Having travelled to this resort previously, we had assumed we would have a similar experience.
Upon arrival, we were greeted in a friendly manner by Guest Services. Upon check in, we were given 2 wristbands, with no explanation why. We asked on day 2 and were informed they granted discounts around the resort. After check-in, we were escorted to our room and had to ask where the buffet was - at no point did Guest Services offer up this information.
The next day, we decided to take a shower[... read more] before heading to breakfast. The shower was extremely hot. It took more than 10 minutes to get it cool. This was an ongoing issue for the entire week. On day 3, we asked housekeeping to come in and take a look. The were unable to help. On day 4, we headed to the front desk and requested maintenance to take a look. We were told to wait for 10-15 minutes and someone would be up to see us. No one showed.
Housekeeping-The room was not once cleaned completely. There were toothpaste marks left on mirrors and counters, coffee rings, bar fridge not restocked (until we asked for it), missing face towels (last 3 days). Also, broken glass found on the floor in the bathroom. When we spoke to housekeeping, our concern was dismissed. Mattress did NOT have a protective cover. It was completely stained with some form of body fluid. ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING!
Telephone-telephone did not connect to concierge, etc after day 4. Again noted to Guest Services, nothing done about it.
Wifi Connection-very, very unstable. Many times we had to connect and reconnect.
Room Keys-we needed to reprogram the keys at least 9 times through our 7 day stay. We were told it was due to close proximity to our smart watches and phones. The keys were kept in separate locations on our person and even this did not work.
All inclusive is NOT all inclusive:
alcohol: the only items included was beer on tap and low quality spirits. If we wanted a bottled beer, there was a fee of $5US. If we asked for Bailey's, it too required money. We were also denied beverages at one of the swim up bars not at our location. Again, why???
a la carte: on our first day we attempted to book our a la carte meals. As we were aware, many of the restaurants service all the other resorts (ie/ Ambar, Punta Cana, etc), which resulted in very late reservation times. When we asked how we could actually book to a reasonable time, the concierge said to go to the restaurant and ask if they had availability. EVERY restaurant we went to had lots and lots of availability. This is just a ploy to get you to eat at the buffet. This is very shady business practice. In addition, the website indicated that long pants and semi-formal to formal attire was required. Not true, people walked in with shorts and sandals. This needs to be updated.
lunch restaurants: we went to the concierge to ask if there were other options available to us for lunch, other than the buffet. I told the concierge that in the past we could use the other restaurants in the other locations just not the buffets. No problem, we did not want buffet. Apparently this is no longer the case. The concierge, Marco Ramirez, said our only option was the buffet, however we already were aware of the poolside Grill. When we said we did not want either of these two options, he said 'I don't know why you don't want the buffet'. It was none of his business why we didn't want to eat there. He then went on to explain how to book the a la carte restaurant - not at all what we asked. And finally, when pushed again, he said there was a snack bar in our area that served food. I found his attitude extremely condescending and unwelcome.
Entertainment-we had no idea what entertainment was happening at any of the other locations within the resort.
Excursion-recommended by our representative. Said it was amazing as we would be at the Seaquarium where we would Snuba, snorkel, swim with the sharks and stingrays. The Snuba involved walking along the sea bottom, holding a rail, while a diver fed banana to the fish and we posed for photos. The snorkel did not have any fish to see as they were all attracked to the Snuba. The sharks and stingray were captive and not active. The food! Wow, we paid $150US each to have half a sandwich that consisted of one slice of meat and a slice of cheese. AND we had to pay for beer, but spirit was free. This was an outright photo opportunity and money grab.
This whole experience has left us with a very sour taste for Bahia Principe and we will not book any vacations with this chain.

Bahia Principe Explore Punta Cana: Amazing weather resort needs to be updated
We stayed 10 days with glorious sunny weather. The grounds are impressive. Pools are very nice. The activity personnel especially the pool closest to the beach were great. The food was very good, lots of choices to eat, buffet à la cart or burger joint. All good. Our rooms were not what I expected. Very dated with many broken or not functioning items. First room a/c not working and very loud. Got a new room but took 5+ hours. Second room very similar to first but a/c was working. Room was full [... read more]of mosquitoes. They fumigated but took a full day. Next day our room was full of mosquitoes again. Cleaning staff leaves room door wide open when cleaning. Asked them not to do so but English is not spoken by many staff. So ongoing mosquito problem. The check in process should be reviewed. It took so long and was archaic. Many visitors were visibly angry with the process. Not a very good first impression. Would I go back to this resort, yes but would upgrade to better building. The Punta Cana Grande or Bavaro need to be upgraded.
Hotel was clean food was delicious ?
pool was excellent and lots of entertainment ?
service could use so.e work I'm the past they went out of their way for you this time I felt I was an incontinence that was my only disappointment ? the 1 excursion we went on was a huge disappointment, we never got what we paid for

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Wonderful resort
The staff at this resort are amazing. They are always smiling, friendly and will go the extra mile. The grounds are beautifully maintained and are constantly being worked on. The rooms are maybe a little dated, but spacious and clean. Beds are very comfortable. We will definitely be back

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Amazing resort!
The Grand Coba in Mayan Riviera, Mexico was top notch! It met all our expectations when it comes to dining, pools, cleanliness, staff and more! The food was exceptional with all sorts of choices and something for everyone. The pools were big and clean and always had chairs available to lay on. The a la carte restaurants were delicious and so was the buffet! The only downfall is the beach is a 5 min ride on golf cart from the resort and it isn’t walking distance.

