Occidental Caribe: Amazing Resourt

The hotel was very clean the staffs was very polite and courteous. One down side we didn’t receive a face cloth for the 5 days we were there, and only one bath towel per person per day. I would visit this hotel again

Barcelo Maya Palace: Barcelo Riviera Maya resort the greates

I was very satisfy with the hall trip, flights were on time without any issues. The resort Barcelo Maya Palace was amazing, more than what I expected. Since I was at the Palace, I was able to visit the other Barcelo hotels in the resort, they all were great, though I believe the food buffet option at the Palace was the best. The beach access was good, really enjoy swimming in the ocean, I even got to see a turtle while in the water. Saw the dolphins in the resort and went snorkeling on the reef [... read more]s right at the hotel beach site. Room was beautiful and staff were all very friendly, accessible and polite. I did enjoy all their pool activities, I was doing aquaerobics and Zumba almost every day. I went to the different theater options in the resort. And was able to find nice souvenirs at the Mexican plaza and their retail store. One night I went to the disco and we did enjoy the Latin music in there. All was an amazing and safe trip.

Barcelo Maya Riviera: A great time in the riviera maya

We went to the Barcelo Riviera Maya on the last 2 weeks of august. We stayed 14 days and had 2 rooms with 4 people. Overall, our trip was great, the facilities are great and the food and service was great. Food Our group love the fact there are only sit-down restaurants in the evenings. The variety of choices are good, and the quality of the food and service was great. We tried the taco bar, sit down, seafood place, Brazilian steak house, Italian, French, asian sit down and Asian tep [... read more]panyaki. Enough variety for 2 weeks of stay. The buffet was great too, even if it shuts down at 6:30pm. The 1 complaint we had was that room service is an extra charge (e.g. a $20 cheeseburger) and aside from very minor snacks there is no food at the complex after 6pm. If you miss your reservation, or come back late from an excursion you are stuck hunting at the other hotels attached to the complex. The buffets shut down at 11pm at the other complexes and if you have to take 45min to travel on the shuttle, take that into account ff you arrive late. The food at the buffet at the Riviera is better quality and more varied than at the other facilities. If you are looking for good food, good service and variety this is the place to go. Overall score: 4.5/5 (-0.5 for lack of food options after 6pm) Pools The pools are 4 side by side pools with stairs and a walkway to go from pool to pool. There are several design flaws. The pools could have been connected so people can move around the larger pool area without getting out. This was a missed opportunity. Instead 99% of people congregate around the bars and those areas can get crowded. There is also no place in the pools with shade. This means if you are going during a very hot time of year you will not have places to get out of the sun while being in the pool. They easily have room for such and could add some large sculptures, trees or other features to resolve this issue. The pools are decent. Large and with a variety of temperatures, water features and 2 pool bars at either end of the facility. Overall score: 4/5 (-1 for lack of shade and crowding in 1 pool) Beach This ranks as the lowest quality feature of the facility. The sand is more like fine pebbles. The beach is full of rocks and there is no way to get into, out of or around the beach area without dealing with an excess of sharp and prickly rocks. It's a 500ft walk in the ocean to get to water that is deep enough to swim in without touching rocks. You can go to 1 of the other complexes for a better beach experience. Overall score: 1/5 (-4 for unusable beach area) Facilities The bars, restaurants, activities and entertainment are good. Also, there are 5 other complexes (hotels) to explore. There are better beaches, different food options and activities to find at these other places. As an example, the palace was a nice change of pace with a much different pool setup. The pools at the other 4 hotels is nothing special. The food at the other 4 hotels and their buffet is not worth the trip from the Riviera. The "mall" is hot and just an opportunity to sell you stuff (as the name implies). There is a doctor on prem at this location, but he lacks even the most basic facilities (e.g. ability to treat swimmer's ear) so it's just an excuse to funnel you to a Mexican hospital. There is a double decker bus that takes you from hotel to hotel. Expect to spend 45min+ to get from end to end. Expect to be hot and uncomfortable as you travel. The driver does not open both sets of doors which means you have to wait for everyone to get off and down the stairs from the 2nd floor before boarding and It's at least 5-10min to load and unload passengers from the bus because of this. You end up wasting a lot of time. They should consider putting smaller vehicles or a 1 story open air vehicle for travel. It would be far more pleasant. Overall score: 4/5 (-1 for terrible transportation) Rooms The rooms are the highlight of this property. Clean, up to date, the bed was comfortable, lots of space and the balcony hot tub was very popular during our stay. The very minor item of the AC being limited to 21.5 which was at the limit of what my family was happy with. Would have liked to be able to bring it down 1 degree. This was 1 of the best rooms we have had in our vacationing. Overall score: 5/5 The Service and Staff Overall staff were fantastic. Service was great, communication for the most part was good and we generally had a great time. There was 1 issue we have never encountered anywhere else (never seen it at even all inclusives in Cuba, Dominican Republic or other hotels). Key staff such as those at check in lacked the ability to speak English or actively seemed put out to speak in english. 2 examples: The guy at the front desk when we checked in spoke enough English to hold VERY basic conversations. However; it became evident that was it when we asked him if the unexpected “tax” charge he was asking for was mandatory or optional. He answer yes to both mandatory and optional. The whole check-in experience was very frustrating. The 2nd example was with those running activities at the facility. Such as, the Animation staff (such as at the pool) who genuinely seemed put out to have to speak any english. To the point of “huffing” when anyone spoke English to them. Strangely enough when we visited the palace several times we did not see the same problem at these facilities. We do not expect everyone to speak English but the front lobby staff should at least speak enough English to resolve issues and answer questions. We have never encountered this type of issue anywhere else (never seen it at even all inclusives in Cuba, Dominican Republic or other hotels). Overall score: 4/5 (-1 for lack of English)

