Grand Sunset Princess: Beautiful Resort!

Very clean and beautiful resort. Friendly staff! Everything was beautiful. Only complaint was the usual, no hot food at the buffet. The food was always lukewarm at best and sometimes downright cold. The a la carte restaurants were not much better. Don't know why hot food can't be hot. Other than that a beautiful spot and would return. If not for the food would be a five star all the way

Very nice place, nice people, Food was ok not great And honestly the area in general is almost all American money not Mexican so for a Canadian can get expensive quick!!! Because of that i wouldn't go back but the place is very nice.

Iberostar Waves Quetzal: Amazing Resort

The hotel is amazing in many ways. 1. It's located in a gated area of Playa del Carmen. 2. The receptions and service staff are friendly and experienced 3. The grounds are very well kept and the eco system is very pleasant. 4. The food was fresh and well prepared. 5. I was very thankful for the special attention of the chefs and assistants in providing selections of gluten & lactose free foods(Medical requirement). 6. Ocean Riviera Paradise: Ocean Riviera Paradise

We loved our trip to Ocean Riveria Paradise. Considering it is brand new there are still a few kinks To be worked out and little construction going on, none of which did not affect our stay. The construction workers fit in just regular grounds people, sometimes you would hear from drilling noise but nothing to switch resorts about. We stayed in the El Beso section and loved our room, it was close to the buffet and main lobby, a short walk to the pools and beach. Our room was clean, some days the [... read more] house keepers weee not consistent with cleaning times, how well they cleaned or how many towels they left, but it was not a big problem for us. We left an extra $1 tip in the fridge with a note asking for specific drinks and snacks and we got them everyday once we figures out they like when you leave money. We mostly stayed at the beach during the afternoons, went for strolls down the beach where you walked passed other resorts including Princess Resorts. Beach was a bit rocky but once you got out past the rocks it was ok. Pools were fun, lots of activities going on. We enjoyed all the restaurants and a la carts except the Mexican we did not try. Loved The Blue Moon reataurant the most and the Steakhouse was just ok, steaks were thin and not much flavor. Italian, Route 66 and Japanese we loved! Also loved the ice cream parlor and Mikes Coffee, went there everyday. We also used the Spa, had a couples massage and loved every minute of it!! It was our second last day there when we went to the spa, wish we tried them sooner cause we would have gone again for sure! The lobby and bars all very clean, good drinks. Shows were fun, enjoyed the magic show. Bowling also very fun! Only annnoyance was the staff bugging you and trying to bribe you into doing their Priviledge Tour, they would not take no for an answer, luckily we stuck with it and never did it! Loved this resort, has a great children's area, good lay out, not too long to walk but does have trolleys going around, would come back again!

Selection Riviera Cancun: Great getaway!

The location is spectacular, the grounds and facilities are meticulously maintained. The hotel itself was wonderful, the staff was generally very helpful, most spoke English and were eager to please. Our only beef was that we were confirmed for a swim-up room with two beds, neither of which turned out to be the case. When we complained, were were initially told nothing could be done but, after persisting, we did get the second bed. Catalonia Playa Maroma: Beautiful Resort, Amazing Beach

We upgraded to the privileged section on arrival. Best decision we made! That gave us a better room closer to the beach, an extra a la carte dinner, and we could eat at an exclusive restaurant for bkfst and lunch instead of the buffet. The exclusive restaurant was right on the beach overlooking the water and food was excellent. Didn't eat at the buffet as the food didn't look too good and appeared like it had been sitting out a long time. The service at the resort was excellent, and they [... read more] would go out of their way to get what you want. You could ask them to change up anything on the menu and they would do it. Drinks were very good – never watered down, and they used name brand liquor. They also had a juice bar by the beach where they would mix up all kinds of smoothy type drinks (non-alcoholic). Beach was gorgeous! Also, lots of loungers so you didn’t have to get down super early to save a seat. Pool was nice but we stayed at the beach. We didn’t do any activities. They had beach volleyball every day and some other games, etc. Only went to one show at night, and it was a bit hokey. Wouldn’t go to this resort for the entertainment, but it was fine for us. You can arrange excursions from the hotel. There are guys on the beach renting jet skis, parasailing, etc. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Sandos Caracol Nature Resort and Water Park: Great Family Vacation

