Muthu Playa Varadero: Sunshine and sand!

This is my 4th time in Cuba and first time at this resort in Varadero. We had a fantastic relaxing time. The rooms are showing their age and could use some touch ups but we didn't go on vacation to stay in our room! I brought my 10 year old and 8 year old who are picky eaters but they did not go hungry! The omelette bar was awesome for breakfast and on the 3rd day there, we discovered if you asked for bacon they just might have it and will cook it up for you. There were hamburgers, hotdog [... read more]s and pizza at the poolside restaurant which was great for the kids. The beach restaurant always had meat being BBQ ed and it was delicious. When the kids were feeling particularly fussy, the pasta bar at the buffet always saved the day! The pool was cleaned daily. The staff for the most part seemed friendly enough but our favorite was Wilfredo who really put in an effort with all he did. He left a lasting impression with my family. And that man knows how to make the best tasting coffee! I would recommend this resort as a place to go if you are just looking for somewhere to relax for the week. Definately not party central.

Melia Las Antillas: Nice Resort

We had the VIP Concierge service and stayed on the 5th floor of the main building. The view was beautiful. We could see the ocean from the front and back. The extras were a nice touch. Rooms are not fancy but they are very clean. There's plenty of room, with a sitting area, TV and a balcony. The cleaning staff and Concierge will ensure all your needs are met. The buffet is OK but the restaurants are very good. They also offer nice wines for a price. With our service, I had the lobster dinn [... read more]er which was fantastic. The beach is amazing. No need to reserve your chairs early, as there are plenty. The water is not deep and the waves are fun. The pool is huge but since we're beach people and never went into it. You can change your money at the resort. The CDN exchange rate was $0.714. Entertainment was very good but 3 days before we left, Fidel Castro passed away. That meant no music or entertainment for 9 days. The resort was quiet but that was ok. Vendors are at the lobby level every day. They've got some nice things and prices are reasonable. Vendors tend to change regularly. The people at the resort are nice and friendly. They work hard for little pay so tip well.

Hotel Bella Costa: Good resort

Second time atthis hotel, after 7 years. Renovations made the place nicer. Breakfast is so-so but lunch and dinner were great! Pool was nice, but we spent most of our time at the beach, which was amazing.

Be Live Turquesa: Great Resort

The Turquesa is an older resort however they are undertaking a major upgrade at the end of May to November 2017. The room was a little time worn but very clean. The grounds are very well kept. We didn't spend much time by the pool but it appeared to be well kept & clean. The beach was beautiful, clean and pretty much stone free. The food was adequate, plentiful with enough choice to suit every taste. Mar Del Sur: Can't think one one complaint!

I had such an incredible time, especially as my first solo trip. The staff were extremely friendly. I really enjoyed the food. I was worried about negative reviews, but had realistic expectations. WELL worth the price paid.

Roc Barlovento: Nice location

Good location, close to center of Varadero. Clean grounds and pools, very nice beach. Clean room. Bath needs to be renovated. Food is fair but acceptable. Most staff are smiling and courtious. Had 2 a la carte suppers ok.

Muthu Playa Varadero: LOVED THE RESORT!!!!

We found it wonderful!!! A smaller more cozy resort. You would meet the same people repeatedly. The rooms were clean and spacious. The hotel had elevators!!!! which became a necessity after an injury. The food was flavourful but............the menu was repeated & repeated etc. The front desk employee were polite & helpful. The Sunwing Rep. was also extremely helpful in getting us a wheelchair when he got injured. The beach was also fantastic!! We would return to this resort in th [... read more]e future.

Hotel Los Cactus: Just right!!

The layout of the hotel/grounds was great. Beach was beautiful with a long shoreline. Most of the food was good, you just had to choose what you like. Some plates actually very good. Transport to and from very organized. Service okay.

