Barcelo Maya Colonial: A super fun time!

A really clean and beautiful resort! Beaches were nice, pools were fun, and service was friendly and always willing to help. Food was actually pretty good too! There’s tons to do here, AND it’s literally walking distance to two famous and beautiful cenotes. Right between Tulum and Playa, there’s a lot of opportunities for fun excursions too. It was a wonderful trip—especially for the price!

Barcelo Maya Palace: Terrific

The grounds were meticulous and well lit at night. Loved the covered walkways, fountains, and decor. The pool areas were well designed and had plenty of lounge chairs for everyone in our group. Very much appreciated the shade coverings, hammocks, and quality beach towels. The food was great, with the exception of the seafood restaurant that required reservations, which was mediocre, including the desserts. Most of us didn't finish our meals. Barcelo Maya Beach Resort: Large Resort, Great Beach, Other Lacking

Pros: Beach, Food Areas, Pools. Con's: Lobby is super busy at check in, can wait 20-60mins to be done. Room are noisy, Can hear Neighbors and Hallway noise is loud. Water Sports lineup is long, can wait 30mins lineup in son for Tricycle. We got Food Poisoning on 5th day, was horrible. Shuttle talks long, sometimes waiting 20-30mins in front resort.

Barcelo Maya Palace: Stunning resort, but did have its issues

Our check-in process took 3+ hours, which meant we lost most of our first day. Premium Lounge definitely had its perks though (AC, snacks, bar etc.). Resort was absolutely massive and staying at one gave you access to all of the different buffets, restaurants and things to see which was awesome. We took full advantage with a free pool scuba lesson, as well as paid excursions on a catamaran and jet skis, all lived up to expectations. We did deal with a homophobic incident on our first night and thought the staff could have done a lot better job handling the situation. They called to offer us a perk, but when we went to require it meant signing up for their Resort Club and sitting through a 30 minute presentation. We declined, to say the least. Not sure if we'd return because of a few of these little things, but overall it was a good experience with great, friendly staff, reliable food and a variety of options so 7 days in the same area never got boring.

Barcelo Maya Caribe: Love love love this resort

This resort is amazing, clean, friendly with spectacular scenery ,everywhere you look it’s like a picture postcard ….. absolutely breathtaking. Plenty of good food all day long with amazing service! Our second time here and can’t wait to go back.