Nice staff, property, entertainment, and activities. Our family of five had a great time. Kids are 5, 8, 9. Lots of food & beverages selection and restaurants, all was very good. Our air-conditioned room was a large suite for 5 people (one king bed, one comfy single cot, and one horrible double pull-out sofa bed. It was open-concept, including the washroom area so privacy wasn't great for 5 people! A toilet was behind a locked door.) Our room was the furthest from the beach area/main pool  [... read more]so we would walk about 10 minutes to and from 4 times per day (includes trip to change for dinner). Good exercise but our 5 yr old was running out of steam! A nice feature is a fully stocked mini-bar that includes whatever you want in it ie: juice,beer, chips, etc... If you plan on choosing this hotel for the water slides to have fun with your kids, please do your research first and be informed. The mini kids' slides are in a sunken pool so you cannot lounge while supervising your kids, you'll have to go down in the water pit to see them. The medium slides are for medium kids but no adults allowed. Our boys ages 8 & 9 were tall enough for these but not our 5 1/2 yr old. Sad. The large slides were for adults or very tall kids/teens! Meaning that we couldn't all be together in the slides to have fun together as we had originally anticipated. By the way, the largest slides looked dangerous; I was watching 5 descents and 4 of them knotted themselves on the side of the slides at high speed upon arrival at the bottom. In this water park, a self-served juice/pop machine and ice cream machine were available but no bartender and no alcohol service for anyone. No staff there for towel service and no entertainment either. All to say, we spent all of our time at the main pool where we could all be together; each of us having their own kind of beverage and enjoying the music, activities, and entertainment. Loved the nature and cultural aspect of this resort! Lots, lots of animal around of all kinds! Beautiful cenotes and Mayan ruins! The cultural Mayan shows were great! Secured Kids' Club with bracelet ID pick-up only. We barely used it (2 hrs total) but overall the kids were okay with it. The waters are very rocky for swimming and kept more natural with sea weeds coming onto shore. The beach sand was clean, white, and beautiful. We had a wonderful vacation.

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: FANTASTIC RESORT-PARADISE

My husband and I travelled to Sian Ka'an February 2-9th. We travelled with 14 of our good friends. The weather was great. The resort is beautiful. It is lush, clean and well maintained. Best service we have had at a resort. EVERYONE was pleasant, helpful and always smiling. Yes we did tip but never felt we had to. The food is amazing. Delicious buffet with a great variety of food. Sports bar had great wings. We went to three specialty restaurants. Maiko, Rodizio/Tulum and Alux. My favo [... read more]urite was Maiko. Definitely want to return to try the others. Drinks were delicious especially the Mango Margaritas. House wine both red and white was very good. Going to the beach on the shuttle was fun. Always met new people. Never had to wait long. Beach was great. Lots of chairs and shade. Again great service. Lots of fish to see. We had a gropro and it was great to have a video of all the fish that you were swimming with. Excursion: we booked the Tulum & Jungla Maya Park at the resort. Fantastic day. On one of the zip-lines you land in the water...amazing. They don't allow cameras. We purchase the pictures and videos and were not disappointed. The pictures and videos are great quality. Well worth the price. We wished we had booked two weeks. Definitely will return. Wonderful, wonderful vacation!

Riu Tequila: Will go back to Rui Tequila

Loved the resort, the beach, the pools and the atmosphere. The staff was welcoming and helpful. It was nice to be able to walk to the town from the resort and feel safe to do some shopping. The food selection was wonderful and everything was very tasty - really good food.

