Senator Puerto Plata Hotel: Beautiful Reairt

Beautiful resort,grounds are stunning, staff very friendly and accommodating. Things they could improve on a few things. The alacart restaurant needs proper steak knives. Bedside lamps to read by.More seating in lobby and lobby bar.More lounches around the pool and beach.we throughly enjoyed our stay??

Playabachata Hotel: Playabachata Resort DR

This is older hotel but generally well maintained. The selling point is a beautiful beach. Plenty of space for everyone launch chairs you do not have to fight for. There are palm trees and other trees, so you can choose if you want full sun, semi-shade or shade. If you like walks on the beach, there is a nice stretch to enjoy. Reception staff not very friendly, some of them pretend not to see you. some of them are not very nice in their opinions about the guests, not being aware that some of the guests do speak fluent Spanish even if it is their not native language. Some of the comments were absolutely inappropriate, lucky for the reception staff they were not addressed towards me or my daughter. Sunwing representative looked like he did not want to be there and was not helpful at all, he was even trying to lie to me that DR no longer offer online check up, instead explaining that hotel internet is to weak to open the page. But ask guys from the guests services, they will help you, they are very nice and helpful. Also Paula, manager of guest services, super friendly and helpful. This resort seems like a party place, so if you are planning to sleep at night ask for a room far from the party center. The store at the resort is heavily overpriced. And one more thing, this resort's currency exchange from US dollar to Canadian is 1.75!!!! so get your US dollars before you will come, because you will look at the huge surprise. Actually not just the hotel, as at the airport you either pay departure tax of $US 20 or $CAN35, do it is DR exchange rate I bought the trip for a good price last minute and it was worth the price. If I will get similar deal, I would come back again

Cofresi Palm Beach and Spa Resort: General service is too bad but VIP service is good

One major problem of the hotel is, only 1 hour free wifi each day. Evwn for lifestyle vip members, wifi is available only on the VIP areas and the beach. This is a major communication issue in the resort. The general service is very bad. Rooms are small, bathroom door broken, beds are too small, etc. But when we bought the package from lifestyle, the services were good. But this package is not at all cheap.

Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada: Great stay

Everything with the resort was awesome. Great food and lots of it. Staff were very helpful. Beach area had a lot of weeds, but staff did their best to clean it up daily. Would definitely return again.

Viva Heavens by Wyndham: Great value for a relaxing week

Viva Heavens was a great stay with good accommodations and decent food. The beach was nice and not too far away, with various activities set up like beach volleyball. The buffet had some variety between the days to keep things fresh, but the bookable restaurants were a bit lacking and didn't serve anything super special. There wasn't a huge jump in quality between the buffet and the restaurants. The rooms were fairly sized, but could use some work. Mosquitos around the resort were also problematic and we were thankful that we brought mosquito repellent. In the evening, loud music from the pool area can go on until after midnight. Some of the rooms are facing the pool area and are impacted directly by this. The resort is a short distance away from downtown Puerto Plata and the attractions there. A guided tour of the city takes an afternoon and is one of many excursions that are offered for an extra price. I would recommend taking the city tour as it's a great way to see the hustle and bustle of the Dominican outside of the Playa Dorada resort area. Overall, the resort was clean and the staff were friendly and helpful. It was a great value for a relaxing week in the Dominican Republic.

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: The Grand Gran Ventana

This is a lovely hotel. The property and grounds are so well taken care of. The rooms are cleaned daily and the fridges well stocked. Both pool areas are well looked after and the bars are nearby. The food was always good and plentiful. The week was a wonderful break and the weather was beautiful.

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: Best of Puerto Plata

Resort is a perfect size. Rooms are clean and well attended to especially by Lydia in building 2000. My room was 2110 situated at the far end of resort closest to beach. Food at the à la cart is wonderful as was the service. Is in great shape and it is long on both sides of the resort to enjoy walks. One thing I would recommend is put another full size mirror in the living area of the room and perhaps some hooks in the bathroom to hold damp towels. Viva Heavens by Wyndham: Great Vaca

We had a great stay at Viva Heavens, love that it is a smaller resort with plenty to do, beautiful beach at the ocean, turquoise water and great rooms. The food was really good. Accommodates vegan and vegetarian and everything else. Everyone was so polite and kind.

Viva Heavens by Wyndham: Animation Team was Amazing!

