Sanctuary at Grand Memories Varadero: Super!

This was an incredible resort! Wonderful food. If you don't like it you are very picky. I have been to many resorts in Cuba nothing like this. It is not authentic however it is a place I would recommend for a relaxing holiday. Sanctuary gives you the opportunity to a la carte everyday if you like. The servers are kind and soooo hospitable. They make you feel like royalty! Thank you

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: real nice place

everything was good except the food, I lost weight which was good but it was because I couldn't eat the food, they have to upgrade the food in all the hotels , everyone says the same, food was okay when we made reservations at the specialty restaurants, the Italian was very good, the shows were good every night, the market in veradero was great and the catamaran trip was fantastic, the crew on the Lire were very funny and we had a great time, I will be going back, Sunwing rep at the hotel was a  [... read more]very nice guy and spoke very good English

Roc Arenas Doradas: Nice place

Nice resort,friendly staff. I will go back there again.The food was okay and they make great drinks. The beach was clean with lots of chairs to relax on. So far the best resort i have been to in cuba.

Roc Arenas Doradas: So-So Resort

The overall hotel was 2/5. Food wasn't the greatest, room/suits are decent. Beach is nice, scenary/landscape is very pretty. Maids/staff are friendly. Entertainment and attractions need improvement...

Memories Jibacoa: Very nice holiday location

The Jibacoa Memories Resort was much as we expected. The staff were generally very pleasant and helpful. Our room was adequate although there was very little water pressure for the shower. The room was in good condition and well cleaned before our arrival and each day. The main buffet was adequate although somewhat repetitious. The al a carte dining ( 3 out of 7 nights) was excellent. Although the coral reef is right out front, as I expected, the winds resulted in the beach being red flagged every day. The staff and locals confirmed that wind is usual there. Regardless, we did enjoy snorkelling and saw a good selection of tropical fish. .

Palma Real: Good enough for what a hotel is needed

Hotel is just ok but what I didnt like is the attitude of the hotel workers, especially receptionists, security guys and bartenders. They dont give a good service, never a smile! They treat customers as if were stupids when we ask for something. They dont make us feel good. They seem to be mad all the time. Dont care about the customer! I heard the same from other guests.

Playa Vista Azul: Awesome Staff!!!

Awesome Staff at the pool bar, Yosnier and his gang! Awesome people! Thank you! Smiley and her gang in the Buffet! They were all so nice! Our hotel room was nice and the housekeeping did a great job of keeping it nice and cleaned up for us! The a la Carte restaurants had good food but had very slow service, our order was delayed a long while due to it being lobster night and they interrupted cooking our order to serve the lobster first. The dancers were also awesome, our favorite was Abraham! Hope your ankle is getting better! There were two beaches, the better one a longer walk but much nicer, seems will be shared with the resort right next door once it is renovated so it might be busier once all opened. I definitely recommend this resort!

Blau Varadero: A delightful experience

Well on the first night, the receptionist gave us the first floor room which smelled of smoke. The luggage man turned up the A/C full blast to get rid of the smell. As a result I had to wear a full gear of scarf and jacket during my slumber that night. We stayed one more night and on Friday Armando from Sunwing met me and I explained about the situation and after he spoke with the receptionist, we got moved to the sixth floor which was in much better shape and no smoke odor and that was where [... read more] we stayed for the reminder of the vacation. Most staff were friendly and attentive. The only thing is that the receptionist was not allowed to give us small changes like smaller denominations in either US, CAN or CUC. This has caused inconvience for tipping purposes. The weather was perfect, the waves were inspiring, and I enjoyed the papayas and the pickled fish at every meal with lots of sweets. I also liked their palle rice. I was grateful for the foods and drinks compare to what the locals have. The doubl decker bus was a great value for the money. We enjoyed sitting under the hut by the beach and sleep,dream, or treading the waves, or just reading.

Hotel Bella Costa: fantastic, that's it fantastic

The suite was more than we ever expected, two floors, three bathrooms,seriously? The towel guy, the entertainment staff, the omelette girl, the pasta guy, the maid, our four kids had a fantastic time and are already saving for next year. Hotel Bella Costa :)

Melia Marina Varadero: Wonderful stay

The resort was very nice. The rooms were clean and more than adequate for our needs. The food was repetitious at the buffet and the hot dishes usually warmish at best. The presentation was good though. The three specialty restaurants were good and we especially enjoyed the oriental one. We went on the Havanna day tour and had an informative day. We also took the hop on and off bus to Veredaro for 5 cucs. Fun. The nightly entertainment was excellent, especially the singers and musicians in  [... read more]the lobby.

Club Kawama: Food and Service has gone down hill

My sister and I have stayed at this resort around 5 times. We just came back from there and I am not a picky person but the service and food have gone down a lot at this resort. Don't know if I would go back again.

Iberostar Selection Varadero: we picked this resort for our 50th. anniversary and no regrets what so ever.

this is our second trip to iberostar varadero and we still thought it was great very clean well kept and the service was very good. the hotel has kept some of its character unlike the newer ikea square box no character hotels.also i noticed that while the staff accepted tips i did not get the feeling that i was hoovered over to get the tip.and no notice of any change in service if i did not tip. its a great hotel and we have stayed at 12 other hotels in cuba. jim&adele

Melia Marina Varadero: Melia Marina Varadero

This hotel is very nice. Great view of the marina, nice rooms and lobby, great nightly entertainment in the lobby. Good drinks and service. Buffet food very repetitious and not hot enough. Rooms were very clean and maid service was prompt.

