This was my fourth time here. They have beautiful and well-maintained grounds, as well as friendly and attentive staff, and a great food selection. Overall a wonderful resort with lots to see and do. I highly recommend this resort for both families and anybody just looking to have a great time.

Dreams Sapphire Resort and Spa: 8/10
Really liked this hotel. It is definitely a family resort though I went with my fiancé and we wanted to relax, but also have a good time and I guess it was our fault for booking a family resort because there were a lot of kids and young couples with kids, which is why it was kind of dead at night past 11 PM Ish, regardless of that the resort itself was absolutely amazing. The staff was like no other resort I’ve ever been to so accommodating so kind every single one of them goes above and beyond [... read more]to make your stay memorable and tries to help you the most they can and the property was really clean and beautiful well maintained the restaurants all had really good food so overall the resort experience was amazing if you are looking for something a little bit more quieter With minimal entertainment at night. Ocean Coral and Turquesa: The Ocean Coral and Turquesa is a serious contender
The Ocean Coral and Turquesa hotel is definitely a resort to consider for your next vacation.
The resort is located close to Puerto Morelos and offers many positive amenities for adults and families alike.
There is a wide variety of room categories, numerous pools, multiple dining options and many activities, including bowling.
The restaurants, bathrooms and common areas are all maintained to a very high standard with a focus on safe food handling practices and sanitation.
The varie[... read more]ty, quality and freshness of food offerings, was also to a high standard.
Route 66 served amazing ribs, brisket and burgers, to name a few.
Mike's coffee had a large array of coffees, desserts and sandwiches in a nicely decorated setting, reminiscent of a Starbucks.
The ice-cream shop was a nice treat after dinner.
The ala carte's included, Japanese, Italian, Seafood and Brazilian options.
The beef filet at the Italian requires honourable mention, for it's tenderness.
The buffet always offered a large variety of Mexican and American food options.
All staff encountered were friendly and engaging.
The evening shows, including Michael Jackson, were professional and promptly started at 9PM and ended at 9.45PM.
The rooms were spacious with excellent A/C, TV, fridge and no mold or dampness either.
Our airport transfers were organized and provided by Mercedes transporters
Uber will also come to the resort, as an option to taxis. Puerto Morelos was less than $190 MXN.
The Ocean Coral and Turquesa exceeded all our expectations.

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: Excellent at pricepoint
Staff is exceptional. Food, recognizing individual tastes, is varied and very good both at a la cartes and buffets. Making a la carte reservations can be an issue but customer services can usually find a reasonable solution. Pools are well cared for but beach area requires care in most areas of entry. Never an issue to find a lounger at the beach, while shade at pools may pose an issue at peak times. We find the loungers quite uncomfortable after a short period of time, but not enough to deter 6[... read more] - 8 hours of lounging every day.
Overall there are minor criticisms, but at usual price points, the value received is exceptional.

Royalton Splash Riviera Cancun: Good hotel but very large, prefer smaller one next time
Check in could be better organized, as it did not have enough staff on. Grounds were lovely, one pool was not accessible for someone with limitations & other pool was too noisy. Fortunately we had a swim up which suited us perfectly & very quiet.
Buffet had a great choice of food, but preferred a regular restaurant & have a choice of menu which we went to.
Our room was fine but sliding door was very heavy to open & close. Margaritaville Island Reserve Riviera Cancun: Pros & Cons
Martine Reid
No beach but an abundance of beautiful pools.
The only con: one worth noting-is the lack of a diversified menu.
There were several restaurants, but the selection was limited. The food wasn’t bad, except for the Italian food.
The pros are many: Excellent staff, exceptionally clean and modern rooms.
If food is not your prime concern, this is a worthwhile space.

Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: Mediocre resort
This resort was not a 4.5 star resort. A major part of the resort is under renovation and you mainly have to rely on the trolleys to get around the resort. The rooms are dated but are clean and the staff is nice and tries to resolve issues when they arise. The dinner buffet food and nighttime entertainment are subpar. The breakfast and lunch buffet were good. It was nice to be able to go to the other Bahía resorts and a la carte restaurants. The food at the a la carte restaurants was great. Howe[... read more]ver, the availability at the a la carte restaurants was limited and we were unable to book any for almost half of our stay. The steps in the pools are slippery and there is no traction to prevent slips. The beach is rocky and not as nice as other beaches in Mexico.

Barcelo Maya Caribe: Lovely vacation and resort
We stayed (Mom, Dad and 10yr old) at the Barcelo Maya Grand Caribe last week and had a fantastic time. While we encountered a few annoyances, overall the stay was fantastic and we woud definitely recommend this resort.
The grounds are beautiful, lush and well maintained. The ameneties are bountiful, the beach and ocean are lovely, the food is really good and the staff overall are super friendly and responsive.
Coming from Canada, in summer, we did not bring closed toe shoes. Sandals ll the [... read more]way! This proved to be an issue because although the gym is huge, well appointed, the staff would not let me train on a matt with weights or a kettle bell without closed shoes. They let my hsband do so and their sign only says closed toe shoes recommended, but I was spoken to slightly rudely and dismissed. Dissapointing.
Shoes were also an issue at the restaurants (other than buffet). We were told that men must wear closed toe shoes (but not women), and were turned away at 2 out of 4 reservations. We were obviously annoyed because people wearing shorts, t-shirts, crocks and what looked like pyjama pants were allowed in. We asked why and were given no reason, just shrugs. Boo.
Our toilet kept blocking and our shower was super slow to drain, leaving us in several inches of water by the end of a shower. We contacted the front desk that told us the issue woud be resolved soon. The toilet issue was fixed a few hours later but the shower never got better. Oh well.
Staff did gift us free passes to the water slides/surfing wave, which was nice.We had a great day there.
Do note that many amenities carry extra charges, but that is totally undertandable.
Utimately, attitude is everything and there were many more positives than negatives, so we were happy in the beautiful Mexican sun and sleeping in super comfy beds.

Hyatt Zilara Riviera Maya: A super resort.
This is the 3rd time that we have stayed at Zilara and from the moment we checked in through to our checkout, everything was excellent. The staff are universally very good. The wide open lobby opening to the bar is tastefully furnished, as are all of the rooms. We had an ocean view suite which overlooked all of the spacious pool area. The buffet is always open for breakfast and selected evenings. Lola cafe located outside the main building is open for lunch and dinner most days. The Grille is a[... read more]lso open most days for dinner. Tempest, the Asian restaurant is in the lower level and has an hibachi and a sushi bar in addition to its menu. The food at all of the restaurants is very good. The expansive beach area has many palapas and chairs. Great effort is taken daily to keep the Sargassum under control.