Valentin El Patriarca Varadero: Amazing resort will definitely go back in the future

We visited the Ocean Varadero el Patriarca, the week of November 19-26 and found it too be a totally positive experience. My husband and I were traveling with another couple with whom we have done a fair bit of traveling. We booked into a deluxe room. The Ocean Varadero el Patriarca is a definite 5 star hotel. The hotel is clean, staff is amazing and the food delicious whether you are eating in the snack bar, buffet or one of the a la carte restaurants. Check in went very smoothly and we wer [... read more]e in our rooms very quickly which allowed us plenty of time to visit the buffet before closing (our flights were late arrivals and we were at the hotel around 930, buffet closed at 10). Even at that late hour, the buffet was beautifully stocked with a variety of appetizing choices. The pool area which was kept extremely clean provided choices of many comfortable chairs and there was never a lack of places to choose from. Definitely did not have to rush before sunrise to stake out a good location. The hotel did not require for reservations at the a la carte restaurants (those who booked Privilege, were granted reservations) for its guests. The process was on a first come basis. The restaurants opened at 630 and to ensure entry, we usually arrived around 6. It is unfortunate that there were some who arrived at 630 and they proceeded to bump in front of those who had been waiting.In most cases those arriving before 630 were accommodated, but the inconsideration of some patrons, did present some challenges. It was definitely worth the wait for the a la carte, the menus provided a good variety so there was always something for everyone to choose from. Some changes to the menu did occur when an item for whatever reason was not available but worry not the substitution was just as good. Our favorite restaurant was the Oriental. The staff was amazing and very accommodating. Our appetizers were so good, we asked for more and they were quick to meet our requests. We never felt rushed and the food arrived well presented and was delicious. We liked this restaurant so much we went back for a second time during our week (the staff remembered us and were very welcoming. If you do not like Oriental, you will enjoy your meal at the Gourmet or Italian just as much or if buffet is more your speed, fear not, lots of choices with prepared food in addition visit the grill station, pasta station or desert station. The entertainment at this hotel was probably the best we have ever encountered. The house band that played primarily in the Piano bar was exceptional. They made it a party atmosphere inviting the guests and wait staff to join in or dance if they so wished. The wait staff in the Piano bar were fantastic. They provided quick service though out the show and even anticipated your needs (drinks would appear just as your glass was emptying ). This hotel is definitely worth considering, you won't be disappointed.

Hotel Bella Costa: home away from home

Week of November 18-25 2016 I have been to Varadaro several times and now have finally found my home away from home. The staff at The Hotel Bella Costa is what makes this place so wonderful. Every turn in the hotel you are greeted with happiness and smiles. From the security in the front to the reception desk to the entertainment and bar staff...awesome people :) The hotel is aged but so clean. Jaclyn ( housekeeping) for room 324 was amazing - she made us feel so special every day and greeted [... read more] us with smiles.....She surprised us EVERYDAY with her beautiful talent of towel art. It’s the little things that I appreciate. The beach is beautiful and clean - the pool was a bit busy because of the afternoon actives in the pool area but it was so much fun. I meet so many wonderful and interesting people at this hotel. I love to hear the stories from the long time returning guests.....We took a private tour to Havana and it was so amazing...way better than by the tour bus that I had done a few years back with so many other guests..... I did hear that there was a catamaran trip that the crew stopped the trip just short of the dock and demanded $10.00 from each of the 85 guests...not cool!!! That not the Hotels fault but I felt so bad for the guest and they were warning us not to go!!! So please be careful if you decide to do this excursion. The buffet food was amazing for all the meals that I was there for but my breakfast was the best...I love the omelet lady - she was so funny and always remembered that I needed to have egg white :) I went for a couple of massages it was so cheap and it helped me to relax so much easier! Book when you get there....he books up fast! Souvenirs are cheaper with the vendor by pool area than in the market place in Varadaro... they have a wonderful artist in the lobby that is so talented and I am looking forward to giving my sketch to my special guy for Christmas...shhhh :) They also sell wonderful beautiful paintings in the evening ....there is so much wonderful talent at the Bella Costa. I do not want to give up all the details of my stay at the Bella Costa - you need to go and make your own memories there  Have a safe and wonderful trip!!

Starfish Jibacoa: Wonderful

Grounds are extremely well kept. Food is so so with long hours between availability of food. Staff were fabulous. This was a gem. Would go back in a heartbeat. Restaurants that were close by were excellent, with cabs/cars available when required. Thank you so much for a great vacation.