Iberostar Waves Quetzal: Favorite vacation location

We have returned to this resort 5 years in a row. Each year we bring along different family members and everyone has enjoyed their stay immensely! The size of the resort is perfect, the beach is great for walking, the pool is always a place where we spend a lot of time. The rooms, the food are all excellent. The best part of this resort is definitely the staff and managers. They are what makes this resort a place where we will always return. We have met the same staff now each year for the  [... read more]last 5 years and they are such lovely and hard working staff. We cannot say enough about the Chefs in the buffet restaurant as well. Several members of our family have dietary restrictions and the resort provided us with a letter to show the staff whenever we were unsure of ingredients in some of the food. Every evening one of the Chef's would walk us through the buffet indicating what was safe for us to eat. Amazing service! It was my birthday and they even surprised me with a dessert that I was able to eat. I cannot say enough about the Iberostar Resorts. Their customer service is excellent! We will be back next year again.

Royalton Riviera Cancun Resort and Spa: Beautiful Property

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Royalton. The property, food and views were great, however, the staff was out of this world. From the wait staff at the buffet/restaurants, the cleaning staff to our friends at the bar, so many genuine smiles and assistance was provided. I would highly recommend the property solely on those tending to your needs. Food was great, drinks were plentiful, the pools were excellent and the entertainment was great. I will definitely be returning to this property.

Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya: Not recommended ... only a 3 star!

We travelled to this resort with Westjet Vacations Feb.4-11th. We had a direct flight out of Victoria there and back which went well, no delays. We easily found our transport to the hotel, again with no delays. The Grand Sirenis resort is a large "modern architecture" looking resort. It was very clean. Check in was smooth and they accommodated our request for an upper floor room as we are always worried about creatures or bugs getting into our room if on the first floor. ROOMS: We had  [... read more]two standard rooms with two double beds in each room. There is an awkward large "frosted glass" wall between the bathroom and bedroom area which leaves no privacy for sound, sight or smell, haha! It seemed odd to us. The beds were the most UNCOMFORTABLE beds we have ever slept in in any hotel anywhere! The small couch was extremely uncomfortable to relax on and needs replacing badly. Basically all the furniture in these rooms are extremely uncomfortable and not up to any 5 star standard they claim this hotel to be. Our biggest priority on a vacation is being able to rest and relax and this was not possible in these rooms. We are not partiers so unless you're completely drunk and able to pass out anywhere these beds were the worst thing to endure for a week. We were very upset having paid the kind of money that we did. If you were a family with young kids having to be in bed early and you're stuck in this room while baby sleeps, it would be a long night! When a complaint was made to the hotel we were offered another room which basically had the same old bed (king size) and the frosted glass wall between bathroom and shower was completely missing which was totally weird! We said no we will just stay where we are, again being upset we paid the amount we did for a 2 or 3 star at best room. We also found a couple cockroaches in our room, I think because the resort is basically in the jungle hard to avoid all the bugs, but yuck! POOLS: we stayed in building Akam which was right across from a great pool which also has an all day snack bar which worked well for breakfast and lunch (more on food following this). There were always more than enough pool loungers and room in the pool for everyone. The animation team seemed to do a great job keeping people and kids entertained with games and pool aerobics if you chose to join in. My husband and adult sons enjoyed the pool bar and everyone working there including their favourite bartender Carlos went out of their way to make everyone happy. There is a relaxation pool near the beach but we didn't go there as our sons were happy at the pool near our rooms. They checked out the other activity pool also and it seemed just as fun and similar to the one close to us. BEACH: we were looking forward to doing some snorkelling on the beach. The entire time we were there it was so windy it was almost uncomfortable to sit on the beach because of wind/sand blowing etc and we couldn't see anything when we tried to snorkel. I brought my own gear. Some people were out there snorkelling but I'm not sure if anyone saw anything although some said there is a turtle out in the bay. I had no success any time I tried. There seemed to always be beach loungers whenever you wanted to go there. We ended up parking ourselves and the pool and just walking to swim in ocean periodically which worked well. RESTAURANTS/FOOD: honestly we were really disappointed with the food. It was very bland and not very appetizing at all. The meats were often dry and any other stuff was mushy/sloppy. We had 3 a la cartes - Steakhouse was probably the worst meal we had there all week, including the buffet food. We watched them take meat out of packages (like wiener packages!). My husbands steak was a "white colour" and he said it was hands down the worst steak he has ever had. Italian was probably the second worst meal we had there. It was honestly the same soggy bland pasta you can get at the buffet. Don't even waste your time going there. The Japanese was truly an amazing meal. They put on a great show and cooked really fresh delicious food in front of us which was so nice. The buffet and snack bar foods are really not good at all. There is always tons of food but it probably won't be enjoyable. Every single person working at these places is working very hard to try and keep up with the number of people they have. Honestly they should probably have more staff and focus more on great flavour. The food was definitely NOT up to a 5 star standard and trust me we are not fussy eaters. It was enough to keep us alive but not enough to want us coming back for more. DRINKS/LOUNGES/BARS: I am not a drinker, but according to the rest of the family they did not have premium alcohol and most of their drinks didn't taste very good. It was "ok" but not 5 star. There were always lots of bartenders and servers going around asking if you want a drink. The two main lobbies were nice and breezy, but the furniture is all extremely uncomfortable. They should really focus more on making sure their guests have a relaxing and comfortable vacation than keeping up with modern furniture that you can barely sit on. My family enjoyed the sky bar lounge at night with the live music but again seriously uncomfortable seating. NOT RELAXING! You have to pay for wifi at this resort which was about $40 CAD per device! We also had to pay to use the safe in the room for the week! Seriously?? Get with the program Grand Sirenis! These are services your need to provide all inclusive or you will not get return customers. Overall we do not recommend this resort because of the terrible beds/furniture and the terrible food. It was not the relaxing enjoyable vacation we were looking forward to. We have stayed at many other resorts in Mexico which we would recommend before this one including Palladium, Occidental, Dreams, Barcelo and even the Bahia. Save your money and try one of the other places. Or save your money and go to a 3 star and get the same as Grand Sirenis. We had much better vacations at other resorts with better facilities and food.