Barcelo Solymar: It's Cuba!

Spring for the updated bungalows. The food is decent, the pools are kept as clean as chlorine availability allows, and you can use three resorts for the price of one. Beach is beautiful, of course, it is Varadero. The proximity to town is great and it's nice to walk around during the day and possibly go to the nearby bars and clubs at night. Cuba is having issues with everything, so please don't go if you are expecting it to be like Mexico, Dominican, Jamaica, or even like Cuba of 2-3 years ago, [... read more] it is not, nor will it be close as long as their trading partners are at war.

Barcelo Aruba: Amazing

Absolutely beautiful hotel, Very friendly staff and amazing beach, pool , restaurants etc Food was great especially the Japanese restaurant. The weather was awesome and the trips we decided on were excellent too. Thank you Kevin Dupius for helping us book this awesome vacation.

Barcelo Maya Tropical: Very Nice Hotel

Very clean, Beautiful hotel. Room service is very good. Food is great and delicious. Beach is very clean and adorable. My family really enjoyed the stay at the hotel. Without any hesitation, I would like to recommend this hotel any one traveling to Mexico.

Occidental at Xcaret Destination: Nice resort!

Friendly staff, nice rooms and affordable price! Right beside Xcaret park, the hotel sells unlimited pass for Xcaret which is a deal you can't miss, especially when travelling with young kids. Overall very happy with the experience!

Barcelo Maya Tropical: Barcelo Maya Tropical

It's a big resort of six hotels. There is an adults only (the most expensive) and a premium one (palace). Then, there is the Tropical (where I stayed) and three more. If you stay in any of these four hotels you can enjoy their restaurants, pools and services as It's just one hotel. Good experience in general. The service at the lobby is not good though. Barcelo Maya Palace: Amazing resort cant wait to go back!

My stay at this was hotel was great, rooms are clean, ac works great, food was good, amenities were great! The pool was always a fun time, clean and tidy washrooms and areas of sitting. Easy to get around on foot or via bus from each part of the resort. All in all a good stay will stay here again in future.

Barcelo Maya Beach Resort: Nice resort - needs TLC

This was my second visit to Barcelo Maya Riviera resort. The first one just before the covid which was a fantastic experience, this was a bit different. You can see that they are still recovering from the covid era. We stayed at Maya Beach hotel that has the short walking distance to probably the best beach of this resort. Rooms desperately need TLC, proper cleaning, paintin, maintenance, light bulbs were burnt etc... and elevator wasn't working most of our stay, which wasn't a problem f [... read more]or us only if you need to carry a heavier bags or for someone with moving disability. Food was better before covid but still good variety. Barcelo now offers a free wifi around resort. Still lots of things to do. We paid quite a bit for this stay (comparing to my first visit) so I expected a little more.

Occidental Punta Cana: Would Not Recommend

I expected to have an amazing relaxing vacation at this resort but instead was very disappointed. The food was awful and as a result made us sick. There were no options to choose from, the snack bar had uncooked hotdogs and hamburgers and crows would would be standing on the food eating it. You only get to make 3 reservations at the restaurants at the hotel. Those restaurants were not terrible but the portion size was incredibly small and didn’t satisfy. Air conditioning in our room broke 3 se [... read more]parate times and took hours to fix while we were left with it broken overnight while it was 25+ degrees. If you don’t speak spanish the staff would pretty much ignore you and be incredibly rude to you. There would be 30+ hagglers on the beach and just around the overall resort trying to sell anything to you and wouldn’t leave you alone unless you said you didn’t have money. This resort was not it and I am very upset with the outcome of this vacation. Do Not Go Here

Occidental Caribe: Awesome, clean and well spread out.