Paradisus La Perla Adults Only Riviera Maya: It's a beautiful resort but there's not much to do
My husband and I recently stayed at Paradisus La Perla, an adults-only, all-inclusive resort in Riviera Maya, Mexico. The resort is also dog-friendly, which was a fun surprise. This was our second trip to Mexico and our sixth time at an all-inclusive resort. While we enjoyed spending time together and appreciated certain aspects of the property, we left a little disappointed. The resort felt quieter than expected, with very few active activities taking place and noticeably low guest numbers.
[... read more]Adults-Only Meets Family-Friendly
La Perla shares its property with the family-oriented Paradisus section. Guests staying on the family side do not have access to the adults-only restaurants, but as La Perla guests, we could move freely between both areas.
Staff & Service
The staff were a highlight of our stay. They were warm, welcoming, and able to communicate well in English. We never felt pressured to tip, although gratuities were appreciated. Service was efficient and detail-oriented. One of the little touches we loved was the wristband room key which was so much easier than carrying a key card or fob.
Melia App
We used it mainly to check activity schedules and restaurant information. Each restaurant also provided physical menus, which we often preferred.
Our Room – Junior Suite with Pool/Nature View
Our junior suite was spacious, spotless, and well-maintained. The air conditioning worked perfectly, water pressure was excellent, and all amenities were in good shape. The bathroom setup was impressive:
• Two rainfall showers
• Two additional shower heads
• Double sinks
• A two-person bathtub
• A jacuzzi on the balcony
The only drawback was the ongoing construction. We could hear drilling, hammering, and furniture being moved, and at times even smell fresh paint. We counted about 36–40 rooms being renovated during our stay.
Animals
If you love animals, this resort won’t disappoint. We spotted cats, raccoons, and coatis roaming the property daily. We enjoyed seeing them, but they weren’t shy at all, one coati even tried to tear into a guest’s bag left on a beach chair!
The Beach
The beach had some seaweed, and the water was slightly murky, though the staff worked hard to clear it. We didn’t swim much in the ocean but did take walks along the shore. From the beach, you can see parts of Playa del Carmen and marine docks bordering the property.
Activities
The activities schedule looked fantastic: water and beach volleyball, foam parties, soccer, yoga, dance lessons, guacamole-making, mixology, spin classes, HIIT, TRX, and more. Unfortunately, participation was very low. Most guests preferred relaxing at the pool bar. We waited for a spin class that never happened because the instructor didn’t show up, and later, beach volleyball was also a no-go. We mentioned this to the activities manager and expressed surprise, since staff usually lead activities even if no guests join. Toward the end of the week, we did notice staff trying harder to engage guests, but participation remained minimal.
Pools
The main pool connects to the swim-up suites. The water was warm, though we did notice more dead bugs in the swim-up sections.
Gym
The gym at La Perla is the largest we’ve seen at any resort. It was well-equipped with treadmills, ellipticals, free weights, weight machines, stationary bikes, yoga mats, and even boxing bags. It also had a spin studio, restrooms, towels, Lysol wipes, fresh fruit, and bottled water available.
Dining Experiences
We tried eight restaurants during our stay:
• Naos – International buffet
• Capella – Italian
• Cielo – Mexican
• Blue Agave – Mexican
• Flora – Fusion
• Tokimeku – Asian
• Lemon Fish – Fusion
• Fahrenheit – Poolside lunch
Reservations (required for most restaurants except Naos and Fahrenheit) were made through the desk outside the lobby.
The buffet at Naos was decent, though variety was limited. Among the à la carte restaurants, here’s how we ranked them based on wait time, service, food quality, and presentation:
1. Cielo > 2. Blue Agave > 3. Capella > 4. Lemon Fish > 5. Flora > 6. Tokimeku
Drinks & Bars
Bars across the resort were fairly similar in terms of selection. Our favorite was Toji, near Tokimeku, where the bartenders took time to craft fun, personalized drinks instead of just pouring the basics.
Exclusive Clubs
• The Reserve Club – An upgrade option for a more upscale experience at La Perla.
• The Circle Club – A membership program with the Melia group.
Coffee & Snacks
The Nespresso Coffee Corner was a pleasant surprise, offering specialty coffee, pastries, donuts, cookies, cakes, and sandwiches.
Lobby Vibes
The lobby was grand and spacious, filled with comfortable couches and beds for lounging or waiting for the shuttle. It was air-conditioned and smelled wonderfully of lemongrass.
Notes & Tips
1. We were extra careful with drinking water. The resort provided unlimited bottled water, but it was tricky to completely avoid ice or produce possibly rinsed in tap water. We took Dukoral before the trip and had no stomach issues.
2. There is no tennis court on the property.
Final Thoughts
Paradisus La Perla has many great features: friendly staff, spacious rooms, a fantastic gym, and some standout restaurants. However, the lack of energy around activities and the ongoing construction made the experience less vibrant than we hoped. Still, we enjoyed the time together and made the most of our week in Riviera Maya.
