Brisas Guardalavaca: Awesome resort. Some changes to beware of.

The resort itself is awesome with a great view of the ocean. This is my 8th times being there, with changes happening all the time. One I wasn't impressed with was the snack bar. It can be hard at times to get a table in there when it's busy, now they want you to sit at a table and order your food instead of ordering at the counter for pizza , fries etc. Kind of hard when there isn't a seat to be found. When you sit at a table outside the snack bar the server says he can't serve you or your not [... read more] allowed to have food out there.. very frustrating. Not an improvement in my opinion. Villa reception closed definately not a great decision and hopefully they will reopen soon. If you stay on the villa and have to check in at the hotel or have issue you have to go all the way to the hotel reception. Pulling you luggage to and from the hotel is a challenge and not a plus. The staff is amazing and I would like to say thank you to them for their hard work and friendliness. Raquel in housekeeping on the villa side you are awesome always a smile and a good morning, Danni in the bar always a great conversation, Jesus in the hotel swim up bar the best, Daniel now in sales always a pleasure, Luis mario & Mario in the hotel buffet are great with a hug and a smile. Omar hotel security what a great conversationalist, Arasay the waitress at the bar by the hotel buffet always made us laugh and great service. Booked with trip central through Hola sun flew Air transat. Ease of booking with trip central was great. Hola sun Rep at hotel leaves something to be desired, not there 2 days out of the week and difficult to book excursion,. Air transat service needs some attention and not very friendly. Flight back to toronto was brutally hot and the smell of exhaust was unbearable. Will definitely booked with sunwing again next year

Playa Pesquero: Very clean and big resort

We enjoyed it, very clean, staff is very nice, a little crowded, but overall good food, specially in the A la carte Restaurant. Beach is nice, just got to be careful with some corals, and go early to get your chairs. Rooms and bathrooms all over the site are super neat!

Resonance Blu Varadero: Memories Varadero

The buildings are getting a face-lift and a nice coat of paint. Some of the buildings are even renovated. The rooms were clean, but clean towels are like gold. If there is one in your room...keep it and don't let the maid take it unless you are getting a clean one. My sister had her room clean and the maid didn't leave clean towels. She called the front desk and they told her to ask the maid. She was nowhere to be found. We had to share ours with her. The hotel was nice (a 3.5 star). The grounds [... read more] clean. The pool was nice, but there were cups and wet napkins on the ground and around the chairs at the pool. We never got a pool towel. There are not enough. The beach is okay, but rocky. I've been to much more beautiful beaches in Cuba (Cayo Coco and Santa Maria). The food... you don't go to Cuba for the food, but the buffet was a 2 star. The buffet tables and chairs need an update. The benches need to be recovered, they are all worn and broken. The snack bar was a 3.5 star. The Cuban restaurant was a 3.5 star. The people at this resort were friendly enough, but they don't interact with the guests. I've been to other resorts in Santa Maria and Cayo Coco where they are very friendly and talk with the guests. All in all, I would not go back to this resort.

Club Karey: Don't expect too much from Club Karey

We just spend a week ( January 25 - February 1 )at Club Karey, Varadero. Considering the price and our previous experience in Cuba, we knew what to expect, but even those, we were disappointed: Grounds: the hotel is spread along, you have to walk a distance to get to your destination, which could be a problem for some people. Grounds are poorly maintained. Beach: nice, long stretch of sand, but extremely dirty. It was somehow cleaned only once during our stay. If you decide to walk on the beac [... read more]h, look to broken glass, it is everywhere. Rooms: the hotel accommodation consists of small buildings, which we personally liked, but the cleanliness is questionable. They don't change towels unless you ask for that. Food: typical Cuban food, we personally have no problem with, but not for a picky eater. For two days the resort was at its full capacity and definitely, there was not enough food. Entertainment was good, nice show every night. The resort is close to downtown Varadero and it is very convenient. Definitely Club Karey is in need of complete renovation.

Royalton Hicacos Resort and Spa: Amazing Resort

Everything is amazing...staff, rooms, pools, food, beautiful ocean for walking, private tour to Havana, double decker bus ride to Varadero, no need to reserve chairs at beach or ocean. I definetely would recommend this hotel and hopefully I can return. Travelled with family and they enjoyed it LOTS too

Melia Peninsula Varadero: Nice resort

The grounds were very nice. Food was ok but not excellent. Went 3 days without bath towels, they took their time in providing the towels. Excursions were very good. The room was clean, the shower was really nice with a huge shower head and lots of hot water.