We were very happy to stay at Viva Wyndham. It was my partners first resort experience and the animation team made it such an enjoyable experience for him. They truly take their job seriously while having a blast doing it. They are all incredibly talented and we will never forget them! Thank you guys!

Blue Bay Villas Doradas: Relaxing holiday

We had a wonderful time! No problem getting a shaded spot at the beach or by the pool. The grill at the buffet served good food, but the prepared dishes were on the cool side. The staff was very dedicated to please their clients. Only had problems with the room keys, we had to go to the lobby many times to have them redone. They demagnetize very easily.

Viva Heavens by Wyndham: Loved it!

My 14 year old daughter and I went to this resort on New Yers Eve. Check in was very easy, staff at the front desk were amazing. Got to our room and was shocked as it was a very nice and big room. We proceed to go explore the resort (it was 11pm) and they had a huge tent so for NYE and very classy! Fireworks along with champagne, it was very well done. Blue Bay Villas Doradas: Clean and well cared for resort

This is a resort with a good mix of quiet areas with more active options. The beaches were cleaned every morning and there was an abundance of chairs available at the pools and at the beach. The rooms were clean and comfortable. There was a great variety of food at the buffet and the staff were attentive. I appreciated the different themes of the evening buffet.The excursions were well organized with knowlegable and friendly guides.There small details that did not affect the overall trip but [... read more] could be addressed. The room key kept needing to be reprogrammed. The fridge nor the safe worked in the room. Not all the restaurants were available the week we were there. I would book another vacation at this resort.

Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada: Feels Like Home!

I have been to this resort 4 times now. 3 times with my husband and once on a girls trip for my birthday. I do need to note that I upgrade to prestige every time I go to this resort so I can't elaborate on the base amenities. I love this resort mostly for the wonderful staff who make you feel so welcome and are extremely friendly. The beach is beautiful but it does get seaweed washing up, which the staff clean up daily if not numerous times a day. The upgraded bar selections are great and the ba [... read more]rtenders will gladly mix you any drinks you desire. Stella and Corona are only offered in the prestige level so you need the upgrade. I like the restaurants but the buffet is my favorite because of the selection. I am vegetarian and my husband is not but we both walk away full and satisfied. They offer late night food and the disco is fun! The rooms in the prestige level are not super fancy but they are clean and nice. The entertainment team is great and they do a beach party on Thursday nights. I will definitely be returning.

Playabachata Hotel: Dated place with poor service

From the moment we arrived in Friday it was a bad experience. After traveling since 3 am, we faced a long line up at check in, only to be told our rooms weren't ready and to come back at 3. We were tired and hungry and just wanted to sit down and eat but we're accosted by an agent wanting to connect with us. This person would go on to hound us every day, cutting us off at the pass when we would leave our rooms to head to breakfast. After eating we eventually were given our rooms. This was  [... read more]a family vacation, with 3 of our children accompanying us and we found we were in separate buildings. On arriving in our room we found there were no towels, the phone wasn't working, and there was no wifi. We headed to the beach to make the most of the rest of the day, only to be told there were no more beach towels. At the beach there were no lounge chairs, it was very crowded and chairs were either occupied or “reserved” with towels. Saturday morning when we went to get a table in the restaurant a male employee waived us over to his section. A female employee started yelling at him about needing to show respect to her and she told ua to sit in her area. She tossed the coffee saucers on the table and didn’t bring us any milk or spoons. We faced the same problem trying to find chairs at the beach right after breakfast, eventually finding two broken chairs to use. When we went to find out more about the advertised “endless water sports, from windsurfing, kayaking, pedal boats, snorkeling equipment...and a diving test at the pool. All of these non-motorized sports are included.” we learned the windsurfing required a paid lesson and insurance fee, there are no paddle boats, and the kayaks and snorkeling equipment require a $25 usd deposit - cash only. We had been given 2 bottles of water when we arrived and the kids had drank theirs. They called reception earlier in the day and asked for the water to be restocked but nothing was done. After dinner we went to reception to ask and were brusquely told they didn't have any and to come back later. When I asked when they said to ask at the bar - who redirected us to reception. The rooms are dated, with rattan furniture, dirty tubs, and aged faucets. The cushions in the lobby are stained and some are ripped. Sunday night we kept our beach towels and Monday morning came to the beach around 8 to secure chairs. The kids were able to use the snorkeling equipment and a boogie board with a $25 usd cash deposit each. Using the kayaks only required a waiver. There is still a shortage of beach chairs but at least the restaurant isn't overrun with locals. Nothing against locals but the place shouldn't overbook. Staff continue to be disgruntled and unfriendly. The guy who had been attached to us seems to have disappeared since we didn't sign on to the timeshare. Tuesday-Thursday the beach was much less busy, and we found some wait staff who actually appreciated tips. No complaints about the food, lots of variety every day. Skipping ahead to departure day on Friday. Three staff hanging around at the desk talking to each other rather than welcoming us to the desk. During the checkout process another guest approached and asked if her bags could be stored. The staff directly in front of her said in Spanish to the other one “can't she see I'm busy.” Then the other one started speaking poorly of the guest, complaining that she had asked to change her room to be closer to her friend. Staff don't realize I understand what they say and they are quite rude about the guests. Playabachata has very mixed reviews for a good reason - every day is hit or miss with the customer service. If you book here know that you are taking your chances.