Occidental Punta Cana: ACCIDENTAL PUNTA CANA- bright spacious and unfriendly

We just got back from 6 days at this resort from May 17-22nd. It was for my husband's birthday surprise. Upon arriving, check in was slow. Not to mention the front desk staff are the first people you are greeted by, there was barely any pleasantries. Arriving to our room (block 24). We were on the 3rd floor- the elevator did NOT work.. but I have to say that the room is absolutely perfect. We had the view of the garden which also overlooked the other resort but it was perfect. The pools are endless but to give you perspective- I'm 5'5 and the deepest part of the pool was barely past my knees. It is lovely though. There's hamburger shack on top of the main pool that's open til 5am and a pizzeria that I believe is open til about 2am, Our rooms were cleaned almost regularly, but tipping does go along way. I left notes in Spanish asking for things we needed extra (water, soft drinks) and maybe 2 dollars or I left little trinkets like candy or lip gloss. There is in shower conditioner, shampoo and body gel which aren't bad at all actually, wish I had known that before travelling so I could've packed lighter lol. The lobby is gorgeous- enough seating and bar space to accommodate even a large crowd, every night there was an entertainer, we saw a saxophone player and a singer. The buffet- There wasn't many options to choose from, and its basically the same thing every day. We stuck with the fresh omelettes, a fruit smoothie and plaiintains in the morning. Lunch and dinner were roughly the same choices for both. I can't say I wasn't ever full, but definitely lacked on satisfied. A la cartes- We went to Italian, Mexican and the steakhouse. Italian was super small portioned and we felt rushed, literally were there for under 40 minutes. Mexican was tasty, and the steakhouse lacked seasoning but a good portion of steak with a tiny tiny piece of carrot, brocolli and barely a quarter potato. each meal, we went to grab a pizza after. Nightly entertainment- Enjoyable but like any resort, the same kinds. One night it was raining so they turned the theatre into a movie theatre which was kind of cute for the kids If you can't speak Spanish or slightly understand, brush up on some basics. They show you that they're annoyed that they have to speak English. The beach- beautiful, enough lounge chairs for everyone. It's not too shady though. Lucking out to find an area with the shade can be scarce. The beach is clear waters, they do work hard to keep the seaweed away. Only one day there was a lot but there was also a medium sized rainstorm the night before. There's a beach bar near by which also seconds as lunch and dinner buffet, but be sure to have clothes to put on as they may not serve you the buffet without a shirt on. PLEASE dont upgrade to Royal level or premium. I saw them waiting in the same lines as us, getting the same treatment regardless what band they had on. We experienced this at the last resort we went to (Impressive Punta Cana) so we weren't surprised when it happened at this one- Friday to Sunday is Local DR residents time. You'll see around 2-3pm, it just gets busier and more populated on Friday. This is because the residents will come with their entire family and take over. At this resort it wasn't as bad because its a more spacious resort. They'll try and cut in front of you at buffet line ups, they play their own music very loudly. The Gym- What gym? My husband went in, looked around, and left. They could use a serious upgrade. There is on site shopping inside the resort there's 3 stores with souvenirs and pharmacy type things and snacks. Just outside the resort theres a shopping centre of just the same type of things, but they are cheaper. This place could do better with firstly customer service, a smile goes a long way, more options at their buffet, larger sized portions for their a la cartes, and more shaded areas on the beach, umbrellas?? Overall, for the price we paid for 2 people and 6 days- I would not do it again. The resort is huge, lots of space to lounge, swim, relax, let me make mention that another part to making my trip was our room..... which usually wouldnt have a factor seeing that you would want to spend more time OUTSIDE your room than in it. SPF 50 is suggested, bring a good quality thermos for your drinks, tipping money, and bug spray if you're sweet skinned lol.

Occidental Caribe: AVERAGE RESORT

The Hotel is so vast and it really, really needs a lot of TLC (tender loving care) My observation for our 12 days stays are as follows; Public areas are plenty but it tends to be crowded, especially during Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The Al Cazar, which is the main Dining/ Buffet area is always traffic and with all the huge side windows are open, which it allows few beautiful birds to help themselves to pick up foods from the buffet ; fruits, breads, rice, etc. in and out during breakfast a [... read more]nd lunch. I have picture on them. Beach lounges chairs are outdated and plenty of them are broken, that we need moved around the coconut trees in order to get some shade, since they don’t have any open hut 🛖 at all. Public washrooms are also problematic due to lack of water pressures, especially for the urinals in the men’s washrooms. This problem also occurred in our own assigned room that we need to flush the toilet twice or three times. We also experienced to be bitten by mosquitoes every night while we’re sleeping in our bed for the 12 nights that we stayed, in which we found them in the following morning fully feed from our blood 🩸. The food was salty and lack of serving spoons. People are using the same one from one dishes to another; pork, fish, or beef and fish. Our only consolation was that the staff were very friendly and as they said ´´ We are only working here ´´.

Occidental Papagayo: We truly enjoyed everything about Occidental Papagayo Resort

The resort was beautiful and so relaxing. The people who worked there were professional and greeted us every time with smiles and how is your day going. The food in the Buffet was fabulous. The Food Service Director would come out into the serving area and greet you. He would ask how you enjoyed the food. The waitresses were lovely and got to know us personally. Before we asked for coffee it would be in our cup exactly how we drank it. Black for myself, cream for my daughter. My daughter and I came home and we can’t stop talking about our positive experience at Occidental Papagayos, Costa Rica.

Barcelo Bavaro Palace: Very beautiful resort

The resort was amazing with so many amenities. Food was very good and the space was beautiful for pictures. Had a very fun time at the pool and entertainment at night. Staff was very accommodating as well since we needed to switch our room

Occidental Tucancun: Beautiful

When we arrived we are amazed by the view and atmosphere of the lobby,the room is clean and comfortable. The food’s and services are very good,your staff are very friendly and helpful. The restaurant has a good selection of food and drinks and we have plenty of snacks to eat. The place is perfect for the family and the mall is just nearby and we have a wonderful staycation in your place.

