Occidental Arenas Blancas: Great location

Great location, beautiful beaches. Food was not amazing, but not bad. I had plenty of options and was never hungry. Bar service could use some customer service training. I upgraded to the ocean view room and it was spaceous and had a gorgeous view. No pool bars, and I never used the pool.

Club Kawama: Club Kawama

i have been to this resort several times. the reason i keep going back is because of the staff and how they make it like my second home.food is good as you will get in cuba. the beach is fantstic, entertainment great, lots to do 5 minute walk to downtown

Occidental Arenas Blancas: exellent all expectations met or exceeded!

Grounds great, food good, diverse and plentiful, staff friendly, helpful, patient with some of the obnoxious guests, beach fantastic. Feeling of being able to do what you want on the resort, and off. Close to town, bars, restaurants, shopping, etc.It has it all. I felt good to give tips but not obliged. Havana aggressive about soliciting tips.

Club Kawama: Worth the price we paid!

Stayed at Club Kawama from February 7 thru to February 14/15. Travelled with my girlfriend and we are both in our 50's. I'll be honest, I wasn't expecting much from the reviews I read. Let me tell you, we had an amazing time! The staff and people there were very friendly and the hotel was very clean. They are constantly cleaning the pool area, halls, rooms, etc. The beach is a must see! Beautiful turquoise water and soft sand with a beach bar too! There was plenty of it every time you went to the buffet to eat and it was good! The snack bar was open 24 hours and you could get hamburgers, hotdogs and french fries which by the way were really good! The entertainment was awesome, there was always something going on. As far as I'm concerned, please don't judge this hotel by the reviews you read. Everyone always expects a 5 plus star hotel when they go away and don't want to pay a lot of money for it. It's not going to happen. Bonus of this place is that it is close to everything shopping, banks and restaurants. There was always lots to do. I had my best Cuba trip at this place and I will definitely be returning to Club Kawama again!!

Occidental Arenas Blancas: Had a beautiful time

This was my second time to Cuba, and I travelled by myself both times. The hotel room exceeded my expectations and was much nicer than the hotel I stayed at last year. The room was clean, bright, large and I had a lovely balcony. The staff were extremely friendly and the pool and beach areas were all well maintained. Short walk to the bars on the main strip. If you look for what is great - you will find that too. I would not hesitate to recommend.

Club Amigo Ancon: well worth the visit!

The resort was excellent for kids and adults! I loved that they didn't undermine the kids but had everyday activities for them wee ones! Only down was the coral on the beach. It was so hard to walk on, I wish they would clear it up. Food was by far the best in Cuba!

Club Kawama: Sub par resort.

Dirty Rooms. Unfriendly and not helpful staff. Paid for room safe, it had no door. They tried to refuse a refund. They over booked the resort while there. Nice beach. If staying here, upgrade to a villa!!!

Club Kawama: Historic Resort!

At 83 years of age, we feel it has stood the test of time. We very much enjoy the sprawled out spaces & the remote feeling of being alone on the beach. Food has improved. Love the employees & cannot wait for our next visit!

Club Karey: Historical

Room ok, Grounds ok, Washrooms in Public Areas dirty, no toilet seats, toilet paper or water to wash hands, Pool Bar staff very unfriendly and slow, Other staff very obliging and willing to help, Buffet Food always cold.

Occidental Arenas Blancas: Great Resort

Staff worked constantly to keep all areas clean and tidy. I slipped on my first night because a drink had been spilled on the floor, it was then quickly cleaned up. Supplies (toilet paper) sometimes not restocked after advising bar staff at pool 3 times. Cleaning of the room was excellent and timely. Beautiful beach, good beach service. Reception and money exchange fast and courteous. I enjoyed the food, I had not expected it to be so good!

Occidental Arenas Blancas: Welcomimg and friendly

Me and my family just returned from a wonderful vacation at this resort. We had heard so many stories of Cuba, so we went with very low expectations and had an amazing surprise. Rooms were clean and spacious, the air conditioner worked well and fridge was stocked daily. Towels were adequate. The only thing I can think of to improve the room would be a tub mat. We had a fabulous time at the Spanish restaurant, food was delicious and well presented and accompanied by lovely music from a talented trio. Already planning my next trip!!