Roc Arenas Doradas: whiskey George

First timer with friends that are return guests. For my age of 88 years it was easy to get around with flat sidewalks that were well maintained.The pool had easy gradual access, and every staff member was polite and acommodating.I had no problem to get on or walk the beach..piano music in lobby was soothing and refreshing to the ears.I thank my friends for showing me this hotel that caters to the elderly.Senior Paradise!

Roc Arenas Doradas: return guests

Having been to the Roc we knew what to expect and weren:t disappointed. everything was perfect as every other time.The only gripe was at the pool that the music was to loud at times and some mellow music at times would be nice to relax. all in all it was the best as in other years .will return.

Sanctuary at Grand Memories Varadero: Staff need some help.

There are some wonderful things about this resort namely the beach and the staff!!! I can't say enough about the staff throughout the resort! There was ample food selection but preparation was not great (I guess you can't please everyone all of the time). The pool area is small and often you could not get chairs which isn't a problem if you like the beach. The public washrooms outside of the Sanctuary portion of the resort were awful. Usually there was no hand soap, toilet paper, paper towe [... read more]ls or even toilet seats, and the toilets were often plugged. I don't think the staff had proper cleaning products to work with and it appeared most of the time they were cleaning with rags and water. Things are very worn for example the towels and bedding have seen much better days and don't smell very good (back to the soap) The whole resort seems a little run down. To sum it up the staff were amazing and very hard working but they need a little help. Nothing some soap, a few good plumbers and maybe a power washer and paint couldn't fix. This may be a 4+ star resort in Cuba but in Mexico standards (despite the wonderful staff and beautiful beach) I would rate it a 3 star when you factor in the overall condition of the resort itself.

Gran Caribe Sun Beach: Horrible

So I personally would never go back to this particular resort , this is my 4th time at @31-/2 stars and this was for sure a 2, elevator was more not working than yes, room key 9 out of 10 wouldn't work so had to use stairs 6 floors , more importantly , lobby washrooms , pool side washrooms , No toilet paper !! Buffet seriously was no choices , very small and not much to choose from, thankfully they made fresh eggs every morning and always had pasta , that's what we ate most days , thankfully it [... read more]'s safe to walk the streets so we found places to eat outside the resort , Beach was outstanding , rooms were old but must say we're clean , Again would not recommend

Barcelo Solymar: Just the basics

Great pool areas; we were able to move around based on whether we wanted more or less of a party atmosphere. Unfortunately, the food was nothing special. The buffet was cold, and often mislabeled. It wasn't horrible, just blah. The buildings are a little old and tired, which explains the construction (which did not bother us, with the exception of having the sports bar under renovation). All in all, I expected more from a Barcelo resort, seeing as past experience has been excellent.

Melia Marina Varadero: Our fourth time at Melia Marina

Still as good the 4th visit. Our first visits did not include the upgrade to The Level , but our last two did. We like the spoils of the upgrade, no running for beach towels, no standing in line to book restaurants, room service, late check-out, etc. With some patience we found the upgrade available at the same price as a regular room, but we book last minute. Remember you are located the farthest from the town of Varadero, so if you like to visit or enjoy active nightlife I would suggest you s [... read more]tay at the older hotels close to downtown. Unable to comment on the buffet because the upgrade includes our private rooftop restaurant with a-la-carte restaurant. Lazaro was always there with a smile to serve us. The cigar lounge is our preferred hangout after dinner. Service from Patricia and Mabel is excellent, making you feel at home. If you need cigars Mayelin will be more than pleased to serve you. We have had rooms with pool view and Marina view, and both are fine. If you above the ground floor you will have a sea view on both options.

Valentin El Patriarca Varadero: Amazing Resort, just one complaint..

My husband and I decided to stay at Ocean El Patriacra for our one year wedding anniversary. Since we got married at the Ocean Blue and Sand in the Dominican Republic, which was a great experience we decided to try another resort within the chain. Ocean is now my husband and I's favourite resort chain. The way I would compare Ocean Blue and Sand to Ocean El Patriarca is Patriarca is a smaller, more condensed version of Blue and Sand (the properties in Punta Cana are larger than Varadero). Alt [... read more]hough Blue and Sand is still at the top of our list, Patriarca was a very nice resort if you like a smaller property. Overall, El Partiarca was a wonderful resort, the grounds were always well kept, beach is probably the best that I saw along the strip, good variety of food and the entertainment team was engaging. Varadero and Cuba overall iis very safe. We took the wawa (tourist city bus) to the town of Varadero (20 minutes). We also decided not to go with the resort day trip to Havana and went on our own instead, which I would recommend to those who like a bit more flexibility and sense of adventure. Staying at a Casa Particular is very popular, inexpensive and allows you to experience the real Cuba. You take the wawa to Varadero then take the Viaazul city bus (similar to the GO here) directly o Havana. It costed us 20 CUC per person round trip. We got there early because we heard it fills up quickly, which it did. The only area of the resort that needs improvement is the service. My husband and I felt as though we were treated differently than other visitors. It may be due to demographics; we are young and most of the tourists were older Europeans. Everyone spoke so highly about the Cuban people being so friendly, but we did not experience this by the bartenders and waiting staff. We were constantly being overlooked and not given equal service. We would tip well and even display the tip on the table, however that did not change the service. Overall great stay and would recommend it to anyone.