Occidental Arenas Blancas: Sub par resort

My partner and I became very ill from the food on our 3rd day at this resort. We remained in our room for one entire day and could not eat anything and had severe diarrhea that continued upon our arrival home. After the 3rd day, the only thing we could eat was pineapple or watermelon, nothing pre-pared for fear of getting sick again. I understand that the pandemic played a role in the deterioration of services and that inflation and supply chain issues continue to do so, especially in Cuba, how [... read more]ever, I wholeheartedly disagree with the 4* rating you give to this resort. As a former travel agent of almost 20 years and based on my many trips to Cuba I would rate this resort a 2 1⁄2 * star at best.

Occidental Punta Cana: Occidental Resort

Very clean, pools amazing, resort very large, lots of walking. Buffet very good, lots to choose from and amazing deserts. Steakhouse and Italian restaurant both very good. Beach was clean, maintenance works clean every day

Occidental Tucancun: Budget Resort

The resort is very clean and most of the staff were very helpful specially Eric from the Mexico Lindo restaurant. We didn’t swim in the beach as it was full of seaweeds and the waves are big. The food in the buffet were always the same almost everyday. The seafood restaurant was good. The entertainment was good as well. The lobby were always packed and busy. Need to add bar tender. The hotel has a good location very close to the mall and bus stop.

Barcelo Maya Tropical: Clean massive resort!

This is a massive 5 star resort with lots of amenities. Best part was the free Hydro-therapy at the spa. However, the sheer size actually works agains the resort. It takes a while to figure out how to get from one place to other. They have a shuttle between multiple resorts, but they probably needed some golf carts for travel. Pool is large. Restaurants are awesome. It is worth taking the premium package!

Occidental Punta Cana: Average hotel

Great beach. Hotel was average and needs some improvements. Building 22 was dated and needs some renovations. Food was average at buffet not great. Drinks were not very impressive. Too many sales people on resort and beach which was very annoying. Many locals staying in hotel on weekends which made it very busy. Not enough shade huts/ gazebos around pool and in beach area. Servers were not very friendly and at hotel bar were just rude. Lack of servers at most bars and therefore extensive wait to [... read more] be served. Most likely if I spoke Spanish I would have had better service. This hotel is a 3 star in my opinion and I would not recommend it.

Barcelo Maya Beach Resort: Well kept resort

Beautiful resort well laid out , lots of choices from entertainment to food . Service is slow to some time non existent be prepared to yell if you want service . Everything in the stores here are extremely overpriced

Occidental Arenas Blancas: Amazing Beach

The beach was definitely the best part of the resort. Absolutely amazing. Staff are friendly, work hard and do the best with what they have to help you out. Facilities is in need of maintenance and could use a good refresh and deep clean, but didn't spend much time in our rooms.

Barcelo Solymar: Not good at all

Pools were dirty, food was so bad my husband and I got sick with diarrhea, barely any food only ham and bread sandwiches rooms keys constantly break, no activities nothing to do. And was super expensive Maybe if this place was a lot cheaper it’d be worth the price But this was not the best experience Only good thing is this place was by the town where the food was much better and the beaches.

Barcelo Bavaro Beach: Beautiful resort

Back from The Beach on Friday. Resort was great overall…beach beautiful, pool luscious, food delicious, service awesome. There should be some/any shade on the beach! As someone with serious mobility issues, the premium service was not worth the extra $$$, as most ala cartes were over at the massive Palace. Would be worth it for the young mobiles. Wondering… The Toronto airport security people totally destroyed my suitcase cover and wrecked my suitcase, by cutting off the zipper tabs. I ca [... read more]n only open my suitcase with pliers (which I’m sure aren’t allowed in my carry on), plus cannot be locked. Do I have any recourse for reimbursement of the damages?

Barcelo Maya Tropical: Another great vacation at Barcelo Tropical

We stayed at this hotel before and again we had a wonderful vacation. The room, the pools, the beach, the restaurants and the entertainment are topnotch every day again. If you don't like this resort there is definitely something wrong with you..hahaha All the hard working staff are doing everything possible to make you feel relaxed and giving you this extra holiday feeling we all need...