The place is very large but still very close to the beach. The staff are friendly as well as the grounds keepers. We found no problems with the food. Very abundant and hot. Great deserts and fruit as well.

Occidental Arenas Blancas: Cheap and beautiful

The grounds are pretty well maintained, the hotel it self is dated and the rooms could use a little perk ups, but everything was perfect. For the price your paying you are treated with respect and clean rooms.

Occidental Punta Cana: Didn’t like it

Services at the buffet and bars are really extremely bad , they ignore you , and they take hours to bring you what you asked for location and beach it’s good , my room Was good , entertainment was good , I’ll recommend that you go to a better place

Occidental Caribe: Occidental Caribe

Too much music noise from one of the pools all day long. A liitle dated hotel but very nice. Food pretty good. Staff very friendly. The air conditioning did not cool the room quite enough. Elaborate different display of free alcohol outside dining room every night.

Occidental Punta Cana: Not what it used to be …

As I prepare to leave the resort from my 31st visit, I must say, Occidental Punta Cana is NOT what it once was, and has declined at an accelerated rate. We flew in on Friday, and look forward to flying home tomorrow. When Barcelo purchased the location in 2015 and began renovations in 2016, I saw improvements during my following 4 or 5 visits. Since then, it has been a downgrade spiral, that has almost hit its lowest…. For one, the food is not what it once was… there were a few is [... read more]sues in our first 2 meals in the main buffet (rotted lettuce and cucumber as well as a pasta dish that had that taste of something about to go bad), so we decided to purchase the Royal access to at least eat well during our stay. The Mexican à la carte food was great, as usual, but the portions have definitely shrunk. The Royal meals were awesome, but that was to be expected. I honestly have nothing to say of the service on resort... after 30 visits, I know the staff and they know me, and we were always greeted with smiles, “Hola”s, and staff ready and willing to go the extra mile to please. On a side note, the AC was not working properly in the Royal restaurant and not once, nor in the buffet, Mexican or Royal restaurant did we get a “carbonated” coke. It was served flat at every meal, wherever we ate, for 5 days. Was that the end of the world?? Absolutely not…. But there was a time that would not have been tolerated. Lastly, I have seen over the past 5 years or so, and through a few general managers, some of the oldest staff (who had been here throughout) be let go…. I had told myself in the last couple of visits that there were only 2 staff members left, who have become friends, that kept me coming here, and as of today, one is gone… In closing, I am booked here for September, but you can bet your bottom dollar if I can change locations without losing out on $1300, I will be keeping the dates but changing locations 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ It has been a good run Flamenco/Occidental, but our relationship must come to an end 💔💔 For those eating at the buffets, here are a few pics of Royal Restaurant meals ….. Barcelo Maya Tropical: Good resort

I recently stayed at this hotel and I was thoroughly impressed with my experience. The staff were incredibly welcoming and accommodating from the moment I arrived. They went above and beyond to ensure that my stay was comfortable and enjoyable. The room itself was spacious, well-appointed, and impeccably clean. Barcelo Maya Caribe: Amazing Resort

We cannot say enough good things about the Maya Barcelo Caribe. From the moment we arrived until we left, we had a great time. The service was great, the food was great, the beaches were great, the weather was phenomenal. Many things we probably did not get to do as the property is hug and we were discovering new things daily. Very clean and well maintained. We will definitely be visiting again.

Barcelo Maya Beach Resort: Perfect for families with young children

We recently stayed at the Barcelo Maya Beach Resort, we had a great vacation - 5 nights with our kids 3.5 and 1.5 years of age. The check in process was quite slow but I had read that prior to going so was prepared. The rooms were average resort rooms - nothing fancy but met all of our needs. We had booked a ground floor room due to bringing a stroller but found out there were elevators so could have stayed higher if we wanted to. The food was average resort food, lots of options and flavours. O [... read more]ur kids loved the soft serve ice cream machines that were located in the buffet as well as the lunch snack bars at each resort. The kids pools located at the Maya beach and the Caribe were perfect for our little ones, allowed us to sit on the edge of the pool and be within reach when needed but we were also able to relax. Drinks were delicious, although if the bar was busy it was sometimes difficult to get service - but they’re trying their best. Only cons which weren’t really even “cons” but the main buffet didn’t open for dinner until 6:30pm so our kids snacked in the room before dinner and the nightly entertainment didn’t start until 9:30 which we missed due to wanting to keep our kids on a normal sleep routine. There wasn’t a kids show prior at an earlier time which would have been nice. Overall we loved the resort and would return in a heartbeat!