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: Returning guest again and again

Club Amigo is a large resort with an amazing beach and good people. The hotel is older resort, with constant improvements. Villas are decent but hotel rooms are hit and miss. Main hotel is very noisy and it is almost impossible to sleep in or take a afternoon nap, cleaning staff are super noisy in the hallways during the day. It is clean and the staff work hard to keep things running as smoothly as possible. Service can be quite slow at times and patience is required. Food is lacking but as most [... read more] know Cuba is having difficulty at this time obtaining gasoline. Today you might have pasta and none tomorrow, one day ice-cream and none the next it all depends on what is transported that day. There is a great pizza place next door and very reasonable. Try Bennies Restaurant or the 24 hour bar (both located on the resort) for decent sit down breakfast as buffet can be congested at times. If you enjoy learning about culture and meeting Cubans this is a great resort. Lots of dancing next door at the boulevard and weekly parties there as well. Many returning guests that feel like Club Amigo is their second home. Club amigo is not a fancy resort, go with a open mind, take a horse and carriage ride, mingle and enjoy the beach and learn a little about the Cuban life. If you are a picky eater this is probably not the place for you. I recommend taking a cheap pillow as the pillows are quite thin. I love this resort despite some of the things I have mentioned, the beach is great, the boulevard parties are fun to attend and I always find something eat. Enjoy

Sirenis Tropical Varadero: Beautiful and Friendly

The resort was clean and staff was very friendly. Amazing ocean view rooms. A very short walk to the beach. It was our first time in Cuba The two bartenders Manuela and Davy from the beach bar were fantastic. The food wasn’t the best but we made due.

Melia Costa Rey: Needs Work

Our stay at the Pullman resort was okay but they need to fix the infrastructure. The building we stayed at either had no water pressure or pressure was low and no hot water. The facade was either damaged or not repaired properly after the hurricane damaged it and is still evident. The pool had alot of tiles missing and possibly cause injuries and the underwater flood lights were falling out of their housing. The food was typical for Cuba although one night there were not enough clean plates in  [... read more]the buffet. Most mornings had to wait a long time for a server to come by for water or coffee.

Gran Muthu Imperial: Wonderful Resort, Fantastic Staff

The Gran Muthu Imperial is a wonderful resort, the food was very good and the variety provided everyone with ample options. We did experience a few small issues, arriving at the resort at 10:30, we were told our room would be available soon. At noon we returned to the check-in desk and were informed it would be a little bit longer. We did not get to our room until 5:30 pm. There was no Air Canada rep to assist us; and this was partially the Gran Muthu Imperial poor customer service, but the main [... read more] responsibility was with Air Canada. Sunwing and Air Transit had far better representation at the resort. When booking, I'd suggest the other two carriers over Air Canada. The rooms were clean and well maintained, the chambermaid's did a fantastic job in keeping the room clean and stocked with all the essentials. The in room fridge was restocked 4 of the seven days, my something we really missed. The beach was beautiful and provided an excellent relaxing environment. The pool areas were clean and the entertainment staff kept the visitors entertained. There was a power failure that lasted over 19 hours; during this period, the hotel staff were quick to respond setting up outdoor BBQ for dinner. Power was restored at 8:30pm. A minor inconvenience. This resort is on our must visit again list. We've been to Cuba 12 times and this resort was one of our favourites.

Gran Muthu Imperial: Blue skies for days

Overall, we enjoyed our stay. The rooms were nice, comfy beds and a great shower (except it leaked out onto bathroom floor badly). The pools were beautiful with lots of seating around them. The beach was a short walk and gorgeous! The food was decent and plentiful. Our only warning would be to remember to return your beach towel when you leave or they will charge you $30US. Bring your insulated bubba to avoid using plastic glasses all week!

Gran Muthu Imperial: Beautiful resort.

The resort was beautiful, very well laid out, everything was close by but not cramped. The pools design was perfect giving picture perfect views from all three levels. The beach was a little rocky close to the resort but a 100yrd walk and it was fantastic. Being a fairly new resort it was in excellent condition. The food became a little boring by the end of the week and the a la cart meals portion size was small. The staff was excellent and did the best they could with what they had, there  [... read more]was no laundry service so our towels were not changed the whole week and had to be hung on the balcony to dry which took away from the views as all the balconies had towels hanging from them. For an adult only hotel it could have used some night life, after the 9:30 show there was nothing to do on site and most bars were closed by 11. I know it was out of their control but the 16 hour power outage was not handled well, the staff was unable to give us any information and the inability to provide any toilet facilities during the outage was just not acceptable. The staff throughout the outage did their best to keep the booze and food going the best they could and should be commended for their efforts trying to adapt to such difficult circumstances. I am a little upset that no offer of compensation was made to the guests that were unable to leave. Some 200 guests lined up for hours in the afternoon to move to another resort and when it was full the rest of us were left to tough it out. Paying 5 pecos for a cab to take us to another resort to use the bathroom should not have happened.