Club Kawama: Good times

Excellent value. The food was surprisingly good. The rooms are very basic but work well. Staff becomes friendly after being there a while or after they receive some tips. A lot of repeat guests there.

Club Karey: Great beach

The beach location couldn't get ant better. Kite surfing possibility Pool area nice. Simple, clean. Who wants to gain weight on vacation anyways. The second week the moustiques were out. Hospitable and friendly.

Occidental Arenas Blancas: Amazing beach & great location!

Overall the grounds, Lobby Area, Bars & Pools are beautifully kept as well as very clean. Our Superior room had a king bed, flat screen & huge balcony. Buffet food was adequate but plentiful. The Mexican Restaurant served excellent food. Buffet at the sister resort Solymar was a better choice of food & outstanding service! Entertainment was plentiful & we ruled the Disco one night. Within minutes of walking nightlife surrounds you...be sure to check out the Beatle's Bar with live band & 100's of people dancing the night away!

Club Amigo Ancon: 3 star Hotel on a 5 star Beach - Perfect!

We picked this hotel because we wanted to visit Trinidad. We would definitely recommend the Superior Ocean view rooms that are right on the beach. We have been to Cuba many times and enjoy the music, dancing and the authenticity of this country. Food was good at the buffet and excellent at the 3 à la carte restaurant. The coffee bar was the highlight of the mornings and late afternoon.

Club Karey: No frills

My expectations were exceeded. Same sun, beach, weather, airport/ bus and Cuban hospitality, as a higher star. Less frills...minimal evening entertainment(2 good shows), 2 bars ( lobby one the better) clean large room w tub:) occasional hot bath:) brought my own plug and screen guard for sink , in case I drop something in sink. Food was very low on my demands, but I was surprised by the provisions:) for a 2-3 star ( in varadero)there was way more then I expected!!!!! :) the staff as usual tolerated and endured with their Cuban hospitality and attention, to the whining and complaints of the dissatisfied guests. I rewarded them with a gratuity of 1 cuc at every sit down meal and left with only my carry in luggage, as gifting is my favorite reason to travel to Cuba .

Club Amigo Ancon: Some excellent Services

Hector at the pool bar is a perfectionist with his bar tending skills, mohito's, Sangria and Pina Coladas were spectacular. Truly an artist! Also the coffee bar and beer bar were exceptional as well. The main dining room is too hot and stuffy

Occidental Arenas Blancas: Above Average Resort 3+

The grounds were lovely. A very old cactus (The Veteran) is on the premises. The beach is immaculate (Antigua standard). The pool is lovely though shallow, and very large. No swim up bar. The food is above average for Cuba. The fish is excellent. Fresh fruit and vegetables. Mojitos not always available due to a lack of mint at each bar. Pool bar closes too early. However, as an avid backpacker these are for me minor considerations, and for the price of this resort the facilities were in fact "superior". Bring your passport to Havana!! Getting money is very difficult and your MasterCard will not work anywhere. You can get money with your MasterCard and your passport at the resort bank if you go early in the morning, but in Havana be prepared to wait in a line for two hours. Cash everywhere!! Overall, I would definitely go back. The staff are friendly and helpful, though restricted. They can't solve all your problems just because you whine about them. It is Cuba after all. You can't impose your standards or force your desires. Just go with the flow and have fun. I would definitely return to this resort.

Roc Barlovento: Staff and Grounds

Excellent staff and service. I will go there again. Hotel rooms are fair but only used to sleep and shower. Food ok. Grounds are beautiful. Entertainment and staff different every night. Some day time activities.

Roc Barlovento: Worth less than I paid

Fifth time you Varadero, but this resort is not what we were expecting. We know the food is not spectacular in Cuba, and we know they have a hard time getting parts to repair things, but it seems that the management is pinching pennies and not willing to give guests their moneys worth. Half the beach loungers need to be replaced, the recently closed beach bar needs to be reopened, the waterfall at the main pool needs to be fixed, and the rooms will not be nice until they are ALL fully renovated. [... read more] Toilets in the lobby, by the entertainment stage and by the beach grill need to be fixed so they flush properly, and paper towels and soap needs to be provided. But other than the food and drink quality and variety, there is not too much more to complain about. The beach, ocean, a few select staff members, and the nightly entertainment were all awesome.