Playabachata Hotel: Great hotel with lots to see and do

Travelled with two kids and another group of friends. Never felt bored. Resort is constantly being cleaned. Lots of great food options. The resort is huge. Plenty to see and do. Be sure to visit the "old half" of the resort, as the restaurant and bars and less busy. And walk over to common area shared with Senator resort. Beaches are good. Workers are all friendly.

Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada: Great Resort!

Just got back from a week at Iberostar Costa Dorada and it was awesome! First off, the resort itself is beautiful. Very well kept grounds and very clean resort. The rooms are very spacious and the bathroom is great also, with a barrier free walk in shower and rainfall shower head. The food at the resort was really good, especially breakfast with all the fresh fruit and fruit juices. Everything was delicious and very fresh. The only issue I had was with the bars/bartenders. They were really spari [... read more]ng with the alcohol, and for me who isn’t a big drinker to notice that it is a pretty big deal. For me to have to ask for more rum in my piña colada is really annoying.

Viva Tangerine by Wyndham: Great Small Resort

We had a fabulous time. The weather was great, the beach was busy but beautiful. It is the kite surfing beach. The rooms were dated but for the purpose of sleep, they were just right. The buffet and al a cart were okay. The Mexican and Italian were fantastic. The buffet had regular local foods but it was also Americanized. The pool was well maintained and the grounds were clean. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The entertainment was just enough and kept you busy if you so chose to. Th [... read more]ere is only one bar. So this did get a little busy at certain times of the day. Overall I would recommend if you like small resorts.

Sunscape Puerto Plata: Good resort

Everything was excellent at the resort. Very clean ! Only thing I can complain about was the wifi not in rooms and not many areas. Staff was amazing and very helpful. Walked the beach for miles. Walked streets for blocks we were in a gated areas that had like 5resorts .

Sunscape Puerto Plata: Nice Resort

Sunscape Puerto Plata is a small resort that may show signs of aging, but it is meticulously maintained. The staff is exceptional, always ready to assist when needed. The three on-site restaurants are decent, nothing over the top, but nobody went hungry. It's advisable to arrive early to avoid the long waits as they do not take reservations. The beach was very nice, although a bit of seaweed was always in front of the resort. If you venture further down, the water was exceptionally clear. Despite an abundance of loungers, shade is limited, with only one row of chairs beneath trees. While Sunscape Puerto Plata lacks a few amenities found in other resorts I've visited, our week there was still very enjoyable and provided a relaxing experience.

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: Average Resort

Small resort with very average facilities and entertainment. The main bar area really has limited seating and is more like a pool bar than the 'main' gathering bar. Junior suite room floor was very dirty when we arrived, only one mirror in the room which was the bathroom and for the size of the room they could have a dresser for more storage and another mirror! One of us lived out of the suitcase. Wifi in room was slow but worked once you unplugged the router a few times. Food average. We only got one booking for the Italian restaurant. The lady was not too friendly when booking and said there were no other bookings available for us. The beach there is beautiful. It was nice to be able to walk a few min to a little shopping area. The public washrooms in the resort (by the pool and stage) were really hard to get into they are so small and I am not a really big person. I would not return so I would not recommend this to any of my friends but if someone got this for a very good price then you would likely be happy.