Bahia Principe Escape Samana: Beautiful location and nice but small beach. Food and drink needs improvement. We've been to better Bahia resorts
Food and drink:
-Too little choices, in a week time you'll repeat the meals.
-À la carte meal for lunch with limited options at no extra cost for almost all inclusive package was inconvenient
-No snacks available between mains meals
-If you need coffee in between meals, no way you can get one until 4pm when lobby bar opens!
-Dinner starting at 7pm is a bit late
-Check out at noon, no more food after that. We had to pay late check out in order to have lunch. We arrived at 8:30pm and left [... read more]at 4:30pm, not even a full 24 hour cycle. Even so, we weren't granted lunch for free. First time this happens in our 15 years going South.
-Annoying the fact that you have to sign for every single drink you have, even a soda!
Pool
Water paddles here and there and we've seen people slipping and falling due to that

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Bahia Principe Grand Coba - just the resort we were looking for.
This resort was worth the long drive to/from the airport. The staff was friendly, the grounds were beautiful, and the rooms spacious. The pool had enough shaded areas for me, and lots of sun for my spouse. We enjoyed hanging out at the 'quiet' pool. The other pool had the activities for those who wanted to partake. It was also a convenient shuttle down to the Coba beach. On a 7 day stay, you could book 3 a-la-cart restaurants. We ended up just doing the buffet as it was convenient for us, and th[... read more]ere was a wide arrange of food options.

Bahia Principe Explore Tulum: This resort is just fine
The service, food, and room are all good, but the entertainment is poor. The beach, pools, and location did not meet my expectations. I would not recommend it to a friend who loves and enjoys the beach as I do. I went into the water with a pair of rubber shoes (Crocs) for just 5 minutes and got hurt by sharp rocks. That was the first and also the last time I went into the water during my stay.

Bahia Principe Escape Ambar: Great resort
The resort was beautiful, very clean and well maintained. The a la carte restaurants were fantastic. The food overall was very good in the Buffett. The beach was nice. Lots of chairs. The pool area was large and never seemed crowded.
The hotel was beautiful. We had a great time! We noticed that the floor around the pool was very slippery and dangerous at some point. We also notice there are no railings going up or down the stairs to the rooms.
The only downfall was finding out that our luggage cost extra. Our agent didn’t give us a heads up which we would have packed accordingly. We would have appreciated him pointing that out.

Bahia Principe Escape Aquamarine: Not So Good
Feb 21- March 6, 2024
I will start by saying that this is not a 5 Star resort.
ROOMS - no plugs for IPhone etc. you had to unplug hair dryer, coffee maker or lamp in order to charge phone, IPad etc. The room was dated. You could actually see light coming in around the door frame. Not sealed properly. Sink had no stopper. Bath tub and sink hardware were falling apart.
Also fridge was not cold and not replenished daily.
Cleaning staff were hit and miss with towel and face cloth distribution.
[... read more]
BEACH - nice beach but not enough shade or chairs. You had to get up at 6 am to secure a shady spot.
DINING - food was good and a la cartes were quite nice. Only real problem with dining was that you could not always get the dinner reservation at the time that you wanted.
DRINKS - drinks were not as good as the other 5 Stars that we have been to. Alcohol was bar grade and often out of stock. No gin, no Rose wine etc.
LOBBY BAR - Not enough staff. Coffee machines often not working.
SPORTS BAR- The staff was unable to get NHL games which I will never understand in this hi tech universe. So many Canadians at the resort but no hockey!! The Sports Bar itself was great and the staff were excellent.
NOISY - lots of couples arguing, yelling and slamming doors late at night. No sign of security to stop them.
This is not a 5 Star!!

Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: Very enjoyable resort!
We (adult family) very much enjoyed our stay at this resort! It is a vast resort, making it a great, safe place to explore. There was quite a bit of walking, but the landscaping was beautiful, and there was lots of wildlife and birds to observe. We also took the electric trolley carts to explore the sister resorts attached to this resort. The buffet had lots of delicious food to try with various themes. We didn't even try the a la carte restaurants as there was so much to try. The staff were exc[... read more]ellent and went out of their way, including Ricardo at check-in, who diligently ensured that our rooms were all together when the travel agent who booked us forgot to note that we were a family and we were put in units very far apart. The beach and pools were great, and the staff served drinks everywhere. My only complaint might be the hard mattress - but the rest of my family loved them and slept soundly. Also, there was the smell of sewer gas in some places, which might have something to do with the mangrove forest throughout the resort, but it was never that bad. Also, the surf was rough this time of year, which also meant there was always a breeze to help you keep cool. The location was near Tulum, with many cenotes, snorkelling lagoons and natural places to explore, but it is a long 2-hour drive from Cancun airport. I would definitely consider returning. The shows were good, especially the Fiesta over at the Hacienda, and the prices of souvenirs were cheaper than the airport and the archeological sites like Tulum and Chichen Itza.

Bahia Principe Explore Jamaica: Exceeded my Expectations
After our disastrous vacation last March Break (not booked through Trip Central), this vacation exceeded our expectations. I’ve stayed at Bahia Principes elsewhere but this particular resort was exceptional. All staff are friendly, approachable, and can clearly communicate with all guests. The sense my husband and I got was they truly care about customer service and make you feel very important. The entire resort was beyond clean….you could eat off the floors. Food staff (particularly in the buf[... read more]fet) exercised good food handling protocols. The guest service staff took their time in ensuring all our devices were connected to their wifi and just as much time with us booking our a la cartes. This is definitely a repeat vacation for us!

Bahia Principe Explore El Portillo: Great Location, great staff aged facility
Having been an many 5 star resorts that I can compare this one to, this resort overall scored low for something rated a 5 star.
Pros: it was clean & well maintained; staff was super friendly but needed some reminders; the location of the resort is at a very clean beach - no jelly fish encountered during our week there; lots of food available.
Cons: very small main pool for a resort holding the capacity of people it can (we did not go in it for that reason as the pool bar was in that pool too[... read more]); no elevators for buildings with three floors, so not ideal for seniors or families with small children unless management accommodates people on ground floor; had cockroaches in our room (it happens - but gross!); this resort is not for foodies - 90% of the food was very bland, the meat of poor quality. Desserts were good and a fair selection of cheese. We mostly ate salad and cheese because everything else tasted unappealing. A lot of people to this comment will say “oh don’t be such a hard critic, it’s a 3rd world country” - to those I say, that in Las Terrenas you can eat out fantastically well with well spiced food and good quality meat. In fact there is a restaurant within walking distance to the resort called “Porto” by Mosquito where the food is excellent and the place is very gorgeous as well. There are other very excellent eateries in town as well. We were very disappointed with the food at this resort. The Greek restaurant serves the most bland food ever but the staff was fun and we got to smash plates which was fun. The Brazilian restaurant at the resort was decent and they actually served decent quality beef for this one. The french restaurant we cancelled bc we went to Porto outside of the resort that day, but it’s said to be good. The other drawback of the resort is that each person can only go to a total of 3 a la carte restaurants which speaks to its capacity. We dodged the entertainment that’s hosted at the resort and kept to the quiet part of the beach, so we can’t comment on that. Drinks fairly good, altho the tapped President beer wasn’t very good. Some temporary bars in the evening served President beer out of the bottle which was much better. Premium alcohol was not included.
As said, the friendly staff made the stay good and the fact that the resort was kept really clean. The buildings are dated but well maintained. The food overall is bland and not for foodies. The beach is clean and pretty and the main pool very small.

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Ups and downs
In general it was a good stay - I could be convinced to go back to this hotel, but there are some problems that need to be addressed. The theme of this experience is friendly but ineffective. I'm expecting the hotel to just respond with. Thanks for leaving a comment but not actually doing anything to Make meaningful changes or effort to earn back our trust.
Rooms
I was put in one of the older rooms. It was much larger than I had expected but also had some problems with it. My main issue w[... read more]as the air conditioning control which was an old analog one and had been set so that it couldn't be made colder than 25°. I come from Canada and was not able to sleep with it. So hot.
Staff
The staff were friendlier and more accommodating than I am used to in other hotels. I really felt that they were going out of their way to help make my holiday a good one. My issue with the staff was only that they tended to overserve alcohol and on more than one occasion I saw people having to be dragged unconscious from the swimming pool. There was no attempt to control people smoking which happen frequently in non-smoking areas, including snack bar despite signage. In three separate incidents things were stolen from my room, some toiletries, a hat stand and a small amount of money. The hotel did nothing to compensate me for this. Some friends also had toiletries stolen from their room with the same result.
Food
The food in the coba and Tulum resorts was average. I was surprised that the buffet was a little better than I am used to in hotels in this price range, and also surprised that the à la carte restaurants were a little less good. I. Particular Le gourmet stood out as being no better than the buffet, though the service and ambiance was excellent.