Melia Las Americas: Great time at Melia Las Americas

The beach area and grounds are stunning. Lots of fun things to do, like percussion and dance lessons. The food is fresh and healthy. Great service and entertainment. Only complaint: dated furniture in the lobby.

Grand Aston Cayo Las Brujas: Beautiful vacation!

My family and I went to the Grand Aston Cayo Las Brujas on January 11-January 21 and we did do VIP. I highly suggest it. In word word I would describe the vacation as fantastic. The resort staff have gone above and beyond our expectations, to accomadate all our needs and wishes. Some highlights of our trip include: The room: very beautiful, nicely cleaned and always well maintained. The beds were very comfortable and the shower was fantastic!! The grounds: very well maintained, there we [... read more]re beautiful gardens. The lobby was gorgeous, very spacious and beautifully decorated. VIP pool: fantastic pool, well maintained, staff working at the bar/snack bar were very friendly and accommodating. Food: food was quite tasteful, you’re always able to find something you like. Very good for people who enjoy fish. The snack bar had really good pizzas. Entertainment: staff did a great job with always providing good music and getting people dancing. There was also amazing shows and live bands/singers. Beach: the beach was beautiful, however my only issues were that there was not a separate section for VIP CLUB. There was a sign with “adults only” however there was no staff to control the amount of kids that did go in the section. Also advertised online it states there is a separate bar for the VIP Club, however. It was empty with no staff. Overall it was a fantastic vacation and I wouldn’t change it for the world. There are certain staff that made the experience worth wild. This included our lovely house keeper Hislajdi Grivas. Our waiter Rosmay Aranzola (he looks exactly like drake). The bartenders at the VIP pool Reidel, Rodriguez and Martinez. Lastly the lobby bar staff Miskely, Magdiel and Dianelys. They always had a smile on their faces and treated us like family. It was extremely special experience. I would definitely come back to this resort I have already recommended to all my friends. Thank you staff at Grand Aston hope to see you again in near future!!

Royalton Hicacos Resort and Spa: Very nice resort

Overall a very nice resort. Very clean and well kept. Grounds were beautiful. The beach is absolutely amazing, with shallow clear, warm water. Staff was very professional and friendly. Food was excellent, best so far for our five trips to Cuba.

Palma Real: Great location and personnel

Being close to everything (local merchants, shops, night life, restaurants, casa del ron etc) this is one of the best locations in Varadero. Yes the hotel needs renovations, there was some rude and inconsiderate Russian guests, and the food is not that great but the personnel (e.g. Dailenys was so attentive and always happy to serve us) and location makes up for it. Very safe to walk the streets day or night.

Sirenis Tropical Varadero: Great resort for the price

We enjoyed our stay at this hotel from Jan 27-feb 3 2020. We found it to be better than the one we stayed at the year previously which had a 4+ rating. The food was not the greatest, but that is Cuba. They do need to help support the staff at the bars as they were overrun with rude Russians. One person at a bar at 7pm to serve 50+ people is not practical. We enjoyed the beach bar with David and Manuela serving us. The occasional server on the beach was a nice touch as well.

Hotel Roc Casa del Mar: Very clean beautiful

We liked everything mostly my boy with autism was happy no stress Was great food was good hotel was clean .beach is beautiful would diffently go there again. The service was very quick and they were all friendly.The entrainment was very good.My son really enjoyed the shows every night.The staff is all very good.The pools were nice clean.

Melia Jardines del Rey: Great experience for my 15 year old

The hotel itself is fine--clean room, hot showers, nice layout except at night need more lighting on the walkways. The food is less than to be desired...by day 4 my daughter and I could not bear to go to the buffet...luckily we had 3 a la carte restaurant vouchers with our package. These restaurants were better food and no greasy oil smell which was hit you instantly when you walked into the buffet. Starfish Jibacoa: Super pour le prix

C’est un petit resort tranquille et bien entretenu les chambres sont propres Mais vieillot un peu. Le personnel très gentils et serviables. Le buffet manque un peu de choix mais il y a toujours quelques choses de bon.C’est un bon rapport qualité prix ! Très satisfaite
