short holiday to Veradero staying at Breezes. We spent the week playing tennis, swimming in the pool and ocean, sun bathing, snorkelling, chatting, bingo, trivia, eating, drinking, reading, playing cards and just relaxing. The accommodations were spacious and clean. The service was outstanding and so friendly. We enjoyed the restaurants, the coffee bar (got hooked on the Jamaican coffee) and the entertainment (especially the band at the lobby bar). We met some wonder [... read more]ful people that I know we'll stay in touch with. It's a welcoming and a very comfortable place to be.

Sol Varadero Beach: Slightly above par

This is my third time at this resort, the staff are great, the property is clean and well kept, but in the past you could at least count on a couple of days of good food. Unfortunately in my opinion they dropped the ball this time, don't get me wrong I dident starve . But that would be the only complaint for this trip.

Playa Caleta: Resort in need of some repair and TLC

Our room was clean and comfortable but would have appreciated real pillows other than folded pieces of blanket in pillow case. We had great water pressure and hot water on the first floor but were given to understand that that was not the case on upper floors. As a retired insurance adjuster I was very aware of "accidents waiting to happen". There is broken, missing and loose tile flooring throughout the twin resorts. In areas of the foyer the ceiling was leaking, probably from air conditione [... read more]rs as there was no rain for the 11 days we were there. During the day warning cones would be placed but if leak occurred "after hours" no warning was given. The last evening we were there one huge area was a puddle with no warning and as the lighting was poor you didn't know until standing in it. Water on smooth ceramic tile is not a good mix. I did take photos of cracked and poor tiling. There are three elevators and after the first day only one was in operation which was probably a good thing as the two inoperable ones had holes rusted through the floors. A can of paint had been spilled in the operable one and no effort had been made to clean it up. The elevator frequently was not working. We had no problem with this as we were on the first floor. The lighting throughout the resorts was very poor with most not working. Very dicey at night due to the state of the outside tile ares as previously mentioned. The outside stairway was very poorly lit with huge areas in total darkness and when the elevator wasn't working at night this was very dangerous. In my opinion a security guard should have been posted with a flashlight in these stairways at night at those times the elevator was not working. The food in the buffet was very poor. It seemed at times they didn't have enough. At one meal there was eight platters of cheese in one area, diced, in sticks, julienned and shredded. Fruit was in short supply and consisted of pineapple, watermelon and papaya. Bananas were served once in 11 days and considering Cuba is has a huge citrus and banana growing area we couldn't understand this. The food in the buffet was consistently cold and meat on the carving table undercooked. However the restaurants, Casablanca and Italian were excellent. We didn't get to experience the Chinese restaurant as when we attended November 28 to book we were advised it was fully booked until December 9. when on our last night December 8, we attended to see if there had been cancellations we saw people in there that had arrived only days before, so not sure what how this had happened. We did appreciate the location and the 25 minute walk to the bus as we enjoyed the walk along the canal. There were horse and buggies available for those that couldn't or didn't want to walk. The staff seemed very unhappy. One waiter told us that at one point they had waited 20 days to get paid. The staff, who were pleasant enough to guests, seemed to stand around whining, moaning and gossiping among each other. Of course this was apparent in their attitude. In closing I would like to say that we did enjoy our vacation. The beach was great but could have used more chaises, the weather was glorious and we didn't let the resorts condition bother us. We realize it was only three stars, that it is Cuba and we probably got what we paid for but we wouldn't want to recommend this resort to a friend. We appreciated the vouchers, which we used, for the VIP lounge and park and fly and would certainly use trip central again. We would and already have recommended Trip Central to friends. Hotel was very nice .The price is right for a group of people to go and have fun for a week . Can walk to the Bars at night . Food was not bad for Cuban food. Needed more chairs on the Beach. I would go back again.

you get what you pay for.front desk was very good and fast The buffet was not much for choice and even less if you came late A la cartes were ok Bar tenders were not very good and the drinks they made were below average. Waited three days for beach towels.air conditioning in room was why to cold and wouldn't turn down.Amazing beach

This is was my sixth stay at this resort.Have been to Cuba over fifty times. Will be coming back to this hotel very soon.In the past year there was many improvements done to the rooms and variety of food was good enough to please everyone.

Enjoyed my stay at the resort, the beach was nice, grounds loving and the people were wonderful. It was a quite week as the President Castro passed away,so the country was to mourn for 9 days,no music,no dancing, no alcohol off the resort.