Los Delfines: good, cliean, small

real Cuban experience, old unique hotel, oceanfront rooms are very large basic rooms, great amazing view, staff are amazing, friendly. resort is very old but clean, location is right downtown, walk to everything.....shopping, bars, resturants, .....food is very repetitive, very bland but didn't go to cuba for the food, beach is the best

Barcelo Solymar: Great resort for singles!

Food was good in the buffet (didn't try any a-la-cart restaurants) Great big beach to relax, or sit near the music. Nice selection of pools. Close walk to clubs. Close to airport. Always people ready to mingle...all day. Disco's too loud and cluttered with chairs. Gym was under maintenance all week Nov. 19-26/2016. Good service by all staff. Water dripped from bathroom ceiling. Not much going on during the day expect relax or drink!

Palma Real: Acceptable for *** Stars

It is My second time at this hotel, and coming back is not an exclusion. The buildings are in renovation at this point . and after that I am sure it will look good.....The only big problem we had in the building # 1, was a terrible noise created by few young people That were always coming to the hotel between 2 and 4 in the morning; Fighting ,yelling,kicking doors etc. Even after complaints to the Management: We didn't have any chances to sleep more than 2 nights of 7.We are proposing the Manag [... read more]ement to ask security personal to check every floor very often and stop noisy people to enter the building....Most of the people are going there to relax : Not to wake up at 2 or 3 in the morning..No comments about all hard working people at the resort ....Thanks for their efforts ....The food totally acceptable for the price we pay. ....Also no bad comments about cleaning everywhere .The beach is permanently full of dogs ....Can you find the way to get rid of them ?

Playa Vista Azul: Great resort

Ocean Vista Azul Varadero Cuba exceeded our expectations. Our room was amazingly clean and spacious. We didn't take the priveldge package and still had a great view of the ocean! The grounds were exceptional and the groups of rooms wonderfully laid out. This resort is on a cliff with a small beach on one side and a larger beach on the other. The larger beach was beautiful. The food was not five star but edible. We never went hungry. Staff was helpful and courteous. There was one outlet in th [... read more]e washroom with 110 v so we were able to charge our iPad and kindles. Very convenient. If I had one negative thing to say it was that they could have a snack bar for lunch on the larger beach. It wasn't a long walk to the pool BBQ however. I would recommend this hotel and look forward to returning one day.

Roc Barlovento: Solid average mid-range AI

23rd trip to Cuba as tourist, tour leader, working with/for Cuban govt. Have travelled from Baracoa to Vinales and in-between, at AIs, friends homes and Casas. 3rd time at Barlevento. Best location: at the south end of town, everything in the core right outside resort. No kids, mostly older crowd. If you can get this place for a good price, take it. Ask for room away from main pool/stage.... noise goes from about 3 to 10:30 pm.Staff awesome, esp. if you have some Spanish. Grand Memories Varadero: First Trip to Cuba

Nice Hotel and people...but too many smokers to enjoy the outdoor evening events. No problem with the room and when toilet wouldn't flush they sent a repair person right away. I preferred the restaurant dinners to the buffet dinners and you have to register early even though they didn't seem that busy...

Hotel Los Cactus: Breezes Stay

This resort is beautiful nestled on a lovely beach. Enjoyed meeting people while night of karaoking. I found the water pressure very low when attempting to use warm water and the staff not responsive.

Playa Vista Azul: Amazing Staff, Beautiful Hotel

Ocean Vista Azul is a beautiful, well kept hotel. Our rooms were clean and the staff were always ensuring the facilities were as well. The Entertainment staff and Pool Bar staff quickly got to know everyone and provided outstanding service. My son fell and cut his head and the staff responding quickly and had us taken to the clinic to get stitches. When we returned, they followed up throughout the week to ensure he was okay and went out of their way to help us have a great vacation.

Hotel Bella Costa: Beautiful stay

Hotel is very nice. Rooms are very clean the staff is friendly and amazing. The food is good we had a wonderful stay at the Bella Costa all of our requests were fulfilled upon request. Jacquelyn our maid was wonderful and always left little notes which we looked forward to reading every day along with all the little characters she would make with the towels always brought a smile to our faces. I am planning a personal return visit next year to the same hotel it is quaint and lovely