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: Raised the bar for us

My wife and I just got back from a week at Sian Ka’an. Our trip started on Feb 3 with Air Canada. As per the airline’s reservation, Air Canada provides food for purchase and complementary water, pop and juice. I agree with all the good reviews about the grounds, the cleanliness, the buffet and the a la carte restaurants. The buffet restaurant has so much to offe [... read more]r, lots of seafood and vegetarian choices. Some cooked dishes were a bit too salty for our taste. I wish the servers were as attentive to refilling our coffee and water as they were to taking away the used dishes off the table. We actually would get so excited when we were offered more coffee or water. To their credit, the servers are really busy seating guests and keeping the restaurant clean and tidy. I brought to the attention of a supervisor (in private) that all “hot” foods were lukewarm, he showed interest and brought the chef to meet me and they suggested that I bring any not hot enough food to the attention of one of the food stations staff or the supervisor and they will warm it up for me! The room in block 14 was so nice, to the point that I felt like taking a shower before jumping in bed upon arrival around 11:00PM. Water pressure might not be as much as in our Canadian shower, but it is sufficient. They provided good quality shampoo, body wash and soap. They missed restocking the minibar 3 times. The butler was a great help and our inquiries for A/C malfunction or restocking the minibar were fulfilled within minutes. The king bed was very comfortable and the multiple pillows were of good quality. Our balcony overlooked the pool and entertainment but it was surrounded by large trees and gave us enough privacy. WIFI works everywhere, just remember to set Internet Explorer as your default browser. Google or Chrome will generate an error when signing in. We walked to the beach a few times to watch the sunrise. We left the room before 7:00AM and it took us 25 minutes to walk the 2.3Km. Very nice walk. The trams come around every 10 minutes, the 12 minute ride is nice as well. The half hour round trip, including the wait, was a bit of a waste of time, but still enjoyable and nice to admire the beautiful grounds. The beach in front of the Sian Ka’an exclusive lounge chair area is nice with over 100m of shallow water and sandy bottom all the way up to the floating wave breaker barriers. Snorkeling is nice in the area just off the beach. I wish ignorant people were considerate and would refrain from stomping over the rock formations where coral is trying hard to grow. Fish can be seen around the rocks, so people don’t have to walk over the rocks to see the fish. Water is always wavy due to moderate to high winds. The beach servers were the most friendly, cheerful and appreciative of our tips. We booked the Chichen Itza tour through BD Travel in the hotel who doubles up as Air Canada agents. The guided tour included the Chichen Itza ruins, lunch, swim in a sacred sink hole and a souvenir market. Nice tour and knowledgeable tour guide, but it would have been nice if the BD Travel agent did not insist that the ride to Chichen Itza would take 1.5 hours when it actually took 3.0 hours, plus the half hour stop at the souvenir shop. It was a very enjoyable and educational day. Overall, our visit to Sian Ka’an raised the bar for us and we look forward to going back. I am giving this resort a 4.5 start because of the minor imperfections like the lukewarm food, less than perfect attention to guests in the restaurant and some salty dishes. None of these imperfections was a show stopper but I believe a solid 5 star rating should be reserved for a resort and staff that “can walk on water”. Most probably such place does not exist. Enjoy your trip and don’t worry about negative reviews :)

Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda: Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda

First I'd like to say all the positives. Great staff, (if you tip well) beautiful lush grounds and very clean grounds. The pool was run down, tiles cutting your knees. Dirty from the day before they clean it every morning at 10:00 am. Too late if you ask me. Food, 3.5 / 5 beach was not nice, but up the beach to the left, beautiful lagoon. Strong current so beware. Overall, 3/5 star. Not worth the money.

Sandos Caracol Nature Resort and Water Park: Great resort

This resort is great for families with young kids. There is a lot to do without doing off site excersion. The beach is rocky but the kids love to explore in and around the rock for fish life. The kids club is okay and the night entertainment is outstanding.

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: Beyond our expectations

Great combination of adult only with a variety of activities. Food and service are fantastic, doesn't feel like the resort is trying to save money on cheap drinks or quantity (you can put away those bubba's!). Had a fantastic time!

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: Relaxing Resort Sian Kaan

This is an excellent adults only resort being a part of large complex of Bahia Principe (Tulum, Akumal, Coba and Sian Kaan). Tulum and Akumal are on the beach, while Sian Kaan is more inland but with a golf course. You can walk to all of them but open shuttles are going between them every 15 minutes. The grounds are immaculate, service excellent, rooms clean and any issues are dealt with promptly. Beach is very well maintained and the staff (and there is lots of staff) busy constantly raking and cleaning it. Beautiful pools with bars and restaurants nearby. No annoying vendors as access to the resorts is tightly monitored by security. Excellent value for the money.

Bahia Principe Explore Tulum: GRAND BAHIA PRINCIPE TULUM - MEXICO FEB 2017

SUN/BEACH/POOLS - EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO RELAX GREAT LOCATION/NICE HOTEL WEATHER PERFECT LOBBY BAR WAS CLOSED DUE TO FIRE A FEW WKS BEFORE OUR STAY/BUT THEY WERE WORKING HARD TO FIX IT AND IT WAS LOOKING GREAT WHEN WE WERE LEAVING. WISH WE COULD HAVE SEEN IT. THINK THEY SHOULD HAVE HAD BARS OPEN LATER SINCE THAT ONE WAS CLOSED. WOULD HAVE LIKED TO TRY SOME OF THE RESTAURANTS, BUT COULDN'T GET RESERVATIONS.

Royalton Riviera Cancun Resort and Spa: Very fancy resort

It was a lovely resort! Much too big for my liking. Food was amazing, staff was friendly. Was not impressed with the wedding organization (for my friends wedding). Lots of kids, rooms did not get cleaned until late afternoon...

Ocean Coral Riviera Cancun: Food was excellent

Grounds were immaculate, front line, wait staff and cleaning staff all very courteous and friendly. Bartenders were another story... even if you tipped them, they were slow and uninterested. All restaurants including the buffet had excellent food. Only downfall was the lack of music at the pools. When they did decide to play music, it was low and all Mexican. I understand we are in Mexico, but it was only when popular music came on, did the atmosphere liven up.
